In 2018, I was pretty disappointed when I found out that independently-owned and operated Morristown Tire shop that had been a fixture in town for over 50 years was closing and would be reopening as a Mavis Discount Tire. I'd had some bad experiences with Mavis at other company-owned and franchised locations. I'm knowledgeable enough about tires and auto repairs and have dealt with enough tire and automotive repair shops over the years to know when I'm being taken advantage of and upsold with a laundry list of 'urgent' repairs, but the crew at the Mavis Discount Tire in Morristown has won me over with their efficiency, honesty, and fair pricing. I recently bought tires for my SUV on the tire manufacturer's website and was able to book an appointment for installation at Mavis Discount Tire. The service at Mavis Discount Tire was efficient and straightforward. They honored my appointment, which isn't always a given, and got me back on the road in about 2 hours, which was pretty good for a Sunday morning. They didn't try to upsell me with any unnecessary add-ons. They gave me a fair price and a realistic timeline and actually stuck to both. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the waiting area could be improved with complementary beverages for customers and the bathroom was out of order, but I'm here for tires and basic auto repairs, not for bad coffee or to use the bathroom. I'll definitely be back next time I need tires or other auto repairs. PRO TIP: Walk down to Dunkin (59-61 Morris St) while waiting for your vehicle for tasty hot and iced beverages and fresh baked goods along with free WiFi and a functional bathroom. read more

Mavis has a price match policy that made me a real fan. I talked to Frank L. in the company office in Westchester, he gave me a very competitive price and set up the install right near me in Morristown. The employees here are survivors from when this was not yet Mavis! They took my car in a day early, mounted and balanced four Michelins in under an hour, amazing. Minus one star for over torquing the lug nuts. Damn air wrenches. Minus one star for hiding $20 in fees & taxes until I picked up & paid the big bill: $1.50 each NJ waste tire fee, $3.50 each Mavis tire recycling charge. read more

Bunch of crooks. I've gone to honest mechanics before but this place was conveniently located so decided to do a big repair here. I know the life span left of certain parts because honest mechanics told me so beforehand but this location tries to scare you into buying their service and parts when I know that I don't need them. And the previous reviews are right.. I got an expensive service done here and not even 2 days later the check engine light was on for another issue. They also charge for fluid top offs even though it's complimentary at any other shop. Never coming here again and I suggest you do the same!! read more

Beware. Don't trust them. Claimed work needed to be done on my car to fix a noise I was hearing. Spent over $1000 and the noise was still there. Turns out the noise was actually caused by screws hitting my exhaust from previous work mavis did. Scam artists at best. Should have known better than to go back after being charged $120 on a previous visit for an oil change. Oil changes at my Honda dealership are half that cost. read more

I went here initially because this place was highly reviewed and I didn't have my tools with me at the time. I made an appointment for a routine oil change, and was met with courteous and professional staff. However, I was extremely disappointed in the quality of service that was provided to me. I recently attempted to change my oil now that I had my tools with me and saw that the oil drain plug was stripped and mangled beyond belief. It was apparent to me that this damage can only be caused by using a high torque impact wrench. Removal of this damaged plug require specialized equipment and a major headache. Please train your mechanics properly or at the very least, have some sort of quality assurance process in place. At the end of the day I was charged $80 for a broken drain plug and it's subpar service quality. read more

Not friendly place ! On Thursday 04/06/2023 around 6 pm , right before Easter long weekend, I drove my 2020 Mercedes in for low air pressure on rear right . We just replaced all four new tires at the same place a few weeks ago in March. The same leak happened last Sunday, my husband drove in on Monday, was told everything was ok. Now three days later it happened again. I was driving home after work, the screen showed 29 psi on rear right.( other 3 were 38) , so I just pulled over at Mavis on Morris St. Morristown. The place was not busy, and no customer at the moment. When I was following the guy 's direction to pull in their garage, he was so rude, and almost screamed at me to " get out the car ! you can not just drive in ". even I apologized for the possible misunderstanding. His senior partner in white top uniform was talking to me in the same rude manner, and wanted me to come back two days later on Saturday at 8 am. I was told that they will be too busy Tomorrow Friday morning. He did not even offer to put air in for me to drive home now, I had to ask for it. I actually relieved that they discriminated me as an Asian American! I am a professional woman and have lived in north Jersey for over 25 years,. It is very first time I felt this way. ( He was able to give another white woman an appointment tomorrow, even she came in later ). I will never return to this place again. I am thrilled to see that Marc, Jack's (Original owner of Morristown Tire) son is now operating the best automotive repair shop anywhere. The techs and manager (Marc) are highly skilled in diagnosing and repairing automobile problems and most importantly are fair and accommodating. Just today, my wife had a problem with her car that the dealer (not going to mention the name) could not resolve despite 3 separate visits to their Service Department. One stop at Marc's shop on Morris Street, the problem was solved in record time and for a very reasonable price. When I lived in Morristown, Jack was my "go to guy" who kept me and my cars rolling for years and years. I left with failed brakes not one not two not three but more times than that they tried to convince me. My brakes were fine at the end they took my car to Volkswagon. I had Volkswagon fix the brakes. They lied to me and told me that my calipers were for my car but then when Volkswagon got my car they had to change the calipers which is why the brakes weren't working I could've died winter was coming Thanksgiving storm was horrendous Mavis on Morris St Mark continue to tell me the reason my back calipers we're not red it's because I'm supposed to paint them. I spoke to Volkswagon they said that's not true and that he put the wrong calipers on even though I told Mark on Morris St, New Jersey. And no brakes he continue to look annoyed with me and tell me that they were fine. He had no regard that I could've died. The storm came a week later. Literally I would've been dead the day I left the first time after they did my brakes I was about to go onto 87 I could've died. Also, I literally had no brakes. Do not go there to get your brakes changed. They lie to you they are complete liars to sit there and tell me that my calipers needed to be painted red and that's why they're not red is BS the reason my back calipers weren't red was because they put the wrong calipers on. He's lucky I don't sue him personally. I recorded every conversation with Head Office from Mavis and I also had another phone in my pocket recording every conversation when I went to Morris St in Morristown New Jersey, and spoke to Mark when he lied to me and told me that they put the correct calipers on ordered from Volkswagon so Mark I hope you see this review because you're an asshole ! read more

I love this Mavis location. They have been working on all my cars for years, and I have never had an issue. They are always professional and explain in detail the problem, and what it will take to fix. Although, at times I find it pricey, they always look for a coupon for me and apply it to my service. On a one day notice called to schedule a service checkup with an oil change. They were able to take me in and the car was completed by noon. On driving my son's car to pickup my car, I noticed that his car seemed louder than usual. They had me leave my son's car, they detected that the muffler needed to be changed and also completed the repair same day as my car. Two repairs in the same day. I am a frequenter of Mavis Discount Tire and have spent a great deal of money with them over the years but this was my first time visiting this location for more than just the free air. I called mid morning for an oil change / tire rotation even though busy they were willing to do my vehicle if I could leave it with them for the afternoon which wasn't going to be a problem. My oil change, tire rotation, and safety check was done in a timely manner regardless of how busy they were that day and my interaction with the staff was okay. I had some rattling / clunking in the rear which another Mavis location told me was my hatch during my last visit so I didn't mention it and had an appointment to finally have that looked at after I got the oil change taken care of. There was a recalled part on the hatch so I figured they must have been right. So now fast forward to my appointment at the dealer, they took care of all my recalls and looked into the rattling / clunking noise. Turns out that rattling / clunking noise was not in fact the hatch but my rear shock absorbers, coil springs, and stabilizer links are all at fault and was told my vehicle is in a dangerous condition to drive. I checked my receipt from Mavis and it has shocks listed as one of the items included in that safety check. Unfortunately, I do not know much about the inner workings of cars or what the advertised "safety check" includes but the idea that my car passed a safety check preformed on it and I am now being told by someone else my car is unsafe to drive is very concerning to me and makes me believe that said safety check was not in fact preformed because they were too busy that day. Knowing I have had my rear shocks done on this car before at a different Mavis location, I dove back into my receipt file to see how long ago that was. I find it... now over to my best friend Google... rear shock absorbers should last at least 50,000 before needing replacing based on how often I drive, the distance and type of roads I drive on.... I have gone about 30,000. I wasn't going bring it up initially but noticed another google review touching this topic and felt it was important for those who may be immunocompromised and are looking to have a vehicle repaired. I did notice proper mask etiquette was not being enforced while I stood at the counter being helped as one of the employees sitting at the front desk did not have his fully covering his nose and mouth and there is no plexiglass installed to make that more acceptable. I really have enjoyed working with Mavis in the past due to their customer service, convince, and good pricing but am left feeling very frustrated, overwhelmed about where to turn next, and with a vehicle that is unsafe to drive. read more

First off I am not from NJ and was in town for training. My check engine light, vsc off and vsc trac light all came on. I had a 4 hour drive ahead of me that afternoon. I was recommended to come here from another shop that was booked up. I can not begin to tell you how amazing Mark and Bill are. They let me drop my car off, attend training and then when I came back they had it all figured out. They ran a diagnostic and come to find out there was no major problem but the gas tank needed flushed. They literally didn't charge me one dime. I even asked to pay them something and all they said was to have a safe drive home. I literally nearly cried. These are GOOD PEOPLE and they are honest which is hard to find. My wife's new Audi had a very slow leak in a rear tire; I would fill and the tire pressure monitor would go off. I ran over to Mavis in Morristown for advice and assistance. Service assistant Ace was great; rather than have me wait since the wait was around 2 hours he drove me home as I lived about a mile away. I brought in my car for a brake noise from the right front wheel. They told me the noise was from the rear and that I needed new brakes, rotors and calipers. They charged $1,000. I drove out with the exact same noise I drove in with from the right front wheel. Take your car elsewhere. read more

When I asked the to look at something (that didn't need to be changed yet), they did and told me how much longer it would last (rather than try to tell me it needed to be done immediately). Mavis discount tire has been Amazing to me and my family. They are thorough yet efficient, but most of all they are Honest! I have gone to them with multiple cars and they always fix what's wrong so that your car is safe and working, but they will also tell you when things don't need to be fixed and that your car will still be safe and efficient, even without repair. They have helped me save a ton of money and I have gotten to the pooping where I have even learned some things about my car I never would have known. Highly recommend going here first! I've only lived in the area a short while when had the need for multiple little things, a flat tire, a loose piece under my car being reattached, etc. Each time I knew I could count on this Mavis to help me. Without an appointment, with friendly service, good prices and helpful advice. They even drove my "new to me" used car and suggested new brake parts. I trust them and value them. I've left my car overnight and didn't have to worry about it being parked there. They even fixed something and when I asked how much they said, we didn't even write a ticket. If you want, you can give my guy a few bucks. So I got out a $20, the manager walked over to the mechanic in front of me, handed him the money and said this is for you from her.
