I didn't like Matthias because he broke, harmed, or damaged my mother's AC on her car and it was wrong.

My family has been long-time customers of Mavis, and we've been generally happy until our most recent experience, which completely nullifies any previous good will. My wife was experiencing an electrical issue, which our research indicated as a dying battery based on the symptoms and battery age. We took it to Mavis to do a simple battery check & replacement. They told us the battery checked out fine and the problem was likely the alternator. We trusted their assessment and had them change out the alternator. They had issues doing the job (like getting access to the alternator, taking off the front fender, etc), to the point where they had to tow the car to another Mavis location that "had more expertise in that area", and then get us a loaner car because of how long it would take. Once the job was done a week later, pulling out of the lot, we saw the original problem was still there. Apparently, they were "not allowed to test drive the car", and failed to fix anything after a week and $1500 in parts & labor. But it gets worse.. We then took the car to the dealer to get it looked at again. They immediately came back and said the battery tested bad and needed to be replaced - which is what we originally took it to Mavis for! Even worse, they inspected the car and found several other issues that they attributed to a previous repair job - missing bolts from the air filter cover, loose parts, uncovered alternator plug, and the front fender not put back on correctly. We have pictures and video to prove it. That cost us an additional $1200 in parts & labor to undo the damage that Mavis had done. Needless to say, we are looking into our legal options and will never go back again. Total incompetence and a waste of $2700. read more

I have been going to Mavis for all of the maintenance on my 2016 Highlander since spring of 2023. Perhaps this was wrong, but I trusted them to tell me what needed to be done on the car. I brought it in yesterday for routine maintenance and was told that two of my 2-year-old tires with only 20,000 miles on them (these allegedly are 80,000-mile tires) needed to be replaced. When I raised the issue of whether they would be covered by the manufacturer's mileage warranty, the woman I spoke with said no because I had not had tire rotation done at the appropriate intervals. When I asked why Mavis had not done a tire rotation or mentioned the need to do so at any of the at least four times I've had the car in for service since I got the tires, she had no answer. So now I have to shell out $500+ to replace two tires. I'm not a car expert and was relying on Mavis to do whatever maintenance was needed, but I guess I need to take my car somewhere else for my regular maintenance in the future because Mavis can't be trusted to tell me what needs to be done. I'm giving an OK rating because the work they *have* done on my car to date has been fine, quick and for the most part reasonably priced. read more

I bought four tires for my car, and only the front tires were put on. I had to call and got back the next day to get the rear tires put on my car. The two front tires were put on 9/12/25 & the rear tires were put on 9/16/25. I take back the great review I gave on 9/12/25 to a very sad one. I can't say anything bad about this Mavis. I came here with my bf because I'd been having problems with my right front tire loosing air. I've let two other mechanics look at my car and they even checked it for a flat. I didn't have a flat, but my tire kept leaking air. One told me I needed a new tire, the other mechanic told me it was my rim which was making my tire leak. I had replaced this tire less then a year ago. Rims on a Cadillac can be expensive so I wanted to double check. I had to keep putting air in my right front tire every week for a month, and my car was not riding right. Matt had one of his guys put my car up on the lift. To my surprise, it was an easy fix. It wasn't my rim that was the problem. It was the The valve stem ( I think that's what it's called) that was no good. That's where the leak came from. Mavis replaced the valve and filled all 4 of my tires to the correct pressure. Each tire was at a different pressure unbeknown to me. My car has been riding so much better. They never ever tried to up sell me. Matt answered all my questions and I was in and out in 1/2 hour. The Princeton branch is, in my opinion, extremely well run. There is complete honesty as to how long a process will take and how much it will cost. The desk people go out of their way to provide answers and always check for available corporate discounts, which has saved me money on tires, batteries, suspension, and more. Typical car repair chain - go in for the discount oil change and brace yourself for the inevitable upsell. Am I in the mood for a $70 fuel system cleaning which essentially involves pouring a can of STP in my gas tank. How about a coolant flush? Aw, come on we know you want one. And who doesn't love new wipers? At least they're off the fill your tires with nitrogen scam. I think they should change their own oil and shower as things are downright slippery at Mavis. Better than some, worse than most, this is how the retail car repair racket moves and shakes in 2021. Be careful out there. read more

Fast and convenient inspection service. Much cheaper than other private inspection services in the area. Was done in under an hour, despite the shop seeming busy. Brandon was super nice. My husband has had tire service here and always competitvely priced and excellent service by great staff. My only criticism is that they need some furniture upgrades in their waiting area! read more

More than a tire shop. Having had some suspension work done elsewhere 7 months ago, I thought I needed an alignment for strange steering issues. Mavis tended to the alignment like pros [on a Sunday]. Driving away, I still felt the peculiar issue. I returned to make an appointment for one of the best mechanics address it. He discovered that the previous work for a ball joint replacement had not been securely finished off with a cotter pin. As a result, a laundry list of damage had compounded. Mavis was clear, thorough, realistic, and addressed the repairs as soon as I approved the work. They were extremely professional, not to mention- compassionate (!) about the unfortunate damage done. They helped me document (with photos of the damage and offer of returning the damaged parts) and did their best to whittle down the final cost of the work. They deserve highest grades for fairness and professionalism. My car now feels tight, quiet, nimble and responsive as it did years ago! Thanks, Princeton Mavis! A+ and 10 star repair shop. Mavis Discount Tire in Princeton NJ is a local gem. Let's first start with how much I love my SUV as we have been together since 2007. I came here for an oil change, rear brake replacement, windshield wiper replacement, and tire pressure check. This is the first time that I did not get these services done at my local Lexus dealership. If you value friendly knowledgeable customer service and high quality repair in a timely manner at a fraction of the dealership price, then Mavis in Princeton is the place for you. The only thing better than the high quality repair service are the talented professionals that work there. All round all-star crew. You won't find a better group of humans. Mavis Tire of Princeton NJ is great. I've used them several times for my tire needs because they never disappoint and go above and beyond to be helpful. Prices are fair and the service is superior. I'm ditching the Jeep dealership for my oil changes and tune ups as they have become bandits and really uncaring. One time during a serious rain storm, I lost a windshield wiper and because they are close to my office and had used them for tire related stuff, I ran into the service center hopeful they could help me. They produced good wipers and installed them in the rain (!) and did not charge me for the installation. Gobsmacking! read more

Brought my car in to have a slow leak looked at/ repaired. They took my car and within 10 min brought it back. The employee stated there there was no hole or leak. I stated every morning there is low pressure. He just said it needed air. I get into the car and drive up the road. The low tire pressure light comes in and tells me I have only 26lbs in my tire. ( takes 32lbs ). Why did he not even put air in the tire if that's all it needed??? Off to another mavis that FOUND the leak and repaired it for me as well. The price for two tires was fair, and they were able to accommodate me even though I did not have a reservation. They were in constant contact with me regarding the status of my vehicle. Would give zero stars if I could. Was driving in Princeton when I got an alert that one of my tires was quickly losing air. Pulled over to this Mavis location and explained what just happened. Said I thought it might be a puncture and asked if they could fill it. They asked if I had an appointment, even though I had explained that this literally just happened. They told me I had to wait two hours and went to look at the tire. I had my six month old with me and asked if it would be quicker to just get a donut put on instead so I could drop my kid home and I would deal with it later. I got an eye roll and a stern "the time is the time." Okaaay, I was just asking. Then the man abruptly walked away, then turned around and lectured me about how he didn't know me and I had to come in and fill out paper work. I told him I would change the tire out myself and take my business elsewhere. The man was unnecessarily rude and gave me attitude at every opportunity as if they were granting me a favor on their day off. To whomever at Mavis reads this, I hope you do a better job of teaching your employees the importance of kindness and respect. read more

I usually never write bad reviews, But my experience at mavis at this branch has been one of the worst. I would like to say that everyone at this branch was super nice , besides this guy named BRANDON. This guy was one of the rudest worker I have ever dealt with, As I was waiting for my tires (that I bought from mavis) to be installed and aligned , This guy would continuously shout while pointing his fingers at me, while I was on the other side of the glass. I could literally see and hear him. Not only that, he would literally come outside to the client area and look at me and shake his head like I had done or said something to him. Not only that , as I was just standing near the counter, he would tell me these exact words - " you just won't quit, will you", I hadn't said a word to him. I was a peaceful bystander. At one point of time I was literally waiting for my car to be finished so I can run out of the place. I talked to a couple other employees which were super. nice and when I told one of them about this behavior, he told me that this guy Brandon is overworked and is feeling under the weather. which still gives you no reason to treat a customer like shit. After spending a 1000 dollars at this place, it was a humiliating experience. I would request the owner to make this person go through some people skills courses . Almost forgot to write this review because it was weird af, and every quick question from someone at work is now a 30min conference call. Tires were low, I was in the area - pulled into the lot, drove around slowly looking for a tire pump like some other Mavis'. Didn't find one, so I slowly pulled up to the front, spotted a tech hopping out of a customer car. I called out "excuse me, do you have a tire pump here I could use?" Dude turns away immediately, throws his hands up, and yells near-unintelligibly something about having to go to.. the front? Somewhere? Then I think there may have been some loud muttering or cursing, unsure, whatever. Anyway, I walked inside the waiting area, calibrated at about 3/4 a full Karen, opened the side door and told him he at some point may need to learn how to talk to people in this job, his coworker looking aghast and giving him shocked / disappointed "I don't wanna be here right now" face. Wish I asked that guy instead, he looked pretty kind. The manager on duty / front of house guy who let's be real I unfortunately blindsided, I caught up to speed - he immediately and defensively said something about how some customers sometimes park in front of the bays blocking it; I was literally rolling in my car, but okay. Realization of what happened dawning on his face, he quickly offered to fill up my tires for free - but at this point I said something to the effect of "no, now I don't want y'all to even touch it." Just totally weird vibes. Other customers looked bored or pissed outside. There are tons of tire places in this area, and even the East Windsor and Lawrence Mavis guys are some chill options. If these are the kind of interactions that happen, and there are some reviews here that corroborate, do you even want to chance it? American Tire also provides cut-above service, so I just don't get it. I had a 1:00 PM appointment for two new tires and wheel alignment. I arrived on time and asked how long it would take and was told 90 minutes. Two hours later and my car had not even been touched. After another 15 minutes one of the men came out and said he was taking my car in; he trash-talked his coworkers and unloaded all his dissatisfaction with how unfair it was that it all fell on him to do everything. I've been here two and a half hours and it looks like it will be at least three hours before I get out of here. I want to kick myself for not just claiming my car after two hours and going down the road to another tire store. The manager claims he never said the car would be ready in 90 minutes; he said they'd take it in in 90 minutes. I had asked him how long it was going to take( not how long it would take them to start working. His response lacks credibility. What is the point of having an appointment if the place is short/staffed and taking the jobs first-come first-served? read more

Counter clerk angry I was there for services with appointment. Needed tire replaced. when I arrived, counter guy was angry and nasty. I walked out. Went elsewhere, making appointment en route where there was a great staff who replaced tire at $120 plus other services at additional cost. Scheduled with other company again while wrapping up payment to replace two other worn tires. Not scheduling at mavis for any service. Unfortunate as I had higher expectation, living and knowing the area well. Clerk took photo of my license plate when I got in my car to leave. Serious issue. Stay away! Rip-off artists! I bought a full set of tires for my Prius here. The tires are fine but the business practices are not. First I was told that I needed a bunch of new front end parts. Then I was told that I needed an alignment. I was skeptical, so I told them that I would have both issues checked out by my regular mechanic (a highly competent and ethical guy). I did so, and of course, as I suspected, all was ok with the front end, and I didn't need an alignment. It's clear to me that these guys were padding the bill. Go anywhere else. read more

Every time I call Mavis they refer me to Synchrony bank and the bank refers me to the rebate center who I never talked to a real person after more than 30 calls. twice I scheduled an online appointment for an oil change. Both times I was told that I would have to leave my car overnight. This is the most poorly run Mavis. if your appointment schedule is full for the day, figure out a way to let people booking appointments online to know BEFORE they drive to the shop....both times I was able to book the same day appointment online-only to be turned away at the door. I came back from vacation and my car was riding rough. I made it to a Sunoco station and it was barely running. I called them and they ran down on foot to rescue me and had the car completely fixed 24 hours later. Can't recommend them enough for saving me. read more

Unbelievable. Came in to get new tires and for an oil change. The bill came back with a "computerized wheel alignment" at $80 or $90 which I never authorized (the alignment check was included for free). Then it got interesting. When I said that I am not paying for service I didn't order, the response was "ok, we'll take your car back in and return the alignment to where it was". I am not sure if it's the location's policy or Clint's personal policy, but either way, I was not going to wait for them to do more work to put my car in a worse state (nor would I have trusted the team with the car keys at that point). I said that I am not waiting, and that the whole thing is too bad, because based on the reviews I was looking forward to having business in the future with a mechanic that does not play these games and one I can trust. These dudes put the wrong sized tire on my Audi; the anti-swerve mechanism on the car went bananas and caused my engine shut down while driving; I took it in when told to, and the manager sent me packing; I returned and he told me I came in the wrong day; I left it overnight and they didn't discern what the problem was; I figured it out and they replaced the tire but refused me the difference in price between the wrong and right tire. I've been sitting here for 3 hrs now and I don't care because its worth it aannndd I didn't make an appointment. I love my car (2007 Dodge Charger SE) and one of the first things that I do when I move to a new place is find a good mechanic shop. STS is the best one in Princeton, in my opinion. It's not the cheapest, go to Wal-Mart for that, but its not the most expensive either (Mark's Trackside Auto Dealer). You can see them working on your car and they are always happy to answer any of your questions. PLUS you can bring your own oil and they'll change it for you. This is my third time coming here and I never feel pressured to get anything else done other than what I come in for. They simply give me suggestions on what I should get done and then ask if I want to do it, if I say no they don't ask anymore questions and hand over the paper work. read more

Holy crap these guys are awesome! Was passing through on my way from Brooklyn to Philly and had some brake troubles. Called them up, they told me to come on in. Scratched my rims during tire changing process, did not hand tighten lug nuts even though I specifically requested they do so. On top of the $1000 spent for new tires, wanted/advised me to have an additional repair done for about $600 - I assured him that a tire place would not be doing such a significant repair. Did not have a good experience with them. My wife brought the car (Minivan T&C) for service since they are close to where we live. They wanted to change the shock absorbers and a bunch of other stuff. They call me suggesting the change and told them not to do anything. This was 4 years ago. 4 years later I have asked a couple of other places (including Chrysler) about the schlock absorbers and they tell me they are fine. We still have the same. Clearly this is not a place we can trust. We never went back. read more
