Aw, this place thinks women are dumb Saw the 4.7 star rating and only scrolled lightly through the reviews so I booked a NYS inspection. The wait was two hours, which is honestly fine and not the problem at all. My problem was when Pat told me the car had an issue with the strut and brakes.. don't piss me off. I already know he was lying but I entertained the idea, asking for prices. When I sat down, I looked deeper into the reviews because 1. I had a gut feeling and 2. The car was taken here last year for inspection and nothing of the sort was mentioned, the car also being lightly used the past year lmao. I wasn't surprised to find other women had the same experience, one even being told VERBATIM the same as me. Strut and Brakes. Except they were quoted cheaper than me . She took her car to her usual car dealer just for them to say her car was fine... Seems like they pray on women during inspections specifically to earn more coins. Not to mention, overhearing them tell another woman over the phone she needed a new strut. Does everyone who walks in need a new strut and brakes, babe? It's not a coincidence, and I didn't appreciate being lied to . At the very MOST, thanks to the employees for the labor spend inspecting my car today. Took my car in to swap out my winter rims / tires for the summer rims and tires. I had mentioned that the winter tires were 17" and the summer tires were 18". I then mentioned I needed to purchase one new 18" tire and needed all four summer tires and rims mounted onto the vehicle. The guy was not paying attention at all and didn't give me a chance to speak, I then felt the need to inset myself with the info he needed to know once more and He then got upset because apparently he didn't retain any of the information I had told him and started to get upset with me becau. He was rude to the techs working on the car and they blamed them for HIS mistake. I've been sitting here for two hours and my car is still sitting on the lift ? No fault or blame on the techs for they caught all his errors of incompetence and they corrected the issue. I'm really just complaining about the employee running the office. read more

I took my Subaru into This Mavis tire to get a NYS inspection done. It was done so quickly that I wonder if some things were left out. I can't know. When it was done the worker told me that my struts needed replacing and the brakes were bad, that one was worn down to 3mm. Cost $800 and $300. He asked if I'd like it done. I said no. I was taking my car into the dealer anyway (Romano Subaru, excellent, trustworthy) and I asked them to ckeck the struts and brakes. They said all my brakes were at least 5mm thick (okay), and there was nothing wrong with my struts. Was it that I was a woman? They were as polite as can be as they lied and tried to steel from me. Brought in my car at 11am for four new tires. Asked up front "Is now a good time or should I schedule an appointment" and was told "We can do it right now." Was then told the car would be ready in an hour. I left and returned over an hour later and my car hadn't even been started on. Then I sat patiently for an hour watching every car that came in after me go up on the lift until I decided to take my keys back and leave. Wasted two hours for nothing. read more

My friend needed her inspection done so I went with her to Mavis. We called ahead and made an appointment. We showed up on time; all of the garages were empty (except 1) and we saw approximately 5-6 workers there. A worker checked us in and he said they'll pull the car in about 5 minutes. Almost TWO hours later... they pulled the car in. Every-time we would check in to see how long the wait will be, they would say just about 5-10 more minutes. There was also an older lady in the waiting area just waiting for her car to be done and they didn't even up having a car part for her. She ended up also waiting ~2 hrs for them to drive down the road to pick it up and come back. Service was unbelievable. Won't be coming back to Mavis. read more

After looking at many places to bring my friend's car in the Syracuse area, we decided to try our luck on this Mavis Discount Tire / Cole Muffler, based on the location and positive reviews we found on Yelp. If you want a short and concise review, I totally recommend this location; there is a courteous, knowledgeable and friendly team on staff. If you want an in-depth review to see if similar services apply to you, please read on: Service/Task: We brought in a sedan to 1) exchange the all season tires and rim set with winter tires and rim set 2) dispose of the worn all season tires 3) wheel alignment 4) other complimentary/seasonal checks for brakes and fluids. Price: Price was very reasonable for the amount of labor, flexibility and ease we had dealing with the team. Since we brought in our own set of tires and rims, we were able to leave it on the side without worrying and explain what services we needed with ease. The price was right! They did everything we asked! Team: I spoke with Mark and Dale. I called Mark a few days in advance; he was very straightforward and courteous on the call. I spoke with Dale in person when we went in; he was very professional and took his time to explain the service and service intervals for those that are not from the Syracuse area (i.e. when to change tires). Since new all season tires will be needed in the spring, Dale was kind enough to recommend tires for us to consider. Tips: Weekends are busy since everyone is off work, but I would recommend to 1) go with someone who has a car 2) drop your car off as early as possible 3) go shopping in the area (Walmart is 5 minutes away, BJ's is five minutes away, Dick's Sporting Goods and the Shoppingtown Mall is 2 minutes away - many other places to shop, eat and run errands). My personal favorite is Helping Hounds Dog Shelter across the street - very good place to visit! When you return to pick up your car, just transfer over your stuff from your friend's car to your car - two birds, one stone! ALWAYS give them your wheel lock when you hand them the keys. Overall thoughts: The workmanship and team are highly recommended by me. I was visiting a student in the area and we put our faith in going to a Syracuse-area garage for the first time and we were not disappointed. VERY HONEST! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! STUDENT FRIENDLY! Love this place! Brought tires here late to be recycled and was given service fit for a queen, with two gentlemen rushing out to my car to do all the work for me. This is my second appointment that I have waited three hours for service, this date to just get my snow tires put on. I made an online appointment the day before, called the day of to verify the appointment, I was told there was a bit of wait for my 10AM appointment, which I was fine with. I arrived promptly at 10, to which I was told it would take 40 minutes to get me in and 40 minutes to do the job. Two hours later I asked kindly where I was in the lineup and I was told I was up next. One hour later, for a total of a three hour wait, my car was still not in, I asked for my keys because I needed to be somewhere else and left to which I was told have a nice day. Not even an apology. I feel like I was robbed of three hours unnecessarily. read more

Alright. I don't love giving out low reviews but I have my reasons. I'll lay out my experiences. I've brought my car here about three times now, because I keep trying to give them the benefit of the doubt thinking that the problem is just a one off thing, but every time I've gone something has gone wrong. This is over a several month long process, each time an independent reason for visiting than the last. 1) I was getting my breaks replaced and car checked a couple weeks before before a long distance road trip. They told me it would only take about 45 mins, so I decided to wait instead of walking down the road and busying myself. An hour later I ask what's going on, they tell me they didn't have the part they needed and had to order it from another shop on the other side of town...BUT... they have it now and it should only take another 30 mins. OK 30 mins more I can wait... Some more time passes, I ask for an update, turns out they got the wrong part from the other location and have to wait AGAIN for them to bring over the part.... then... it happens AGAIN. They got the same exact WRONG PART. By the time they had finished, THREE HOURS had passed. They give me some compensation for the time wasted which was nice but still three hours. I'm a patient person but this was a real test. 2) Replacing my tires for snow tires in the winter time. I had a set of tires that I was hoping to use on my car, and asked them if it would work on the rims that I have. They looked at it, typed a few things in the computer and said yes and that they could do it today. I said great! I'll come pick it up when it's done because they had a line of cars getting their tires changed for the winter. They told me they would call me when the tires were placed and I would have it before the end of the day. The end of the day is nearing, I don't get a phone call, so I call them and they say: "Oh yeah, the tires that you had didn't fit on the rims. Since we didn't get a confirmation from you to put on new tires nothing was changed. Unfortunately we are closing in a few minutes so you will have to come back tomorrow." I didn't get a phone call so how could I possibly confirm? The whole time I just thought they were busy and I had no idea they had an issue. 3) I get a flat tire *whomp whomp* I bring it to them to find the hole and patch it if necessary (which they do fix), but when I drive off I could clearly hear a scraping noise coming from under my car, so I bring it back and find out that they had not seated a piece of the car properly and it was scraping against my wheel. Three completely independent reasons for going to this shop and somehow EVERYTIME they gave me unsatisfactory service for things that should have been easy and routine for them. Needless to say.... Three strikes!! You're out!! With everyone else's reviews it seems like they have been doing a good job for other people, but these were my experiences. The only good thing about coming to this place is that they people who work there are friendly and this is the reason why I am giving it two stars instead of one. Certainly NOT coming back here anymore. read more

Brought my daughters car in after getting a $2000 quote at another place for a "large hole in the catalytic converter and a cracked manifold." After Cole Muffler re-examined the car that brought me out there and showed me the 2 parts in question, it was clear the other place was trying to rip us off. Zero holes or cracks. They then showed me the actual problem. A corroded bolt, missing spring, and a corroded gasket. Less than $200 to repair. It's refreshing to find an honest mechanic and management. And a place willing to show you the problem so you don't just have to take their word for it. Will definitely come back. read more

When I went for my appointment, they were very accommodating. My tires were changed and my inspection was done in less than 1.5 hours. And they were very busy with walk-ins, but they had a guy dedicated to my car the entire time. My recommendation is to make an appointment online - their online system is great. And be there on time so they can have a guy ready for you! read more

I was visiting relatives over the holidays when I realized that my tiny Toyota Prius would be no match for some oncoming weather. Dale Miller of Mavis went above and beyond to get me outfitted with new snow tires, explaining all the options. He even drove me and my 85-year old mom to the mall across the street while we waited to have the tires put on, and picked us up! Plus he filled out much of the paperwork I needed to get a nice rebate. I couldn't be more pleased with my new snow tires and the super service! Highly recommend. Worst experience ever! Ordered tires online. Indicated they were in stock and the appropriate size. Made appt for the following week. Showed up for appt. They said the snow tires were not in, but would arrive later that evening. Made another appt for Friday. Showed up and dropped the car off of Friday. Two hours later they called to say that not only did they not have the tires, but they had NO snow tires that would fit the car, maybe I could go up a size or down. Couldn't explain why they initially indicated that the tire would be there Wed or why they said they would be there Friday. What a colossal waste of time. Didn't even try to make this right or apologize. No one there seems to know what they are doing. Go somewhere more reliable! read more

I went to the Cole Muffler across from Shoppingtown Mall brought new tires last month but the guy forgot to put the cap back on. I had to go back twice because they ordered the wrong one. The guy MARK was so rude I don't know how he is still working there. Just because you are a manager don't mean you can't be replace.
