The company has a call center which quotes different prices to get you in the store and the actual employees on site have no ideas of the deceit used to get you scheduled and there is a conflict in pricing. Corporate is rude and uncooperative. The staff in Pinson was friendly but I wouldn't recommend using this company based on how they do business and treat customers. read more

I went to Mavis in Lakeland Florida to fix a sound that I was told was a mount. I am a repeat customer of Mavis (Tire Kingdom) on South Florida Ave by the Outback Plaza. The young man that took my information was told that I needed brakes, shocks, and flushing of all fluids which would cost well over a thousand dollars. I refused and said just fix the mount please. It was about 20 min later, the manager came over and said that I needed brakes and the shocks were all 90% gone front and back. I refused again and said just fix the mount. The 3rd time, the manager took me to the service department. The mechanic had all the wheels off, and the manager then said, "Legally maam I have to show you the brakes and that you badly need brakes. I cannot be legally liable if you get in an accident." He scared me so bad, that I said just do the front ones. He said he would take $100 off if I had all of them done. I said ok if it's really that bad. He then gave me a bill of $900.00 with an itemized list of all the things wrong with this car. I then took my car to another establishment to see if in fact I do need shocks. The new establishment (Mr. Carburetor) on Pipken, said absolutely not. Your shocks are fine. Does Mavis in Lakeland do this to everyone that is a senior. Scare them to death to do mechanical work? Find another tire shop to work on your car, this shop is not to be trusted! This tire shop is careless with their work and a liability when driving on the roads. I came here on last week to purchase 4 brand new tires. I was told I needed new windshield wipers so I purchased those too. After being at the shop for 2 hrs, my car was ready to go. Within 30mins-1hr of me leaving,the rear of my car was making a loud sound similar to that of a "dribbling ball", which wasn't what my car sounded like prior to bringing it to the shop. I called the shop back & spoke to Matthew and told him about the noise and he said "they probably didn't balance the tires right, bring it back". I couldn't even make it off the interstate "University Blvd" exit before the sound got louder like something was scrubbing and then my car started bouncing like I had a blow out. My ENTIRE rear driver wheel was coming off!! I couldn't even make it back to the shop, because I had to pull over before the wheel actually flew off. My tire only had ONE nut because the nuts and bolts were not properly placed on, so they easily came off while driving, which is why my wheel was barely hanging on to my car & why I was hearing such a strange noise. Alex was one of the technicians that came to my car on the side of the road, as well as Jay(the store manager). Jay ONLY offered me 25% refund for having such a MAJOR liability and risk, which was an insult. He even responded in a snarky manner, "well we had to pay for the new nuts out of our own pocket." Those tire nuts were less than $50 including tax because I heard the phone calls they were making.Fifty dollars mean nothing if I would've wrecked and injured/killed myself or someone else. Myself or someone could've died in just a matter of mins, if I had not pulled over. I was told that the guy that worked on my car was "new" and he was struggling with getting the bolts and nuts back on my tires, so it seems like this shop doesn't do a great job at hiring professional and experienced mechanics. They hire anyone just to work on your car to get you in and out. They tried to offer me a store credit but I guarantee I will not be back ever, so I declined a store credit. I wanted more than 25% for the time and damaged caused. I was told no further damages occurred to my car by Jay, but I had to take my car to a real car shop that I actually trust! Totally unsatisfying experience. They utterly mis-diagnosed a rather simple fix problem, and were happy to charge a lot for new tires, and supposed work that did not solve the issue, even after passing me off to their Green Springs location (that also misdiagnosed and failed to fix the rather simple problem - even after I pointed it out to one of their techs. I know it was a simple part replacement, as I subsequently took it to a small shop on 1st Ave No, where it was properly diagnosed, and repaired, in less than 30 minutes (even waiting for part delivery) - for about a thord of what Mavis Green Springs charged me for NOT fixing it. I struggled with the correct number of stars to give Mavis. I have now had two experiences, one was a 5 star experience and one was a 1 star experience...I have a Tesla Model 3 and after Saab tire closed, have struggled to find a place to handle tire related maintenance. I had an air leak in one of my tires on a weekend and most tire places in town are closed, Mavis was one of the few open so I called to see if they were able to work on Tesla's and they said they work on quite a few given their proximity to UAB hospital. They looked over my car and the tread on one of my tires was very low and therefore causing a slow leak in the tire. They recommended some tires that were better rated and much cheaper than my current tires and ordered them for me. I took my car in a few days later, they put the new tires on and overall it was a very pleasant experience. I was traveling the next day and noticed my car was now out of alignment. I had just had the car aligned at Tesla a short while ago and it had been fine up until the new tires were put on. I called Mavis to ask about this and they said they were sorry that happened and to bring the car back in the following week and they would take care of it. I took the car back in the following week and the technician was running about a half hour behind (not a big deal, it happens), the person working there told me he didn't think they could work on Tesla's but would wait until the Technician came in to see. Fortunately the technician said they could and about 45 minutes later, it was done. I went to get my key card from the person working there and he told me that would be $130. I was slightly taken a back as my understanding was that this was a courtesy alignment given what happened the previous week. He said I had been told incorrectly and he would give me a $10 coupon to help with the misunderstanding. I left to go home and on the way, noticed my car was now even more out of alignment than it had been before. I went back and both the guy working there and technician looked at me like I was stupid. The technician told me it was probably due to the roads being slanted and he would take it for a ride on the highway to see. Of course he found it was heavily out of alignment and an hour later it was finally fixed. I spent almost 3 hours and $125 at Mavis that morning getting my car aligned when I was told I should be there about 20 minutes and it would be complimentary. I am undecided if I will use Mavis again after this last experience. read more

I recently purchased two tires for a utility trailer. I took the two old tires and rims off of the trailer and walked them into location, just to make things easier. I told the guy that I wanted two tires mounted, no road hazard insurance, no nothing else; just the two tires. I didn't take a close look at the ticket when I picked the tires up, because my wife and I had a dinner date. I realized later that I'd been charged for "computerized balancing" on both tires. Curiously enough, there are NO weights on either rim suggesting that the tires had been balanced. Super-nice people, but I feel as if I'd been short-sheeted. read more

Everyone is SO friendly, even from the first initial phone call to inquire about a quote and make an appointment. The price they will quote you is the best price you will get anywhere in Birmingham, Homewood, Hoover area. I know, because I've literally called every mechanic in the city before coming to them. When they took a look at my car, they told me everything I needed to get done and didn't push me into fixing anything. They let me decide what I wanted fixed on my car and what to prioritize. I took my car in on 11/17 (Downtown Birmingham,AL location)for an oil change and to have a tire looked at for a slow leak. Mike called and let me know that the tire was unable to be patched. The tire I needed was out of stock. I called around and decided to proceed with ordering a tire and leaving my car there until it came in. I was told the tire would be in the shop on Sat 11/19 and would be installed on 11/20 (sunday morning) and I could pick the car up before close at 5pm. I went out of town and decided to call before I headed back to Birmingham to ensure the car was ready for pick-up. When I called I spoke to a different gentleman who told me they did not even have a Honda Accord. After making him double check, he located the car and assured me that it was ready for pick up. I arrive at approx 345 pm on 11/20. I ask to be notified which tire is the new one so I can purchase another new tire. HE says he doesn't know anything about the car. I go out to the car with my boyfriend. There is no new tire on the car. I am then told that the tire was patched. I only bought a tire because I was told that the tire was unable to be patched. I was then met with the rudest demeanor I have ever experienced. I was also charged for flat tire repair. I asked for a refund and was told no. They told me to come back the following day to see a manager. I get home and the car has been ransacked. All the contents of glove box and middle console have been thrown about the front floorboard. Sunglasses were gone. Now I am unable to get Josh on the phone for a refund. read more

The employees at Mavis Tires & Brakes in downtown Birmingham purposefully deceived me on multiple accounts. First, the mechanic, Harrison, reported that both my break pads and rotors were completely gone and needed immediate replacement, but when I brought the car to my long-time trusted mechanic, he assured me that they were essentially new and in great condition. Second, they used an expensive synthetic oil blend for my oil change without asking me, which was a significant up-charge. They also attempted to charge me for a service that they did not perform. (It is possible that that attempted charge could have been an honest mistake, but the other rip-offs were clearly intentional). After my experience, I found that they have over 700 hundred complaints on Better Business Bureau and are not accredited. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Mavis nor would I recommend their services. read more

We were driving from Chicago to Tallahassee to drop my daughter off as a new freshman at FSU. The rear drivers side tire suddenly experienced a slow leak. We stopped twice to fill up.
