Kew Garden Hills is not exactly a destination for most Queens goers, but for the purposes of dessert and/or satisfying the sweet tooth in the form of frozen treat, Max & Mina's is 100% worth the visit. While not everyone can get down with their simple, but fusion-inspired ice cream creations, the vibe of the place is enough to consider this mom and pop joint one unique and memorable experience. The shop is tiny and the parking options are limited to a few spots out front. There is barely any seating, save for a couple of lawn lounge chairs and a lot of standing room. Yet no one can walk in here without marveling at the nostalgia caked across the walls in the form of older cereal box covers. It is the ultimate wallpaper, a conversation starter, and it's far too easy to get lost in perusing different covers alone. The ice cream nearly becomes an afterthought with so much nostalgia and so many colors. The prices for a single scoop (dubbed "tiny") starts at $4.95, going all the way up to pints ($12.74) and quarts ($25.50). Before committing to anything, get as many samples in as possible. The classic flavors are all present such as chocolate, strawberry and vanilla, but where things get interesting is the rest of the other flavor combos. Capn Crunch Peanut Butter is very good. I would not recommend the deep dish cookie which comes in at a whopping $9 and an extra $5 for a scoop of ice cream on top of it. It's a decadent treat, but severely overpriced. I was so impressed with the staff; they were friendly, welcomiing, and were patient with my group as we took in the place and multiple samples between every person. The had some nice recommendations and answered all of our questions. Max & Mina's is not just a classic establishment, but a gem in the borough that can't be missed.
my son & i love max & mina's ! we love the nostalgia behind the decor and spitting our favorite cereals new & old amongst the walls. they always have new flavors even though we tend to stick to our usual favorites. it is a family run business & everyone is so nice ! it's a cute spin on a normal sweet treat that feels brand new every time !
Extremely kitschy Ice cream spot in the best way possible. They only have 3 beach chairs (think Adirondack shaped, but plastic) for seating, but tons to see. The owner is very friendly and views the place as a museum, with constantly changing content. The Ice cream itself is creative and varied. They have lots of ice creams infused with cereals... really yummy. They have a set of ice creams that don't change, and new ones that do change. They also have soft serve. They're not stingy in limiting your samples, and the owner clearly enjoys his job. I had the Ferrero rocheche caramel Ice cream, it was very sweet, but very good. My kiddo had the fruit loop scoops flavor, and honestly, I think it was even better. My friend had the pumpkin spice option, and loved it so much. She bought a pint to go! This will be a regular haunt for me.
Super nice service. Sample all you want. Amazing flavors. Regular stuff plus outstanding mixtures. We had coffee chunky bar and ferrero rocher caramel. Amazing both. And fresh brewed coffee and dulce de leche. Coffee actually has true flavor and dulce has caramel running through. We've lived in queens our whole lives and this was the first time we've been here. Recommended by our friend and so glad we checked it out. New ice cream spot for us for sure!!!
Max & Mina's was chefs kiss. The flavors of the ice cream were like a walk in the park. Kosher friendly. And fun for dates. You will not regret going here. TRUST ME! It was soo good!!! 10 out of 10! The ice cream parlor is very nostalgic, and you're able to try unlimited flavors. So get your taste buds ready!!!!!
my favorite ice cream spot in queens! the flavor combos are delicious, my favorite being the "Cookie Monster" (pictured), Cap'n Crunch / cookies and cream (pictured), the fruity pebbles and the rocky road. they also have frozen yogurt (chocolate and vanilla). prices are decent, not cheap but also not as expensive as other places. the service is great- the staff are super nice, and they let you try as many flavors as you'd like. the whole place is decorated with cereal boxes (old to new) and lights. tip- try multiple flavors! and they have cones as well as cups.

Consider me a fan of @maxandminas ! We got two of the most popular flavors: Tates & Capn Crunch Cookies and Cream. I am a pretty big fan of both loved the Cap'n Crunch infusion to the cookies and cream. It brought me back to my childhood Cap'n Crunch days, and actually the whole atmosphere of this spot brought me back with all the old cereal decor. However regardless of how I love cookies & cream, the chocolate chip cookie lover in me has me gravitating more towards the tates flavor, the softened cookies gave such a homey vibe and paired so well with the creamy ice cream. This place is definitely generous with the amount of mix ins too, both scoops were cookielicious as hell. Will be back soon for sure! the owner was very friendly as well and let me take a video of the store for my page. read more

even though i have to take quite a long trip to visit max & mina's, i've never regretted it! they're always going to be one of my favorite ice cream shops in the city, and i can't wait to come back. i'm not a big fan of how a single scoop is now $7.50, which is around a dollar more expensive than it was last year. but, i definitely feel like you'll be getting your money's worth, considering the fact that the quality is great and the portions are quite generous. not to mention, you can get either 1 or 2 flavors in a single scoop, which i really appreciate. you can try out free samples to figure out which flavor is the one for you! plus, they're coming out with new flavors almost every day, so there'll always be a new flavor to try on your next visit. 7/28/22 -peanut butter & jelly cookie dough: i'm generally not the biggest fan cookie dough in ice cream, but i love the combo of pb&j! i think that the most dominant flavors were definitely the cookie dough and peanut butter, which caused many of the bites to just taste like a pb cookie in ice cream form. but, the bites that did have jelly were even better because they added a refreshing touch, which balanced well with the nutty sweet combo already there. the cookie dough bites were pretty tiny and you were able to get some in every bite! the ice cream itself was creamy which paired great with the texture of the cookie dough. this was definitely quite sweet because of the cookie dough, so i'm glad that i didn't get this entire scoop to be just this flavor. (4.5/5) -croissant nutella: if you're a fan of nutella, this is definitely the flavor for you. it's basically a chocolate croissant in ice cream form! there are swirls of nutella throughout, and even pieces of croissant layers in every bite! i loved how the flakiness from the croissant adds a subtle texture on top of the creamy ice cream. not to mention, the base itself tastes quite buttery, which exactly resembles the taste of a croissant. since there wasn't too much nutella, the ice cream wasn't overwhelmingly sweet which i really appreciated. If I could give this place 6 stars I seriously would! The customer service at Max and Mina's was fabulous. The man who was scooping the ice cream was extremely calm and pleasant--something you need to be when dealing with someone who never has a clue what they want to eat. I had the spongebob, cookie monster and birthday cake flavor I believe. It tasted amazing. Me and 2 of my friends had just graduated (with our bachelors woot woot!) and we celebrated last June by coming here to relax and shoot the breeze. We'll definitely be coming back soon read more

This place should be more popular in NYC. One of the best ice cream places ever. Different flavors everyday. One scoop is really like 2 scoops and up-to 2 flavors. Can't go wrong. They now accept credit cards, use to be all cash. The two brothers run it, one is friendly then the other but both are relatively nice. read more

Max & Mina's is dope. What? You want more?...... Yes Max & Mina's is a great spot to chillax and eat some delicious ice cream. I mean think of a flavor or food combination and they most likely will have it. My personal fav is their captain crunch cookies and cream. I mean this is like heaven on a cone. I could just sit down at this place is just try the different flavors all day. Their that kind of shop. Cool and hip. Did I just say hip? Sounded very dated but it's a place for all crowds and all ages who just love some good ol ice cream. Don't rush your order take time and explore the flavors. You'll definitely find a wonderful gem! read more

My new favorite ice cream spot! I love the different options of ice cream they have and the rotate flavors. I love the chocolate lava and was sad when it was all gone. But that didn't stop me from returning. The inside of the store is amazing, stop by and enjoy yummy ice cream. read more

It's a cute place with sooo many flavors. They change daily so maybe call before going if you're looking for a particular flavor. The owner was very nice and let my bf and I try all the flavors pretty much. I ended up with spongebob & fruity pebbles which were both delicious. Thankfully I live very far from this place so I won't be going every weekend. read more

This ice cream is insanely AMAZING!! I don't know how I've never been here before today. The choice of flavors, the ambiance of the decorated walls and the sweet owners really made my visit outstanding. The flavors were super unique and it was super creamy scoops. Parking is easy to find as well. A size "small," which includes up to 2 flavors, is $5.50---so worth the money. I cant wait to go back and try other flavors. read more

Customer service was amazing. My first time going here and although there was a line he didn't make me feel rushed to make a choice at all. He let me taste so many flavors before i decided and even gave me some flavors to try that he thought i would like. His son was also so kind. Definitely will be coming back!! read more

This place is a gem! The walls are lined with cereal cutouts that make the interior so vibrant and colorful. They give you a sample of any flavor you want to taste before you want to commit to anything, which I find great. The staff was super friendly and would gladly tell you what every flavor consists of. I ended up going with the Cookie Monster and the flavor was so rich and creamy. I also tasted the blueberry oreo and the one with the pop rocks. I must say that their flavors are unique. For $4.75, you get a single scoop (but it's literally two scoops). The difference between the single scoop and double scoop is the cup size. With the double scoop, you get 4 scoops. There is a decent amount of sitting inside & some beach chairs outside. I look forward to coming back to this place and trying new flavors because I heard they come out with new ones every once in a while. Totally worth the $, but this place is cash only! read more

Stopped by here after a Mets game the other day because it was so hot. I've heard so many amazing things about this ice cream and decided to give it a chance even though my stomach might not be dairy happy. This place is really tiny and there are a lot of kids running around. The man behind the counter was so eager to give me samples and was happy for me to try as many favors as I wanted. We went home with Blueberry Cookies and Cream, Cookie Monster, Captain Crunch peanut butter and plain vanilla. These flavors are rich rich rich. The blueberry flavor actually tasted like a fruit and the Cap'n Crunch flavor was like chomping on a bowl of cereal. I'm not the biggest fan of ice cream but this was totally worth the calories. read more

This is the Willy Wonka factory of ice-cream in NY! their ice-cream creations are unique, delicious, and totally one of a kind. Where else can you get blue cookie monster, strawberry champange, and cotton candy pop rock flavor ice-cream?! I honestly can't think of another place and I've tried most of the Ice cream shops in nyc. They also have the most colorful mix of ice-cream I've seen. It's all very vibrant and rainbowish. The owner is super nice and friendly. He was able to walk me through all their flavors and give me samples along the way, when the store just opened and it was quiet. I love the cereal box wallpaper and beach chairs. The best part was that I got a double scoop with 4 flavors! read more
I had a feeling Max and Mina's was going to be good, and for once I was right. They're definitely doing some very solid ice cream. A lot of different combinations to choose from, some familiar ones, and some pretty interesting ones ... merlot chip. Sometimes these kinds of place with a lot of combinations rely too much on the filling, and don't focus enough on the actual ice cream, but not at Max and Mina's. The ice cream itself is very good, smooth and creamy; a good step up from anything you can find in a supermarket. I went with the Cookie Monster, Cherry Pie, and Raspberry Oreo. Yes, I easily ate over a pint of ice cream ... cudos to the server for not laughing at me as i devoured them all in a matter of minutes. All of which were very good. I expected the vivid blue, Cookie Monster, to be more of a gimmick than anything, but I was surprised, it was actually really flavorful. It was a mix of Oreo and Chips Ahoy cookies, with what tasted like vanilla ice cream (I'm assuming the blue is just food coloring, and doesn't add any actual flavor.) My favorite though was the Raspberry Oreo, damn that was good. The raspberry ice cream was great. Forget the Oreos, I could eat just the raspberry ice cream, by itself, any day. Even though Flushing is about as arduous journey as it gets for me, I'll definitely be back to try the rest of the flavors. read more
I came here on a Saturday night around 10pm and it was pretty empty. As soon as you walk in through the door, you'll see how busy the walls are with different cereal boxes. Very instragrammable. Regretfully, I ordered the cookie monster wouldn't giving it a test try and it was O-K. However, my friend ordered the captain crunch cookies and cream single scoop and it was sooo delicious. It really did taste like an ice cream version of the cereal. We also then test tasted the fruity pebbles ice cream and that was super delicious as well. I would definitely come back to have a full cone of one of the cereal flavored ice cream rather than just an everyday flavor. read more

Amazing !!!! The man working the counter was so attentive and literally was feeding my son samples as he hovered over the counter!!!! He was so sweet ! He let us sample anything and everything we wanted ! I love the cotton candy captain crunch we will be back very soon !!! read more
The definition of a hidden gem. Possibly the best ice cream I've had in the neighborhood !! $4.25 for one scoop may seem like a lot but I swear, it looked like 3 scoops ! The ice cream taste homemade and it was amazing. So creamy and rich with flavor. I got the captain crunch cookies n cream .. omg. 2die4. I enjoyed every single bite of this. There's many creative flavors and the customer service is amazing !!!! The server gave us unlimited tasters. He was so friendly and recommended flavors to us. He was patient with every customer even though there was a bit of a rush. The store itself is very small but holy, it's beautifully designed. There's cereal boxes along one wall and the other has a bunch of posters. I would def recommend and I will be returning !!! read more

Great ice cream close to home. It is definitely a hole in my neighborhood. Their walls are covered in cereal boxes and stickers. They have some many unique flavors to choose from and they usually have monthly flavors that you can try. You can sample as much as you like. I'd definitely would recommend buying a quart to go, as they overstuff it. This is my go to ice cream spot whenever I have the craving. FYI, they are cash only. I don't know where to start. This place is fantastic. Like a dream come true. Upon walking in you'll immediately feel fun and playful vibes. The vast collection of nostalgic cereal box covers on one wall with beach themed cartoon art on another wall is sure to put a smile on your face. There's a bench, some beach chairs (lolwut), and regular tables to sit at. Samples. They'll let you try as many flavors as you want. Don't want samples? Too bad. They'll give them to you anyway because the staff here is so generous. I think I tried almost every flavor, sampling before and after I finished the cone I ordered. I was handed spoon after spoon without hesitation. Shout out to staff member Jason for being a pleasure. The flavors are brilliant to say the least. Give their Instagram a follow to see what I mean. No flavor here is boring, and they offer a wide range between crowd pleasers and eccentric flavors. Their best sellers, for good reason, are SpongeBob (birthday cake with extras), Cap'n Crunch Cookies & Cream, and Cookie Monster. They have some weird ones like Nova Lox (very interesting). And they do limited time and seasonal ones on a regular basis (Corn on the Cob in summer, Candy Corn during Halloween, Pumpkin Fritter in fall, the list goes on...). Some personal favorites (read: I enjoyed everything but these were particularly mind-blowing) are Potato Chip Caramel, Pancake Chip, and Babka. I'll happily make the trek out here from the city just for Max & Mina's. And I'd recommend you do the same for it's great environment and even better ice cream. read more
Came here for National Ice Cream Day on a quiet Sunday afternoon. First impressions of the shop is that it is really colorful! The walls are decorated with various candies and cereal boxes which are instantly a conversation piece with whoever your company is. There are also a variety of stickers along the counter which stem from different places throughout the country. The menu was a bit confusing--I wasn't sure what was a flavor I could order and what was just a decoration. Although a bit frustrating, I got over it when I saw that the most interesting flavors were written plainly. I ended up ordering the "oreo based cookie dough" and the "churro" flavors ($6.50). I was very impressed with the churro flavor! It was perfectly cinnamon-y with small doughy pieces mixed in. The cookie dough flavor was abundant with cookie dough but I wasn't sure what made it oreo based aside from the color; it seemed like a regular cookie dough ice cream to me. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this shop. I could imagine that if it's busy it would be tough to relax eating ice cream in here because of how cramped the ordering space is. Loved the ice cream though! read more

I'm very mad at myself. The one time I stopped at M&M's, I didn't try the most unusual flavor of the day: beer and nuts. Why?! WHY THE HELL WOULD I DO THAT?? The ice cream isn't particularly expensive...it's only about four dollars and something cents for three positively huge scoops. I ended up having chocolate oreo cheesecake due to the fact that I have an inherent affinity for cookies and cream, as well as a scoop of Elephant's Dream, which is vanilla with peanuts and marshmallow swirled throughout. I had also asked for white chocolate, but was given chocolate instead by the rather scary man who happened to be working behind the counter. Next time I'll be more brave and demand a re-do. But back to the ice cream. It's quite dense and creamy and very tasty, and quite simply good enough to return to (though admittedly it's not as much of a schlep for me, a Queensite). And remember, they're closed Saturdays! read more

I'm a total sucker for little novelty shops like this. Plus it involves lots of icecream with weird flavors so obviously i'm in! After indulging at Max & Mina's i can't say, "I've never had blue icecream". Ladies and Gentlemen, I've had blue cookie monster icecream and i liked it. This creation will turn your whole mouth blue but with all those chunky pieces of chocolate chip and oreo mixed in, id say it was worth it. They've got every flavor you can think of in this little shop, and probably lots of flavors that you'd never WANT to think of. BEER icecream? PIZZZA? Flavors for the risk takers in all of us. The walls in here are also COVERED in shots of the owner posing with famous celebs and politicians including Mr.Bloomberg himself. He's caught chowing down on some funky icecream on numerous occasions. I love this little shop, i will be back to try more and more and more flavors until i try something i can't stomach. Then i would still probably be back for more. Girls gotta have her icecream! read more
This place is a real gem: tasty ice cream, novel flavors and generous samples. What more could you ask for? The rose ice cream I sampled definitely had a rosy essence come out in full force. The black raspberry and clove were tasty too. I meant to get one of those two flavors on my second visit, but was lured away by the date ice cream which was *DELICIOUS*--so creamy and perfectly sweet. It was even better paired with a sugar cone. I didn't experience the staff/service issues another reviewer noted; the staff was very accommodating during both my visits. The time/day(s) I visited may have made a difference (Wednesday and Sunday afternoon/early evening); there was little or no line. The only minor downside is that some flavors may change from week to week; it'd be best to call before you go if you have your heart set on a particular flavor. read more
