This is a quiet restaurant with plenty of quality desserts. The German food was excellent. I especially liked the goulash pasta. The portions were not too heavy, and our server was friendly. Went here tonight with some friends, one of whom is a native German who wanted to show us the food of Germany and experience it for ourselves. The owner (I can't remember her name) was very nice and a sweet lady. She answered our questions and let us take our time with ordering. I got a German iced coffee which was incredible. My friends that also got it said the same thing. For my appetizer I got the cucumber salad. It was a bit sweet for my taste but was still good with the dill and when I added salt. For my entree I got the Jaegerschnitzel with the pork lions, with two sides of fried potatoes and red cabbage. The pork loins with gravy were phenomenal, probably the best I've had in years. The fried potatoes were good, but the red cabbage was just a bit sweet for me. It was cooked well though. Overall my friends and I had an awesome experience here. My friend from Germany was so happy that we loved the food and he seemed very happy to be there. The interior of the restaurant is reminiscent of Germany, and there was also German music playing. I did notice the owner speaking with my friend in German which I thought was very friendly and down to earth of her. 5/5, 10/10 and I'll be back if I can! read more

I'm totally biased because I love German restaurants. Don't let it being off of the main drag in Fayetteville be a real not to come in and enjoy some GREAT German food! This is a hidden gem in the Sandhills, a very pretty inside and cozy place with yummy German pastries and breakfast and dinner. It is now one of my GOTO places when I need a Deutschland fix. This may be the only German spot in town to survive the pandemic. It's not great, but it's solid and their staples are good enough to scratch the itch for German food and keep you coming back. I'd say the food is reminiscent of the workers Kantines at any Army garrison in Germany. They don't have any beer on tap, but have an OK selection of bottled beer. The par-baked dinner rolls, which they are perpetually out of, are awful so don't sweat it if they don't have any. The Jäger Schnitzel is my go to and their's gets the job done. We were passing through Fayetteville and decide to stop into Max and Moritz for lunch. The reviews for M&M are good but don't do the restaurant justice. The service is friendly and prompt and the food is truly out of this world! We started with cup of the Gulash, which was like being punched in the mouth with luscious beefy flavor. Not only was the broth so tasty but the beef in the Gulash literally falls apart in your mouth... I'm obsessed! My husband and I each order a different plate/sides for our entrees so we could try more things. I ordered the Currywurst plate with the red cabbage and spaetzel. The sauce was fantastic, knockwurst was yummy and cooked just right. The showstopper of lunch was my husbands meal.... He got the Beef Roladen plate with German potato salad and sauerkraut. Let me tell you that this dish was so delicious and beef so tender, I literally could not stop eating off his plate! Not to mention they have 2 coolers full of delicious looking desserts. Caution the only meal o tried was the sauerbraten. And that was not any sauerbraten I've ever tasted. I was served roast beef with brown gravy. I've made sauerbraten several different recipes. And gotten it at different German restaurants. I mentioned to the waitress who was very nice after the first bite and she told me it is made differently in various regions. Which I did know. But all of them still have a tangy sweetness to them. The red cabbage was alright. But truly I will not go back as I prefer the traditional sauerbraten.
