    Rahmschnitzel
    Lynn A.

Everyone who knows us are aware of our love of German food. Recently good friends told us about a new German establishment in Hope Mills named Oma's Schnitzel Haus. Today we finally got the opportunity to go over and try their excellent food. The schnitzels were outstanding, with wonderful sauces that really were authentic and delicious. The red cabbage side dish (Rotkohl) was spot on, with the wonderful taste of apple gleaming through, and the cucumber salad was also excellent. The Jägerschnitzel mushroom sauce was dead on great, and so was the Rahmschnitzel cream sauce. The Spätzle was fresh, tender, and succulent as well, we asked for Jäger sauce on it. Both of our desserts were perfect. The German Cheesecake was especially wonderful, with the exact density we've not had since coming back from Germany. We both highly recommend Oma's Schnitzel Haus. The only slightly inconvenient thing is that they are, at present, only take out, with no inside seating in the convenience store, where they are located, However, that will not stop us from returning. We will go again and again to get this top notch bit of German heaven. Everything was truly authentic and truly enjoyable. P.S. I asked for a taste of the Currywurst sauce, and it was the closest thing to what I had in Germany.

We take a look at the menu and notice that the pricing even for being downtown was very fair and somewhat surprisingly cheap. Especially once the food came out, they could be charging 50% more and I'd still be happy. The mac & cheese is something I've never tasted before very different but comfortable at the same time I believe three different cheeses are in it. I don't really like waffles or pancakes, but my girlfriend told me to try the potato pancakes and they blew my mind with the chive, sour cream and applesauce sides.. Now we could've just ordered from the appetizer menu since everything seemed perfect from there, but the Brussel sprout appetizer was by far my favorite with poppyseed vinaigrette. We had plenty to take home, and I finished it off the next day still amazed at how well it was put together. I got the chicken schnitzel for my main and it is perfectly prepared and cooked. The breading was fantastic crunchy in every delicious way I even use the applesauce as a dip along with the mushroom sauce that it came with my girlfriend got the Rachel sandwich and she loved her choice as well. Overall, everything we ate from the appetizer menu to main course menu to even the french fries and dipping sauces was phenomenal and again I cannot stress it is enough. The price is unbelievable for this quality of food.

Unfortunately, the service was very poor. The woman helping us was rude and seemed irritated the entire time we were there. We felt unwelcome and uncomfortable, which really took away from the visit. It was disappointing because the food was so good. With better service, this place could easily deserve a much higher rating.

We started walking around and my wonderful wife suggested Copper Penny. Absolutely! There was a short wait for a table, but we didn't mind. The inside is almost like we remember it. We did notice the menu is a lot smaller. The last time we dined here was around ten years ago. Definitely plenty of options. We went with the onion ring appetizer, Cobb salad, and the BBQ Burger. The atmosphere of Copper Penny is the same. Definitely missed this place. After a short wait our food was brought out. Everything was delicious. This is just an update, but we still love Copper Penny and will continue to return.

Very good and the fries as well. 3. Hot Roasted Pork Sandwich was very bland and had an excessive amount of spinach. Even the Au Jus couldn't rescue this sandwich. 4. The famous onion rings. Well they must of ran out of seasoning because these were more flour than flavor. Very doughy with no spices. Not worth the $9 * The alcohol mix drinks are pretty good. Definitely taste the flavor of each. Will give you a good kick.

It must have been an off night, I must have been grumpy, and my taste buds must have broken or something is basically all I can say for myself, but I'm SO glad I went back. J Betski's has consistently good food and their servers are always nice. They take reservations now, and you order through a QR code on the table, so it's an easy peasy experience, but if you need help there is also someone around for that. I am OBSESSED with their potato crisps and their simple cucumber salad. I get those every time we visit. They change the menu often enough to keep you interested in new things, but always have their staples available too. I'm a big fan of their Schnitzel and pirogies. My husband RAVES about their Smoked Brisket Burger. I would also argue that their Truffle Deviled Eggs are the best thing on the menu when they have them. They have great cocktails and a large beer selection. The only difficult thing about eating here is having limited space in my stomach because everything is seriously so good. Bonus: they have a dog friendly heated patio.

I'm always on the hunt for a good savory pastry so I got the ham and cheese croissant and it did not disappoint. Pro tip - take your pastries from the busy farmers market across the street to Dorothea Dix Park to birdwatch and overlook the city skyline! I was slightly shocked that 2 pastries were $20 - that's the only reason it's four instead of five stars!

These were the only items in their selection that had a price, $4, so I got two togo. The lemon bars and blueberry bars looked delicious, so I got two each for after dinner. We got 50 little neck clams, and needed some bread. Their sourdough looked good, so I got a loaf. The sourdough that we bought was literally the most dense bread I have ever eaten. Even soaking it in clam broth did not help. Tried an un-soaked piece, and it was like eating tough jerky. The dogs didn't even want it. After dinner I cut one each of the pastries in quarters to share. The lemon had a very slight taste of lemon (very very slight), and although the blueberry appears to be packed with fruit, it only tasted like soggy dough. (See pic). My last shot was the macaroon. I gave one to my daughter to split with me. She barely split it. The filling was like the mixed it with marshmallows. It stretched while the cookie crushed, and also did not taste good at all. I would like to think they got a new pastry chef that is learning, but sorry, at 42 bucks for that amount of food that was all bad, I'm not going to be another guinea pig. Oh, no one wanted the other lemon or blueberry bar, so sadly I threw them out.
