I have known Max for quite a long time. To be honest, he was a photo student of mine while he attended middle school. Many people aspire to be photographers and yes, the profession can accomodate many. However,there is a Rubicon so to speak which one must cross in order to excel if one has to deal with people and all their nuances every day in a variety of situations. Having also been in the wedding photography business, I know not only the skill that is necessary to succeed by which I mean satisfying the client, having them extoll your virtues and recommending you to others, but also and just as importantly ,one must have the ability to blend in; to become part of the family, to size up the group and individual dynamic in an instant because that is all you have. THAT is what separates a photograph from an eventually faded memory. We live in a rapidly changing world of "Instants". Max Flatow has the ability to make them timeless pieces of history. I have followed his blog, his site and him for quite some time and I am just blown away by his ability to capture the moment in the same way that the great photographer Bresson` had done a century ago. Max is the silent participant who knows where to be and when. His skill in this usually is reserved for those with many more years under their belts. I have seen his portrait and food work and I am equally impressed. Looking at his portraits allows one to see the actual personality of the subject. Can one want anything more? If I could give more stars I would. I planned my wedding in 8 days and thought I would have to forgo a professional photographer. I've known Max's work through friends who all spouted praises, so I gave him a call though (6 days to go). Max got back to me immediately and was incredibly helpful and worked with me to give me a package that I thought was incredibly generous for the time and price point I was at. Being accommodating is great, but being accommodating, funny and incredibly talented is another thing altogether. The photos were incredible. We had a tiny wedding (9 people, including Max!) in a big venue and Max managed to capture the incredibly intimate, yet boisterous and loving atmosphere of the party. His photos all had the common theme of being incredibly skilled, but also varied to cover every emotion, situation and dream I could have had for the day. Candid shots that show the real belly laughs, hauntingly beautiful glamor-esque shots (I swear that some other stunning woman was wearing my dress and kissing my husband, because I've never been that attractive!) and my favorite shots, the ones that captured the feeling of the wedding. To top it off he somehow did this all while not making our tiny wedding feel like a photo shoot. He knows his audience and how to work that to your photo's advantage. When I look at my photos, I don't just see that incredible day in my mind, I can feel it. Max captured the moments that seemed so spectacular in their fleeting intensity, and managed to give them to me and revisit whenever I look at those photos. Max is a true gem. With both of us having our first wedding (& hopefully only wedding!), we really had no clue what we were getting ourselves into. Max was extremely accomodating while not trying to get every dollar out of us. Max was up front about all of the costs, walked us through all of the options, and sincerely cared about us as a couple. We had engagement photos taken several months before our wedding that we still use a few years later. Max gave us all of the photos in high resolution that he took of us. Max was always respectful while taking photos, asking constantly what we wanted. He kept track of all of the photos we told him we wanted taken. When my wife's grandmother passed away a few weeks ago, one of the most beautiful photos of her was taken by Max at our wedding. All of our friends and family loved our wedding photos. We are so happy that we selected him as our wedding photographer. When we were planning our wedding, looking at cutting costs, we argued with each other if we even needed a professional photographer. Now we couldn't picture (pun intended) our special day with out him. read more

It doesn't get any better than Max Flatow. All you have to do is check out his website to see his mastery, but it goes beyond the artistry to quality of service. Max is incredibly responsive, personable, and just easy to work with. He is such a pro at what he does and put me at ease as soon as he arrived at the bridal suite. He can also handle any situation. My husband and I got married on a very rainy August day. We had about 30 minutes total respite from the thunderstorms to take all our family photos, wedding party and bride and groom shots before the ceremony began. Our photos turned out great anyway because Max knew how to make the most of this precious time. And watch out dance party -- Max will get right in the middle and get priceless shots. P.S. -- Max is very clear and thorough in explaining rates, pricing, and logistics and has a variety of packages to choose from. He understands the modern couple. Have Max Flatow taking the pics of my wedding was a blessing. I know many photographers because of my career, and I can say Max is different. Very talented, he knows how to capture the essence of the moment. I didn´t have any doubt about his professionalism after taking a look at his portfolio. But most of all, his personality capture us. He´s very nice as a person and professional, and comprehensive as well. My husband and I decided to do a City Hall wedding type, and we planned it in just one week!!!! We couldn´t have enough time to make the photo session that day, BUT as a friend of mine said: Those pics worth a THOUSAND pics!!!! We just loved it... I like that he can adjust to the moment, I mean, the result of our pics was a surprise for us, taking in consideration, our photo session was taken in the middle of a park full of snow! Many brides have different opinions about the most important detail for their wedding, and that is the area that they do the most research and spend the most amount of time trying to find the best possible choice. My most important detail was my photographer. I knew that pictures would be the only things that would help me capture every small and big detail about my wedding after it was over. We could not be happier with Max and his work at our wedding. I think the biggest compliment I could give him is the proof in the pictures of my husband who is actually smiling! He hardly ever smiles in photos and usually hates getting pictures taken of him. Also, my hard to please mother admitted that Max was a total professional when the rainy weather prevented us from taking pictures outside as originally planned.
