Make sure you ask for Derrick if you're looking for a barber. Before Derrick I was bouncing around from barber to barber, but once I got cut by Derrick I won't let anybody but him touch my hair now. The salon itself is such a vibe, everybody in there is friendly and/or welcoming I wouldn't recommend another barber nor salon. Max Johnson Salon is where it's at! I went today for my first time to this salon. right from the first moment I was greeted by the friendly front desk. My appointment was with Carolina. She was so warm and friendly. We consulted about my wishes and I showed her some inspiration pictures and she got to work. We talked and chatted all the way through. I felt so comfortable there! when she was done BOOM - It looked Gorgeous! it was Exactly what I wanted!! Shes a genius with hair!! Dana did my color and highlights yesterday at Max Johnson Salon and had an amazing experience. Dana is an amazing colorist and is always consistent with my color. I highly recommend if you are looking for a new colorist and someone who is extremely professional and will also take the time to listen to you. Then you must go to Max Johnson and ask for Dana. I just went to get my hair cut and dyed purple for the fourth time, and let me say it's amazing! Roseanne does a fantastic job with my hair, each time I go in expecting it to go the same as last time but Rosanne somehow manages to impress me each time. I recently visited Max Johnson for the first time and had a great experience.....thanks Brian you are awesome! Background: I have been going to another local salon for the past year and although professional, I never thought that my hair looked great. The salon and stylist caters to women and therefore, it just wasn't a fit for me. My wife has been going to Max Johnson (her stylist is also Brian) and I loved the way her hair turned out, so I decided to give them a try. I didn't have an appointment, which is always a crapshoot, but they were able to take me with only a 10 min wait. Stylist: The salon was pretty crowded for middle of the day during the week. I was greeted by a really nice girl at the front desk, who looked through the schedule and was able to fit me due to a cancellation. My stylist was the owner Brian, who has over 20+ years of experience working with women and men, so I felt comfortable that he would do a good job. Salon: The salon was clean and the stations were organized (7-8 stylists that day w/ @ another 5 stations available). Also, there were people getting coloring, haircuts, blowouts, etc. and all different age groups, definitely full service. Btw: the other patrons looked like they were regulars and seemed really happy with their services, which is always a good sign. Results: The results were awesome. I really enjoyed the conversation I had with Brian, he is friendly, but not overly talkative, which I appreciated. I went here 2x when I first moved here. The location was extremely close to my work and I could go at lunch. I've only gone to Kathleen. Let me say she is great and is also a knowledgable colorist. I went for a single process color and blow out. I would give Kathleen 4 stars because she is personable but can't say 5 stars because the pricing for a single process and blowout was $80. I come from San Francisco and was only charged $75 and that was at an impeccably clean high end salon. Mind you I am a stickler about my roots and go every 3-4 weeks so I become a very loyal customer once I find the right match. The interior was unfortunately not that clean, very cluttered. However the staff is friendly for the most part. Their assistant though is very rough around the edges. I have no idea what his name is because he never introduced himself and his shampoo was not relaxing at all. That head your touching is attached to me buddy. I'd like it to stay that way. I'd return if I couldn't get an appt elsewhere. I've started to go to the W salon instead. read more

I went here to get my hair done for a dinner that I had planned later in the day. I asked for highlights & I wanted them to be in the front of my hair to lighten my face up a little more since I already had a balayage. A stylist there started doing the highlights and let's just say when my hair was done it looked almost grey/green. I was so upset when I walked out of there. I called my friends to come and look at it and to see if it was just me or what it was supposed to be. So I called up the salon and asked for my hair to be fixed, and they told me to come back, so I did. I then told the stylist that I wanted my hair one color to fix what she had previously done that day. So she being the stylist didnt help me pick out a color, she just got me the book of colors and told me to pick one out. (As if I know what I'm actually doing, I'm not the professional) and now my hair is dark black/brown and I look horrible. The worst part on top of that is that the ends of my hair are falling out. I also got a olaplex treatment done and I'm pretty sure that putting hair dye over it ruined the treatment because my hair feels like straw. The owner of the salon gave me back 40$ and told me to come back and get a product or get a service. There is no way in hell that I will ever step back into that salon because my hair is ruined. I wish I could give this salon 0 stars. I just left there with an hysterical almost 12 year old girl. Her hair was cut way too short and completely uneven. When I called 10 minutes after I left and asked to speak to the. Owner he refused to get on the phone with me. Although he saw her crying in the salon. He also refused to give me a refund because I wouldn't run back over there to show him her hair. I explained I have 2 other children waiting for dinner. I then offered to text them pictures. And he still refused me a refund. Should be fun for my daughter who now won't be able to put her hair up for the whole 100 degree summer. Do not patronize this salon!!! read more

Dana has been my colorist and stylist for over 20 years, and I'm absolutely thrilled with the results every time! I didn't think I could be more impressed with Max Johnson Salon--until yesterday. I went to one of those eyebrow kiosks in a strip mall for tinting (that was my first mistake), and the girl spilled dye on my head. Blonde highlights with a black stripe down the middle! Eek! I drove to Max Johnson Salon immediately, with no appointment, and the owner himself worked on my hair until it was back to fabulous! It's easy to love your salon when everything goes right, but you really find out how great it is when you have an emergency like mine. read more

Derek is the best! My husband and I came to Parkland to visit from California for the holidays and of course he forgot to get his haircut before we left. This was very difficult for him since he's been getting his haircut by the same lady for the past 5 years.. Somehow I convinced him to get his haircut with Derek. Wow! He truly an artist! I have since relocated but was a resident of Parkland and patron of Max Johnson for 14 years. I was surprised to read a review about the young man at the sink. Of all the things I looked forward to it was having my hair washed by Derek. I loved the head massage and my hair never felt so clean. It is really disheartening that any hardworking individual would be judged as "rough around the edges." That's a rude comment from an obvious malcontent. Keep up the great work Derek. I have been going to Max Johnson for years and would have to MOVE AWAY as my reason for going somewhere else. I started to have my hair done by Liz about a year ago and I couldn't be happier. She came highly recommended by a close friend and her mom. She is very detailed oriented and makes sure she does highlights as close to the scalp as possible. The condition of my hair has also greatly improved since I started going to Liz. I have very fine hair with heavy blonde highlights, so it is very hard to grow longer than my shoulders. I'm happy to say that it is stronger and longer than it has been in years! read more
