Yay, it's #ThankYouThursday today! I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the awesome…read moreoptometrists, opticians, and staff at Southern Eye Care Associates in Valrico. The staff in the reception area are so kind, and very knowledgeable in letting you know what is covered under your plan. I never have to wait too long to be seen. In fact, all of my appointments have been on time. The technicians are great with getting you through each eye test station, and scanning the back of the eye with all the latest technology. It's an additional cost (not covered) for the OCT, but it's well worth it. It's highly recommended if you have a family history of glaucoma (like me). I've been seeing Dr. Hollis and Dr. Wright for 3 years now. They are both wonderful. They've been great in addressing all of my concerns, and offering great solutions. I've also been super happy with the opticians. I wasn't really able to wear progressive lenses until coming to this practice. I'm not sure why. All I can say is that every pair I've received here have been perfect. Picking out frames by myself has never been an easy task. The opticians here have always been able to find the right frames for the shape of my face. They make the whole frame shopping experience seamless and pleasant. I never feel rushed to make a decision. I never feel like they are trying to sell me expensive frames, unless I'm leaning that way. They truly have a knack for finding the right fit, and at a good price range. I don't think I've ever had an issue with the finished product. It's always a great experience!

I was on vacation and had a nose pad fall off of my glasses. They are lightweight rimless frames…read more I first went to one of those national lens chains and they didn't want to have anything to do with those frames. I went to Clarkson in Valrico and could not have been treated better. Thomas explained they didn't carry those frames at this store, but another one of their stores had them. He call that store and had them overnight them to Valrico. (The part is the tiny little rubber things that rest on your nose. The next day, I went in and met Robert, the store manager. FedEx arrived while I was there and Robert immediately had me on my way with 2 new nose pads at a very fair price (FedEx charges.) My glasses are again comfortable! This really points out the difference between a professional Optician and a vendor that makes you fit into their mold. Kudos to Robert and Thomas who went the extra mile for a person in need. I don't think you could go wrong by using this store to fit your glasses and make sure they are right for you.

I would not recommend going here. I went in for an eye exam and told the doctor that I was seeing…read moreperfectly with my current prescription. I passed all of the eye tests, but she still decided to make a significant change to my prescription. While I was in the office, she had me try a trial pair of contacts with the new prescription. I immediately told her that I could not see clearly with them and that I could no longer pass the eye tests she had just given me. She said the issue was that the contacts were not the right size and that I just needed time to adjust to them. I was required to order the new prescription, but after wearing the contacts for several days, my vision was terrible. I could not clearly see street signs or even people on the side of the road. It became so bad that I stopped driving altogether. I finally went back and insisted that she change my prescription back to my original one and order new contacts. Then, two months later, I received a bill for the replacement contacts even though I had already paid for the original contacts and was told this would be handled as an exchange. I have been going to eye doctors since I was 10 years old and have never had an experience like this. Go at your own risk!

Review is based from the outside, i didn't do the test but my mother did. She was told by Humana…read morethat they take her insurance with full power. Do they? No they don't. If you got an elderly sent here? Its better to shop around. I still gave them a 3.5 to 4. They were super busy but the visit wasn't too long. The staff were respectful. After the test we found out the insurance only covers the test. She chose to keep her own frames and even with that? They charged her $350+ for just the lens's. Thats crazy! Which means if u add a frame it will all be like 600+. Two weeks later we picked up the glasses. She doesn't listen to me when i tell her to just do the test n order online. I got 1 pair of 200+ n every other pair i paid $14.95 online. They are the same things just one is for the wows the other is for the sport related shenanigans. For the test it's ok. Get an estimate and just shop around.

Made a 2pm appt 2wks in advance. Arrived at 1:40. Crowded. No seats available. Filed out many forms. Wanted digital exam-no dilation, no air pulse. Called back to room exam. Was dirty. Waste on table with machine. I requested it being cleaned before exam. She looked put out. Rinsed her hands with water. Then took a paper towel she had dried her hands with and wiped machine and removed trash. I told her I wanted to talk to Dr before I signed for digital exam. Read the consent it said cost was $24.99 to be paid for before exam. Stated cost "may be reimbursed by insurance". I paid the $24.99. I have the receipt. Insurance said they never heard of that so no reimbursement. Went to see Dr Handy. We had a pleasant conversation about my health issues. I am type 2 diabetic & have Graves disease thyroid condition for about 45 yrs. It was determined I have the beginning of diabetic retinopathy. When I was meeting with customer rep. She started handing my papers to sign. I refused to sign a couple that I was told they were Hippa forms. As I glanced I noticed consent to "share" my info for marketing. I refused and verbally said I did not consent my info to be shared for marketing. Rep had to check with supervisor. Supervisor said I didn't need to sign but they wouldn't be able to share my report with my Dr. That's not true. Then as I read report of exam I noticed it was checked as having "Type1 diabetes- I am type2. I requested a correction. Rep. left to talk with Dr. Came back saying that type1 would be fine. Coded as E103.21. No correction. Also stated my eyes were dilated. Coded as 2022F. They were not. So this misinformation worries me as this will be in my medical record. NOT OK. I called my insurance and relayed these errors for the notes. I was eligible for $400 glasses. I didn't need another pair of glasses. I'm hoping they don't enter another purchase. I will not go back to your stores. I was in this store for over 2 1/2 hrs.
