For being one of the larger Chinese bakery chains in the world, this location of Maxim's is solid. They may serve the best baked goods ever, but they're certainly far from the worst in Richmond. It was probably a little presumptuous for me to think the food would be anything like the Maxim's chain in Hong Kong, but these were definitely on the average side. There is a small but decent selection of pastries here, one might fare better with the crossants, fruit cakes, cake slices, and mini pies than the Chinese goods. Be it egg tarts, random baos, almond cookies or moon cakes, most of the hardly impressive. While it's true I haven't had them in the morning (when all bakeries seem to be at their best), I also know quality buns last longer too. Vancouver-Richmond is way too expensive for its own good but at least for Maxim's, the price is right. Stop by after 6pm, the same day items might be available for as much as half off. read more

I'm surprised that there is only one review of this place when there is so much mall traffic. Whenever I come into this mall I will get something here for a snack. Today, I did the strange Asian thing, by getting those wiener buns with cheese. I grew up on this. The concoction is an Asian sweet bun that has some strange cheese mixture and a wiener baked into it length-wise. Maxim's Bakery is ubiquitous in Hong Kong and it's nice to see an outpost of the familiar chain in Richmond. It's a small store front and almost easy to miss as you are perusing the mall, but they serve the standard pastries and baked goods Maxim's is known for. We stopped by to try the Portuguese egg tart and while it was delicious, it was very tiny. The other pastry roll we got was too sweet which is very unlike the items usually from this Asian bakery. Ahhh.. Maxim's bakery!! I used to work at the clothing store just across from maxim's back in highschool for 1.5 years!! I still remember that co-workers and I always take turns to go maxim's to get our lunch/snacks/dinner/breakfast lol!! cheap and convenient :-) I remember one of my co-workers kept telling me to get the biggest pieces for croissant since their croissant sizes are unequally distributed for some reason!! I used to get pineapple Danish, tuna Danish, and some coconut buns yum yum!! Since I was away from the town for a while, I kinda forget how those buns tasted like at maxim's!! So I ditched Kam Do, which I really like their baked goods just for today to try maxim's bread again. I got the sausage corn and cheese bun :-) It was just as good as I remembered! I love bakeries with their lovely aromas. And Maxim's doesn't disappoint. Maxim's is a good place to get a quick snack when you're running low from all that shopping. Their baked goods are quite fresh, with the bakery replenishing goods occasionally. You'll find all the traditional Asian bakery treats from egg tarts to wiener buns to pork-filled buns. I love pineapple buns - sweet crust topping on a soft bun. They make cakes for all occasions as well: I suggest the Mango cake - fresh mangoes and fluffy, sponge cake. There's usually a small line-up whenever I go, but the cashiers are quick and accurate. Note: If you buy 6 baked goods or more, there's no tax. read more

I went to Maxim's bakery after seeing a friends birthday cake - definitely impressive! The cakes are very well presented, and look appealing, especially for the low price! It was my mothers birthday, so I wanted to get her a black forest cake, which is her favorite. There was a lovely black forest cake on display for sale, topped with caramelized fruit, whipping cream and chocolate flakes attached. Well, it was just a chocolate cake with whipping cream. It did not have any cherries in it (traditional black forest) or Kirschwasser. The cake tasted like it was made with pre packaged cake mix. My mother liked it, but I was a little embarrassed that it was not the cake she grew up with and has always loved. The cake was good, the whipping cream was real. Though the fruit had no business being on the top of the cake, it didn't really go with the chocolate. (Dragonfruit, cantelope, melon, grapes) I'm still on the hunt for a bakery that has REAL black forest cake. The price for the cake was good. I also wasn't expecting it to be cash only. Maxim's Bakery sells so much different things. From egg tarts to cakes, it all there. Maxim's is a very in expensive place so I always go there for a quick fix or if I'm on a buget but just beware that some of the things have a decent amount of calories. Almost everytime I go to Maxim's, I would see a worker refilling the pastries so I do assume that they are fairy fresh. Since I was little, I loved how they decorated the cakes with such beauty and everytime there's a reason for me to get cake (lol) I would head straight for Maxim's (I highly recommend the chestnut cakes) I've been to many Asian bakeries but Maxim's is without a doubt my favourite. So I wanted Chinese Buns.. and in Richmond. I know about Kam Do... so I asked my relatives where to get some good BAOS. They knew just the place - MAXIMS... not out of the ordinary I suppose as I know they are extremely popular in HK, back where i'm from and I've also had a not so great experience with the one in Chinatown. None the less, they made a pit stop just for me at Richmond Centre to the Maxim's bakery where they go everyweekend. the place was busy and the bus were constantly being replenished. the pineapple buns were minis - 3 for $1.40... not larger size. People were going left right and centre, and egg tarts were still being made with 7 minutes left in the baking process. My relative decided not to wait. It's proabably my fault that the review isn't getting more stars. I waited until I got home to try the bun.. they would've tasted a lot better if I had them while they were stil hot. However, my red bean bun was inconsistent in location of filling, and my the texture of my mexican bun was a little dry. No complaints on the pinaeapple and raisin, so I'll stick with 3.5*. read more

I hope they're really just closed for renos and not a casualty of the bad economy :( So when I have a craving, Maxim's is a convenient stop. This is a traditional Chinese bakery chain with locations throughout the Vancouver area. Consistency varies and sometimes the buns are very fresh and other times, they're a bit hard. I do love their ham and green onion buns. Cakes and swiss rolls are pretty good. The only thing that's a regular disappointment are their sesame balls and egg tarts - how hard is it to make a nice flaky crust and a non-dense ball? Self-service here. Basic in and out at checkout. Freshly baked bread with a very good variety. The price is super reasonable as well. We were visiting from Chicago and I have to say this place is better than any Chinese bakery in Chicago. Wish we had one like this in Chicago. We ended up buying enough bread for the week and went back twice. Highly recommended to go in the morning when everything comes out fresh and warm! read more

Small selection of cakes and pastries. There are buns and single slices of cakes to choose from. We pretty much bought one of everything there. If you love fruit cakes, you're in luck. Their cakes are beautifully decorated and fairly inexpensive. We never ended up finishing all the pastries because it honestly didn't taste that good. My egg tart was alright, though. Maxim is delicious in Hong Kong so I was anticipating for the same quality at this Maxim, since the majority of owners here are from Hong Kong. However, I was met with disappointment. I wonder if the lowered standard here as any correlation with their customers. I don't think anyone shopping in Chinatown here has high standards for pastries. Going on a tangent, but where are the customers in Chinatown? We were the only family walking around Chinatown. What? Our Chinatown in San Francisco is constantly packed with people. This is a pretty solid place to get Chinese buns in Richmond Centre (it can't be that bad, given the stiff competition around here for decent Chinese bakeries). I like their mango items, they used to make a cake that's covered with mango slices, but I didn't see it when I went to the mall today, sadly. Today they garner only two stars - specifically for service. Didn't get the name of the round faced short chin lengthed black hair stout Chinese lady but she should take a course in manners & customer service if she is going to continue in that business where she will run into customers who speak English with an Asian face. I asked for my bought items to be placed in a box as she was putting a BBQ pork bun into a plastic self sealing bag. She gave a disgusted "rolling the eyes" expression as if I was inconveniencing her. Isn't the customer always right? Besides the "bad" service, she didn't acknowledge a thank you with a " your welcome" after I said thank you for her service. I think she needs some English speaking lessons. Aside from the service, the buns tasted good although a bit dry - purchased at 6:00 pm - Monday evening Feb. 20th. Near the end of day - I was really hungry for a snack. I had a cold Hong Kong style milk tea and boy was it bitter ! I don't remember hk milk tea being like this (I've been to Hong Kong before)

More delicious than I expected. Soft fluffy breads, lots of coconut stuffing in the coconut buns. Service is ok.

This is a major chain bakery, however, for cheap and simple this is awesome. Nothing here is gluten free, however, when I have a lazy day baking and want some cheap Asian pastries this is the best place to go. They're right beside T&T market. I like the cafeteria idea of using thongs and placing said pastries on tray. Most hygienic method of self serve pastry grabbing (bit of a germy). They are cash only which is why I don't stop in here on a regular basis, however, they have dirt cheap prices on pastry. It's always busy and the staff just wanted to serve the line as efficiently as possible. In fact this is one of the few Asian bakeries in which the staff have been smiling and efficient with the check out. They will even take a few quick seconds to put all your pastries in individual baggies to prevent cross flavor and germ contamination. They wear gloves which I rarely see other bakeries do. Maxim's is a regular Chinese bakery for my mom and I. Most of the relatives B-day cakes have been from here. read more

I used a Maxim $10 gift card in Richmond center Maxim , they charged me a box fee ( I think $1.00 ) , then , because the price of the egg tower ( 6 for $5.00 ) , the cashier said : Gift card cannot be used on discount items , then she added 1 more dollar ( 6 for $6.00 ) . And I think this is a rip , Gift card is a card that my friend already paid to buy it and gave it to me . And also I found the other company does not charge the paper box.
