So I started out by being invited by one of my co-workers, who is a client at their Lexington office, to their free class on toxins. The class was really informative. However, my only critic is that the information may be presented too fast for the lay-person or persons just hearing about it for the first time. I was already familiar with much of the information before hand so it was not difficult for me. Through this class I found out about their "dinner with the doc" events where you can attend a free dinner at Miyo's to hear about what chiropractic is and the philosophy of the Maximize Living brand. I must say that I never looked at chiropractic care in the way they presented it. As a B.S. Biology degree holder, the way they described chiropractic care seemed to make since. I was shocked, because I had never looked at or thought about chiropractic like that. The main thing I like is that a lot of there principles and the information they put out in their free community info classes are things and topics I am already interested in learning about. For instance their 5 principles are to maximize your #1 mind, through positive thoughts, #2 oxygenation, through exercise, #3 nutrition, through eating whole foods and limiting sugar, #4 toxins, through limiting you exposure to toxins & detoxing, & #5 maximize nerve supply, through chiropractic adjustment. I have received about 21 adjustments to date, and I am seeing some improvements. I notice that I am able to stand up taller, it is easier to hold my stomach muscles in, people have commented that I look like I have lost weight(I haven't I'm just standing taller which makes me look slimmer), & I am having more bile movements (hope this is not TMI) I will say that it is pricy. I think some insurance companies might cover it, but my type of health care doesn't. However, I have been dealing with chronic pain for a long time, and I was willing to invest in the possibility of living pain free. I would suggest that interested persons attend their free community classes to get a taste of what they are like, and attend the free dinner. Both of these events will give you a good introduction and first impression. read more

This is not what I was looking for. Not one bit. First of all I have a PPO to which I am entitled to 20 chiropractic adjustment a year - they did not accept. I paid $98 dollars for an adjustment and X-rays. X-rays I know now from my new chiropractor I did not require. It's took 2 Hours from start to finish for me to get out of this place. Something I do not have the luxury of. I've done maternity chiropractor care. And have gotten adjustments many times in the last 10 years. This may suit your needs if you are a non working person, maybe retired person or yoga mom. This is not the place if you're busy, need help in a reasonable amount of time ... I would say 45 minutes is reasonable. But this place even to go over x-rays was going to take 1.5 to 2 hours. And again they did not accept my PPO from a blue Shield. The actual adjustment was pretty solid hence the two stars. read more

Oh my goodness i wish I would Have read and paid attention to the review on this page that says it's like the Truman show....: I sadly Feel like i have Been duped by capital city. I was Told by Jody when i made The appointment for the next day that it would only cost $45, to which i was assuming and expecting to get adjusted along with that. She did add that the xrays are $30 a view should the dr recommend that, but "that's between you and the dr". So i arrive For my appointment and was then told that they never adjust on the first appointment, but they never say that over the phone either. We are a military family with one sole income, and our insurance pays for not a cent of chiropractic care, and i was made to feel guilty for putting a "price on my health" as i was only prepared to pay $45 like Jody told me the day before, not $165 for an evaluation and xrays but no adjustment. Beware of this practice. I feel They are definitely in it for the money as i repeatedly asked what kind of financial commitment we were looking at and couldn't get an answer..... i felt that they were more interested in my money and not for the personal benefit of my well-being. Im so sorry i gave Them $45 for them to tell me my neck hurt.... which was why i was Trying to be seen in the first place. read more

This place is absolutely horrible and a complete scam. My husband and I got roped into going because of the "fabulous' deal they were having at the Home and Garden Show. We now know it was too good to be true. After paying the upfront fee at the show of $40 for each of us, I started doubting if they could do the things that they actual advertised. The day before our appointment, Jodie from the Irmo location called to confirm our appointment. I missed her call, so I called her back later. At that time I asked her if I could cancel our appointment and them refund our $80 dollars as we were no longer interested. She stated that she wasn't sure, but would find out. I asked her to call me back before my appointment the next day at 430. Of course, I didn't hear from her. To my surprise, she was the one that greeted us and gave us additional paperwork to fill out. When I questioned her on why she didn't return my call, she acted surprised at the question and stated she didn't even remember speaking with me and asked if maybe I spoke with Amy. You could tell she was totally playing dumb because she knew that she was lying which completely irritated me even more. If you forgot, please tell me that you forgot. Don't lie to me about it. Anyway, she went through the paperwork and stated the doctor would probably do x-rays that would be $25 for each of us. She failed to mention that it would be $25 for each of us for each x-ray done. We each had 4 x-rays done for a total out of pocket cost of $200. It wasn't until after the x-rays were completed that we were hit with the $200 bill for myself and my husband. She acted completely shocked when I told her she didn't explain that well and neither did the doctor. She said "I always try to explain that well." Um, yeah well you didn't! So, x-rays were taken and we were scheduled to come back a few days later to discuss the x-rays and results. After we left I told my husband that certain things about the establishment were weird like them blaring Christian music (I'm a Christian and not offended, but given how offended everyone in today's society is over religion, I thought it was odd), the number of people that came in and out in the 45 minutes that we were there and how they knew everyone's name when they entered the establishment. We returned two days later for our evaulation expecting to see our x-rays. We walked into the building and they immediately knew our names. (WEIRD!! I find it hard to believe that a place with that many people coming in and out each day makes it that easy to remember names.) Before our next visit I had time to Google Maximized Living and found some interesting things that only confirmed my thoughts. When we finally sat down with the doctor my mind was pretty much already made up that they were a load of crap before she even opened her mouth to tell me that I had severe spinal issues that would take a significant amount of time to repair. She also told my husband the same thing. My husband has been visiting a chiropractor for years (in his hometown) so I find it hard to believe he had aquired severe issues after not seeing his hometown doctor in over a year. I read online that this is the standard for what they tell people whether it's true or not. It's a scam to get additional money out of you. Many people end up getting scammed into thousands of dollars in debt to correct problems that really aren't that significant or don't exist. When the doctor started her spill and I found out it would be another visit before we even saw the x-rays that showed proof of what was wrong, I immediately told her I wasnt interested in being adjusted that day and didn't want to make an appointment to be adjusted in the future considering that her adjustments were going to be another $50 for me and $30 for my husband(apparently they give a discount on the second person). Once she found out I wasn't interested and we didn't buy her spill she immediately cut off our conversation and ushered us out of the door. I ended up calling back to the office and asking for a copy of our x-rays to get a second opinion. I was told that th x-rays must be printed and I'd have to schedule a time the following week to pick them up. When I returned to get my x-rays I had to sign a release form which stated I would return MY x-rays that I paid $200 for back to them within 30 days. Hmm...this is new to me. I've never had to return something that I paid for out of pocket. I also found it odd that the office had to print the x-rays yet the doctor was able to tell us exactly what was wrong with us before we ever saw the x-rays. Now, I'm not an x-ray technician, so I'm not exactly sure how the viewing and printing of x-rays works, but this seemed odd to me. Overall, my husband and I had a terrible experience with this place and it's staff. He and I are currently shopping around for other chiropractors in the area. I would not recommend this place to anyone. It's a complete rip off. read more

This place treats you like family. They address you by name as soon as you enter and with so many patients I'm impressed that they always remember! This is not your typical chiro office in that they do not exist to provide temporary pain relief when you have the odd back pain flare up. They focus on your entire lifestyle which includes the five essentials of Maximized Living and treat the whole person. A coworker put his business card in a fishbowl at a business and won a free "lunch" for his office. We get to the room where the "lunch" is being served only to find out that this is all a scam to drum up business for this chiropractor. Before we got any food we had to fill out a form telling him what our health complaints were, and include our contact info. Then we had to sit through a 20 minute seminar trying to scare us into thinking that all of our problems are from a spine that is out of whack. After that he said that we had to sign up for an appointment to get your lunch, all for the low price of $45. That's when I walked out. If you have to scam people to go to your chiropractic office, I don't want to go to you. After all that, it turns out the "lunch" was a small piece of a sub, no chips or drink. Seriously? read more

I have stage IV metatastic breast cancer and taking a strong chemo med in pill form which causes fatigue and all sorts of side effects. Weirdest thing I have ever seen. They give everyone the same diagnosis, same exercises and diet. It is like an assembly line. No personalization at all. Told me to follow the diet to lose weight and I am under weight. They want like $2,000 up front. Went for a second opinion and the diagnosis was totally wrong. I've been most impressed with capital city chiropractic with their diligence to treat each patient as a whole, not simply adjust the spine. For example, they offer free classes about nutrition, healthy living, home care, healthy cooking, etc... Everything they do is studied and practiced by a big team of doctors world wide. I cannot speak highly enough about Capital City Chiropractic. The best way to describe this operation (both locations as I've been to Lexington and Irmo) is a family that truly makes you feel cared for. They (and not just the doctors but the staff as well) genuinely want to see people get well and somehow seem to know every person's name that walks through their doors. I was a bit skeptical before I became a patient because I wasn't quite convinced that adjustments could solve some of my health issues, but my digestive improvements, reduced back pain, and much better sleep have convinced me that the stories I was hearing of people finally having breakthroughs in their health (ie. weight loss, being able to finally get pregnant, getting off medications etc.) are true. They also put on some cool events, healthy potlucks, and present on things like reducing toxins, better nutritional choices, how to exercise effectively, etc.. the way health care should really be done in every doctor's office. They will teach you how to understand health the way God designed it so that your body can heal on its own. Some people think chiro care is expensive, but any investment is going to cost upfront but be well worth it in the long run. Readjusting the spine back into place will obviously not happen overnight. And it can take years for spinal misalignment to begin to deteriorate your health, meanwhile putting a ton of pressure on your nervous system affecting your heart, thyroid, digestion. etc. I read a review that "they give out the same advice to everyone...." but that's because the basic fundamentals of health ARE the same for everyone..Take care of your spine, minimize toxicity, eat minimally processed foods, exercise, etc. I just really believe in what they do and know they genuinely care for people. I'm writing this in hopes to help others understand this business. I agree with both the positive and negative comments on this site about the approach of this Maximized Living location. Why do I say that? Yes, the approach they take is expensive...you are going to pay for this alternative approach to health care. I didn't find them being deceptive in any of this, they pretty well explained their approach during the first two visits and I could have walked away after having spent a few hundred bucks for some Xrays and some consultations as my cost. I'm still not sure believe the fundamentals of their belief system...that fixing the spine will heal the body. That said, I paid the fee because I'd heard great testimonials from people I trust about their treatment and results. These people would have told me otherwise if their experience had been different. Maybe I'm a fool, but I am also feeling much better now after three weeks of adjustments than I have in several years. Just last night my wife commented about the change in my energy level. Will it meet all the hype of their PR...I'll write about this in a future review. In summary, if you go in expecting "cheap" you are not going to find it here but you might also discover a positive outcome. So on balance I'm a bit more positive than negative. If there was a 3.5 that is what I'd have given. read more
