Well I'm just going to make this short and simple. I honestly forgot to take pics this time (of my…read morefood)! I've been here several times and was only disappointed in the Mac & cheese ( not to my household liking). We have had turkey ribs, greens sweet potatoes turkey legs was until this visit happened on Saturday 10-11-2025. I stopped in ordered 2 turkey legs so that I could use them in my food I had to prepare for my sister's homecoming celebration. Well I got the turkey legs home ‍ and getting ready to pull off bone and place in my Red beans and my green beans. When I unwrapped them I realized my turkey legs wasn't fresh had been reheated to where the meat was hard and the color was dark, and not falling off the bone per usual. I may go back, but it'll take a longer time.

This is 12:30pm - My 1st time eating there was to try a local North County spot for oxtails…read more The oxtails were just average, nothing exciting - 5/10. The meat was tender but tasted like a crock-pot version with no authentic Jamaican seasoning ingredients. The greens were a 7 out of 10. I realize restaurants must make their food for all types but most Soul Foods spots will season 'like we usually do'. I did a comparative study between Meats & more and the best Jamaican restaurant in the Lou = Main Street Diner in St. Peter's. Main Street diner has authentic Jamaican food made cook to order. They brown the oxtails first and then prepares an aromatic trio of seasoning - thyme, garlic & ginger. They also use Pimento (Allspice) with a unique blend of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg & other Jamaican spices that tie the sweet, savory & spicy together in a succulent gravy. The Scotch bonnet peppers & sauce are intermixed/braised with the meat, sauce, gravy & butter beans. All of Main Street Diner's food are a 10/10 - RedSnapper, Jerk Chicken, Curry Shrimp, Oxtails, Brown stew chicken, goat, Chicken/Beef patties, etc... All entrees come with rice & peas and cabbage.

We didn't know the area well and the last few lunches we had at this location were average. One girl that used to work in the area, came up and said "oh, we have to go to Paul's market! ". I was skeptical because it sounded like we were having lunch at a grocery store. Turned out, it was a butcher shop and deli with a great menu. We were a fairly big group and they worked their way through our orders efficiently as well as the other customers. They gave the kind of service I like when I eat out. I asked them what the best item on the menu was they asked me a couple questions, gave me a recommendation. (the Italian stallion.) and asked me some follow up questions about condiments, they answered a few more questions and they delivered! When I was looking at sides to have with it, he told me the sandwich was " hefty". He was he was right. A lot of times when I'm out for a quick bite I might swing by a Jimmy John's or a subway just to get a quick sandwich, but this was an example of why it's always best to go local. While we were in the ordering process, the guy who looked like the butcher and was also the owner came over to check and make sure we were getting our needs met. He was very busy, but he even made it outside once we all were served to check on things and thank us for coming by. I had a chance to look around and noticed the full valley of barbecue fried chicken and all their sides. I went over and looked at the meat counter in the steaks and other items looked fantastic. Not what you find at the grocery store. As someone who worked in the food service industry in high school and college, my standards for good service are relatively high. This experience reminded me of my days at a locally owned family run business with great food and great service and a responsive staff. Now that I know where this is when I'm in North County that's where I'll be stopping

I love that it is small and family owned, love supporting any small business! They had very healthy and meaty oxtails, steaks and wings. They had several other things but I kept it pretty light for the first visit! I absolutely love that they offer hot food as well. The service was fast and friendly. I'll be back!
