I stopped in Max's Gourmet Bagels for the first time today. I'm torn on how best to provide a review because of the Jekyll and Hyde nature of the place. THE BAGELS: Finally decided to go with a five star because MOST people will go there for the bagels AND the bagels are great! Crispy outsides chewy insides just as a bagel should be. If you're looking for a bagel, you can't go wrong here. AMBIANCE: Now, that I've given you Jekyll, let's talk about the Hyde. If you're looking for a place to eat breakfast with some atmosphere, you won't find it here. "Perfunctory" is the word that comes to mind. Plastic ware, baskets and napkins, functional tables and chairs self-serve coffee... that's what you'll get here. BREAKFAST: If you're looking to have a good breakfast with your bagel, forget it. "Afterthought" would be the word to best describe their breakfast offerings. I ordered bacon, egg and a sesame bagel, along with a tea (forget my tea Latte). The bagel was great but the bacon and egg looked and tasted like they picked it up at the nearby McDonnalds and slapped it on a plate. BOTTOM LINE: My key "customer so what" with every place I review... Would I come back? The answer... YES, for a dozen bagels but a most definite NO for breakfast. read more

My little sister suggested that we check this place out, and I'm glad we did! It was delicious! We ordered at the counter and then ate our food outside. I had a delicious "New Yorker" that was a delicious salmon and lox but I got it on a jalapeño and cheese bagel, it was delicious and I had it with a Natalie's OJ with pineapple juice! Friendly greeting I paid $4.80 for one sesame bagel with very light butter. Is this price normal for Nov 2025? The Max bagel was ok but small (1/2 the size of a New Yorker bagel which are online and frozen and delicious). In light of that price I will continue to order from New Yorker Bagels online which are much bigger and delicious which are $44 for two dozen bagels and are twice the size of the Max Bagel. Im all for shopping locally but the cost is too high read more

Bagels were small, and just ok. I ordered olive cream cheese on a bagel, and the spread was given to me in a container so that I could make my own sandwich. And, several of the olives were whole and uncut. I guess there's a first for everything. read more

Love their bagels. They taste very good. Wide selection but you have to get there early because they run out of some. Bagels are very fresh. Stood up in the store for 5 to 8 minutes. Three employees looked at us. No one said be with you in a minute nothing, huh kept turning their backs finally one goes to help someone and take someone who walked in five minutes after rush when I mentioned we've been waiting I just got a stare, and the customer proceeded to order, and the clerk continued to take her order. Terrible bagels. The crust is soggy, the dough lacks "pull" and needs salt. My wife and I are both disappointed. We're originally from NYC and grew up with good bagels. Then we lived in Columbus, Ohio, where we could get very good Bruegger's bagels, which aren't available in this part of Florida. Max's bagels are less appetizing than most packaged supermarket bagels. Max's has a sign that says it was voted #1 on the Treasure Coast. Who did the voting? Max himself? My order was so messed up, and the difficulty we had to go through to place the order, there was no way I was going back to ask them to fix it. Save yourself and go to Dunkin. I am not the type to give a one star review. This instant is warranted. The place looks clean however it's my word against theirs and I saw then drop something and still serve it. With that being said I personally will not go back. When asked by another about the incident his response was I have to pay for what I drop. Read into that as you will. I am a big fan of bagels and I I have lived in New York for over 20 years. I had bagels for breakfast almost every day of the week in NYC. These bagels are absolutely the best tasting bagels I've ever had anywhere outside of New York. The shop is very clean, the shelf is very presentable and the variety is just terrific. You don't have a job without customers. Wish I could give a zero. Walked in for the first time. It will be the last. The woman working there was only interested in washing dishes. My 88 year old father and I wanted to try something new. Stood there for 2-3 minutes and the women didn't even acknowledge our presence. I interrupted her to ask if we could order. She was a bit rude but finished what she was doing hen came to take our order. She was snarky so I told her I'll just take the water cause I don't want to deal with her attitude. She said the water is on the house. We left. In the way out the door I said, "this was our first time in, that's how it goes?We definitely won't be back" She was washing dishes before the door closed. Once again, wondering how this place is still open. Pulled up and three people are sitting outside at a table with no masks, smoking like chimneys. I walked passed and entered store. Woman gets up from table and follows me inside, blowing smoke like a train as she brushed by me. She walks directly behind the counter without a mask and says, "What can I get ya?" as she proceeds to slip on one glove instead of washing her nasty hands. I said, "Umm, a mask and another glove after you wash your hands from smoking." Blank stare. Nothing else. I left without ordering. Been trying to find a reason to not dog this dump for years of let downs, but cannot. Never leave this place with anything but disdain. Great everything bagel with smoked salmon, capers, onion and CC. The staffer was very friendly. The place is very clean. Outside dining was nice until some idiot backed his diesel truck up and keep it running, basically fumigating the patio. I told him he gassed us, he was like, so what. With children in tow. One slim slice of a "tomato" and WHITE onion with a skimpy slice of Nova & a minuscule portion of cream cheese (& about 4 capers!). If it's not boiled, it's just a roll with a hole. Sadly, that is what Max's serves as bagels; rolls with holes. Granted they are some of the best imitation bagels in the area, but they are not bagels. Friendly staff, fair selection of rolls and spreads and so so prices make this an OK stop for breakfast. I wouldn't go far out of my way to get here, but with the Stuart Lowes and Home Depot practically across the street, it is convenient. read more

I didn't go there to eat lunch, but because I've been searching for a real bagel for decades. I can't find a decent plain bagel even in New York any more - either in size or taste or texture. I don't know about service or sandwiches, but I know about bagels and you're not going to find a better one. You can keep the holy grail - I've found my righteous bagel. I don't even know what the prices are - I don't care. The search is over. I cannot understand why anyone would suggest going to Publix for a presliced horror with a chemical aftertaste, but who cares? That leaves more for me. read more

Love their bagels but it always seems it takes forever and this morning was the final time ( I've stood there while the co workers have been talking and no one acknowledges you) I will not be going back. This morning , I was standing on line and a few people behind me. The one lady was taking an order and there was another lady behind the counter. Well a man ( a regular) walks in and she takes him. He says " take them" ( meaning the 3-4 of us in line before him) and she turned around and said " No , that's okay". And proceeds to make his make his sandwich. Like none of the customers In front of him matter or have places to be. That is what a line is for. First come, first serve. I go there because it's a bagel place and supposed to be FaST.
