What a venue! It's a hike to get to Maxville Lake Winery but worth every turn and narrow road. Once there you are rewarded with a magical winery complete with outstanding wines, service and views. Our wine educator was Caitlin Zitko. Caitlin knows wine and better yet she knows interesting facts and stories associated with the winery. She allowed us to sample numerous Maxville wines and provided food to go along with each wine we tasted. Maxville Winery hit our radar because we learned Rockstar Winemaker Jeff Owens is making their wines. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we plan to bring friends and visit again on our next Napa trip. My friends and I stumbled on Maxville Winery during our Napa weekend, and it instantly became the highlight of our trip--easily one of the most genuine, welcoming tastings we've ever done. From the moment we pulled up, the staff greeted us by name (they'd remembered our reservation note about celebrating our anniversary!) and led us to a shaded patio overlooking rows of Cabernet Sauvignon vines. The wines themselves? Stellar. The 2019 Cabernet was rich with blackcurrant and vanilla, balanced perfectly, and we ended up buying a bottle to take home (they wrapped it in a cute linen bag as an anniversary gift--such a nice touch!). We also split their charcuterie board, which had local goat cheese, honey from their on-site beehives, and crusty sourdough that paired flawlessly with the rosé. If you're in Napa and want to skip the crowded, touristy spots for something personal and delicious, Maxville Winery is a must. We arrived without any expectation ( lots of other places have disappointed us), but oohlala the food & drinks were extraordinary. We love the sauv blanc & merlot . So this will be a long one because there's so many wonderful things to say! My first visit to Maxville Winery was superb! Felt very good about Maxville even during booking the reservation.Doug handled my reservation and was professional and kind. While on the phone with him "I remembered thinking to myself... "I hope he's the wine expert that will serve us"...and he was to my delight! He was incredibly friendly, VERY knowledgeable on wines/wine industry, and shared the best anecdotes! He is seasoned in the wine industry and you learned quickly that he loves his career and particularly his role at Maxville. Which attests to what I believe is a healthy workplace culture. Now..about the wines ....My favorites were the Merlot and the Petite Sirah...they were DIVINE! They both smelled AMAZING and Petite Sirah was rich and bold..just like I like it. Next time I hope to try some others, particularly the Malbec. Additionally, I opted for a charcuterie board and we loved everything offered! We were graced by the talented chef's presence...I thought that was a lovely touch. Chef Bri was super sweet AND surprised my friend with a shareable birthday treat that was delish!!! The 90mins felt like 10 mins..went by waaay too fast! FYI note: one of the best things about Maxville is its location, for one it's beautiful! (Pictures do it no justice!) but also it's more so off the beaten path and you will not get much cell service, although WiFi is available when you arrive. However, if you are relying on Uber/Lyft, I'd recommend scheduling a ride prior to the day of your reservation to ensure you will get picked up. Furthermore, since your driver may not have service to let you know they have arrived, look out at parking lot during the scheduled pick up time to check. This worked well for me. Truly an unbelievable winery. We were running a bit late, but they still seated us and gave us such a personalized experience. Ryan was incredibly friendly and informative; I'm a wine novice and he was so patient and took his time showing us the differences and nuances to each wine we tasted. And we even ran into one of the owners during our visit, we love an Asian-owned business! It's a little bit out of the way, but it's so worth the privacy and beauty of the property. We were seated on a couch just outside of the huge sliding doors, which was perfect on a 100 degree sunny day so we could enjoy the view while getting a bit of the AC breeze on our back. There's a lake on the massive property that you're welcome to explore and enjoy during your visit. I bought 3 bottles after our tasting, and they were packed up beautifully and travelled really well. We weren't sure how it was going to go for our tasting when we got here back in January because they couldn't find our reservation (turns out the guy that made it had called out that day). But it ended up turning out great! They gave us a nice pour of wine while we waited and ended up having their winemaker come do our tasting. He was so sweet and I loved his French accent. Their wines were all great and super affordable. Their tasting area is beautiful, overlooking a pond and lush grassy hills. The membership club options are reasonable (yes we signed up for one!). And the winemaker even gave me a little surprise for my birthday. I really enjoyed my experience here as did the rest of my group. I would definitely recommend tasting here. I have been many big box winery in Napa for many years. Recently, I was introduced to Maxville Winery through a good friend of mine. Maxville is a boutique winery on the small side at the moment, but with their 1,000 acres of land & continueing planting new grape vines. There will be many more types of wine choices in the near future we all can enjoy. Anthony is the winery's GM & his knowledge regarding different types of wines that they produced was explained to us in detail & he also spent a good amount of time with us as well. Had a tasting with my family the day after Christmas. We ended up running late because didn't realize the winery was tucked in the mountains behind St. Helena. When we arrived, the first thing we noticed was how gorgeous the property was. The second thing we noticed was Dave. Dave appeared to be one of the only people working that day and he exceeded our expectations with his wonderful service. The wines were superb, and the food the provided with our tasting was excellent, particularly the tiramisu we got with dessert. I had the pleasure of visiting the most amazing winery today. 10+ years of annual trips (clearly we enjoy visiting Napa!) are full of memories, great wine and beautiful scenery, so it takes a lot to stand out. We received a recommendation to visit Maxville Winery and decided to check out something new. Note: this is not on the main wine trail and took around 15 minutes winding through mountains and around secluded lakes. We turned off the road into a rugged parking lot with a few buildings that blended into the scenery and fog. An empty lot at 10 AM in the middle of nowhere. What can I expect? As we entered the main building, we were greeted by amazing art, stunning architecture, and a sommelier, Dave Reid, who took his time with us during a private tasting (yes, we made reservations in advance). Dave took us through the property explaining the history of Maxville along with the founder's vision. Following our tour, we enjoyed some of the best wines we have experienced throughout our many trips. Throughout the tasting, Dave provided insights showing his vast knowledge of wine in a non-obtrusive manner. Our tasting occurred while looking out on their private lake and the rolling hills making up a small part of their vineyard. This is truly a hidden gem and we will most definitely be back! read more

My friends are members at Maxville Vineyards, and I tagged along with them for their art show event this weekend. The venue was exquisite with amazing arts filling the walls. The staff at Maxville was nice and very knowledge of Maxville wines and their hospitality made the afternoon fun and fascinating. The winery is visually stunning; a beautiful lake is the theme here with the mountains in the background to add to the beautiful setting. It's worth the trip just to see this place! Maxville Winery was an incredible place to spend time with my friends. We made a reservation for four and we were amazed that not more people have been here! Maxville is a newer winery, but it is in a breathtaking location next to a lake and away from the crowds. I personally loved that the winery had both indoor and outdoor seating and how the interior of the property was so spacious and luxurious. We got a tour of the winery and saw how they made the wine. I think one of my favorite parts was going into the "cave" and using the "wine thief" to sample the wine from the barrels. My personal favorite wines that we tried here were the chardonnay and the cab. The host and owner were so personable, and ensured that we had an incredible time there. I was a little nervous about going to a winery during pandemic times, but I felt very safe and happy at the Maxville Winery. For me, a wine tasting outing is more than hopping place to place in the Valley, with the roar of Highway 29 in the background while a somewhat interested host regurgitates a prepared speech and pours mediocre wines. I love Maxville Winery; it is none of these things. From the moment you arrive, all senses tell you this is a very special place. There is an intentional calm to the property that will not escape you. The Oaks are majestic, the view over the lake surreal, and the art and architecture interesting, impressive and sophisticated. And then comes the best part. The wines are exceptional and generously shared. The service is attentive, deeply knowledgeable and professional. Your expert host will not deliver a "canned" message or hover over you. Instead, you are guided through a tour and/or tasting while you learn about what makes Maxville wines so special and all your questions will be answered. You will experience the wines in a relaxed and calming environment and most likely you will do what I did ..... quickly realize that many of these bottles need to come home with you. This is a young winery with a great start. The recently remodeled main building is huge and beautiful, and reminded us of the great estates of Mendoza, Argentina. We were greeted by Ryan and his colleague with a glass of fantastic sauvignon blanc, and then we meandered through the building outside to a comfortable sofa overlooking a large private lake and rolling hills. The rest of the wines we tasted were all red varietals, and each was delicious in its own right. Ryan and we had a continuing engaging conversation throughout our tasting. It certainly added to the pleasant experience. While this place is certainly out of the way, we wouldn't let that deter anyone that has a designated driver from taking you there. read more

As we arrived, Ryan poured us a welcome glass of wine to sip as he gave me and my boyfriend a personalized tour of the HUGE property. The cave was the coolest part! After the tour, he sat us in the cutest couch/ table with the best view on the property, overlooking their lake. He continued to make our experience exceptional by giving us a great sized charcuterie board and taking his time with our wine tasting as we chatted for hours. Maxville is well worth the drive up Pope Valley Road. Removed from the craziness of Hwy 29, Maxville is a lovely, serene setting overlooking a lake. There's plenty of outdoor space to enjoy your tasting or if you prefer AC during the summer, the interior is gorgeous and the architecture stunning. Wines are fantastic and although I gravitate towards red wine, I truly enjoyed their Sauvignon Blanc on a warm day, which was aged in oak, stainless steel and concrete. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. It's a great place to enjoy wine and not feel rushed, like so many other places in Napa. read more
