So I called and someone actually answered the phone and made my appointment for me, THANK you! We arrived 15 mins early, so we hung out in the lobby reading all the history, etc. Then Skip took us to the best view overlooking the vineyard for our tasting; see pictures! We sampled almost ALL the reds! All of which were good. See pictures. I like the fact that we did side by side tastings of many of his wines. My favorites were the 2022 Primitivo and 2021 Malbec, which we bought a few bottles of. Ambiance - Secluded private winery. Close to main Downtown Napa, but far enough away for privacy and a feeling of being far away. Appointment only, so very private and customer focused. Typically no more than 3 parties at a time. Today was considered a very busy day as there were 4 parties including us, lol. Gated private estate. 200 acres. Plenty of parking, especially since hosting only 3 guests at a time. Events - See their website. Well behaved dogs are allowed outdoors. Service - Skip is a history buff and we both talked for hours... After leaving, well really the next day (LOL), I realized that our tasting was supposed to be only 60 minutes. I guess because we got along so well, we stayed until closing! And he gave me a glass with a generous splash and let us walk the property alone after they left! So welcoming and trusting. My husband and I visited Hendry Ranch Winery with our pup earlier this week. Our host was amazing, and I wasn't expecting the quality of the wine tasting, but our host was amazing. She really taught us a lot of things about wine that I had no idea about. Our conversations felt so natural, and it was like hanging out with a friend while we did our wine tasting. It was such a nice and intimate wine tasting experience that I was not expecting. I can't remember our host's name but if you are reading this - thank you for such a great experience. Our pup was a bit fearful, so there were many barks but our host was so kind and understanding. She even gave my dog some (maybe a lot!) of doggy treats to try to get her to trust her. Lol! The outdoor and indoor tasting rooms were both clean and well put together. It was so cute! I highly suggest this winery. Also, calling to book a reservation was so easy and quick. I visited Hendry on a recent trip to Napa valley and I can't say enough good things about it. Wines are superb and staff is welcoming. Our tasting was led by Skip and it was nothing short of great. He was very knowledgeable in both the history of the vineyard and family as well as a good conversationalist. It felt like I was sitting down with someone I knew to talk about wines. The vibe to the location is definitely more laid back, small family run. It was nice to be away from the hustle and hustle of the larger vineyards in the area. We visited Napa back in September and I am just now getting around to reviewing all of the wineries we visited! We had a wine tasting at Mayacamas right before this, and while it was essentially right up the road, we were worried about being late for the last available tasting at Hendry that day. They very kindly offered a later tasting to accommodate us so we wouldn't feel rushed. It was very peaceful since we were the only ones having a tasting and paired with the sunny weather it was just the perfect weather for a patio tasting. Our host was Tamara and she was so sweet. She had a little sign up for our anniversary when we got there We did the Hendry Classic Tasting and enjoyed all of the wines! We purchased a bottle of Zinfandel (which we actually just drank this weekend), a bottle of Pinot Noir, and a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. They shipped all 3 home for us so we wouldn't have to worry about it or try to drink them before we left. Tamara also told us about the history of the property, which was really sad, but inspiring. The real deal This place is the whole package. When you walk on, you can take in the beautiful yet intimate farm background. We did their signature wine tasting which included 7 of their wines. They also gave us a complimentary tasting of their Rose and Albarino. Our host was super engaging and knowledgeable, giving us a complete rundown on the Hendry family and ranch. We learned so much! Apparently, they are most famous for their Zinfandel and Albarino. The wine tasting is intimate which just us and the host. Best part: the price of the wine tasting is waived if you purchase the equivalent amount of wine. The owner is a big fan of keeping prices low so we were able to take home 6 bottles of our favs for just a little extra. Absolutely recommend stopping by Hendry next time you visit Napa. Hendry is the complete opposite of many of the other Napa spots that are highly commercialized and mass produced. Hendry only has a handful of tables on the property, so the experience is intimate by default. They have a few rooms indoors for larger parties and then some great, quiet outdoor seating for smaller parties. We came on a Saturday with a reservation but showed up about 30 minutes early, and they were able to accommodate us easily. We sat on a serene padded bench with a table set up on the side of the property, and we were the only ones there, so it was super quiet and peaceful. Everyone at Hendry was very welcoming and friendly. Our server took a little bit to get to us because he was wrapping up with a larger party, which our host explained to us, and she poured us a complimentary pour while we waited. Once our host was ready, we had an extremely personalized and hands-on tasting for the next 2 hours. We received way more than the 7 pours listed on the tasting menu (I honestly lost count because we were given so many extra pours), and the entire experience was so personalized and curated. Our host would come out and sit with us in-between pours, explain the estate, the history of Hendry, the wines, the production, and so much more. I feel like we learned more at Hendry about the growing, harvesting, and production of wine than I have at any other tasting. Hendry is not at all like other spots where your server pops by, quickly rambles through a 30-second canned pitch about the wine, and then leaves again to tend to 7 other tables. Our host would also come and share other vintages of the wine we were tasting so we could do side-by-side comparisons and explain the differences and reasons for them. The entire 2 hour+ tasting was so intentional and thoughtful, and we were the only table he was helping. At the same time, we didn't feel that he overstayed his welcome. He'd come by, chat with us, pour us wine, and then leave for a little so we could enjoy the wine and views before he stopped by again. We had such a lovely, peaceful time at Hendry. The estate is also gorgeous, and you can walk around in a self-guided tour with their maps. Will absolutely be coming back to Hendry in the future. read more

This is a long overdue review of this amazing Napa gem. There are literally hundreds of wineries in this region. While I can't claim that we've come close to visiting even half of them, we have been to a lot and Hendry is truly something special. On a recent trip to Napa, we wanted to find hidden gems. We prefer to chart our own adventures instead of leaving it to chance with a tour group and after some research, I stumbled across Hendry. Zero exaggeration, it was one of the top spots in our trip. What I love the most about it is it is so unpretentious. The land is gorgeous and it's in a bit of a different area than most wineries. It truly is a ranch though which I find very cool. Our host was so friendly and informative- explaining all the different lots around the property. They provide you with a map of the property so you can see the numerous varietals. Given the location and proximity to a river, they have a very unique set up and can grow numerous grape varietals all in this one spot. I'm far from an agricultural nerd but hearing about how they can grow both colder-style grapes next to heat loving grapes is very cool to me. The history of the ranch really is inspiring too. We were so lucky to be able to meet George Hendry himself during our visit. We had a great conversation about some of our common ties back to New Mexico, his engineering background, and even our local Gruet got a shout out and recognition as we talked about the wines in our home state. All of that just added to the experience but the stars of the show were the wines. Every. Single. One. Fantastic. Even varietals that aren't particularly my favorite were stellar. What I love and appreciate the most is the caliber of wine that you get at Hendry is top notch but the prices are refreshingly affordable so you can truly enjoy them regularly, unlike many other places in Napa that will set you back quite a bit. If whites are your jam, I have to recommend the Albarino. Wow. Every single red is a knockout- I am obsessed with their Primitivo, their Zin (one of their specialties- they have several!), and their red blend, apty named "Red." You cannot go wrong here and even though I don't want crowds to ruin this little treasure, it is so worth sharing how amazing it is. read more

When we were walking up to the winery, the host was standing outside to greet us. When we were sat down, she went over the history of the Hendry winery prior to the tasting. We selected the red wine flight, which consisted of 5 tastings for $50. The host brought out some toasted almonds so we could experience how food can affect the taste of wine. The land is quiet, the vines stretch out as far as the eye can see, and the staff is so friendly and helpful (Tamara was excellent!). I liked the Unoaked Chardonnay and the Red blend. Out of all the wineries I've been to, this is my favorite for a personal, captivating wine tasting experience on the front porch overlooking a serene winery! I came here 1-2 years ago and had to return to take my sister and her boyfriend on their first Napa outing. We got the white wine flight ($50, but tasting fee waived if you buy a wine of an equivalent amount or higher!) They also give you a clipboard, pen & wine listing to take notes on as you drink. Our tasting expert Todd was the highlight of this trip!! He sat down with us and told us the family history behind Hendry, the wine making process, and sprinkled in fun facts. It never felt like an overwhelming amount of information, but more like a nice story time. Todd was so welcoming and made us feel comfortable enough that we asked any questions that came to mind, and my sister actually said this was her favorite part of her whole weekend visiting me. I came to Hendry more than 10 years ago and their tour and tasting was one of the most educational ones I had ever been on. You can feel the love that is poured into making their wines and they are awesome. Forward to 2024 and came back taking a friend that had never been to Napa! I am so glad is still the same down to earth vibe compared to the "corporate type" wineries. The wines continue to be excellent and kudos to George Hendry! The setting is so peaceful and serene. We tasted 7 or 8 wines and my favorites of course the Albariño, Barrel Fermented Chardonnay (not oaky at all ). The Red Blend and the Petit Verdot .. so good! If you do nothing else in Napa-you MUST visit here and plan ahead and get signed up for the 3-hour wine tour/tasting/seminar hosted by 82-year old George Hendry. It's offered daily at 10 am and there are only 8 spots. Cost is $75 but it's 99% likely you will buy wine at the end of this amazing experience so if you buy $75 or more in wine it ends up being FREE. (I ended up buying a mixed case). So why is this a MUST? George has been in the "farming" biz for 80 years and is also a brilliant scientist/engineer who has a gift for demystifying the world of wines. Whether you are a novice or someone like me who has visited wineries across the globe, this is an unforgettable and informative session that will totally up your appreciation and understanding of wine, food pairings and the science of taste. George is like the patient professor that you had that finally explained something in a way that turned on the lightbulb for you in college. His discussions and taste experiences really highlight a number of important principles. So, don't wIt -give them a call and get one of these scarce spots. You will be very glad you did. read more

We were in our own private room with one of their knowledgeable staff members, Skip. He stayed with us the entire time and answered all and any questions we had. Love, love, love- support the small, family owned wineries!! Hendry Vineyard and Winery is open for tastings, but with an appointment only. We were able to make reservations the same week. Since they only allow one reservation at a time for tastings, we were the only people there for an hour and a half- talk about VIP status! When you make your reservation, you let them know which tasting you'd like to do. They're very flexible, and you can change to a different tasting before your reservation. I loved that they sent very detailed instructions with directions to the winery. You really need to keep an eye out for their white sign, since it's not very big. However, we didn't have any trouble, and got to our reservation on time (for us.. lol). We were greeted enthusiastically upon arrival, and even got to keep the Hendry Winery pen we used to sign in (it's surprisingly good quality)! We opted for the Build Your Own tasting option, which included 4 wines for $35/person. Your tasting fee is applied towards the purchase of their wines, and they were super nice about letting us taste different wines. We started off with a taste of their Rose, which was light and fruity. Their Barrel Fermented Chardonnay was a favorite, as well as their Cabernet Sauvignon. We learned so much from our "guide" at Hendry, and am super sad I did not catch her name in the beginning. Our hour and a half passed by really quickly, and it was a very engaging, fun, but still relaxing time. We loved sitting in the shaded deck area with the view of their vineyards, and even received a visit from one of the Hendry dogs, Gracie. Overall, Hendry is highly recommended if you're looking for great wines, exceptionally nice and engaging people, and away from the usual Napa hustle and bustle. We would definitely come back for another tasting in the future, and I would love to do a tour of their vineyards when that is available again. Hendry is located in the foothills of the Mayacamas mountains and adjacent to Mt Veeder. All tours and tastings are by appointment only and may be the best tasting experience in Napa We did the $30 tasting and it was well worth it. We had the pleasure of tasting with Tamara. This isn't a standard tasting where you get quick snippets of information about the wine in between pours. Tamara spoke about the wines in detail and told us the story of the history of the vineyards as well as the Hendry family; which is an amazing story filled with wonder, sadness, resilience and triumph. The wines are really good and well made. The 2017 Albarino has lovely citrus and green apple notes with a nice finish. The 2016 Unoaked Chardonnay is silky and mouthwatering. The 2014 Zinfandel Blocks 7 & 22 with aromas of cherry, leather and tobacco is quite lovely. Visiting Hendry is an experience filled with history, knowledge and some great wine. read more
