This was our first trip to Napa, and we were expecting an experience similar to what was shown in the photos on Yelp. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. The company was late picking us up, and until they arrive, the only way to contact them is through their main phone line, which made communication difficult. Overall, it felt like they had taken on too many bookings and were stretched too thin. The experience felt rushed and disorganized, and it did not meet our expectations. I was a bit in a panic because the driver I had set up several months prior cancelled on me. I called around and several companies were already booked. Paul's company was booked the Saturday, but available on Sunday. He went above and beyond and began to reach out to other companies for me and secured someone for me for Saturday. I didn't have to work with two different companies, all communications remained through him and pricing remained the same. What can you say about a person who puts up with you and your group's stupid for an entire day, keeps his sense of humor, and makes you feel as if you're the best group he's every had the pleasure to serve? Communication in the beginning was a little spotty but once we got a rhythm he put together a custom tour giving us exactly what we had asked for. I cannot tell you how fortunate my fiancé and I were to stumble on Paul Bailey and his Napa Valley Wine Excursions. We spent three days with Paul giving us a tour of the region and of the wineries we had scheduled for tastings. Paul surprised us with a couple of "hidden gem" wineries and gave us awesome suggestions on where to eat and socialize. Born and raised in Napa, he can provide you with a local's perspective on the region as well as the wine and the vineyards. Our trip was a group of 8 women in Sonoma. Paul properly interviewed us on our likes and dislikes and built a fabulous itinerary based upon that. We hit 4 scheduled trips and he managed to accommodate a drive-by request to Richiolo as well. We planned our lunch pick up at a local market and also a fabulous setting at Robert Young to eat it at. Paul's fees are reasonable and his transportation is clean and new. It accommodated our group just fine and he was very attentive to the doors and moving seats when we needed it. He is very laid back and you will enjoy your "car chat" with him. My wife and I recently went to Napa for our one year anniversary and this was by far the highlight of our trip! Paul and team put together the perfect day for us. I'd give him 6 stars if I could. We started with champagne and a beautiful view in the morning at Domanie Carneros. Was the perfect way to start the day. We were then whisked off to Keever and O'Brien. Both were incredible. We bought a bunch of wine from O'Brien and got an exclusive back room barrel tasting and poetry reading which was certainly unique. Our group chose option two for our Labor Day excursion in napa and did we choose the right driver. Paul did an excellent job making sure our small group's first visit to the Valley was a memorable one. He's born and raised in Napa and was able to use his significant network to get us into places we didn't know existed and never would've seen otherwise, and the experience was phenomenal as a result. We visited with top winemakers in their homes, toured their properties, barrel-tasted wines at various stages of production and drank some fabulous juice. All of our stops were pre-arranged by Paul and private, and some of them lasted over two hours. Paul himself was friendly, outgoing and patient with us as we meandered through the day. He grabbed our cameras and got some great shots of the group as we tasted and walked the vineyards. He was engaging, funny and quite helpful. A great example of the service Paul gave us was how he helped us resolve an issue with a purchase we made at one of our stops. At 9pm on the day after our tour with Paul, as we were packing our wines for shipment back home, we noticed one of the wineries had mistakenly given us bottles of Zinfandel rather than the Pinot Noir we'd requested. We were leaving early the following morning and called Paul for his help. He immediately got on the phone with the owner and arranged for her to meet us early the next morning to swap the bottles out on our way back to the airport. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Paul and won't hesitate to book him again for our next trip, which can't come soon enough :-). Highly recommended. read more

We planned a girls' trip to Napa, and after deciding it was clearly not in anyone's best interest to be driving to wineries, began to look into our tour options. A friend had recommended Napa Valley Wine Excursions, and after researching some other companies, we learned that they were also quite comparable in price. On the first morning of our trip, our host (Paul M) called in advance of his arrival asking if we needed anything. He arrived on time and had a trunk full of snacks and beverages to ensure we made it through our two-day, nine-winery tour in one piece. A native of Napa and seasoned winery tour guide, Paul answered our questions about the area, the wineries, the wine, and even some of the characters we met along the way. He couldn't have been a more gracious host: he had awesome lunch recommendations, made sure we didn't leave our belongings behind, held doors for us, pretended not to mind listening to the same song request on repeat as we drove, and even arrived with some amazing cupcakes from Kara's for the birthday girl in our group. He went above and beyond what a typical "driving/tour service" provides, and we had made a new friend by the end of our two days together. The recommended wineries were also great for our group. We were a mix of a seasoned Napa visitor, one-timers, and a virgin. We went to only one "big name" winery, a few that we had requested or knew of, and then some small boutique wineries that we all really enjoyed. Our experiences were much more intimate than standing at a tasting bar with 20 of our closest friends; we sat with several owners, in their backyards and dining rooms, and heard firsthand about their history, vineyards and wine. This was my first trip to Napa and each and every part of the experience was memorable thanks to Paul. Having never been to Napa (or wine tasting before) I had no idea how to set things up, how to describe what I wanted from my trip, or how to plan my day. From our very first contact Paul took the reins and helped map out a day I will never forget. Our first contact was over email and I was hoping to give a wine tasting tour as a gift. I asked Paul if he had a "gift card" I could give my boyfriend for his birthday. Paul immediately created a beautiful page I could give as a gift...it described his services in detail and was the perfect way to tell my boyfriend we were going wine tasting! Over the next few weeks Paul took the time to call me and ask me very specific and wonderful questions about what I was looking for in our trip; I could tell he was truly interested in making this a special day for us and his genuine demeanor was refreshing (and made me even more excited for our trip!) When the day finally arrived, Paul arrived right on time and the car was fabulous. It was comfortable, clean, and easily fit the 7 in our group. Paul could tell we were a young crowd looking for a fun time and he immediately turned on some great tunes and helped us get pumped for our day! Each and every winery we visited was amazing...and much of that was thanks to Paul. He had all of our reservations made, called in advance to make sure all was set, and even secured for us a hard to get appointment at a winery that also made Balsamic Vinegar. It was unbelievably special and delicious. After our first two wineries Paul suggested we pick up lunch and go for a scenic picnic. Paul had menus ready in the car so we could decided what we would like for lunch. From there he called in our orders while we were tasting...so when we got to the restaurant, everything was ready to go! Paul drove us to the most beautiful picnic spot overlooking all of Napa - something we never would have thought of or known about without him! As our day progressed, Paul continued to impress me. He helped us store and move all the wine we bought, he gave recommendations for dinner and hotels, and (being a native) he was able to share interesting and insightful stories about Napa in general. Lastly, Paul took such great photographs of our entire day. He really caught some fun and memorable moments we never would have captured without his help. I know my friends and I will always cherish the pictures of our day! I was planning a girls' weekend for my best friend's birthday and Napa Valley Wine Excursions provided an amazing experience from beginning to end! I received an immediate response to my inquiry from Paul and he was very personable and accommodating. He took the time listen and get a picture of what I was looking for and not only were their rates reasonable, but Paul offered the most cost effective options for our group of 7. Other companies told me they'd be unable to plan a day of tastings due to our late afternoon arrival into town, Paul reassured me they could make it happen - and boy did they deliver. My friends and I landed in SF and were greeted right on time by Ryan who was our tour guide and driver for the day. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and although we were running behind schedule due to unexpected traffic, Ryan made some calls and all of the wineries were still able to accommodate us. He had ordered our lunch ahead of time and we picked it up on the way to the first tasting. We had all been to Napa before and gone to the big, commercial wineries which are sometimes crowded and touristy. But Paul had put together an itinerary that included more off the beaten path options. Each winery was different and charming with a very intimate and unique experience. The wine was delicious (we brought a ton back!) and the people at each winery were very welcoming, knowledgable and down to earth (you could tell they all love what they do). It was so fun to see a different side of napa and to not have to worry about planning or driving so we could be in the moment and just enjoy our time together. My family and I were visiting Napa for the first time together and it was for quite the celebration. He arrived exactly on time with water ( and a coke for the birthday girl). His van is very clean, comfortable, and accommodated us perfectly. There were 6 of us "Napa Virgins" on this trip so we have no comparison to other drivers. Having said that, we do know Paul did a great job in setting up the itinerary and meeting our needs. We reached out to Paul about 6 months before the trip and through e-mails and phone calls, he made sure he understood what we were looking for on this trip and he did not disappoint. He found us a variety of wineries, each with its own unique personalities which gave us a good overview of the area we were staying. He took care of every details and allowed us to enjoy each day with no worries. For anyone who is on the fence about hiring a driver vs. driving yourself around, we would say it's worth the money. It may seem expensive but it's well worth it. First off, it's very hard to find some of the smaller but very interesting places on your own. Paul has gone to hundreds of wineries in the area so once he understand your goals, he can match up your goals with his selections. Secondly, it's hard to be the designated driver unless you have a very altruistic friend willing to go to Napa and not partake. Third, unless you're from the area, it's difficult to plan a trip to minimize the times spent in a car. We would highly recommend Paul and would love to use him again next time we visit Napa. read more

I found Paul by doing a google search of tours in Napa. I will never have to do a google search again! Everything from the planning to communicating before our tour to the tour itself was fabulous. I was slightly high maintenance with my sister joining late and my friend having dietary restrictions and having a decent idea of where I wanted to go and where I did not, and he took it all in stride and was incredibly accommodating. Words can't describe how amazing Paul at Napa Valley Wine Excursions was, but I will do my best! He was absolutely a true professional! He was on time, attentive, engaging and charismatic. I was hosting a bachelorette party of 8 girls. We were completely loud and obnoxious the entire time (as you can imagine) and he took everything in stride. He would banter with us and went above and beyond to assure the bride and the crew had an amazing time! He totally could have checked out and just driven us around without saying a word. He really made our trip. He let us listen to our own horrible music, he stopped at different areas where he thought we could take some great photo's (oh yeas he takes his own professional photo's too!). When we were running late for wine tasting appointments he took the initiative to call and push them back without me having to say anything. We originally had a sit down lunch planned but of course we ran late with a group of 8 girls, so quick on his feet he took us to get gourmet sandwiches at famous local grocery store in the valley. Paul was above and beyond what we thought was possible for a driver. Beyond belief professional, he was also like your long lost friend you never knew you had. He was extremely thorough making sure to call and email before the trip with ideas, itineraries and any changes we might want to make complete with personal recommendations on how to make the day fully rounded out and fulfilling. He showed up right on time ready to get the day started and kept us on schedule without being pushy. Besides being an excellent driver was a great tour guide as well as someone you just naturally wanted to spend time with so it wasn't awkward like some private tours I have done. His recommendation for lunch was spot on and being a local, new a way around the lines getting us in and out before others had even ordered! His pricing was right in line with other companies but you definitely got much more than you paid for and everything was clearly laid out so no surprise costs or insurance.
