Large bar and restaurant. Somewhat loud when full of people. We were there for bingo. The food was quite good. We had an oriental chicken salad and a bowl of chicken wild rice soup. Well I'm a First And LAST Time visitor at this establishment. Ordered the California Burger, Well Done w/ no mayo. When it arrived, I looked at it and about Xhit myself. Normally I would have whipped out the camera and begin documenting. I was with a new Hot acquaintance and didn't want to make a big deal/scene over a burger that, well, resembled Trailer Trash. The 1/4 lb. was not Well Done, it was still Pink! Lettuce, tomato (had Clear skin as if had frost bite) and Red Onion was shriveled,dried and tiny. Oh and so Overripe I started to Onion Cry while gagging this hot pile down. Honestly, the so-called "Fresh Toppings" looked as if they were dug from a dumpster already past their peak ( if they ever had one) Sweet potato fries were so sad and shriveled I couldn't eat them. Last but not least, there was an annoying FAT BLACK GNAT hovering above our table the entire time! Eating/Ordering a Burger at a Restaurant is not on my list anytime soon read more

I really wanted this to be a spot we came back to. The decor was great. They have Bingo and a meat raffle. They have bands frequently. The problem was the food and they get 3 stars because mine was good. Unfortunately my husband's eggs Benedict sauce was cold. His hash browns were barely warm. We were surprised how quickly the food came out. We weren't checked on until it was time to pay and we did tell our waitress the problem so she could pass it on to the kitchen. 10 years ago had two visits in a row that were horrible (food & service), started going there over the last few years, not bad. Last week and tonight absolute horrible ! Terrible patio service (they forget about you!), tonight soup came out cold, bus boy was good enough to take back to the kitchen so they could microwave it (bowl was too hot to touch and had the same spill marks from the first trip to pour table). By now, first round of drinks are gone, I almost downed a bottle of water after (that I brought with) while we waited for the server to come out and take our food order, then I ordered another round. Food comes out, no second round. Food was cold- cold broiled walleye and Luke warm fries !! Too cold to enjoy a $21 dinner !, waited 20 mins, still no 2nd round, or server. I went into the bar to inform the bar tender we are leaving, and not paying. I told her service sucked. Soup was cold. Both main courses were cold. Still no second round! When I told the bartender what was up- all I get is a blank stare, not even an apology. Might take another 5 years before we give them another shot. read more

I'm surprised I've never given a review of Maxx's before since I've been come here multiple times over the past 15 years. Started with following a popular (now-retired) country band. Occasionally a bingo night with the work ladies and the famous tent parties. For the most part, I've always enjoyed my experiences here. The times I have not is due to large crowds (because of those popular bands or tent parties) where you can't easily walk from one end to the other for the bathroom, a drink, to the dancefloor. Just too crowded that you bump somebody and get a drink spilled on you. Some people might like that atmosphere but not me. Bingo nights are better. And I've learned to come early to get a good seat. Always be kind to your wait staff. They're busy and try their best. Now on to today's visit. It's COVID 19 time and I'm still uncomfortable dining inside or on patios. I'd rather continue supporting local and just do pickup. They aren't doing delivery or curbside. Must go inside to pickup and pay...masks required to enter. From time of calling in order to picking up was 20 mins. Food was warm (not hot) by the time I got home ( ~8 min drive) but that's to be expected. I ordered the Cowboy Burger (tomato,lettuce,onion,pickle), Cajun Fries with Seasoned Sour cream. Forgot to include the bourbon bbq sauce but it was still tasty. Cajun fries were spicy enough. SSC was eh. Almost tasted too sweet. It looked too uniform in red color. SSC should be speckled. Sis got the (crispy) Buffalo Chicken Wrap with Ranch, Waffle Fries and SSC. She loves to order BCWs. Wrap was the right amount of spicy for her, which for others might be too mild. By the time we got around to eating it, chicken was soggy, no longer crispy. She's had better wraps but was still happy she ordered it. So many good things on the menu: salads, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, pasta, pizza... it was hard to choose. I've been here several times. I had lunch with friends here Saturday Aug 2nd 2024. Hadn't been here since sometime last year. Pulled open the front door and the stench hit.. Yuck #1 The waitress was amazing very attentive .. Good job young lady .. Then my drink came long Island tea. No flavor horrible drink and didn't have another. YUCK#2 Then came the food YUCK #3 I always have walleye and onion rings fish fell apart the grease was so flipping dirty it was absolutely nasty. I visit Maxx Bar on a fairly regular basis. The wait staff and bartenders are phenomenal. I LOVE their pizza and broasted chicken, among plenty of other food. They're friendly and they make sure you've got your food and drinks as you've ordered. It's definitely a small town feel and friendly patrons. read more

Went there today for Easter Brunch and it was pretty terrible. Long line to the food (we timed the wait at just over 20 mins), crowded restaurant (we were sat with another family), and the worst server I'd had in a long time. The fee for using a credit card is ridiculous now a days, and while I normally am in favor of an automatic 18% gratuity, in this case our server didn't deserve 10%. She forgot drinks, didn't come check on us once, and acted like we were a nuisance. The only reason I'm giving two stars is the food was INCREDIBLE. Super bummed about the rest. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants to order from food wise, I've never had an issue until now. Last night I ordered the Shrimp Cajun Pasta and they didn't tell me they were out of shrimp until i had already paid and showed up to pick my order. They didn't bother to call me back and ask if i wanted chicken instead, they just did it anyways. Kind of disappointing and i feel like i should've been given a discount because shrimp is more expensive than chicken and i didn't even want chicken. read more

Idk. I loved this place but the service has become so poor. I can't tell if they actually discontinued their fried pickles. Your basic fried pickles.. the slices.. fried.. since I work up the strip mall and I'm typically here 9-12 hours a day.. if I'm craving something I'd kill to have it. I went on their menu tonight, scrolled through n decided just to settle on my usual.. I call.. I order FRIED PICKLES with no issue. I get back to work with my food to realize they gave me pickle rolls. When I called back Victoria said "she doesn't think they have fried pickles.. she asked around, I heard no response to her and then she proceeded to tell me she me again she doesn't think that's a thing.. I asked for a manager and she said no one was on duty then proceeded to ask if she could do anything else.. I told her just recently I had the fried pickles there n she responded with the menu changed months ago.. like how tf did I get them then and why are they still on your online? She couldn't give me an answer. So now I go hungry because these "pickle rolls" are absolutely terrible. Why she couldn't mention they don't have any when I originally ordered.. I do not know. If you're looking for a place to get some drinks and food and watch the game spend the extra 15 minutes and drive to Applebee's the foods better and you won't get skated out of a few extra bucks for nothing. Been here a couple times for brunch, foods mediocre but what you'd expect just the same heated up stuff from most bar/restaurants. And the wait service is okay. But when you leave a bunch of arcade stuff out to attract my kids to make me spend extra money, then the stuff doesn't even work and just ends up taking my $10 (big buck hunter) and I ask the staff I get told "when my manager gets back." When it's probably as busy as the place gets being a football game day. Not only are the management/ownership Poor at their chosen profession, they are thieves. Might only be $10 which I'm not gonna go and yell at the bartender or waitress over but it for sure is the last time I'll ever step foot in there. Worst place i have ever been to. Service is trash and the waitresses dont understand how to serve people.. we didnt have a beverage refill the whole time we were there. Where do I begin..... the lack of respect that my gf and I have received from maxxs after being involved an incident with drunken staff is ridiculous. My gf and I were there on Sunday night. Asked the bartenders (that were on the clock) what time they close. They said 1am..... 12am rolls around and the staff that have been on the party bus come in. As we are sitting there minding our own business. We notice Dakota and another guy (not sure of his name- has a bowl hair type of cut- and is skinny). passing looks our way and talking about us. At some point I look at Dakota in the face and say "what?" - as she's staring at me - rolls her eyes. Seconds later I have her and the rest of the staff that were not on the clock screaming at us that they're closed and we need to leave. The bartenders that were serving us have stepped back and are saying "I'm so sorry". The drunken staff that were not on the clock continue to scream at us - telling us to leave etc. without even giving our tab to us. They weren't the ones servicing us. No - last call warning.... No reasoning why we were thrown out so abruptly. Just a bunch of drunken staff off the clock screaming at us to leave. Mariah is all over social media under maxxs fb ... talking like we were refusing to leave and refusing to pay our tab. Which is a complete and utter lie. We didn't even have the tab to pay at first. I had to yell over the staff to tell someone to give me our tab so we could leave. I PAID.... And then we got up and we were followed out by the whole crew that was on that party bus -while Dakota was being held back because she was wanting to fight me. To the owners of Maxx's Bar in Ham Lake, MN. I would like you to know how rude, disrespectful and utterly disgusting your entire staff is. I will never be back and will never recommend for anyone to go there again. Last night my friend and I went to your establishment to have a few drinks and catch up. We got to there at about 10:45pm, sat at the bar and talked. It was nice and quiet, not many people there. Perfect atmosphere to have some girl chat and drinks! Midnight rolls around and a party bus drops off a group of Maxx employees. You could tell they had a good night out! As we sat there at the bar minding our own business when we were told we had to leave by the employees, who had just gotten off the party bus. We asked why? Did we do something wrong? At that point after questioning why, a group of them got in our faces, yelling at us telling us "because we said so" "It's our holiday Party" "Get Out" "We're closed". We then were followed out of the bar by the entire Maxx's group, being threatened and harassed all the way out. There were no signs posted at there of any holiday party happening and we the public couldn't be there or that the bar was unavailable to the public at a certain time. If that were the case we would have gladly left when we were supposed to. I have never in my life been treated like that anywhere, especially somewhere that I am giving my business too. Worst of all by the entire staff of Maxx's Bar. Maxx's Bar Owners and Employees should be ashamed and embarrassed. You lost my business, my families business and my friends business. Visited here today during the Vikings game. They had good drink specials $2 taps, 2-4-1s and free pizza at half time. BF and I shared a nacho and a bacon cheeseburger. The nacho wasn't very good, though I find restaurant versions rarely are - never enough cheese and too many toppingless chips. I went to this fine establishment on Hunting Widows weekend for Hunks the show. There was so much estrogen flowing in the place I thought there would be a riot when the boys came out. Anyway, it took the waitress 25 minutes to finally take my order (chicken Caesar wrap) and another 20 before the food actually came out. The drinks, albeit good, were in those tiny plastic cups! I may have picked a very bad night to go there but the food was tasty and drinks were well good and strong. I am a regular at this bar. My family and I come in quite often. Tonight was honestly the worst. The bartender Jess is nothing but rude. Every time I have come in, she's short and has an extreme attitude with everyone. She barks orders at the other servers and bartenders. She complains about customers loud enough for everyone around to hear. Tonight, my son wanted to play some of the games in the pool area. I was helping him and turned my back for a split second. Next thing I hear is Jess on the top of her lungs saying "uhm whose kid is this". I immediately looked for my son and didn't realize he was trying to get back to our table and took a wrong turn and went behind the bar. I replied with mine I'm so sorry. She didn't care, as she rolled her eyes and made a god awful face. Then started talking about me and my son loud enough for everyone to hear. I have been coming to this bar since I was a child and her attitude is enough to make me never come back again. She has been the bartender for far too long and has no respect for anyone. I've been going to this venue for 5 years or so. Great place to see live music, but the downside is the poor service. Other than 2 specific servers which are very nice and sweet, the rest have ZERO personality. The dark haired bartender with the poorly done tattoos is quite snotty and rude. We even caught her badmouthing customers out on the patio in front of other customers while she apparently was on one of her many smoke breaks. We avoid even having to deal with her. In fact, there were several servers out there at the same time which makes me wonder why the service is so slow... If they are slightly busy, you may as well find your own menus and go hunt a server down. Multiple times in the last few years we've had to sit for 20 minutes or more before even being waited on. My review will solely be based on my drinks and the service from the bartender as I was FAR too hungover to actually consume solid food. Kyle and I had to meet up with the father unit and as he lives in St. Francis and we live in South Minneapolis we chose a place a little closer to him, but still not way the heck out in the middle of nowhere to meet. We also all agreed there had to be booze there as it had been one of those nights, and was a suffering morning. We pulled up a stool to the bar and ordered, I was the smart one and got myself a Bloody Mary made with Pappar, with a finger of Coors. I pretty much pounded the first one and greatly enjoyed the olive, pickle, and meat stick that they include in the drink. Here's where it gets kind of... bad. I ordered my second Bloody Mary and the bartender (friendly though she was) hurriedly made it and didn't include an olive, pickle, meat stick, or my finger of beer. When I asked her about it she said she would just knock off $1.50 rather than just reaching behind her and grabbing them out of the little plastic holders on the bar... I mean seriously, I could have just reached across the bar and thrown them in my cocktail myself if they wouldn't throw me out for doing that. The meat raffle was a nice touch, but this definitely isn't somewhere that I would go back too unless I somehow heard about a gourmet food they are serving, which doesn't seem very likely. read more

We did like the chicken (the banner did say it was good). The ribs were not special (not a fan of ribs anyways) but these were terrible! I am cook. I know what happened here. They buy frozen, pre-cooked ribs. Heat and eat. But these also tasted freezer burned! Yuk! Then covered with sauce. The sauce wasn't bad thou. Ate one rib and left the rest. When we ordered, I asked he waitress what she liked, she pointed at the wraps. That should have been my clue. Usually I check reviews here on Yelp, Didn't. Let me say this; it is typical bar food. Which I'm Not a fan. But my drink, was strong! So maybe this would be a great place to get a strong drink with friends? Maybe not, your choice. read more

Arrived for dinner, to find they were playing radio. Loud. Too loud. And I'm mostly deaf! The band was setting up as we left. No complaints there. Food was on the lower side of mediocre. Unless you are referring to price. THAT was top shelf! The onion rings were so greasy they were actually slimy. Fry oid needs to be changed too. Fries had a little fishiness to them. Burger bun was soggy. Best part of the meal... The pickles. And people watching. But mostly the pickles. We stopped by Maxx for breakfast on Sunday and it's your typical greasy spoon. The service was excellent, the atmosphere is nothing special. The breakfast menu consists of the usual suspects: omelets, pancakes, french toast and your basic egg dishes. I decided to order the breakfast sandwich with scrambled egg, ham, and American cheese on an English muffin. The sandwich was good, but it seemed really greasy. The portions are generous. I couldn't eat my whole sandwich and barely made a dent in the hashbrowns. I can't attest for the other items on the menu, but the people I dined with really enjoyed their omelets and breakfast scrambles. The pancakes are nothing special. read more
