We have been here about 6 times. Each time there are improvements. They need more restaurants as the dining choices are limited. Their WiFi is very slow and they should allow at least 4 connections simultaneously. Download speeds were 0.5 mB per second or slower. The sunsets were magnificent. Great pools. Very friendly staff. Fabian was exceptional on the Joy Squad. But, the hot water was barely warm and stunk in one of the rooms. Kayaks were fun. They had stand up paddle boards as well. The beach and shell collecting were magnificent as usual. The security is very good. All the pools should be heated. The jacuzzis should be 104°F We will come back.

Most stressful vacation of my life, Keeping track of my receipts has always worked out in the past, up to 90% accuracy. This hotel legitimately stole over $600 worth of charges on a 3 day trip. My receipts showed 24 transactions for a total of $8,536 pesos. When we checked out it was $17,936 pesos in charges for 3 days. The room was smaller than a motel 6, they have more workers than they know what to do with, and will charge you for extra toilet paper, to single use napkins. Pure scam, rooms are outdated, laundry is non functional, and my SUV suspension was damaged, mud & clay stuck to the undercarriage, & bent rims & damaged tires with rock damage. The bridge to the resort is damaged, the roads leading in & out were worse than when I was in Iraq during the war. 22 miles of deadly unpaved roads, I feel sorry for anyone that owns a timeshare here. Oh and they harass you to buy one also. There is nothing near by, and the resort is draining your back account as you sleep. The resort WiFi caused multiple attempts of my private emails & Microsoft to be accessed, multiple password requests.

If I could rate this place lower than a one I would... I'll start off with the word dump, dump, dump! They shut the pool down in the height of the season and have been working on it for 3 months and still not done. They let us use the pool at the Grand Mayan, but that pool is in disrepair: tiles falling off and black algae is growing on the sides of the pool. We saw multiple people get their feet cut from the missing tiles and at one time a person had to be wheeled away in a wheelchair because their foot was cut so badly. We decided to go on the 90 min sales tour which turned out to be 2.5 hours. When the tour was over and they said we could leave they shipped us to the second sale person that was the hard sales person. He was rude and yelled at us. His name is Carmelo. We also told them about people getting their feet cut and their response was, "Oh well." Also our tour guide told us that this location was there ugly duckling and that lower class people vacation here from Phoenix, Tucson, other cities within driving distance. She also stated resorts where people have to fly, because it's not within driving distance, have a better class of people. She implied lower class stay here because they can't afford airline tickets to go somewhere nicer. The lazy river did not have enough tubes. You wait in line for a long period just waiting on tubes. And you're only allowed to go around the river one time without having to get out so someone else can utilize the tube. Of course the resort will sell you a tube so you can go around in the lazy river as much as you want. We have stayed at multiple resorts in Mexico and none of them have ever been this horrible. They nickel and dime you for everything thing. When Vidanta reads reviews they say, "We are surprised to learn about the inconveniences and experiences. Our resorts are always been updated and refurbished." The main road is full of potholes and the resort is about 40 minutes from town. The best thing about this place is the food. Even though the food is good there are limited places to eat. Do not stay here!! Edit: when we were leaving on July 4, 2021 they had filled the potholes. Pictures attached

Expectations Key to Great Experience We are just finishing a beautiful week at Mayan Palace Puerto Peñasco Mexico. We flew to Phoenix and rented a car and drove the 4 or so hours to Puerto Peñasco Rocky Point. The drive across the border and down to the town was great with no issues. Once we made the turn towards the Mayan Palace we experienced some water over the road due to very heavy rainfall the area experienced. We made it thru and once we hit the dirt raid quite a bit of mud but no issues overall except a little excitement. I called the week before to confirm our reservation as it was an extra vacation through Interval and they had it on file and I requested an ocean view room which I doubted we would get. When we arrived check in was great and after the desk was Iris the hostess to get our keys and the offer of using the Grand Mayan facilities, breakfast, dinner at the golf course, 10% off our bill & $ 49 for $ 100 spa treatment , if we would do the timeshare presentation. We told her we would think about it & touch base with her the next day. When she called the next day we told her no and that was it. No pressure, no constant calling or anything all week. We did get an ocean view 2 bedroom suite and it was super close to the pool and lobby. The location was fantastic. Our room was clean and we had a sweet maid that cleaned our room every day and returned in the evening for turn down service. She made animals and more out of the towels and was fantastic. We have previously stayed at a Mayan Palace and have very realistic expectations which I think helped us have a fantasticweek. We also have timeshares in Cabo and in the US. If your looking for an all inclusive ritz type place then keep looking. If your looking for a great place to enjoy the Mexican climate, culture and more in a very secluded spot this is perfect. We had an issue with our Air conditioning which was quickly fixed and the chain to flush the toilet came loose and the maint guy fixed it in five min. We went to Puerto Peñasco every other day or so and found Sams Club and the walmart bodega next door and bought groceries. Traveling to Mexico with the exchange rate makes food and eating out vrey cheap by American standards. We have eaten twice at Tacos Brisas and twice at Pollo Lucas. All four meals out were less than twenty dollars each. Ice cream at thrifty was fun too. We have used the pool waiters for drinks and the were great and ordered room service for two dinners. We had fajitas for four one night and split two half pound hamburgers with an extra order of fries one night. The main pool is cold but the indoor pool is great and the beach is fantastic. It is level and easy to walk on with all sorts of shells. Our only complaint is that the beach chairs are pretty uncomfortable. The ones next door at the Grand are much nicer. The lazy river there was empty. We must be in lower season as there aren't many people here. There are some bugs but we've done well to avoid them. Driving into Puerto Peñasco is a good 25 min but it's a fun town with friendly people that is used to dealing with Americans and Canadians. The Malecon area is fun for souvenirs and the haggling process and lots of seafood places. We ate lunch at Mary's and had a fantastic view and fish tacos that were very good. Overall we have had a great week and other than a little water on the road and the normal noise from upstairs neighbors we will come back here again. The sunsets have been amazing and weather much warmer than rainy cold US.

No stars for horrible service! We booked through Fresh Trips/Tripadvisor and were treated poorly by management and the front desk once we arrived to the hotel. We were promised access to 2 resorts, king size bed, jacuzzi and so much more but were assigned in a subpar room and denied access to everything. Fresh Trips did nothing to rectify the issue so we tried to resolve everything directly through the hotel but they weren't any help either. With no access to the amenities, this became the worst vacation experience ever. We couldn't wait to leave. My mother booked a room through her timeshare and it was infested with roaches. Their solution was to fumigate while she was still in there rather than to move her to another room. There are much better resorts in PP. Save yourself the headache and go elsewhere.

It's basically a worse version of the same property next door (the grand Mayan) in an effort to up sell a new timeshare agreement to get into the grand Mayan. The activities are mostly fun (blackjack, bingo, beach soccer, cocktail tasting) and the beach is nice and sandy. The larger activities cost money, such as renting a paddle board or taking the boat out to bird island. They advertise quad riding but don't have them anymore. They will be weed whacking outside your window at 7:30 am and the towels are coarse like gym towels.

It's far from being a palace but with construction in the works, it may become just that. Our stay here was fine and peaceful but after a couple of days I was pretty bored with the resort. It's isolated from the "strip" of resorts in Peñasco and about a 30 minute drive into town. So yeah, there's only so much pool and beach a girl can handle. If I kept sunbathing, I was gonna look like beef jerky by the end of the trip. The best part was the warm, clear waters of the Sea of Cortez and the sea shells that filled the warm, white sandy beach. It was so beautiful. The restaurant on site was good and the bars were legit with happy hours offering 2 for 1 drinks. The room was fine but our comforters and chairs were like those of a cheap motel. We had a bit of a balcony to enjoy the breeze. Although, the construction ruined the view a bit, by the looks of it, that lazy river is gonna be a huge reason for us to return.,

Great peaceful place to stay very secluded from everything. Great environment everyone very polite at all times. Everything very neat and clean. The pools were amazing they even have an indoor pool that has heated water. The only thing that it needs it's better beds they were to hard lol until next time

First time here. The location is beautiful. 30 minutes away from other hotels. Activities available from a 3rd party - we did UTV which was a little expensive $53 for 1 1/2 hour. Rooms were ok. The mattress for the bedroom was too hard. Breakfast buffet was decent but not cheap for Mexico. We ate in town for the most part. Keep in mind there are different parts of the main town. We went to the closest "town" near the hotel. Small enough to explore without worrying about losing someone in your group. Lots of souvenirs to buy. Just negotiate - it's the custom. Also hotel is on private land so there's security. You can bring food on the property but must keep it inside room. Not bad for restful vacation.
The resort itself is beautiful and the ocean views are amazing. The private sandy beach was a 3-minute walk from our ocean-view room. The hostess, front desk staff, and valet were professional and friendly. In fact, our teenage boys commented on how pleasant the check-in experience was. We stayed in a two-bedroom unit. Although we would have preferred a full kitchen, the kitchenette was functional. The beach was filled with a large variety of shells and we enjoyed walking along the beach looking at shells and the amazing views. The beach was not at all crowded and provided a tranquil escape from out busy lives. With such a glowing review, you might find the 3-star rating surprising. The one-star sales experience dampened what had otherwise been an exceptional experience. They indicated the presentation would be 90 minutes. It wasn't. They indicated it would be low pressure. It wasn't. We arrived at 9:00 a.m. and finally walked out at noon with them begging us for the third time for "just 5 more minutes." We like to do business with people we can trust. We won't be doing future business with Vidanta. read more

Mayan Palace THE GREAT - The Service is above and beyond - ANTONIO at the Balche restaurant is the man to know. EGAR @ the Joy Club keeps entertaining you. ADRIAN @ the Lobby bar is on fire for drinks. THE GOOD - The room is kept clean by maid service and are fairly comfortable. The Food is well presented and satisfying tastes with service without compare. THE BAD - Meals are QUITE expensive and on a couple occasions the hours of operation that were posted weren't operational. ***The only heated spa was at the far south of the resort and every other spa and all the swimming pools were not heated and approximately @74-76 degrees. Far too cold to be comfortable. We were there for 5 days and the only people that got was my wife and a couple of smaller children. THE FLY INFESTATION was unbelievable and unbearable, we saw no attempt to solve the situation, spraying at night or using a fogger while people are asleep would have done something to defuse the situation. Either that or issue fly swatters and require 50 fly carcasses in exchange for a cocktail THE UNBEARABLE - After paying a USE FEE of $830 up front when making our reservation, upon arrival my wife and I were approached before checking in by a SALESMAN... "We like to schedule you for a review of your MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS " ! The following day, this turned into a HARDCORE UPGRADE SALES PITCH. Then almost immediately got to the point after saying NO a dozen times... we aren't interested in spending more money for a place that isn't providing a decent quality of operational facilities were I was ready to leave and just go home ! I asked for business cards from three different people who were involved in the process and never was given one of them, I also asked for a COPY of the benefits associated with our membership and never received that either. I was told I had to contact CORPORATE, even though it was sitting on the table in front of me. UNFINISHED AND UNDER CONSTRUCTION - The center section of the larger building was a concrete frame that isn't be used or even being worked on. It's pretty much a hollow structure that's just an eyesore. We were told that the vast majority of the money be pumped into Vidanta is being funneled to Nuevo Viarta for the water theme park and Cirque de Sola and the finished date for the Puerto Peñasco Mayan and Grand Mayan isn't even in discussion. IN SUMMATION - Our next visit to Puerto Peñasco WON'T include Vidanta, we can rent a VRBO right on the beach with no hassle for the equivalent cost. read more

Oh my. I wish I could give zero stars for the management company, Vidanta. Do not, I repeat, do not go here. I wouldn't go back if they paid me. We purchased a stay and play at a charity auction for $1500 for 4 days. First, you can't really find much information on this place. We knew it wasn't in the hotel zone but we didn't know how far it was. It is 45 minutes from anything. There is nothing to do here. There is no options for jet skiing, horseback riding, fishing or anything entertaining nearby. On top of that, the road from the main road to the resort is over 15 minutes on a very primitive road. There is a bridge that is missing a railing and it is very dangerous. It had rained and since it was a dirt road, it was a complete mud bog. If you don't have 4 wheel drive, you will probably get stuck. When we arrived, they offered a "complimentary cocktail" but we declined. As soon as we got into the room, we received a call stating we had to go to the lobby the next day to meet with the activities coordinator. (Timeshare pitch) Since we had no intention of buying a Timeshare, we declined. This hotel is in an incredible state of disrepair. There is a massive, ominous building in between Mayan Palace and Grand Mayan that looks like something from a zombie movie. Huge chunks of concrete are missing and you can see exposed rebar. When you're on the lazy river, it is all you can see and it is terrifying. You will not see this on the Vidante website. Given the size of the structure, I do not imagine it will go anywhere in the next 20 years. At breakfast, it was raining. The ceiling was leaking in at least 30 spots and it was literally raining inside. The staff put down beach towels and struggled to keep walkways dry. There were soaking towels everywhere during our $30 a piece breakfast. Inside the lobby entrance chunks of the ceiling had fallen down and the staff was struggling to keep the area clear. On one side of the building, towels were put at every door to keep the rooms from flooding from the rain. The hotel has zero proper drainage and there was standing water everywhere. The beach is a complete mess. They do not groom it at all like most resorts. The first day, we used the lazy river and the swim up bar. We spent a ton of money on food and drinks. (The food is really good, but really pricey for Mexico)Toward the end of the day, we did the lazy river again. When we got out, we were met by a security guard stating that we didn't have access to the swim up bar or the river. My fiancé was upset by this as we were never told that there are areas of the property that we didn't have access to. There is also no markings of any areas that are "off limits" to anyone. This was super upsetting after paying $1500 and spending so much money at the resort. He went to the front desk, where he was told that if we listened to the pitch, we'd get access to the rest of the resort and get a ocean facing room instead of our horrible view room that we had. We again declined and decided to go to a different resort for our remaining days. We packed up and moved to Las Palomas and had an amazing 3 days. What's worse is that I know when I post this, I'll receive the same auto response as all the other bad reviews. They do not care that we had a terrible experience and had to spend an additional $600 to move to an acceptable resort. It isn't the staff's fault. They did their absolute best and they were all very sweet. The management company should be ashamed. I can't imagine anyone buying into this Timeshare with the state of the property. Take your money and spend it at Las Palomas or Sonoran Sky. Drinks and food are way cheaper, there's more to do, and the beach is cleaner. read more

1. Check in WAAAYYYYY too long and we arrived on a Thursday. 2. The "resort fee" of $550 was absurd, and the "donations, other fees," were NOT agreed upon, yet somehow charged. 3. The Grand Mayan was paid for, yet we had to stay in Mayan Palace because our room and location "was not available, no reduction in price. 4. The time SCARE presentation was HIGH PRESSURE, FILLED WITH LIES, & 6 1/2 HOURS. (THAT is another HORROR STORY not worth repeating here, but suffice it to say DONT ATTEND, DO NOT BUY, DO NOT TRUST these people). Although in the Vidanta building, the sales people were "from outside sales organizations contracted" to RIP YOU OFF, AND MAKE YOU HATE RETURNING. 5. Restaurant food was MEH...expensive, unremarkable. 6. Lazy river NOT WORKING. 7. Hotel management staff rude, slow, unresponsive, uncaring. Although the workers, staff were very polite, nice, sincere, and the place looked decent, the Vidanta experience overall was horrific. I would NOT recommend this resort for above reasons, and had it not been for our having a car, driving to town DAILY, and doing most of our meal preparations, the total cost would have been truly ABSURD. We live simply, have traveled extensively, and had modest expectations. Even those MODEST expectations were trashed. With dated furniture, non existent entertainment, and over priced trinkets, it is no wonder, we were glad to flee this place when the week was up, happy to just get fleeced, but not skinned completely at the wallet level. read more

Not worth it and don't do it. This is a time share trap. It is a pretty hotel located right on the beach, but it is a 3 star hotel at most. Customer service is non existent. Cleanliness also nonexistent. It is a half an hour drive away from the ONLY form of entertainment to do in Puerto Penasco...Malecon. Basically a beach town where you can eat and shop. It takes 10 minutes to even drive out of the hotel. All restaurants at the hotel are expensive and paddle board rentals and such are crazy expensive. People say you can't use the Grand Mayan pools (which are just warm pools, jacuzzis are not even hot) but we did. Just complain at front desk about pool amenities and they will make you fill out a form and they will put wristbands on you. Takes time but you have to get at least something out of this horribleness. Get the free breakfast they offer you and then don't go to the "presentation". Just walk away. Say you have a stomach ache and postpone it. It's not worth it. Won't be coming back. Won't be coming back to Puerto Penasco either--it's a one-and-done place--in my opinion, not even worth it for the people/ customer service quality. read more

Very beautiful hotel, however expect a huge level of harassment from the army of time share selling people there. Took forever to get our room and the valet were not very service oriented. However the guy who took our bags to our room was nice. Also, you might feel worse than at times when the pseudo life guards approach to ask your room number???? We had good experience at the restaurant for the breakfast buffet, host and waiters were nice. I was hoping to enjoy out time there with first class level of service, but in essence seems as if you as the customer are an inconvenience to some. Next time I will book on a hotel near the town which is 30 mins away. read more

We spent a week here. I read the other reviews and I get it! HOWEVER, our experience was different in several ways: 1. Reasonable expectations of a resort that has a membership. We knew we would get "upgrades" if we did the presentation. One member of our group "took one for the team," and that allowed us the upgrades. 2. The food was very good. It is not cheap. If you stay on the property be prepared to pay $15 to $30 a meal (breakfast/dinner without coupons or discounts.) 3. We found the staff amazing. Each and every one. 4. We knew that Rocky Point was 45 minutes away because we DID RESEARCH before we came. So the drive was fun and expected. We went into town a couple of times to shop and eat and go to the grocery store. 5. We had a great room with two bedrooms, with an ocean view, right adjacent to the pools. 6. We knew the pools would not be heated because they rarely are in Mexico in our experience. There is usually one on a property. The heated pool at the Grand Mayan was an upgrade to do the presentation - the lazy river was lots of fun. 7. It was a relaxing and wonderful experience. The staff tries so hard and it is so endearing! 8. My only disappointment was that the pools are only 3 1/2 feet deep. No swimming really, just playing around. Have reasonable expectations and you will enjoy a calm and beautiful trip. We drove from Tucson. It is about 3 1/2 hours of uneventful driving. We probably will not go again as it is a hike from Seattle. But that is too bad as it was a great experience. read more

Of course like most places there is the good and the not so good! Pools and lazy river! AWESOME! Beautiful and pretty well kept! It would be great if they could replace the missing tiles on the swim up bar stools as they are a little tough on the bum... a couple shots of tequila and that worry goes away! LOL Rooms - not so good. The entire first day was a bust just trying to get settled. Our first room was quite a bit away from everything, a bit of a hike. Inconvenient but not the real issue. The room was sitting on the other side of the ongoing construction. Construction is expected in any growing resort and we understand that, but couldn't handle the constant pounding with two adults that have migraines. I went to the front desk and Marco was very kind to move us to another Master Suite in a better location, unfortunately the room was already occupied. Back to Marco at the front desk... he tried to accommodate with separate rooms on different floors but the idea of a family vacation is FAMILY, we wanted to spend it together. He did finally find an older (original part of the property I think) 2 bedroom closer, in a better location, it would have been fine if it didn't smell of sewage the entire trip. We were tired of moving around and feeling like complainers, and the smell faded shortly once you got used to it so we stayed there. The power went out in one of the bedrooms the first evening but they took care of it promptly since they knew they had breaker issues in the rooms. Marco did grant us access to the Grand Mayan Pools as a gesture to make it up to us. Thanks for everything Marco! If we hadn't gone in expecting similar accommodations to the Vidanta property in Rivera Maya, we may not have noticed the sloppy maintenance and rooms, I think our expectations were a little too high comparing it to that property. I can't speak for Grand Mayan since they were full, but I wouldn't choose Mayan Palace again. We purchased two weekends so might be stuck with one more trip Food: not enough choices when they are so far away from town. Bartenders are awesome and polite. Francisco, thank you for putting up with our crazy family two days in a row at the swim bar! :) Buffet- awful and expensive, tried it twice for dinner. I don't recommend that at all! Snack Bars - 1 was fairly good but the hot food was all served cold (my own pet peeve, sorry). The creamy poblano dip and freshly fried chips were great and on the house because of the long wait for the food! The Ola Mulata was great! Reservation recommended for Friday or Saturday night as it's really the only good food on property. It was our anniversary dinner and the food, service, and view were wonderful! Location: WAY too far out of Rocky Point, no access to food or any of the fun Rocky Point has to offer without a 30-40 minute drive each way. One day this might be a beautiful property as they continue to grow, they just are not there yet. read more

Although, the construction ruined the view a bit, by the looks of it, that lazy river is gonna be a huge reason for us to return., read more

Not bad for restful vacation. read more

We visited this resort about 8 years ago and it has changed very little. Rooms are tired and they need a refresh. Staff everywhere as applying paint to everything.WIFI is a joke. They still have not found a way to pave the immediate area around the resort. Seemingly in a state of "work in progress". Big push by staff to sell you their time share - nothing there but a hotel. Takes you 20+ minutes to get to town. No immediate amenities for a family either. Property owners /developers should travel to real seaside resorts to get a true understanding of what is needed to make the Mayan Palace a destination resort. Golf is great, but very few who go to the Mayan Palace play golf. Beach and views are not bad. No beach activities. Hard to imagine how their rack room rate is $500 a night - for three nights maybe. Vidanta has a whole lot of work to do to make this place into anything that you would consider top shelf. They might might want to clean up the 20 mile road that leads to the property as well - gives you the impression you are driving through an abandoned part of the world with run down, partially complete and abandoned buildings and TRASH dumped everywhere. Place has a lot of potential - very little of it realized so far. Nicer places to stay in Puerto Penasco that allow you to enjoy the full experience. read more
Not sure why this place doesn't have better reviews. I have stayed at plenty of resorts, some better some worse and this place met my expectations based on the amount of money I paid to stay here. I thought the staff was very friendly, the landscaping was beautiful, the entertainment in the lobby in the evenings was great, and I thought the breakfast buffet was awesome. We really enjoyed our stay here and are already looking at booking our next trip. I will note, some parts of the room seemed a little dated and the pool tiles could use some refreshing but no biggie. The room was clean, and the property was very pretty, that's the most important thing. If you don't plan on spending a lot of time at the resort I would recommend a property like Las Palomas which is a little closer to all the action. But we go to Puerto Penasco all the time and really look forward to enjoying the beach and pools most days so don't mind that this property is a little further out than the others. read more

I had booked a 7 day stay with RCI. I paid the $550 resort fee (2BD) via their customer service as I did not receive an email to pay the resort fee ahead of my stay. I did not receive an email confirmation (my 1stmistake), but saw the charge on my credit card. When I checked in, the front service person said that they had no record of me paying the resort fee ahead of time and I did not have an email confirmation or statement. I figured I would provide the credit card info once I got back home and Vidanta would credit me back the $550 (2nd mistake). My 3rd mistake was attending their time share presentation (although they called it something else). After the presentation and over 2 hours of them talking about the benefits, I told them we were not interested. The basically said we wasted their time and that we shouldn't accept these presentations if we were not going to buy. It's been several months and multiple emails and phone calls, but Vidanta will not credit me the double charge of the resort fee. Please stay away from them as they will try to cheat you out of your money!!!! read more

Traveled here with family last year. At first driving to this location is scary, it's in the middle of no where. You almost feel like your driving alone in the desert getting lost but once you finally arrive to the resort you won't believe your eyes. I saw tennis courts by the parking lot. Lobby is huge and they host karaoke plus dancing nights. There's a hotel doctor in the lobby in case you feel ill during your stay. If you forgot to bring a cover up, hat, sunglasses, etc. don't worry there's a store inside lobby as well. (Thank goodness for that because town is about 30 minutes away) they have an enclosed indoor heated pool and a big pool outside. There's a restaurant right in front of pool that serves good seafood and tasty cocktails. (I recommend you stop at a costco before your arrival to buy an ice chest, sandwich items or other food items you want to prepare in your room and plenty of drinks, because it gets very pricey eating and drinking all day for a week. Don't forget to buy a plastic cup with lid so you can enjoy your drinks poolside.) They also host water aerobics, morning yoga, cooking lessons, and other activities to keep guests entertained on a daily basis. There's palapas with beds (tiki loungers) that you need to grab early in the morning or they'll be taken for the day. (If you leave it unattended for 1 hour, the staff gives it to another guest so be aware) they have ping pong tables right by pool and vendors that sell ceramic pieces for adults & children to paint. You can even buy jewelry and get temporary tattoos by another vendor. There's a gym & spa as well and another big restaurant that offers different food items everyday. Beach is in the back and great for sunrise walking or sunset. You can book a boat ride or a banana ride through hotel. Right next door is the newest section of hotel that you may be able to go to if your lucky. It is a lot better next door with a bar right in pool, outdoor restaurant and lazy river. Water slides for kids and beautiful loungers overlooking the ocean. I was able to go to that side because other family members have a time share there. It's a great place to go to if you don't want to be surrounded by too many people and you want to relax. Beach is not crowded like other locations. After 5 days we got a bit bored and drove into town. Did some shopping and ate at a great ocean front restaurant. There's many oyster farms you can drive to on your way back to hotel as well, you just have to read the signs on side of road or go with someone that's been there before. (I highly recommend) Great prices on a platter of fresh raw or cooked oysters to eat right there along with ceviche tostadas and beer! I enjoyed my stay because we were a a very large group and we were always entertained! The men went golfing while the ladies sunbathed one day! The staff was always very friendly!! I recommend this place if you want to drive somewhere not too far from California. (7.5 hours from San Bernardino) read more
I don't even know where to start before I post this massive thread about the unethical business practices that I recently experienced with Vidanta. Hmmm... Should I start with the aggressive sales tactics I was presented or being baited first and then completely switched from the first sales person to the next? Let's start it off with this: As with the many forums and consumer complaints that I read after going through the dreaded sales presentation, we were enticed by a free breakfast, discounts, and a chance to access the glorified GRAND MAYAN amenities that Grand Mayan guests had a privilege to use (*which by the way was another sales pitch they use during the sales presentation as regular Mayan guests or you can deem us "pheasants" weren't allowed to access). Overall breakfast was good, everything was buffet style and of course I took advantage of that knowing that the sales presentation would take a million hours to complete. The young gal that showed us around was sweet but inexperienced as some of my questions weren't answered and were always being redirected to the sales manager (more about him later). The units being shown were of course extravagant in nature, modern, and beautiful, I mean who wouldn't want a condo unit where you get top of the line appliances and an ocean view to match? You'd be crazy not to divulge in that unit. Now fast forward to finally meeting the infamous sales manager Francisco or short "Cisco." This is where it gets interesting. Upon meeting Cisco, I was greeted with a smile asking where were from and then simply getting a response saying he has family from Arizona. Great now to main point of this botcher, my fiancé and I were offered the following: a chance to own one of there listed condos for $10,080 + vidanta dollars + other incentives that I wish I haven't forgotten (forgive me my brain was fried after listening to this man speak). Basically the break down goes as follows: I put a down payment of 2,500 then finance the rest in payments at an astounding APR rate of 9% or $96 per month. If I did this I would have been able to stay at there Grand Mayan suites from there 7 locations in Mexico while at the same time receive reward dollars to stay at any listed hotels that there partnered with only paying for the state/countries sales tax at 16-30%. It sounded pretty enticing with my fiancé and I needing at least 5 minutes to talk it over. Personally speaking, you can call me the practical one in the relationship as I had to highlight the upcoming expenses that the two of us had expecting (i.e. wedding and daily living expenses). Obviously not being able to complete my own research of what we might be purchasing is always a red flag for me as a buyer. We both made our decisions and politely declined the offer that was initially given to us. This is where saying "no" was completely ignored and not fully comprehended by Cisco. He then went on to show me more pictures of all the Vidanta locations, complete with its full amenities, and even went to lowering the initial price of $10,000 to $8,000 with that lowering the monthly payment from $96-86 but fore mentioning will only include the Mayan amenities only, not the luxurious Grand Mayan. This back and forth aggressive sales tactic went for another 30 mins, where I finally got irritated to raise my voice in displeasure. He finally got the hint that I wasn't going to finalize any deal before I did my research. I tend not to finalize anything if I don't know what it entails just as any smart consumer would do, which in hindsight I am truly grateful as mentioned earlier this company is notorious of scamming people out there money. Finally, when I thought the sales pitch was over I was wrong! I was then greeted by Claudia whom supposedly was the corporate liaison (aka Vidanta's own sales rep as the other two were supposedly contracted third party vendors? Weird I know). She then went on to complete a short survey of how my experience with Cisco went, I told her the truth and started to jot it down on her notes. Personally, this was the classic bait and switch game as she then started to compare the two prices together, Cisco's offer to hers, and ironically a corporate head abruptly interrupted our conversation to clearly mark another offer to us. At this time, I was up to my boiling point with the constant sales pitch and basically told her the same thing with Cisco, I AM NOT INTERESTED! Unlike Cisco, she respectively accepted the fact I was not interested and was able to go on my way. We then were directed to our promised gifts and a chance to use the Grand Mayan amenities- in reality was not as expected as the only upside was the pool was heated, lazy river present, and golf course which was never used as I personally never played in a 9 hole golf coarse. read more

Fabulous views & beach!!! But only reason to stay here. Was upgraded to a view 2 bedroom as we agreed to go to the breakfast presentation & tour. As we had guests, it was worth it but spent all day listening to the timeshare sales quagmire. Started at 10 am & ended at 4:30 pm. Yes we bought for $2999.00 (went through 6 different sales people!) Cancelled the next day (you do have 5 days to do this no matter what they tell you.) Have put a dispute on the credit card. Taped our last meeting to cancel with another manager & was offered to lower the membership fee to $1999.00!!! This fee was originally $75,000. Since we are retired it didn't waste us precious vacation time & we can always bring our trailer down to stay at one of the RV parks @ $25/night on the beach at the reef. No pool but seawater. This place is poorly laid out with master bath vanity open to main living area. Few cooking items, basically enough to make nachos in the microwave. Since you are 25 minutes from town, only onsite Bakal restaurant open past 7 pm, and although food is good, pricey for Mexico & it gets old after 3 days. Service was very good everywhere here for us. read more

I decided to book my vacation to Puerto Peñasco, Sonora Mexico (Rocky Point) on July 2021 for The Mayan Palace Puerto Peñasco, I noticed in some reviews that they are remodeling the pools but they are giving access to the Pools in The Grand Mayan I thought well it's ok. Now 2 days before my trip the resort lost my reservation, they don't have it because their system black out, so they canceled the reservation. Two days before my trip with my two little girls excited to go to the beach! Are you kidding me??? I will never visit this resort for sure, terrible service in different aspects, so disappointed, what a way to ruin people's vacation. Do not book in this resort. read more

Front desk is extremely rude , even the "manager" Marco . There was a huge mix up in the room they gave me and when I went to go and complain they could have cared less . Such a shame reading everyone's reviews and the resort not doing shit about the front desk ! Fire them all and rehire new staff . Maybe try moving up bell boys who have sooooo much better customer service . This resort isn't even packed .. and I wonder why ? I hope someone fixes this problem with the front desk soon before they start losing more guest . It's ridiculous paying over 1,000.00 for that type of treatment . Spend your money else where people . Do yourself the favor !!!!!!! read more

1) Hotel is located in a dead zone. Until we entered the lobby, I was wondering whether there will be a hotel when I saw unfinished buildings & piles of trash along the endless empty road. 2) Unfinished hotel: a very typical Mayan Palace / Grand Mayan layout, except the Grand is not complete. There is only a structure standing in the middle b/w the Palace & Grand. The Palace is 14 years old, very dated place. There were 3 or 4 people working on the unfinished Grand during the day. But again, the place is dead. 3) Very expensive price in the hotel. Even though we expect a normal Mayan Resort price; but since the hotel is 30 min outside of main village, you are stuck with what they have. The market does not offer any groceries so you will need to drive to the village if you want to cook a bit yourself. No public transportation available. 4) Not so great services. We have to switch hotel room after first night due to broken heater. The room was only 60F, & we were really cold. Also on the last day of our stay, my husband got really sick after being offered "filtered" water at their pool side restaurant. He was up all night, throwing up & having diarrhea every hour. We asked for help from hotel Doctor, & was charged $100, $50 for the 20 min discussion with the doc, $50 for some pill to help with the diarrhea. We filed a complaint with hotel manager, but he offered no help. This resort offers very different experience compared with same brand in Puerto Vallarta. We will not come back here, & won't recommend it. read more

I have to say this is the worst 5 star resort I have ever stayed in. I would have to say the room was a 1 bedroom suite suppose to sleep 4 but if you call a trundle bed with a inch cushion a bed for two adults. Plus it says a full kitchen. With 2 burners and a microwave. That is not a full kitchen. Also want to point out every morning you woke up it smelled like sewage. But to top it off you only can park valet so we dropped off our car Friday night on September 13th and Saturday afternoon we noticed our rear end of our car was damaged. When approaching the management they admitted to the damage by saying how would you like a free breakfast? My husband said no I don't want a breakfast I want my car fixed. So they agreed to do so and filled out the form they gave us there email and they would be in touch with us. Well it never happened until a week later after we spoke to Martine the valet manager and Jaquan was the hotel manager said there was no proof and they were not paying for it. So we are out 1900 dollars the damage to our car. What a bunch of assholes will never go there again Tand p read more

Expected a lot more from "Vidanta". Please explain to me why the road to get to the resort off the main road is so windy. This place is literally 19min away from the main road. It's in the middle of now where so why not have a straight road leading into the resort? The bellboys/valet, bartender at the Mayan Palace pool and waiter at Mulata are the only people I could compliment They were friendly and accommodating and super attentive. We drove from Los Angeles and arrived around 9:30pm. Got our luggage up to the room. We were starving so decided to try their "Prime Rib" night. Since we arrived almost at 10pm right before they closed there was no Prime rib left. The chef offered to cook a couple of NY Steaks and a chicken breast for our toddler. This dinner is supposed to be buffet but the buffet is lacking. The lighting in the restaurant is horrible so when the time came to sign for the check we did. Once we got into some light I realized they had charged us for 4 Prime Rib dinners!!! I asked to speak with someone in charge. Fabian (not sure of his title) agreed that we should not have been billed for Prime Rib dinner and apologized but since it was so late and their "captain" was sleeping he would need to speak with someone in the morning and would call us the next day. Never heard from this again. We get back to our room and realize the curtains in the living room don't close all the way. I call down for maintenance and asked if someone could come the next day and fix the issue. Again No one ever showed up. We had to pin the curtains together every night. I found a used bandaid in one of the drawers, my 2 year old found old chocolates and a headband in another drawer. The "sofa sleepers" very uncomfortable. Luckily we took our air mattress with us. There was a large spider in our room. Ice bucket was broken Shower looked old and dingy Shower had a line to hang clothes to dry.... it was literally hanging by a thread. Resort guide book was out dated, and dirty You get billed if you use the coffee they provide and drink the water bottle they provide. Make sure to look over all charges when checking out. We were told that if we billed everything to the room we would get 10% off at the time of checkout. What they failed to mention was ONLY if we go to one of their presentations. No one there knows whats going on. 1 person can only do so much and if they try and reach someone who can help they never show up or respond. I'm glad we drove there and didn't have to spend much time in the resort. 1 week later and I still have not heard back from "Kathy" who was supposed to look into our Prime Rib bill. Ugh. Needless to say we will not be returning to Mayan Palace in Puerto Penasco. read more

Absolutely gorgeous and isolated resort along the beach about 14 miles south of Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point), Mexico, and next to the international airport. Many of the clients have U.S. license plates, and the scenery and grounds with waterfalls and interior is impressively beautiful. The Vidante restaurant offers a vast Sunday brunch with endless champagne or Mimosa and entertainment with the xylophone overlooking the ocean. Lots of choices of entrees from all around Mexico including seafood. A gem in the middle of the desert. read more

I have never posted a trip review on the internet before; however, this years' experience made me feel I needed to inform others of my experiences in an effort to help them avoid the aggravation and financial mistake I made purchasing from Vidanta (Grupo Mayan). I have condensed this review from a 3- page document I originally wrote but was way too long to post; unfortunately, I had to leave out a lot of details. My family's adventure started on Friday, October 5th, 2018. About 20 minutes from the Mayan resort I found myself driving behind a large Vidanta bus so I couldn't see the road conditions in front of me. I was caught totally unprepared when I started driving through a flowing river of water. Even though I tried to utilize the wake from the Vidanta bus, the water was still half way up the side of the doors of my Lexus hybrid (electric) vehicle. My family and I were terrified. When we arrived at the resort I expressed my concerns that we had not been notified of the hazardous road conditions. I was told that the road had been flooded for several days but that it was not Vidanta's fault - nobody informed Vidanta that water was going to be released from a dam. I expressed that although it was not Vidanta's fault that the road was flooded, Vidanta had plenty of time to contact guests (they have both our phone and email information) if they cared at all about our safety. Vidanta took no accountability for failing to contact us and putting us in a dangerous situation nor did they even offer us a simple apology. Even though I made my reservations 6 months in advance on Monday, April 2nd (April 1st was Easter Sunday), I was told there were no Grand Mayan rooms available and was placed at the Mayan Palace. When I checked-in the Hostess gave us a Mayan Palace bracelet which would not allow us to use the amenities of the Grand Mayan resort such as the more luxurious pool or the lazy river. To make a very long story short, I had to fight to get the amenities I pay for. In addition, although we paid for a luxurious Grand Mayan room with a beautiful view, we got a Mayan Palace room that had a couch with pee stains, a bathmat with holes and a view of a maintenance facility. Although I have spoken with at least four high ranking members of Vidanta in the past, I set up another meeting to raise my concerns. I met with a nice gentleman named Victor. I have to admit I appreciated the empathy that Victor showed when I told him about my concerns and it appeared that he sincerely wanted to help me. After breakfast Victor wanted to check the inventory of Grand Mayan units to see if he could help facilitate transferring me to a Grand Mayan unit. When we arrived at the Sales Office he introduced me to Abraham Benitez, the Sales Manager. Mr. Benitez said he found a Grand Mayan room for me and asked Victor if he had presented me with a solution to my problem. Mr. Benitez stated that he was going to do me a favor and tell me what other Vidanta personnel had failed to tell me in the past. He explained that since 2004 there have been several contract updates and the people who have taken advantage of those updates have priority over me in getting a Grand Mayan unit. I mentioned that when the new Grand Mayan tower is finally completed I should be able to get a Grand Mayan room. He said the new tower would not help me get a room and again stated that the people with the upgraded contracts would have priority of me. Mr. Benitez asked me if I was there for a solution and I said yes. He stated that the only thing I could do to get a room at the Grand Mayan was to upgrade my contract. At this point I got irritated and pulled out a piece of paper and started taking notes. I said, "let me make sure I'm understanding what you are saying. Although Vidanta has a contractual obligation to give me a Grand Mayan unit, you are saying that unless I pay an additional $9,300 to upgrade my contract I will never get a Grand Mayan room." My changed demeanor aggravated him and he said something very closely to, "if you are going to act that way then maybe I shouldn't transfer you to a Grand Mayan room". I told him that was his choice and then he stated that he would honor his word. He then clarified what he said previously, "What I am telling you is that unless you upgrade your contract you will not receive anything different than what you have received in the past". I thanked him for being so honest with me as his words make it totally clear that Vidanta had no intention of honoring my contract. As a side note, there was a misunderstanding between Vidanta employees and I was not transferred to a Grand Mayan room. My original room was #2323 and I was transferred to room #2518 which is a Mayan Palace room with an ocean view. I have lost total faith in Vidanta. Please see my review on why it is better to be a non-owner vs an owner. read more

We had a horrible time at the Mayan Palace. Vidanta, the resort owner is only interested in selling timeshares. We paid a large "facilities Fee" only to find (1) the pool was not heated and is FREEZING, (2) there were virtually no activities, (3) the indoor pool was lovely and heated, but who goes to Mexico to swim indoors, (4) in order to visit the abutting property, which had a heated pool, you were required to attend a high pressure sales team trying to sell you a condo. At first the price was over $80,000, then it was reduced to $50,000, and finally, as we were walking out, we were given an offer of $5,000! WHAT A SCAM! Food was mediocre, drinks watered down and VERY expensive, room falling apart, furniture uncomfortable and staff unhelpful. I will NEVER visit a Vidanta resort again! read more

For a Mayan Palace you sure got a lot of improving to do. I'll give you a few examples why. I'm staying at the Grand Mayan and: - There is no restaurant close to the Grand Mayan building. - Since there is no restaurant at Grand Mayan, we have to wait for a golf cart to take us there. Sometimes you have to wait over 25 minutes for it! - There is no staff at the Grand Mayan building. If you need anything, you have to go to the main lobby. One afternoon, we had done some shopping at the hotel shop and we have a 9 month old baby so we had our hands full. We get to our door and our bracelet keys don't work. It takes them over half an hour to send someone with new keys. What are we supposed to do in the meantime, camp out in the hallway? I asked for wine at dinner (outrageous right?). The waiter had to go get the captain who outright told me they had none. A few minutes later, I turn around and see another table pouring themselves some wine. Lying?... really? If that's the captain's service, just imagine... Also at dinner, ahead of me is an American guy getting shrimp from the grill made to order. Of course he gets a huge plate of shrimp. I get half of what he got. After me was a 10 year old Mexican girl who got 3 shrimp. I asked the cook to give her more shrimp, and after rolling his eyes at me, threw another 3 shrimp on the skillet. It is blatantly obvious that you treat foreign tourists better than you treat Mexican tourists. Last time I checked, that was called discrimination. I could go on and on, but I think you get the point by now. read more

Just returned from a 4 night stay at the MP. If you are driving from Tucson, it's best to avoid returning to the U.S. on a Saturday or Sunday; long lines to get back across the border. We went down on a Sunday and came back on Thursday; worked out fine. We've been going to the MP at Penasco for almost 7 years and I would agree with the previous reviewer that the reviews are low, especially for what we've experienced over the past 7 years. Service is always cordial and relatively prompt; the food in the Bakal (main) restaurant is always excellent as is the service, especially if you can get Fabian as your waiter; he's excellent! The Golf Course restaurant also has a excellent dish in their large shrimp fixed with tequila, coconut, or garlic over a bed of mushroom risotto--best meal at the MP!! Arturo, who runs the Golf Club, is extremely personable and always aims to please. We had a wonderful 2nd floor room in the Tower overlooking the ocean--just wonderful. We continue to go down 2X a year and will continue to do so. Great getaway and very easy 4 1/2 hours from Tucson. Their Covid protections are better than I've experienced in the U.S. Highly recommended!! read more

This resort has it's pro's and con's. I'll start with the Pro's. Awesome vacant beach. Not packed, you basically have it all to yourself. Fun little beach critters, crabs, sea gulls, fish etc. You wake up to different beach everyday, some days the tide is in, some days it's out. The beach has volleyball and soccer, and palapas. The hotel rooms are ok, nothing outstanding. TV has mostly mexican channels, one or 2 english speaking channels. The pool is ok, nice and big, fun for kids. Ice machines work, good towel service, and the waitstaff as under staffed as they are at the pool, they work as fast as they can. I have nothing bad to stay about the staff, they were all great with me. CONS. They have you by the balls if you didn't pack food for the week. SO PACK FOOD. The one main restaurant will rape you. Some nights its $25 for the buffet, some nights its $43 and it's really NOT worth the price. We went on pork night and it was ok at best. I was expecting pork belly, bacon, shredded pork, pigs ears etc. It had 3 different versions of roasted pork.....thats it. The rest was typical fillers along the buffet, instant mashed potatoes, veggies, beans, rice, etc. It wasn't good enough for me to go again. Especially when I have a 11 year old that will eat a handful of fruit and a roll of some sort. The pool restaurant was REALLY good I thought, I had the fresh shrimp a couple of times, my family ate here 2 times during our stay. Drinks at the pool are expensive as well, I avoided them at all cost. Happy Hour is literally an hour, so you blink and you miss it. The time market off the lobby is not a market. 50% of it is clothing. It does not have much, soda, beer, water, small bags of chips and cookies etc. They do everything to steer you in the direction of their restaurants. You are about 20 miles out of town, so pack more than what you need. The fridge is a college fridge so bring a cooler. I like this place and would stay again. I would bring more food thats about it. It's outrageously over priced. Stay away from the time share presentation. We went strictly because we wanted all access to the Grand Mayan. 4 hours later we were getting pissed off and walking out. They started at $53,000 for a 2 bedroom, and after we went through 3 tiers of salesmen, their last offer was $3900 for the same UNIT!! A $50,000 DIFFERENCE!!!!! If you sign up for this, you know what your getting into, so don't complain about it. read more

This is a 5 Star resort? I've had better service and and definitely better rooms at the Beat Western or even Super 8. We came free of charge because of a gift from parents who have timeshare rights. When we showed up the timeshare hit us up to do the tour. We instantly declined and I believe that's where it all went downhill. The timeshare employee got to choose our room. We ended up by the parking lot with a room that did not have a refrigerator, a closet or anywhere to hang clothes, no coffee maker, cable tv or any TV for that matter and then the heater was stuck on. Asked to be moved and was told I had to ask timeshare people who of course told us there wasn't any other available rooms. Nothing fixed never moved read more

DON'T STAY THERE!!!! If you want to stay at a resort where a bunch of liars are working, who will charge you for things you shouldn't be charged for, and there is no one to complain to, be my guest! No way this is a 5 star resort hotel! far from it. We left the :"Please clean our room" sign outside our door for 2 days in a row. Left at 10 am, came back at 7 pm. Room wasn't done, beds not done, dirty towels. Called them and they promised to put our room as priority the next day. Same crap happened again. Room was cold(normal for month of March). Heat wasn't working. Had to have a guy on a ladder in our room for 1.5 hrs to get it fixed. On our last morning, I went to brush my teeth and there was water leaking from the ceiling onto the vanity. My make up was drenched in water and ruined. I called. They didn't care or apologize. Floor was dirty. I called before we booked and spoke to an Isaac. He put me on hold for 30 minutes and finally came back and told me that the manager said it's $7 per person per day. When we got there, they decided that the fee is $20 per person per day. I told them that I specifically called before booking and was told it's $7. They said: "absolutely not". The prices changed, supposedly, in the last week and they wouldn't honor it. They told me that I get 25% off through RCI (my time share) and if I go to the presentation, I will get an additional 25% off so 50% off resort fee. Their exact words. My husband and I did the stupid presentation that took 4 hours instead of the promised 1 hour. Now I had it in writing that I was getting an additional 25% off. At check out, they refused to do it. The only reason we did the presentation was to get the 25% off. I called the manager over and showed him in writing that I am supposed to get 25% off additional. He refused to do it. Told me that if I don't like Mexico, I shouldn't come here anymore(BTW, that was my first time to Puerto Penasco). Can you imagine a manager in a hotel in the states talking to you in such a way??? To my right and left at the check out desk, I heard people arguing about the unknown charges to their room. I was not the only one. The resort is 40 minute drive from town, so if you're a little worried about driving on a lonely dirt road for 40 minutes in the dark to get dinner in town, like I was, you're stuck paying $19(American dollars) for a very average personal veggie pizza or $15 for a cheese personal size pizza. NOT WORTH IT!!! DON'T RUIN YOUR VACATION!! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE IN ROCKY POINT!!! read more

“Service is always cordial and relatively prompt; the food in the Bakal (main) restaurant is always excellent as is the service, especially if you can get Fabian as your waiter; he's excellent!”

We stayed here and it was okay but it was what happened after we left that this review is about. While driving back home, I asked my wife for the bag that had my wedding ring and other items in it that we put in the room safe. She could not find it and realized she pushed it to the side taking hers out. We called the resort and they went to the room and sure enough my stuff was there so they labeled it and put it in the main safe. When we got home we called to have the items picked up to ship and they said "we do not ship". I explained that I would have the delivery driver come pick it up and ship it to me. They would not allow that as they could not guarantee the items would be returned to me. I challenged them on that and spoke to other managers. The ruling stood firm that "they do not ship" and I would have to pick up my items. We have a couple friends that have timeshares there and so we settled on they would get my wedding ring in a few months when they return there. When they did, there was no package in the safe and no record of the items. I finally got a manager that agreed that the items had been stolen by an employee and he would make it right by giving us a free stay in exchange for my loss. I agreed and have the email on the agreement. When we went to book the trip it was denied because the manager no longer worked there. Numerous phone calls and emails later I have no wedding ring and no comp trip back. Horrible people who only care about taking your money and not about any kind of honor or fairness. We will never stay at a Mayan Resort again and I will continue to share my story so that others do not either. read more
