Amazing first-ever stay at Peñasco del Sol! Booked the king suite with beach view and balcony, which is a one-bedroom with a pull-out sofa in the living room. Room was large and very clean; bed must have been a California king (since it was bigger than my king-sized bed). Kitchen area had a decent sized mini-fridge with an actual freezer, and a microwave. Interior walls are concrete/stucco, so I would imagine rooms are quiet even during the busy season. Our balcony was really only deep enough for standing room, not sure this is true for all rooms, but that was the only down-side. View was spectacular. All the staff was extremely friendly, and the bell person was especially informative. The included breakfast offered fairly minimal but well rounded selections; portions were ample--and delicious! They also offer an additional (paid) breakfast menu. Another on-site restaurant off of the casino area (La Arena 3C) was suuuuper good with amazing specials and happy hour pricing. On Taco Tuesday: three shrimp tacos and a chicken taco; three mini-quesadillas; a large bottle of jamaica aqua fresca; a beer; and a dessert special with two carajillos (coffee cocktails) and a small cake all came to $26.04. Ridiculous. We obviously ate there twice. There's a cute little "beach" area on the property just past the pool that overlooks the sea and has tables with umbrellas and lounge chairs, or daybeds. All with food/drink service. Perfect lounging (napping?) area. Since we were only visiting for two days we never left the resort property, and were perfectly happy with what was available to us. There is a drug store just across the street for water and other needs, but we brought all our own. Can't wait to come back and stay here again and explore the town! read more

At check out said they never took a deposit and they had taken $480 but couldn't find it . Literally every part of the stay was terrible . They said they didn't have valet parking but the guy outside said if we pay tune $500 pesos that he can tell receptionist to give it to us and then paid $30 each car for valet . I been staying at this hotel plenty of times in the past . Absolutely will never stay here again. I've hesitated for years to ride my motorcycle to Mexico. And finally, the stars aligned & we booked Peñasco Del Sol for Rocky Point Rally. Since this hotel is at the ending Calle 13, one of TWO popular spots for the rally- it was a no brainer. Another reason, the pool and view of Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California). We beelined to the resort to snag VIP/ Preferred parking, closest to the resort. Versus and the secured general parking at the end of the road. Which is huge. The lobby is huge with long sofas, seating along the ceiling to floor windows, and the lobby bar area. The music was really turned up in the lobby and outside of the lobby. I'm sure it's because of welcoming riders from near and far. For the VIP parking, it cost$15/ day. Which really is a steal! We were given breakfast coupons. Which breakfast is served at 7am daily. We booked the Master Suite w/ Sea View & Balcony. I was navigating the pics for this specific room on their website & I loved how it was literally easy access outside of the room from the living room sliding doors. Quaint patio chairs & table outside and additional ones within steps for other guests. I loved the sunrise & sunsets. And watching people enjoy the sandbar steps from the resort. I wanted to extra kitchen counter space for the stuff we hauled. Enough space to plug in our helmets. Along with the 2 huge water jugs we purchased from the Pharmacy across the street. * DO NOT DRINK the tap water! The shower stall is odd. No shower curtains, no glass sliding doors. Just one huge open gap for you to enter/ exit from. One of my pet peeves is unnecessary water spillage on the floor! Didn't realize til our very last night (4th night) that there are 3 channels that are in English! Wahhhhh! It was hilarious watching South Park en Español! LOL After we unpacked our moto gear- I beelined for the pool! The large pool wasn't freezing- just less than lukewarm. It's shaped like a kidney bean- so if you plan on swimming laps- use caution since there's a middle bend in the center. And along the entire edges of the pool are benches under the water. Wish they were a slight different color than the pool floor, to help with depth perception. The children's splash pad is convenient for the kiddos. And right next to the large pool. PLENTY of lounge chairs & elevated lounge beds, that I think you need to pay to use. That jacuzzi is EVERYTHING! Great temperature and can hold quite a few people. The jacuzzi is closest to the swim up bar. That also has a water fall. Until our second day (of four)- that's when the main pool had heat. I think hubby got our striped (2) pool towels from the front desk- and they'll hang onto your pool towels card, until you return both. There's a dirty pool towel bin next to the reception desk. As the sun sets- the palm trees near the pool have wrap around patio lights and string lights add an illuminated touch. I was chatting with a couple on the first day- who are repeat customers to the hotel for Rocky Point Rally & they mentioned last November (2024) the pool wasn't working and the waterfall to the swim up bar wasn't also. For the motor rally, there was a live band at the pool area- and it gave hotel guests such a great alternative to enjoy the Sea of Cortez backdrop and getting away from all the rally chaos on Calle 13. The limited breakfast menu for the vouchers offered a lil something for everyone. Then again, there's an additional breakfast menu, for a fee. The first morning I enjoyed the chilaquiles & added bacon. The remaining mornings- I really enjoyed the nice large bowl of oatmeal! (Of course, I added bacon!) If I do come along to Puerto Peñasco, I'm booking this hotel again. Coffee shop opens at 6am/ lobby. Iron & ironing board are on request. read more

There's also a cafe and restaurant on-site, making it easy to enjoy great food and drinks without going too far. The location is perfect, just steps away from the beach, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing getaway. I highly recommend Peñasco Del Sol for anyone visiting Puerto Peñasco. We had the honeymoon suite, ocean view with a hot tub & shower. The room is very nice & clean however it smelled of sewage. We called to have someone check it out. Maintenance guy just poured some liquid into the sewer to make smell it better & advised to close the plug from the hot tub. It did not go away smh. The hotel itself is very nice, great customer service but did get warning about the corrupt cops smh. Anything around the hotel is run down & dirty. We had everything we need within affordable rates at this humble hotel! The Puñesco del Sol hotel has a welcoming lobby with high ceilings, a bar, restaurant, and a newly renovated cafe inside where I had a Latte Frappuccino which was yummy! Our room overlooked the beach, and they have bars you can access from the pool as well as a chill area on top of the water with parasols that allowed pets. They offer pet friendly beds apparently, so we'll get that next time because our puppy brought so much sand in our bed which was really the only thing that could be changed on our side. Our second time here. It was incredible. So reassuring to see our same porter - Randel Escobedo greet us when we rolled up. He seems to be everywhere! And ALWAYS incredibly friendly, helpful and humble. He recognized us immediately. What a warm greeting. Then we find our super friendly Francisco serving us breakfast the next morning. Always, always a smile and ready to go above and beyond! We were happy with seeing the same staff. Our double queen patio room next to the pool was perfect. Absolutely not one single complaint. A stop at Barb's Dog Rescue to drop off bags of dog food and a case of water on our way home made the trip perfect. read more

The service (people) were great - for the most part. The pool and lobby are very cleaned and well maintained. The problem is the rooms- we had two different rooms, the first one STUNK so bad that the bell boy himself requested for us to be moved. It was dirty and it has bugs. They moved us to a new room, equally dirty (although not smelly) as well as dark. It's the kind of hotel where they try to make it look presentable but it is def not worth the cost. The free parking is down the block, so you'll have to walk there (not that far, but it's still worth mentioning) they say they have security but they actually don't.... If you are in RP for the beach and do not care about the rooms, then the hotel is fine. If you care about the actual accommodations- go else where! PS- the No cooler policy is strictly enforced, so be ready for that! read more

Above average room was hospitable, the restaurant was good, overcooked my steak go for the rib-eye the tomahawk wasn't as good still finished it, the pool was my favorite part, the communication with the management was abysmal. U have to fight tooth and nail to get the the $35 credit for food or beverage, only avaliable as a coupon & only the manager can give u & they run out so if u don't ask in the am your going to be out of luck, breakfast was free the 1st day for me,wife & the kiddo, but the second it was only half off the kiddo and free just for us, other than that I will go back, it's worth signing up for their online membership also. Drinks at the bar and pool were fair price, and the exchange rate for your dollar was the best in town, which was a good surprise. read more

*UPDATE* We left our wallets in the room the entire trip and only took cash with us. We never used our card on the trip only cash. My card was charged in Kansas and drained my account for "Boost Mobile" and "AT&T" the exact time we left checked out and left the hotel. The only people with access are the crooked cleaning staff. Very crooked staff. Arriving at the hotel was very nice. Room looked clean, but things started to get more disappointing. Our room was not cleaned for two days, we had to call and request it to be cleaned. We also noticed a few roaches running around. I let the front desk staff know but they never offered to give us another room. After our room was cleaned we noticed there was still stains and little bits of sand on the sheets and a single roach leg on the floor. Floors are very dirty and you can't walk barefoot unless you want a bunch of sand stuck to your feet. Also after the room was cleaned, there was no towels in our room at all. It seemed great for the price but cleanliness is a huge issue here. Took the whole day to get towels to our room, he had requested over 3 times. This hotel is pretty nice and the price we paid was great. We could've stayed on the other side where the other more "popular" hotels/timeshares were for at least $150+ more a night so we opted to stay here to see how it goes. We were not disappointed. The beach is steps away from the hotel. The pools are great and have great views of the ocean. The pool snack bar has probably the best street tacos we've had thus far at $2/taco. There is a "kids club" but all it consisted of were a few tables with chairs. Not the kids club I was used to at other hotels where there are actual activities and you can drop your child off for a few hours. The hotel staff were very friendly. Other people had written that you couldn't bring in coolers or your own food or drinks. We had NO problem with this at all. They told us that we were allowed to have coolers and our food and drink but to please consume them ONLY on the beach or in our rooms, but you couldn't bring them out to the pool area. That makes total sense to us. But I was so worried about bringing our own food and drinks that I packed it in a suitcase to be incognito to later find out it wasn't even necessary. We even watched a bellman load up and deliver a family's belongings which included HUGE coolers and cases of water and beer. Maybe they've changed their policy. The rooms itself are just okay. We just had the standard room but we were happy that we actually got a great view of the pool area and of the ocean. Sunsets and Sunrises were gorgeous from our room. The walls and ceilings are so thin. You can hear everything outside your door. I could hear the water running down when the people upstairs flushed their toilet and when they moved a chair across the room, I could hear it as though I was sitting in the same room as them. This wasn't that big of a deal for us as it was quiet during regular sleeping hours. The beds are very firm, but not uncomfortable. Definitely not what I'm used to. All rooms have tile and no carpet. Besides that, we weren't in our room that much. Parking there is pretty bad. If you are lucky enough, and have a car small enough (we have a CRV and it barely fit), you can park right next to the hotel. Otherwise, you have to park way down the street. We ended up getting a spot next to the hotel and then just took a taxi for everything else because we really didn't want to lose our parking spot. Taxi's were super cheap there. It cost us $6 (family of 4) one way to get to Al Capone's restaurant then back. It cost us $5 one way to get to El Malecon then back. They don't have meters on their cars, they just make up a price. One guy asked me how much I wanted to give him! The check out process was slightly unorganized. You get in line to check out, then when it comes time to give you back your $75 deposit, you have to go sit for about "10 minutes or so" while the housekeeping goes to your room to make sure everything is okay. After 10 minutes, you get back in line and wait for the "ok" from housekeeping to the front desk agent, and then they give you cash back for your deposit. I'm not sure why they don't just keep it on your credit card and credit you later. Instead you have to wait in line twice which at that time, a lot of people were checking out so I had to wait for more than 15 minutes each time. Also, you have to put a deposit on your account in order to make any room charges. Minimum deposit is $80 and they credit you back when you check out. Overall, we would definitely stay at this hotel again. read more

The food in the restaurante is tasteless, the service overall is good, but the main problem is with the installations, we stayed for 5 nights, and since day one we had issues with the water, somedays no water would come out from the faucet or shower head, some other times no hot water at all. We probably had maintenance 6 times in our room, and they would fixed it, and would work only for a while, to then later have the same issue again. I wouldn't come back ever again. read more

I used to stay here a bunch before the pandemic. It's convenient but not super nice. Rooms smell like old standing water and mildew. It was one of a few if not the only hotel at the time and it was cheap. Well fast forward and I book through their site for the first time. That was a mistake. I paid $500 for a room with a balcony and a "view". Needless to say it was a waste. These rooms are there on purpose to make you upgrade to something better. That was the first thing they asked. What's worse is that there was no compassion from the staff even though the hotel was barely half full. I travel a lot so I like to patronize the same businesses, however they don't care about that. To add to that the shower broke the moment we turned it on. Outlets are sparse. You have to call for an iron even though there's a spot for it in the room. The mattress was dirty. The food was tasty but bite size. Parking is walk and valet is $15 (which isn't bad). Concierge was nice though and book a cruise for us. The bartenders were sweet but drinks weren't strong. Even a double tasted like a single. I wanted to continue to come here but I'd rather go somewhere where they appreciate reoccurring guests and where I'm not paying to look at a wall. Save your money. You'll get something way better for the same price somewhere else. read more

Great place that is literally a few steps away from the water. Property has 2 pools for adults and one for the kids; a Kids Club area on the pool deck next to cabana bed like things (don't know the name of them...lol). 4 stars because they charge for in-room coffee! The restaurant in the hotel was affordable and had good food including a rather inclusive breakfast buffet. The restaurant had one of the best chicken Cesar salads I've had in a long time. The hotel has parking in 3 areas but if you're driving a large SUV or truck the 2 areas near hotel entrance are going to be a very tight squeeze. My boyfriend and I stayed at Penasco del Sol during our weekend trip to Puerto Penasco and absolutely loved it! We initially got the 2nd floor pool view, but asked for a higher floor and were given the 5th floor beach view! It was a gorgeous view to wake up to in the mornings-- I really appreciated how accommodating they were. Although this hotel is one of the pricier ones around, there's a reason why it's #1 on TripAdvisor. The pool area is huge and fun-- they had an in-pool bar, a volleyball net, and a food stall. Plus, the hotel is just a few steps away from the beach. Our room was spacious and air-conditioned and the food here is cheap as chips!! We ordered room service and were surprised at the $15 bill. We will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family. read more

Happiness - 3.5/5 I wish I could award this place a 3.5. The good? The hotel looks modern, is super clean and has not one, not two, but three beautiful pools and a giant hot tub. Also, there is direct beach access that isn't completely swamped with vendors. I walked to the center of the sandy beach area and it was overrun with vendors (which made me appreciate our hotel's stretch much more). And it is also near a rocky stretch of land that, when the tide is out, you can walk along and see a bunch of sea life (my kids loved the numerous hermit crabs). The hotel also has a kids club that essentially was a bunch of easels and coloring books. It entertained my kids for about half an hour, which was nice. The alcohol is also very cheap. Of great convenience is the on-site restaurant. It isn't the best food I had there, but it is reasonably priced and just really convenient when you don't want to journey out. They also have a good buffet brunch for only $17.00! The downsides are that the staff are not very accommodating. The check-in took forever (despite me having pre-paid via Trip Advisor). They would only give me one beach/pool towel per guest (and none for the kids), so it was good we packed our own towels. They wouldn't allow me to take one of their carts to load my luggage on during check out (they said we had to have everything packed and then they'd bring it up... for a tip). And for whatever reason, they would not allow me to charge anything to the room. As many have noted, you are not allowed to bring outside food or beverage up to the room. We of course had water and snacks in our suitcase and just collected our trash to throw out at home, so it was never a problem. But for those unprepared, it would be rough to be barred from the food and beverage. The most annoying thing to me was that the parking is a short walk down the street. The issue is that the street is loaded with vendors who constantly pressure you to buy stuff during this short stroll. The hotel has a golf cart to bring you to the lot, but I only saw it running once during my 4 day stay. But I would definitely stay here as the positives outweigh the negatives. Nice view, access to the less crowded part of the beach, awesome pools, family friendly, and cheap booze. That works just fine! read more

The Good: Staff were eager to help and speak English very well, plenty of parking in the additional parking with a short walk back. Good location and close to the beach and a 6 minutes drive from "downtown" area. The Bad: the room was dirty, with some stains, bed sheets were not changed because they were all wrinkled. The pools is super small for the number of rooms, always packed, not as blue as you might be used to in US and kids jumping in and out yelling and running all day. No outside bottled water or food to your room! What? No bathroom fan, rusty, disgusting drains, bathroom door won't shut, toilet seat all scratched up, shower pressure forget about it. First, the good: 1. Easy access to the beach. 2. Nice looking pool/hot tub/bar area. 3. Beautiful ocean view (from some rooms). 4. Reasonable prices (not great, but fair). Now for the bad: 1. The first room we were put in smelled like sewage. After an argument with the front desk, they finally agreed to move us to a room that didn't stink, with a nice ocean view. Another guest I met at the bar told me that her room also smelled like sewage, so I think it must be an issue here. 2. The hotel offers no complimentary breakfast, and they charge a little too much for the breakfast buffet they do offer ($13 a person. This is Mexico, where things are supposed to be better deals...) 3. Reservations messed up our reservation. We booked two nights online, and found ourselves locked out of our room when returning on day 2, and it is a hike up to the lobby. 4. We've been to many hotels and resorts, and have never had an issue letting our kids sit in the hot tub with us. This hotel made an issue of it. I love Mexico, I love beaches, and I love two-day vacas in paradise, but this trip just wasn't as seamless as it could and should have been, and in large part due to Peñasco del Sol. Charges for EVERYTHING. Seems like a nice hotel and the room was clean. That said, they don't allow coolers, drinks or food to be brought in from outside. Hint: you CAN bring a cooler, food and water if you have a health condition. I'll let you extrapolate from there. Also, to make even a toll free call, you have to put a $160 deposit on the phone and the entire amount gets charged with ONE CALL. I asked if toll free counted towards a full charge and the lady had no idea. The manager did mention that I could call from behind the desk but, I feel, that's beyond ridiculous to not be able to make a toll free call from my room at no cost. read more

Very happy with our choice, considering our other options (many of which looked pretty scary). Lobby was very nice, as was the bar. Our room had blasting cold a/c (which we couldn't figure out how to turn down) and a beautiful view of the pool and the ocean. We had some appetizers and the brunch at Miguel's, which were good and very reasonably priced. The pool(s) were spacious and clean, the beach bar was a nice touch, and access to the beach was easy. To top it off, our dog was allowed as well. Our room wasn't at all creepy or dirty - only complaint was that our room safe didn't work properly. Word of warning....there's LOTS of glass on the beach, so make sure to wear good beach shoes or maybe closed-toe sandals. Not by any means the hotel's fault, but just a word to the wise. Where I dock this hotel a star is for a combination of two reasons: 1) While the bar and restaurant are quite nice, there's no a/c in those areas so it got very warm very quick in there. 2) Parking was about a block's walk away in an unsecured area by the water. Didn't feel completely safe leaving our car there. Also...DONT TAKE A TAXI ANYWHERE! We found out the hard way when they took us about 10 minutes into town for dinner and charged us $40 (not pesos, dollars). All things considered, we would probably return. read more

We have stayed here many times in the past and the last time we stayed here had some issues but the manager was able to resolve those so we decided to give them another chance this trip. Smoking at the pool and we voiced complaints multiple times. Nothing was done. We used to really like this place, but next time will go back to one of the Sonora's or La Paloma's. I Recently Visited Puerto Peñasco For The First Time With My Husband And Kids And Had The Pleasure Of Staying Here In Peñasco Del Sol We Absolutely Loved It When You Get There Everyone Is Very Welcoming Right When You Get There The Lobby Catches Your Attention It's Very Pretty And Elegant We Stayed In The Presidential Suite We Absolutely Loved It View Was Very Pretty It Felt Like My Home Away From Home It Had Everything Pools Are Very Clean Food Is Verry The Drinks They Make Are To Die For Personally I Loved The Piñas Coladas Yummy All Staff Is Very Nice Every One You Bump Into Always Greeds You We Were Very Happy With All Staff In Particular With A Man Name Jonathan I Believe He Is One Of The Manager To The Restaurant They Have There I Almost Wished I Would Of Asked His Last Name Overall Loved My Experience And Hope To Be Back Soon Thank You For Making My Stay Extra Special read more

This place is very well located close to town and the Malecon and with access to the beach. However the beds here are like sleeping on a rock, ouch! Staff was friendly but their rules are pretty lame, no food or drink in the rooms, really? All in all it is not a bad deal as it is cheaper than most places nearby, but if you are staying more than a night or two I'd look elsewhere. read more

Very clean and nice place for the price. We rented a cabana and enjoyed the pool for 3 days. Front desk was extremely nice while the rest of the staff was okay. It's a family place more than a singles hotel. Close walk to get food and a few night life bars. Real close drive or taxi drive to the malecon where most of the bars and food are. Wish I could give them 5 stars but a big negative is that you are not allowed to bring outside food or drinks (not even water). I understand not being able to bring in an ice chest, beer, or food to the pool but if I'm there for more than a few day's I want to bring my own snacks up to my room, especially water. Although the drinks and food at the pool are affordable not everyone who goes on a getaway can afford to buy everything at the hotel. People should be allowed to have their snacks in their room as you will still spend money at the hotel. You are allowed to bring in an ice chest for your newborn food or if your sick but that isn't the point. With all this said, the place is worth the price read more

During my last visit to Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point), Mexico, although I stayed at Las Palomas Resort, I explored around a bit, and found the gorgeous Peñasco del Sol Hotel. Located in sun-splashed Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point), Mexico, it is the only beachfront hotel within walking distance of downtown attractions, restaurants, and nightlife. There are 208 newly renovated deluxe, superior and master suites guest rooms; each spacious, handsomely furnished, and with sweeping beach views and delightful amenities. THE STORY I made a spur of the moment trip to Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point), Mexico, and used the "Hotels Tonight" app (a FANTASTIC app) to find a place to stay, which is how I found Las Palomas Resort. Las Palomas Resort shares the same gorgeous beach as Peñasco del Sol. I took a little time to drive around and look at other resorts and toured around Peñasco del Sol and had a DELICIOUS lunch by the pool overlooking the beach. One of the better hotels In rocky point Mexico. Rooms are clean and the service is good. Amenities in the room are basic with good towels, coffee and TV. Pool area is nice and has a swim up bar. Bid plus are the drink prices...very reasonable. No need to sneak in your libations. Located on a beautiful beach there is quick access to the water. Views are fabulous. Nice place to spend a week of relaxation. read more
