Ordered two chicken shawarma sandwiches and the only thing in them was chicken, lettuce and some sauce. It was missing the pickles and tomatoes. Sandwich was okay, the market had a lot of middle eastern items but was pretty messy and dusty. read more

Picked up dinner here yesterday while in town for work and I'm so glad I found this local gem. Everyone who helped me was super friendly and once I placed my order, the food was ready to go in about 10 minutes. It was delicious and affordable, which is my favorite combination. I asked for medium spicy and it was just right. Definitely had a burn but not too much to stop eating. The rice was worth writing home about too. And the portion size! I barely made a dent for dinner and finished it for lunch today. All for $11 bucks? I am a happy camper. Their à la carte food is delicious simple satisfying, great customer service and amazing prices. I will no longer be getting my meat for triple the price at Costco. I got steak here for $18 from an ethical clean source as opposed to $38 from Costco from God knows where. I called ahead and it was ready when I got there 10 minutes later. read more

This place is very clean, and the staff are friendly. Sadly though, my visit today was not a pleasant one. I ordered the chicken Donner kabob wrap. A pretty easy meal to make and deliver. The meat was was not fresh and was in a storage container, although fresh chicken was cooking and ready on the grill. I then waited for 10 minutes as the wrap was put on a george foreman grill, that I am not sure was even turned on. I was then handed my 9$ wrap, luke warm, with dried old chicken donner meat, and now warmed up tahini inside. I took a bite, did not swallow, and threw out the entire wrap. With such high ratings in this location, I am really not sure how someone could mess up a wrap so horribly? I have not made a review like this in years, someone is going to get sick eating here, if today's experience is the norm. read more

Amazing Afghan food! I tried the Qabuli Pallow and some beef kebabs. Everything was very authentic. They cooked the kebabs over a charcoal grill and were made to order. The flavors were delicious. The lamb was tender as can be and cooked to perfection. The kebabs were hot and fresh off the grill. They had a slight tangy taste. The chutney was a great addition to all the food we had. Went there and ordered 8 servings of kabobs, when it came out they said it was 7 servings and they'd be back with the other serving as soon as possible, when they came back out with it we ate and asked for tea. This is going to be my go-to halal butcher in Modesto! The reason why is because the owner is proud to serve only zabiha (hand slaughtered) meat and has certification. My husband recently called another popular butcher shop (not Mayar's) we used to go to , and they had a mixture of machine and hand slaughtered. We know people will pick their meats how they wish, but I'm strictly zabiha (hand slaughtered) so Mayar's will be the place to go! read more

I don't understand why this place has any stars. My first time coming here and last. I was told they had good lamb chops, no meat just bones. Then I ordered a wrap and lamb shank and this has to be the most disappointing and disgusting food I have ever ate. The oil they used for my wrap and fries was old. The lamb shank and rice was soggy, drenched in mazola oil or whatever low price oil that have back there. Kabuli style is supposed to have a different kind of oil/fat. What I was given was given was unedible. Pure waste of money and even though I barely took a bite of each, I threw up. This is not the first bad experience I have had. Before this my husband brought home a whole roasted chicken and to my horror it was raw on the inside! We tried to cook it inside the air fryer but it just wasn't appealing to us so we threw it all away. We try to want to like this place but after this last time I am done. Raw, uncooked, Old oil, too much oil and low quality meat (just go to Costco to get your lamb people). Because this is the only Halal place in town, we will try again. I hope the owner sees this review and makes the appropriate changes. If that happens, I will gladly change my review. read more

My favorite restaurant in Modesto, and quite possibly in the Central Valley. The meat is always so tender and top grade. I often come here throughout the week for take out and order the chicken thighs, chicken breast, lamb chops, and beef shami kabob. Everything I've ever ordered has been consistently delicious.
