After our local training place closed we were looking for other options and committed to positive reinforcement training. Unfortunately a lot of trainers use aversives, especially with large strong dogs. We were so excited to find Julia, and after our meet & greet we were confident she was a good choice. Julia did a 2 week board & train with our dog while we were traveling, mainly focusing on leash skills and practicing calm behavior around exciting things. We noticed an immediate improvement, but have also been continuing to work on the training at home after our follow up. I'm happy to report that we are continuing to see improvement using Julia's methods.

Rather than using tools that suppress behavior, my approach centers on changing how your dog feels, so they can move through the world with more confidence and less stress. I guide you step-by-step through real-life situations, helping your dog learn that you’re a safe, consistent source of support, especially when things feel overwhelming or uncertain. As an IAABC-ADT and Family Dog Mediator, I’m committed to ongoing education and science-based methods, so you always receive thoughtful, up-to-date guidance tailored to your individual dog. I have done their basic obedience classes, sports classes, one on one training advice and also their chaotic canine course for my reactive dog. All of my dogs that have attended classes here now have a stronger bond with me, listen great, and my reactive pup is leaps and bounds better than he was when we began. If you are looking to build a life-long bond with your dog through training and proper handling backed by real, current science, without using pain or negative training methods, and want to see positive and life-changing results, choose Happy Dog!

I've had great experiences with both Emma and Heather at the Happy Dog Institute…read more I've worked with Heather with a normal dog for Fun Foundations training. I gained a solid foundation with positive reinforcement training that set us up for success. I've also worked with Emma with a rescue dog who had major fear and aggression issues. I found Emma to be very knowledgeable and appreciated the advice and insight she gave us and the program she put us on. Don't expect them to train your dog for you, that's not something that any trainer can do unless you're prepared to essentially hire them as a part time employee for an extended period of time. Dog training takes time and consistency. Do expect them to set you up to be able to put in the time working with your dog, use positive reinforcement methods that are proven to help animal minds learn better than stressful punishment based methods (not to say I don't believe there's never a time to reprimand a dog for bad behavior, just saying reprimands don't help anyone learn good behavior which is the purpose of training) and answer your questions. I look forward to working with them in the future!

Gina graciously helped us through my dog's reactive behaviors and taught me how to better understand him. My dog had Parvo as a puppy and unfortunately became very reactive towards people and other dogs afterwards. Gina is extremely knowledgeable and she was very kind and patient with me and my pup. She truly has a way with dogs and can tell you everything just from their body language. I have recommended her to friends and family, and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a high quality trainer in the area. I recently went out of town for 4 days and was so thankful to board my dog with Gina because I was confident he would be well taken care of which allowed me to enjoy my vacation. She is patient. She listens. She is always willing to answer dog related questions (whether they are training related or not). She doesn't charge extra for sharing her advice and extensive experience regarding dogs. Tara genuinely cares about a dog's life and the quality. Several clients reached out to Tara after their dogs were critically ill and they weren't able to get seen at the Vets. Tara called all over Puget Sound to get the dogs checked in and get medical help. Tara knows dogs. She trains the owners as well. She helps dogs and owners succeed in getting their AKC certifications. I have personally seen shy dogs come out of their shells. I have seen nervous owners become so confident with themselves and their dogs. Many of these transformations happened within a few classes so it was amazing to watch it. But let me shine the spotlight on a true superstar of this pet haven: the fabulous Chris. Yes, you heard that right, *Female Chris*, the pet whisperer with a heart of gold! Every visit to this Petco is a delightful adventure, and I can always count on Chris to greet me with a smile and a wealth of knowledge that makes me feel like a pet-parenting pro. With three rambunctious pups, two bearded dragons, three sugar gliders, and a mini army of bristle nose plecos, I'm practically running a petting zoo! And every time I walk in, I have a million questions, each one met with Chris's patient guidance and enthusiasm. Recently, she opened my eyes to the wonders of female bettas! Who knew these beauties could coexist in harmony? Armed with this newfound knowledge, I swooped in and rescued a bunch of them from their tiny confines, creating a gorgeous underwater forest where they now flourish and dance among plants, bubbles, and the occasional pleco pal. Thank you, Chris, for turning my aquatic tank into such beauty! But wait, there's more! Chris tipped me off that Petco would happily take some of my bristle nose plecos off my hands. So, if anyone out there needs some stunning male or female plecos for their tank, I'm your gal! Either contact me, or they'll soon be at Petco. Who would have thought that this self-proclaimed "girly girl" would be raising roaches and mealworms? It's a wild world of pets, and Chris has been my guiding star through it all! And let's not forget the fantastic perks Petco offers, like their dog food loyalty program and the super handy app that makes coupon tracking a breeze. It's a treasure trove of deals for animal lovers! In conclusion, if you're in the Lacey area, do yourself a favor and visit Petco. Oh, and how about teaming up with the TooGoodToGo app for even more community-friendly deals? Imagine the possibilities! Thank you, Petco, for all that you do!
