It was Saturday evening and felt like going somewhere other than our home kitchen. Decided to find a restaurant on the North Shore to help support them. With all the storms and flooding near by this little tourist town has caused a slow down in business. Found this restaurant on Yelp and made a reservation online. Made the drive over, it's located in one of the areas with different businesses that is walkable. There is parking in lots around them. The place was smaller than we expected, had a relaxed comfortable charm. The weather was comfortable outside so we sat on the covered porch area on interesting heavy well made chairs. Arrived early so the place was relatively quiet Staff were very attentive. Their happy hour runs between 5 and 6, took advantage of the lower rate on two items. Husbands ordered the hamburger which was very juicy and had tasty add ons. It came with garlic fries that were delish. The Tapas we tried were the Spicy garlic shrimp on rice, roasted Brussel sprouts and cauliflower dish. I came here passing by, "Cholos" and didn't get to spend much time drinking the wine as when I arrived they were closing. Despite the time, we were able to get a seat and get a drink. Maya's is a nice little local wine & pupu establishment . Their "happy hour" menu is great but the portions are very small, so you need to order a few to share. I have enjoyed everything I've order and the burger is amazing! When seated outside, you're facing a fairly busy parking lot. But it's not a huge bother or distraction. Decided to get away from the chaos at Waikīkī and drive north to Haleiwa to grab some lunch. We stumbled upon the north shore marketplace and noticed this cute restaurant tucked away in a corner. As soon as we walked over, we were greeted by the hostess/server and were immediately seated. I ordered the coconut lemonade and veggie sandwich(minus the goat cheese) with garlic shoestring fries. My husband ordered the fresh catch of the day sandwich with salad & their house white wine. Everything tasted divine and so fresh! The combination of their overall kindness and great quality food makes this an exceptional place to come to. We decided to give this place a try for lunch. My friend had never been & im visiting so we went for it. We decided to order 2 different things so we could try both. Gyro - good flavor. Not greasy. Nothing to rave about BUT if you order this you won't be upset. I'd have it again. Classic Cheeseburger- great flavor. I really liked the bun. It was really soft and tasty. I think you'd be happy to order this. Fries are garlic fries but not dripping in garlic. It was a nice flavor and I felt like I could talk to people after! Parking - easy it's a big parking lot. Price - medium price. I'm on vacation so I expect to spend a certain amount on food. Service - our server was just lovely. She may have been an owner I didn't ask. Had an enjoyable evening out here with good food and good wine. Reservation-making was super easy online early in the week for 7pm on a Friday. They called to confirm that afternoon. We arrived a little early, but the table wasn't quite ready to turn so we browsed the art shop next door while we waited. We were seated and ordered a cocktail. They seem to be short on menus, so we had to share, but that wasn't an issue. We ordered lobster macaroni to start, i picked a couple tapas dishes and my dining partner chose an entree plate. They asked if they could just bring things out as they were ready and we had no problem with that. My Brussels sprouts came out first and they were the star of the evening. A little salty but absolutely delicious. The lobster macaroni had huge chunks of lobster. The night's special paella was available in two sizes. The saffron flavor really came through. I didn't love the clam but the mussel and shrimp were good. They have an interesting wine list with varieties and source regions not seen in many local restaurants. I opted for a Lebanese wine, which I'd never had before. It was a blend of mostly cabernet sauvignon, which is not my favorite, but it nicely stood up to the earthiness of my meal. Dessert was okay - they have two creme brulee options, which I ordinarily go for, but the banana empanadas just called my name. I hesitated long before giving three stars. I decided to come here after seeing the reviews for the happy hour. It seemed like a great way to try a bunch of items in the true nature of tapas. We ordered two items from the happy hour menu, the papas "fries" and the roasted cauliflower. We were going to order all the items, but I'm so glad we waited until one of the dishes arrived. I could not hide my shock. The papas "fries" came out and it was the most embarrassing thing I've seen served in a long time. The plate is tiny. Think tea cup plate. It was such a disappointment. I genuinely would be embarrassed to serve that, especially at the ripe price of $10. The cauliflower was really good, but again... I think we got two cauliflower pieces in total. This was also $10 dollars. I really wanted a comparison, so I ordered the papas bravas from the main menu. It was like ordering from a whole different restaurant. For $6 more dollars you get a much larger portion, actual goat cheese, chorizo, and cubed potatoes. The taste difference was also night and day. Happy hour menu feels like they're mad at you for even ordering off of it. I would have rather paid the extra for both of the larger portions than to pay more than half of the price for 1/3 of the food. This makes no sense. Just take the happy hour off. It is a genuine rip off and it gives this place a very bad look. All in all, I came excited and hungry. I left dissatisfied and still hungry. read more

Ambiance was cozy & service was excellent but the happy hour doesn't match with their website and their actual happy hour menu doesn't offer to many choices and the serving size is very small & so we ordered off their regular menu and $120 later we were still hungry. Their fall beer was interesting that it tasted like pumpkin pie rim with beer on tap. We went to Mayas several years ago and it was fantastic! The food, the service, the wine, everything. So we were really looking forward to our dinner tonight there now that we are back on Oahu. Unfortunately, the great experience was not repeated. The service was ok, but the food was average at best. We had the potatoes bravas, the lamb empanadas and the baked burrata. The latter was a gooey soup mess of cheese. The empanadas were nothing special. The potatoes were good. I had a sangria which was not that great and hubby had a glass of white. At the end of the meal, he asked to order a cup of coffee and guess what? They don't serve coffee. What??? They did have nice music going on. What did this all cost? $90.00 which included tip. IMHO, very over priced. Perhaps they are under new management or a new chef but we were pretty disappointed with the evening. read more

My friends and I decided to try this place for lunch after seeing all the glowing reviews, but our experience was the complete opposite. We arrived around 11:30 when the restaurant was almost empty (only two other guests), yet our server instantly had an attitude. One friend, who is pescatarian, ordered the mushroom flatbread. When it came out, she politely asked if there was meat on it. The server said no and tried to walk away, but another friend pointed out it looked like fried prosciutto. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, the server snatched the menu, highlighted the prosciutto, and said "someone else can eat it" before walking off. Absolutely unprofessional and rude. After that, they switched us to a new waitress, but things didn't improve. We had already given our orders and just asked to wait until the last person arrived before sending them in. The new server also had an attitude, insisting she "had nothing" and making us re-give everything. It felt like we were inconveniencing them just by being there. The food was just as disappointing completely average and nowhere near worth the hype. Between appetizers, drinks, and entrées, not one of us was impressed. In fact, our group chat immediately started joking about who picked this place. Overall, the service was rude, the food was mediocre, and the entire vibe screamed "tourist trap" (reminded us of Waikiki). Save yourself the time and money we will never be back read more

My best friend lives in Waialua so the girls make the trek out to Northshore to visit her. Mayas in one of our favorite places to eat at! Make reservations on open table so that you will get sat right away. We always go right at 5pm because that's when it opens and that's also Happy Hour! We usually order most of the happy hour specials and add their brussell sprouts and veggie flat bread (it's not on the menu so ask for it) we've always had friendly service and the food is perfect for sharing among friends. They have indoor and outdoor seating available and it's a popular place so remember to make reservations! There is something for everyone and if you are vegetarian there's a lot of yummy selections here as well. After dinner we walk next door and get Gelato for dessert. The menu is meticulously well thought out and the drinks complement everything so well. Sometimes I go north just to go to Maya's! As if having such delicious food wasn't enough. They clearly invest in properly training their staff every time I've been there service has been impeccable. Shout out to Aiden. I went with a friend for a birthday lunch, and it was nice! We shared between 2 of us the fried Brussels sprouts, fish tacos, and baked burrata with extra bread. All of the food was flavorful. I hear the Paella is delicious but sadly was not on the lunch menu. We headed back to the restaurant to take it home for dinner later, but unfortunately they do not offer carry out. Nothing special was added for my birthday but it was overall a really nice experience with delicious food, peaceful ambiance and friendly service. I already love the location, I saw an interview with the chef/owner once and he said he's a North Shore transplant and he wanted to give people something to come to after spending a day in the North Shore and not have to go to town or somewhere else and we NEED something like this. What we ordered: grilled octopus: cooked to perfect it's a great full bite, for us it did need some salt we ended up dipping it in the sauce from the patas bravas spicy chicken: very tasty but not spicy at all lol and i believe the puree that comes with the skewers might be the same or close to it as the one that comes with the octopus. cesar in madrid: we added the spanish anchovies which was a great choice. this was delicious no notes would definitely opt for this for any girl dinner special. lobster mac: also very good, chef also does not skimp on the lobster! can leave out the breadcrumb topping i know this is an elevation trend for upscale mac and cheeses i just never thought it needs it but that's just a personal preference. patatas bravas: without the goat cheese we are not a fan of goat cheese at all. these were so so so good and the first to come out of the tapas so it really set the tone for the night, neither my husband nor i could stop going back for more. Overall we both agreed we've found a true hidden gem. We got a table in 10 minutes. I wanna gatekeep this so bad, but I want it to stick around so I will be recommending it to everyone i know. Luckily they had an open table, But, we had to wait 15 minutes to space out time for our server. I'm glad this place does this. Keeps the integrity of service.. We ordered the Spanish Rose which was their take on the Old Fashioned... Very Yummy! I ordered the Stiegl Radler... Super Refreshing. Only had about less than 3% alcohol content. So, I kicked it up a notch with an IPA Wanderlust. We had the Lamb Empanadas and the Patatas Bravas.. Super Flavorful. The Lamb Empanadas had this sauce that was complimenting the whole dish. The Patatas Bravas Also went really well with my IPA Beer. I'm definitely coming back to try the other Tapas... I was too full to try anything else during this visit... Even after living in Hawaii for as long as I did and always passing by this place, this was my first time dining here. I will say that this place holds a special place in my heart now because my boyfriend, now fiancé, took me here right after he proposed to me on Sunset beach to discuss all the details and planning that went into his proposal. And I'm glad that the bread to marrow ratio was perfect because it normally isn't. We then ordered the scallop special and they were HUGE! It honestly tasted like an ocean marshmallow, not rubbery, seared perfectly, and just buttery. The grilled octopus was pretty good too, however I did find that some of it was a bit chewy. Lastly, we tried the potato bravas and it was honestly my favorite dish of the night, with the hamachi crudo coming in second. The potato's with the goat cheese was a perfect combination of flavor and I couldn't stop eating it. Overall, we enjoyed everything and all the food was just absolutely delicious.
