This was my second time here. I was excited to give it a second chance after my first, because that experience was horrible. So horrible my husband never wants to be back. But I'm focusing on this visit. The food was good. I came for appetizers and drinks. The blue crab dip was amazing, I was hungry and couldn't finish it all by myself. Would change nothing Service was okay. Downstairs the hostess was missing so I walked upstairs right in to an empty restaurant. Sat at the bar. Restaraunt wasn't crowded, it was a weekday before sunset. Wasn't greeted by anyone, service was mid. There was live music which was nice but the bar was facing away from him. I've tried their sister restaurant lilikoi also hoping for a better experience but I feel they lack quality interactions, servers are slow when coming around and lack experience when it comes to customer experience overall. I had to ask for my water, never got napkins, and was never checked on. My drink was a little strong but it was okay because she fixed it. After giving them three tries, I can't come back. Wouldn't recommend either. Especially being from the westside, I expected more, and gave them grace but was met with the same experience each time without any noticeable improvements. Management needs to work on server training, speed, customer interactions and better experience overall. It's not just the food that will keep someone returning, but how they're treated and its people. Please do better. read more

Great food but a little slow, no elevator ): Came here on a Thursday around noon with my family to try somewhere new. Unfortunately, they don't have an elevator, which was a little difficult for my grandmother who was with us. However, we were still able to make it up the stairs slowly but surely. It wasn't busy at all but there was only one waiter/bartender. He was very kind and efficient, but I could tell it was a lot for one person to wait on the whole restaurant! It meant ordering was a little slow, but understandably. The food itself was delicious! The burgers were amazing, honestly would be on a list of top five burgers on the island. The mauka to makai (half kalua pig, half poke) nachos were amazing. The won ton chips were to die for. We also grabbed a mini purse drink - which is definitely enough for two to share! My wife ordered the lanterns burger and I ordered the fish and chips and we both upgraded to the garlic fries which I highly recommend the upgrade. I've been here for drag brunch a few times and it's always a good time. There's a drag show going on so slower service isn't really minded. I decided to come here for my Mother's Day dinner. Reservation was for 4pm, they called at 3:30 to confirm our reservation (who confirms a reservation 30 minutes before??) We arrived at 3:50 and stood downstairs because our table wasn't ready. We were sat right next to the stage, like the speaker directly pointing at us, 3 feet away. Pretty sure there was no table, that's why it took 10 minutes to get the table ready...It was so loud, I couldn't have even have an in the ear conversation with my son. We sat for 20 minutes waiting for service. Nobody even came with water, I really think they had no idea we were over there. I saw the manager pointing to our table because she noticed we were just sitting there. Another table that had come in after us was having their order taken while we waited. Finally a server comes over, she takes our order but she was a little confused. I asked about the Mothers Day Specials on the Instagram and she said there weren't any. She was underage so couldn't recommend any of the cocktails, that's ok I remember being an underage server too; but it's always nice to have a recommendation. The manager came over after we put our order in and said she would cover the appetizer and dessert. I do appreciate that because there's some places that will stare you right in the face and not blink an eye about something like that. We got the calamari appetizer, there was more vegetable than calamari on the plate, like they were trying to disguise how much calamari there was by putting it on top, it didn't work. We got the prime rib and lobster tail with loaded mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese and sides. About 15 minutes after the server comes and says they ran out of mashed potatoes so we got another Mac and cheese. The prime rib was really good and so was the lobster tail. The Mac and cheese was ok, I really like my prime rib with some kind of potato . We got the bread pudding and lava cake for dessert. The bread pudding was really good, it came out so hot which is good because it was fresh. When they came to the table with our desserts the server said they were out of silverware and brought a plastic spoon. Honestly by the end of the meal it was kind of funny how unprepared they were. I felt kind of bad for the servers, they really seemed like they were trying their best. They just weren't ready at all for Mother's Day dinner. Maybe they didn't expect so many people to want to want to go, it was a busy day. But there's three sit down type restaurants in Waianae for lunch/dinner, they should have known. On the way out the host apologized because the server was new. Absolutely not! You don't put a brand new server on the floor on Mother's Day and then blame them for them being lost. We came with a party of 20 for my sister in-laws Birthday. Thankfully the wait was about 15 minutes to get the tables ready for us. The space is beautiful. Upstairs. The service was pretty quick. The only downfall was that two of the easiest dishes which were the loco moco and the Lilikoi chicken, we ordered those & they came out really late. Everyone was basically done eating by the time we got our food :/ The food: Sad to say, but almost everything we ordered was salty. The soup tonight was really salty, the Caesar salad was drowned with caesar sauce. The calamari was good, I just wished it was all calamari. The loco moco, the gravy was really salty. I couldn't even finish it. The lilikoi chicken was basically just bbq chicken & sauce. Not marinated. The prime rib was the best dish tonight. I was in Waianae with colleagues and we were looking for a good place for dinner. Lanterns was very close by and had good reviews. We pulled to restaurant and proceeded up the steps to the restaurant. The restaurant definitely gave you this is the neighborhood spot vibes. Friendly bartender and staff. You can't be in HI and not have a Blue Hawaiian so we all had one. It was very tasty. We followed that up with an order of seafood dip, which was fresh and hot. Baguettes were a great addition and made it easy to scoop up crab and dip. At this point, Karaoke has started, and the neighborhood is pour in. What a lively time. I then order Loco moco, medium-rare. They nailed the temp and flavors were spot on. The portion was so generous, I could barely finish it. This most recent visit was much improved from my first. It wasn't a weekend evening either which might be part of the reason. Kaimi's was our bartender and his service was amazing. It wasn't too busy and he was able to serve us with jokes and fun facts. It was a relaxing evening, which I really needed. My drink was so good. Lanterns has been on my "Must Check Out" list for quite some time, it did not disappoint! Immediately upon entering the hostess sets the tone for great service by being friendly and welcoming. This vibe from the staff continued throughout our visit from the server and food runner also. The place is located on level 2 and the decor is basic and gives bar vibes while still have some aesthetic touches to elevate the ambiance. Just what you'd want from a casual eatery. The live music was great, hope this is a nightly occurrence. Both cocktails we got were well-made. Sad note that the server promised the margarita would come in the glass "bag" container but sadly it did not despite the promise :( My bacon old fashioned was fantastic, weeks later, I am still craving another. For the food, everything was tasty. Think elevated Hawaiian bar food. The ahi tataki was a great portion and fresh! Mac n cheese, so cheesy and perfectly made. The truffle burger with wagyu beef also very good. After seeing another table enjoy the soup du jour (French onion), I ordered it. This was the only part of the experience that wasn't so great... our server forgot about it maybe or something but it took forever to come out and was lukewarm at best, still delicious flavor but could have been better and also if didn't have to hunt her down to remind her of the order as she did disappear for a bit around this time, luckily another server I flagged down was great and stepped in. We were seated in about 10 minutes, and everyone--from the hostess to our waiter, the bartender, and even the security guard--was so accommodating. The bartender made an amazing drink for me too! We stopped in after a day with our toes in the sand on the western shore. A great find and spot to watch sunset while dining. We tried the boozy bag which may be instagram worthy for some, but was really a more economical cocktail order as long as you can agree on the drink you would like. We popped in for a Sunday lunch after a recommendation from a server at a high-end restaurant we dined at early in the week. It is a favorite among locals. The stairs, the front of the building, and the restaurant floor could use a refresh. It is not appealing from the outside at all. Once seated, our server was very welcoming and efficient. We split the prime rib sandwich (think French dip) and also ordered calamari and fish and chips ( fish was ono). The food was solid. The cocktail we ordered, Pry for sex Chi-Chi, was really good. We've been ordering tropical cocktails all week at different spots, this one is definitely in the top three - refreshing, not too fruity, not too sweet, a good one for day drinking! To each his own, I was not impressed by the view. The ocean is right there, but telephone lines obstruct the view. But if you are in the neighborhood and passing by, it is a solid spot to stop for food and drinks. It is reasonably priced. Came here for a belated Valentine's Day dinner with my husband. Our reservation was at 5 but we got there at 4:30 and they were nice enough to seat us early. The restaurant is really cute and has a nice view of the beach so if you're here around sunset it's the perfect pau Hana spot. We ordered the crab artichoke dip which was really yummy but was served with tortilla chips instead of the crostini that's described on the menu. It was fine but I do think any changes should be mentioned by the server when ordering. We both ordered the ribeye. I got mine with broccolini, garlic mash and I added grilled onions. My husband ordered his with fries and upgraded to the truffle Mac and cheese. Our steaks were cooked perfectly medium rare and we were satisfied with our sides except the truffle Mac and cheese which was a miss, do not recommend. Overall I did like the food but not enough to overlook the fact that the service was subpar despite the restaurant being half empty. Someone dropped our waters when we first sat without a word and then we were not acknowledged until after 15 minutes of waiting when she asked if we were ready to order. Our drinks (soda & a beer) were not given to us until right before our food came. She also never checked on us or asked to refill our drinks until we asked for the check. If it were busy I definitely would have had more grace given it was a holiday weekend. But it was not so I most likely will not be returning. read more

I don't care what you say you're not gonna beat this place for prime rib on the west side of Oahu. Super cool staff parking is always good. Great Surf across the street and if you eat too much, they have the Medical Center you can go over and have your stomach pumped to come back and eat some more. It's just that damn good. Finally made it here and was blown away! The outside seems a bit unassuming, but once you're seated (upstairs) that's where this place shines. The decor is trendy, clean, and very aesthetic and perfect for taking photos (if you want). Staff were all very welcoming and apologetic of the wait since they were so busy, but we didn't mind. Now the food: we ordered the pupu steak, truffle burger, and ribeye. Happy to say all the meats were "medium rare" as requested. The vinegar dipping sauce for the steaks paired well and the size of the pupu steak could have easily been an entree (just add a side of white rice- which I did)! The burger was good, but the truffle fries were better! Without a doubt the star was the the Princess Kahanu drink. Sooooooooooo good! I ordered one then quickly ordered 3 more. Friday, 7/25/2025 - We saw this little restaurant on our way to our hotel and decided to stop and try "Laterns Restaurant and Tavern". Address is 87-064 Farrington Hwy 2nd Floor, Waianae, HI 96792. They are located right across from the beach. The restaurant is in the 2nd floor. When you walk up to the entrance on the 1st floor, there is someone sitting there ready to greet you and seat you. Upon arrival.... Pros 1) I didn't see a large parking lot. Only a little one right on the front. Maybe I missed it. But we got parking right away because we came fit an early dinner. 2) the hostess was very friendly and smiley. 3) I saw a tiny bar inside. 4) there is a stage, 2 mics, and our waitress told us they do karaoke Tuesday nights. 5) the lady at the bar told us the party starts at 6pm. 6) restaurant was tiny but cute. We sat inside. Water tasted good. 7) restaurant looked clean and tidy. 8) we had the Laterns Burger. It was really good. The burger was huge! At least to us. The fries with it was good too. We shared this plate between us two and it was just enough. 9) the poke nachos plate was delicious. 10) the fried fish tacos was ok. I didn't eat it. But my friend that ordered it only ate 1. He said it was just...meh. 11) the fish sandwich was good. It was eaten up. 12) then we ordered the cookie skillet with ice cream and cheesecake with strawberries, and both were good. 13) our server was really nice and patience with us. She made sure to check on us, refill our water cups, and clean up our table when she notice we were done eating. 14) she forgot my side order of the Okinawan sweet potato puree (it's purple). I want to try something different since I'm in Hawaii. I forgot about it too after our meal!! Lol. Then I remembered. I asked her to remove it off our bill since i never got to eat it. She was so sweet, she packed me a little to go, since she forgot about it. I can say I got to try it and i really liked it. But 2 of the other people with me didn't like it 15) bathroom is outside the restaurant. Women's bathroom was clean. Had 3 stalls one sink. Cons 1) parking lot is small. Wondering if there's stuff happening at 6pm, where would we park if it's lit. ;) 2) Conclusion I really liked this little place. The staffs were so nice here. Foods were great in my opinion. I'm not gonna lie, those boozy bags were definitely calling me out here. And know that if you want a non-alcoholic version, they're able to provide that to you; they charged me $32 for green river and it was so much liquid, we couldn't finish it all, between 2 people! There's live entertainment in the main restaurant (looks like they're able to seat large parties there). They also built a side room, that can fit another 30+ people or so, to which they also have a bar countertop, with a large TV that is streaming the live music from the main area. Attentive and accommodating service. I like that they support their community as much as they can by buying local ingredients and hiring local employees as well. It's a far drive out there, and so if they're able to keep the employees happy in one of the biggest restaurants in the area, more power to them! As for the food, local comfort foods at its finest. My only wish is that the loco moco patty had a little more flavor/seasoning and I definitely wanted more gravy to go over the patty. There was just a spoonful of gravy that barely covered the rice. And the poke on the nachos was overly salted for my liking. Other than that, we enjoyed the crab artichoke dip and the steaks cooked to perfection. We stayed nearby on the west coast of Oahu. Here are only a small handful of options for a nicer sit-down lunch or dinner. This is one of the best ones. We liked it so much we went once for lunch and once for dinner and enjoyed it both times. The staff here is great. Very friendly and attentive. They also have a fun and interesting house drinks menu. Ask for guidance and they'll land you right were you want to be. They sometimes have live music in the evening. They did when we had dinner. The musician was good. But the volume was a little too loud and we ended up moving to a table further back. Lastly, the tables by the windows offer a nice view of the ocean. The food is also very good. Fresh fish is all we ate while in Hawaii. This place offers fresh choices. I recommend checking out if you're in the area. read more

I really wanted to enjoy this restaurant, especially since it came highly recommended, but unfortunately the experience just didn't match the price. We spent about $100, but the quality felt more in line with something half that. I ordered the pork chop, and it came out undercooked. My other half ordered a ribeye medium-well, but it arrived more on the medium-rare side. Another in our group requested their meat well-done, and it also wasn't cooked through. It was a bit disappointing considering the price point and expectations. Our server was kind and offered to replace my dish, which I appreciated, but I chose to pass. Another lady, possibly the manager, came over afterward and asked who had ordered the pork chop. She asked me again if I wanted something else, but didn't really acknowledge the issue or offer an apology, which felt a little impersonal since I declined the first time. They did end up removing the pork chop from our bill, which I appreciated. The ambiance and service overall were fine, but the food and the way things were handled didn't quite measure up. This was my second time visiting this establishment and I do not believe I will revisit another time. The restaurant itself has a cute vibe inside, AC is great temperature, spacing between tables were great. Our waitress was so friendly and sweet. When we sat down it did take a long time until we were served water and was able to put in a drink order. We first ordered the Patron Tower, but after 15 mins we were told there was an ingredient unavailable and that would make the patron drinks not taste as well. We then decided to order the Booze bag, but after about 10mins we were told that an ingredient or mix for the drink we ordered in the booze bag was also unavailable. At that point 2 of the 4 in our party decided to not order drinks due to the frustration of already it being more than 30mins since we sat down and still no drinks available. I did end up ordering their espresso martini and I enjoyed that very much! The food we ordered was the Garlic Truffle Fries, Crab Artichoke Dip, Kalua & Poke Nachos, Salt & Vinegar Chicken Wings, Rockefeller Oysters (Local Style), and the Build Your Own Pasta. The Garlic Truffle Fries were okay, I did enjoy it with ketchup. The Crab Artichoke Dip had a great flavor and came out with crusty bread, this would be a reorder. The nachos were good, but for the half with the Kalua Pig the cheese was hard by the time we received our nachos. I would have preferred the nachos come out hot and the cheese still pull-able or stretchy when eating. The chicken wings had a good flavor. Rockefeller Oysters (Local Style) was by far my favorite thing ordered. The oysters were big and cooked to perfection; the oysters were also served hot and you could tell it wasn't sitting out before being brought to the table. The pasta was all Alfredo sauce and we each added our own things to it. My pasta was Alfredo sauce with shrimp and mushrooms. The sauce was okay, but I would have preferred more sauce the with amount of noodles and a thicker sauce. The amount of shrimp in my dish was good, but I would have preferred more mushrooms as I did not find much mushrooms. A piece of garlic bread was served with the pasta, which I would have preferred more toasted to how it came out. Overall, I do not recommend this place based off of wait times for drinks and food, pricing and quality of most of what was ordered, and the fact that all the drinks we originally tried to order was unavailable due to missing ingredients, which to be fair we gave four different drink orders that all was missing an ingredient. First time coming here as I've heard so many reviews about this place but i left pretty disappointed. I ordered the Ice pond cake drink in a mini bag and it was decent but when it came to the service it wasn't great, We were first greeted by one waitress that took our order and then another came to retake our order. I originally ordered the ribeye steak and my friend ordered the ny strip. i got the pupu steak which was an appetizer (it wasn't an issue i just asked for the sides separately) and it came out about 10 minutes before my friends entree. We did not get any utensils and the employee was no where to be found, I had to ask another waitress for it and it came out around the time my friend entree came out which was about 10 minutes, At that point my steak was cold, the waitress acted annoyed when i brought up my ordering wrong. Went in on a Monday night at 7pm, walked into the restaurant which only had 3 other party's. The workers were at the bar talking, back faced towards the door so we stood there and waited until someone noticed us. When we got seated I asked if there was a kids menu for my daughter (keiki eats for free on mondays) and they told me that they didn't know where all of the kid menu's went and didn't tell me what they have on the kids menu until I asked. Workers are friendly BUT they can definitely work on their customer service skills, our water cups were empty and always had to call them to get a refill, no one checked up on us, we were given our appetizers but no little plates to put it on. Again, we had to ask for it. We got chicken wings which were either burnt or their oil is old which is the reason for its dark color. Food was mid... Then at checkout we checked our receipt and noticed they didn't take off my daughter's meal for free keiki meals on Monday... We asked our waiter and he said he would ask someone about it. Mind you, I have been here before and have had him as my waiter before. There should be no excuse as to why he didn't know about it or had to ask someone because they've had this promotion going on for a while now... it was already weird that they somehow lost all of the kids menu, then didnt take my daughters meal off our bill and then having a waiter who's been there not know if kids eat free on mondays... Also, when we were trying to pay out our waiter just dropped off their credit card reader at our table and just walked off. We were trying to pay with cash. Took my sister out for her birthday and we wanted to try this place. Great service, beautiful restaurant, and the food was amazing! My sister and I shared a drink that was in a glass purse and it was the cutest thing ever! We also shared a prime rib plate that came with lobster tails, mashed potatoes, and broccolini. I arrived for my 7:15 pm reservation at 7:00 pm. The host was kind and let us know that it would probably be about a 25 minute wait to be seated, which was fine but they ended up seating us at 7:15pm which was awesome! The drinks were the highlight of the night. Everything we ordered from both the seasonal and regular menus was excellent. The service was pretty disappointing. We never received napkins or silverware at any point during dinner even though several people came by to drop off food or check on us. When I finally asked for chopsticks they only brought three for our party of four. Drinks took a while to arrive but they seemed busy so that part was understandable. The food was a bit hit or miss. The garlic fries were delicious and the poke nachos were great with light and crispy wonton chips. When the crab and artichoke dip came out they mentioned they had run out of crostini and were serving it with the same wonton chips instead. Normally that would be fine but the chips broke apart easily and made it frustrating to eat. Overall it was a mixed experience with great drinks and a few standout dishes but the service and small details need more attention to match the quality of the food and atmosphere. read more

We came to Lanterns for the Love Island watch party, and while our seating area didn't have the best view due to being blocked by other guests, our experience was still fantastic all thanks to our incredible server. She truly made the night. It was a full house and she was clearly juggling a lot, but still managed to be warm, attentive, and so genuinely kind. She thanked us multiple times for our patience, but honestly, we were the lucky ones it was obvious she was working nonstop and doing her absolute best. Her energy and attitude stood out and really set the tone for the evening. We tried the Green Lantern cocktail (so good!), the Lanterns Burger, and the Crispy Chicken Sandwich all delicious. But it was the service that made the whole night memorable. It's rare to be treated with that much care and positivity in a packed, high-energy environment.
