Tried Maybell's out today. Had the 2 meat plate (brisket and sausage for $15.95) with an added 1/2 rack of pork ribs ($12). Total with tip and one drink was $40. We split it. For the cost, portions are SUPER small. There was only 3 slices of brisket and one sliced sausage. The brisket was OK, the ribs were fall off the bone tender, but lacked flavor. The sausage was just that, plain sausage, not smoked at all. The best part was the beans. For us, we smoke our own meats and with my husband being from the south, we've had some LEGIT BBQ and this is just "California OK". If you are big into smoking your own meats or have ever had real southern BBQ, and you're OK with paying $30 for what's pictured, give them a try. I don't believe they can guarantee it (barely any restaurants can), but I talked with the owner and she personally went through all their ingredient used to make everything and just about every single item is gluten free. I came across Maybell and got the ribs, brisket, pulled pork, cole slaw, potato salad, beans. My aunt and uncle (picky eater) loved everything and ate Maybell leftovers for almost two weeks. My personal favorite is the brisket. Flavored and smoked perfectly. I could honestly eat a whole pound by myself in one sitting, it's embarrassingly disgraceful. I am actually salivating right now thinking about it. My second favorite is the ribs. The flavor is so good that I don't need to add the bbq sauce, but the bbq sauce is really good. This is real Texas BBQ, done the right way. The food is fantastic, but on top of that the owners and employees are genuinely nice. They are a super sweet couple with darling kids. And the employee that helped me last time was friendly and informative. I would recommend to come in earlier or order/reserve earlier in the day. I chose corn and coleslaw. Their brisket melted in my mouth like butter on a hot frying pan. I was going to ask for a knife but soon realized it was not needed! So tender and juicy .. I'm salivating right now thinking about it. I am not a fan of sauce on my bbq in general, so I liked that the sauce was on the side. I used it sparingly but it was def not needed on the brisket. The juices and tenderness of the brisket was good enough and didn't need a sauce. Coleslaw and their homemade pickles were aaamazing. Corn tasted like it was smoked and brings me back to backyard style home bbq. As far as price, I spent under what I would expect when I go out to eat at a bbq place plus tips. Finally Murrieta has an awesome BBQ spot. I've driven around to quite a few places in Murrieta, hemet trying out different bbq for an event I want catered. Maybells bbq blows them all away. I'm pretty picky on my bbq and it has that authentic strong bbq smoke flavor in their meat. Brisket was cooked perfectly, ribs were great and sausage on point. This places has a lot of potential to grow. I'd train your staff upfront to be nicer and learn to talk to people. They can kill your business as they're the front line. You guys have to dial in your marketing and menus. I asked for a catering menu and the girl at the front just said we don't have one. Our prices are up on the board. Not very helpful at all, as I'm trying to book for a party. I'll call back to talk to the owner for the order. lol I didn't want to waste both our time. I still rate this place 5 stars. Stopped in for a sandwich as I had a real hankering for some BBQ (first time in). This is not a "sandwich" shop, but I grade all BBQ joints on how well they do their meats between buns. So I had the pulled pork with a side of beans - it was very, very good! I could've made a meal of the beans themselves. My only criticism is that my bill for a sandwich, 1-side and a drink, was over $15. I just can't do that. Everyone in our family was tired of the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. But we all love BBQ, especially Texas BBQ. Mom wanted to try this place because the other place they went to was too sweet and just kinda okay. I wanted to try this place because they are Texas style (even though different parts of Texas has different BBQ). The family that owns this place are so super nice and friendly and really made me feel welcomed and not just like another order. Typically when I get BBQ there is always something that I don't particularly care for, but not this time. Everything was great and flavorful! And the sauce wasn't served cold! We got brisket (moist and dry), pulled pork, sausage links, potato salad, sweet corn, and brisket beans. It was all delicious. Even my Mom ate more than usual and she is a real picky eater. I also love that they offer white bread and pickles on the side...as it should be! Warning, the sauce has a slight kick to it, but it's comes on the side with Togo's and you don't even need it. My friend and I were craving brisket so we decided on this after seeing the great reviews. Great hospitality right off the bat. The brisket is some of the best I have had in a while, you know it is good when the meat tastes so good you forget to use sauce. Pulled pork was also packed with flavor. We loved the food so much we decided to try some ribs before leaving and it was more of the same delicious song haha. They serve stubborn soda at the fountain which is a huge plus as well.
