A lot of what I learned here I use at my current job. Mr.Borja is a great instructor try to learn as much as you can and don't give up it is worth it in the end. Be careful becoming a student here they will accept anyone just to take ur money and the federal aid I have been told that they only care about you for the first 3/4 months cause the money is not guaranteed to them until after that. Potentially Illegal and certainly /clearly unethical Educational/Business Practices. I was lead to believe I would get certified as a Medical Billing & Coding Specialist - Was told it is actually Medical Front Office (administration) Certificate and was informed after federal loan payments were disbursed and collected by Mayfield. - False advertising - advertised for certifications never authorized by state or licensed to offer. (Billing & Coding Cert.) They did a Bait and Switch but not disclosed until after loan payments disbursed that was not the degree I was getting. (Documentation to confirm this) They changed the website after I complained. - Zero class instruction - instructor sat on her i-phone the whole time and gossiped with students about other students and staff. Was not knowledgable of course material or modern medical office practices. Was constantly incorrect and corrected. - Instructor coached and allowed students to change test answers so they could get higher scores and achieve honor roll which boosts chance at more desired externship sites and opportunity for employment. Instructors and Career Service Depts. worked together to present clients (hospitals, dr. offices, etc.) with students with falsified credentials (grades/abilities) who then got hired. - Extra credit (2 points) were offered during tests and at other random times if students gave good reviews on social media like Yelp, FaceBook and Google. Some reviews are still up, most took them down after getting credit. Scroll through and see. Also see how they got positive reviews flooded in after my review, and other negative reviews. - Nearly all of the school books and materials provided were out of date. Some books were 3-7 years old and one was 10 years old and not even used in modern medical facilities. During 3 Modules we were given chapters printed from a book off the internet (pirated) and not purchased through publisher. I still have exactly what was provided for books and materials. Photocopies of books! - After I sent a notice to management regarding the instructors conduct, she was terminated, as well, the Director of Education had resigned or was also termed, depending on who you speak to. ?? - This place is a scam and the "education" you receive is not worth the money spent. The curriculum lacked substance and applicable knowledge when it came time for the externship. The certification has not proven to be an asset and has not helped me to gain employment in the industry. Those who were getting jobs at the time were at $12 an hour, hardly a living wage with enough to cover the cost of the program. - Because I made the complaints I did, people turned on me and tried to demonize me and make me out to the be the "bad guy". This was a quick switch because during my entire time there, up until the day my externship was to officially start, I had always been told how professional I was, I always achieved honor roll, (without changing answers or taking extra credit), my attendance was near perfect (3 days out of 11 months, excused absences), always on time (which means 15 minutes early), groomed and in uniform, ready for the day. I was used as an example for others during group presentations held by Career Services noting I was one of their "Rock Stars"/top MFOA-BC students. -They have not taken responsibility for their poor education or inability to follow through and provide what was told. I used all my money to put my self up for a year to go to their program and received basically nothing from them. The certificate is not what I was initially told and I was not placed in a useful externship. - After an externship with Eisenhower Urgent Care was sabotaged by Career Services staff sending me to wrong address for interview and the Eisenhower Supervisor I was to extern with was friends with my instructor who was fired just days before. Well, she cancelled my announced externship that had been offered/paperwork completed and I went through a physical and drug screen etc. for. She did this clearly on purpose and with no just reasoning. So, instead, my externship was done at an insurance company working for their marketing department. Not doing work related to medial office administration and certainly not Billing & Coding that I was continuously told I was going to be placed in. Externship was useless to me and was basically free labor for people the Career Services Dept. partnered with. Thats not quality, nor integrity. -They are not even accredited by any medical associations etc in the state of CA. They seem to have accreditation via membership type company in Georgia. Research them. - Admissions, Career Services Dept. and Instructors were dishonest. False and empty promises non stop. Leaving me stuck with bill to pay to feds and no education or experience that aids in employment with. They claim to help or want to help, yet never follow through or communicate. when i first started, i had the most anxiety u can imagine... from going through the drama between students, not wanting to go back, having to learn everything about the medical field. ms anel nd ms brook, have the most kindest souls nd they always wanted the best for me, they never judged, and were always there when i needed them.. having instructors like these really makes a difference in ones life, i learned to love the medical field because the patience they had for me taught me that i can do all things, nd helped me gain so much confidence throughout these 9 months i will forever be thankful for them!! My son was a student at Mayfield and the false accusation that you are making are very upsetting and its very coward of you, that you have to change your name and for you to not be known in order to post that disgusting review. i understand we all have our opinions but you can not say something negative that is False!! I am very thankful with the school and specially with Monica because thanks to her my son has an amazing job that he loves. She always showed compassion to my son and making him feel confident on what he was doing. She never gave up on him and until this day when he needs advice, like professional advice she is always responding to calls and text messages. Its also very unprofessional to show to a meet and greet or to an interview with nappy hair or nasty looking nails. When you say she would judge of how people are dressed that's not even true, because she is setting every student for success and trust me i was in the office a lot. She never spoke to a coworker in bad terms, she is always very positive and loving with students and staff. Overall my experience at Mayfield was good. From the time I first walked in until the day I graduated, I really enjoyed everything. Staff was always very helpful. My teacher was there for me. My only issue (and why I am giving 3 stars instead of 5) was with the career services director. Multiple times I would go up there for help, and she was always gone. Even the few times I actually scheduled an appointment with her, it would always get rescheduled, or I would show up and was told she was out to lunch, sometimes for hours and hours at a time. That was my only frustration. Other than that, I would definitely recommend Mayfield. read more

I was part of the HVAC program and it was amazing. The instructors I had (Mitch and Steve) were very knowledgable and did everything in their power to prepare their students for a career in this line of work. They were professional and also made coming to school a fun experience for everyone. As far as the career center goes, don't believe everything they tell you. I was told that once you graduate they will still help you with any work related needs you might have in the future. I called my counselor and asked to add something to my resume for me which maybe would of taken 5 minutes at the most (they do your resume that's part of the tuition) and she told me okay. I never received the resume and she would not return my emails or my calls. Before this she would call and ask how I was doing at my new job every 2-3 months but since then I have not heard from her at all kind of shady if you ask me. I am a mother of a student there atMayfield college and I am extremely disappointed in the treatment of her and the inappropriate behavior of the "Director" of this school. Numerous times my child had had her appointments rescheduled. She has come home and stated so many things that go on there that I find absolutely disturbing. I do not find it appropriate for the director to talk about her sexual relations with her husband in front of students n staff. I don't find some of her comments made to be appropriate either. It is highly disgusting and disturbing that this is who my child has to look forward to meeting & dealing with throughout her time at mayfield college. She has also brought it to my attention that there are several other students whom attend mayfield & stated that you must "kiss ass" in order to get on the directors good side. That she has her favorites that she gossips and is best not to get too personal with her because she will use that against you. How are students suppose to feel welcomed and secured in their academics if they're constantly worried about the director. My daughter literally stated that they do not respect the instructor but only tolerate her and to me that is extremely Sad! Mayfield College needs to wake up and correct it's issues and take these concerns seriously because if my child is paying $15,000 in her education I'll be damned if she's going to continue to deal with a director who half asses her duties & abuses her title. My child even stated that she was rescheduled once due to the director being out on an appt. and later found out that appointment was her getting her nails done. Or even on another occasion her hair!!! So that's what mayfield is doing? Rescheduling student appointments for personal beauty care on company time? Ridiculous and out right joke if you ask me! I see someone is defending this so call director I will be contacting the state and I hope Whoever is showing this type of acceptance on the way this school going shows up and speaks there aswell very unacceptable! When I first attended the school my sister was the one who got me into it I was at a point in my life where I wanted something better for myself and my sister said that this could be that door to open a better life for myself so I started school I gave it my all I was an honor roll student when I first attended I had a teacher who was very disrespectful to me when I never once disrespected her thankfully she left the school I don't know the reason why maybe she just couldn't handle whatever was going on at the time but I was so grateful when she left because now I thought like there was nothing holding me back and the new teacher that came in her place was Mrs. Julie and I was so grateful when she came in she went above and beyond for me helping me understand what it means to be a medical assistant by the time I got to my externship some things were happening at home that left me unfocused I felt like Michelle who was the Externship supervisor I'm not sure of her exact title but she was the one I would speak to on my sites but again I was going through things at home with family and I needed to take time and I felt like Monica who is the director of the school in medical was very rude she did not talk to me professionally she put me down she made me feel unworthy she left me hating myself for what I was going through and I know that I should never let anyone impact me like that but at the time I was weak minded I felt helpless because she was the director and she already had her opinion about me I felt like she didn't care where I ended up like she just didn't want to waste her time on me anymore and that really hurt me and made me feel like I couldn't do nothing I felt so vulnerable I felt like I could never returne I also heard from several other people that she would talk down on me and my weight as well as talking down on others when she would talk to me she would be unprofessional saying things like she doesn't play that she doesn't deal with no one's bullshit when sometimes we're faced with obstacles we can't help but have to go through I hope that something can be done about this because I would never wish this upon anyone to be at such a low point in life when you feel like you're at your peak and somebody just drops you down even more than what you already are. The sad part is I wish I could return I wish that I had that support from the director and her employees but I feel like she threatens people and wave their job around making people feel helpless and unworthy. I am at a better place in my life I am proud to say that I have overcome a very dark place that I found myself in I just wish that I would've had that support. PLEASE take the time to read this. I was a student of the MA program. I was a good student who made it through with honors roll & perfect attendance every MOD. I could tell you how they not only lied on countless occasions & were of no support, but those were not the biggest problems. My teacher who was highly inappropriate & unprofessional regularly threatened her students & discriminated against them. Yes. But as long as I got a good education & job in the end I didn't care. Well I can tell you that did not happen. The only education I received was because of my own dedication to learning. I tutored students in my class everyday because they needed that much help that the teacher was not giving them. The teacher used my answers (unchecked) as the answer keys to tests because she was lazy. If she couldn't remember the information, she asked me. But if I ever said I didn't have time to grade her own papers or to help the other students she would threaten to drop my grades. So I spent hours doing her job for her. I was not the only victim. That teacher was fired after multiple statements being taken in, including my own. We thought the struggle was finally over. No. Now we had to deal with the main office and the director. (Who has been named in several other comments.) -- Appointments never kept. Job opportunities, lost. Being shamed, yes. Being intimated, yes. Being lied to, absolutely. I could write all day about exactly what happened & you would be speechless. All I can say is PLEASE out of your own concern. Do not attend this school. Do not listen to them. Coming into this school I thought it was going to be great . My first three months were great and then they let go of our teacher and we got a new one . This new teacher didn't teach at most of the time . She was always on her phone and she spoke a different language so we didn't know who or what she was saying . I've seen many reviews taking about career services and let me tell you . It was full of gossip inside and to be honest I was intimidated-to go inside many times . If you scheduled a appt they always made you wait . One time I scheduled my 1st appointment with Monica and was there 5 min before . I checked in and next thing you know a group of girls from downstairs walk into her office and we're inside for good while . HELLO ... I can hear y'all laughing and being loud but whatever I ignored it . Also people kissed up to anyone on Career service just so they can land their dream externship site so they can potentially get hired . She was popular in the school . But what I started to notice that all they cared about was looks and attitudes . Yeah I know Some of us may not wear makeup and look pretty but Were smart But for them that seemed like it didn't matter . It wasnt racism but discrimination against certain people and the way they look. I'm sorry Im not light skin , skinny and have a full face of makeup . Also when she met with all classes and called us out in front of everyone it was kind of rude . She called out people for having that "Foochi-Face" look . Some of the mods that we were taught seemed old school and I know this because I asked a few friends and they said they also learned that ( they went to mayfield around early 2000s) . Once I had finished my externship I had mentioned to her that I didn't have a car and that my transportation at the time was the bus it was like they didn't want to help me find a job. A 15-20minutes drive to school is like a 45 min - 1 hour on the bus ( I took 2 buses in order to get to school ) . read more
