This is such a cool speakeasy. Stopped in on a Friday night with my spouse. It was the perfect date night destination and easier to get a table for two. The drinks were exceptional and it was easy to talk over the music. Larger groups were there but likely needed to get there early. Look for the red light over an unmarked door for the entrance.

    Shhhhh. Don't tell.

Very dark. Very incognito. Very fun. Don't blink and miss it. Our bartender was also the server. Interesting and varied excellent drinks and vibe.

The Evening Citizen is everything a speakeasy should be. The entrance is unmarked, it is dim and cozy, has a great vibe, and has excellent cocktails. A server at another bar the night before mentioned a few other places we might enjoy while in town and this was one of them. Even with the address in hand, we had to ask the host at one of the nearby restaurants exactly where it was. Upon entering, it is dimly lit, with a blacked out ceiling and small black and white tiles on the floor, You immediately see a very classy-looking bar with a black marble top, dark shelves with liquor bottles illuminated from below, and a striking portrait of German actor Udo Kier which adds an element of mystique. Everything is immersive and adds to the vibe, including the dark, patterned velvet wallpaper. There is even a fireplace near the entrance. There was background music playing that totally fit the room. We sat at one of the two seat tables against the wall behind the bar which have a small dim lamp. Another distinctive speakeasy element is that the menu is in the format of a multi-page newspaper with the cocktails spread out through the pages among stories and fake advertisements. You might find the menu on their website if you click around the right places. I started out with a 20th Century, very similar to a Corpse Reviver 2 but with crème de cacao as one of the ingredients. It was a totally amazing drink with a subtle taste of chocolate on the front end with the drinks classic citrusy botanical notes. She started out with a Mary Pickford, a more sweet and fruity cocktail but very well balanced. We already had drinks before coming here but could not resist sharing one more so we ordered a Consenting Adulterer. It was a great finishing vodka drink that was bright and refreshing. The menu also has a fun crossword puzzle on one of the pages, and we enjoyed doing it verbally while indulging in our drinks. Even the single-person restroom is somewhat dim, has lit candles, and has a classy ambiance of its own. I saw something in this bathroom that I have never seen at any other bar. On the way out, on the back of the door there is a sign that basically states "If you think your drink may have been tampered with, please ask a bartender for a test". I thought that was incredibly thoughtful and I wish every bar did that. We visited on a weeknight and there was one gentleman running the whole place by himself. When we sat down, he initially greeted us very timely and paced our visit perfectly. The cocktails were made to perfection and he kept our water topped off. Bravo to the one man show. The Evening Citizen is a must-visit establishment. A+++

Love the ambience and the drinks. I had the chi chi and my friend had another signature drinks from their menu. Looks like they were understaffed as it took a half hour to get our drinks. We wanted to order another however decided after an hour we needed to pay the bill and move on. They need more bartenders or possibly a bar back as the bartender was alone. He had to seat people, make the drinks, clear the drinks and do all of the transactions. Hoping they hire more staff to help him out.

The ambience is amazing. It's like walking back in time. They serve awesome cocktails, classic with lots of spirits and deliciousness.

This little gem of an establishment was the highlight of our visit! Very friendly service and delicious expresso martinis. What more could you ask for? Very posh & intimate ambiance inside, it makes great for a first date.

We decided to try this unique speakeasy right on Arenas, well actually behind between the red lights. Beautiful retro bar with great cocktails and impeccable service. Really enjoyed the time here and will be back with visiting friends from now on. Note, not easy to find and parking is tough on weekends.

First rule of Evening Citizen is that we DO NOT TALK ABOUT EVENING CITIZEN. The coolest speakeasy is also the hardest one to find. And we like it like that. Keeps the mystique going. It's a bit hard to find and scary to walk in, but once you do, you're transported back to the 1920s. Its ambiance is... like none other. Dark... a bit dangerous feeling. Like you're gonna get in trouble for being there. Don't worry.. the drinks are top notch, the staff are incredible and you're in no danger at all. But you can pretend you are if you'd like. Dress up a bit. Get adventurous with your drink order. Ask them for a recommendation or choose from their newspaper menu. But remember... WE DO NOT TELL JUST ANYONE ABOUT EVENING CITIZEN.

I've been looking for a cocktail bar exactly like this in Palm Springs for a long time: quiet, elegant but still casual, with creative, well-crafted drinks and friendly service. Evening Citizen checks every box. In true speakeasy fashion, I literally walked right past it for a year without realizing it was there. Now that I've finally found it, part of me doesn't want anyone else to know so I can keep it as my little secret. But it's too good not to share.

True speakeasy vibes. Great service. Delicious cocktails. So glad we found this gem during our staycation.

Passion fruit pisco sour was my favorite!

The drinks here are fantastic! Some of my favorite that I enjoyed during my trip to Palm Springs. It was fun that the menu was presented in a news paper to read and discover. The only downside was that it's hard for me to enjoy atmospheres that are dark with loud playing music but that's my personal preference and keeping in my that this is a speakeasy.

If you didn't know better you'd think you were in LA in the summer, excepty for the bocce ball. They have an excellent selection of spirits, cocktails. Maybe a little varied, but decently creative. The only thing that gets me is pricing. Sure you pay for everything for decor, glassware and not just spritis, but I recall wondering how they price their drinks becuase not everything is equal or standard mark up when some things aren't house made it's easy to cost out becuase you stop paying for creativity after a certain point. It feels like they took alot of Mr. Lyons business model and use that for pricing rather than a sole entity with their own margins. The service makes up for it, the ambiance makes up for it. The crowd makes up for it. Far less wrinkled and aging snowbirds and retirees circling the drain in their waning days. People dressing up and celebrating, genuine convivialness abounds with most guests. It's not somewhere else trying bring that vibe here, it's pretty authentic. It's separate from nextdoor other than shared bathrooms, so don't be surprised when you feel like your in a different world. Most people who wander between the 2 take pause and awe for a few seconds before their mood shifts to match the room. Not a place to get sloppy and party that way unless it's a closed event. Even with the mister and some of the shade, it was still pretty hot out so we opted for the patio section by the restaurant. We've never seen this menu so it was new to us. Honestly wanted their brunch menu but it was too late. The waitress working was basically doing everything as she was the only one on deck. Hostess, waitress and bartender. It did start to pick up while we were there. Drink wise, one of their Bloody Mary which comes with a slice of bacon and their lemon drop. Both very tasty. Food, an order of the ahi tuna salad. Seared tuna on top of mixed greens with crunchy onion, tomatoes, avocados and a really delicious ginger dressing. Quite tasty. The beet salad with added chicken. The lady at the door told us inside would probably be loud because there were two bigger tables in there. It was hot outside, so we decided to sit inside anyway. We almost immediately regretted that and wished we'd sat outside. This place is not made for being busy on the inside. It's just too loud. But, cute in there. Our server, who we later learned was the bartender and not a usual server, took our drink orders. A few of us ordered the Hugo spritz, one gal got a beer, and a few other cocktails were ordered. We got our drinks and they were enjoyable. The problem began when we were ordering food. One girl in our group is Celiac and literally can not eat gluten. She ordered the salmon and asked to be sure the potato salad was gluten free. If things are fried or prepared in the same place as gluten objects, she is incredibly ill for weeks afterwards. She has to be super careful. His response was, "I think so." She told him she was celiac and had a true gluten allergy, and she needed him to be sure. Meanwhile, the menu boasts about how they proudly serve gluten free options right on the bottom. He then said, "yeah, I'm pretty sure it is." He genuinely did not seem concerned. She ended up ordering it but felt uncomfortable about whether or not it was really safe for her. Another girl at the end of the table asked him to please double check, as it was really a serious allergy. He said, "Yeah I am going to ask the chef. I wasn't going to just ignore it and make all you girls mad." He had the snarkiest tone when he said it, and it was incredibly, incredibly rude. That right there gave us a bad taste in our mouths. He came back out and said he checked with the chef, and it was indeed gluten free. Food came out and all tasted good. But when a restaurant prides itself on gluten free options, and then makes it so hard to order, it's not a good look. We wouldn't be back.

We happened to be a bit early since he had not been able to finish setting up shop yet. We went ahead and waited until he was ready without rushing him because we ourselves weren't in any rush at all. Surrounded by a ton of nice interesting artwork, it was a pure joy to enjoy a drink or two in this environment. The bar can be found at the corner on the other side of the hotel concierge in plain sight from such a big space for a lobby, directly left upon entrance through the front. Since it was slow in the morning, we were able to chat it up with the bartender and even explore a bit of experimentation in the form of a particular top secret cocktail that every mixologist knows.
