    Tuna Salad

One of my most trusted stops when I'm on the North Side. A very cute market with high quality breads and pantry essentials. I always get tuna salad on a sandwich (not on menu) and the homemade bagels are extremely good.

This hidden gem in the Northside (Mexican War Streets) puts out the best bang for your buck breakfast sandwiches around the City. They offer 3 varieties and all 3 are great. The sausage one is so tasty and definitely my favorite with the spicy mayo. They also serve other sandwiches, soup, and coffee. They carry various local grocery items. Mayfly Market and Deli is LGBTQ+ friendly too. Worth a stop if close to the area!

Whenever I find myself in the Mexican War Streets neighborhood of the Northside during its business hours, I always want to stop in at this charming speciality gourmet food and deli neighborhood market. I can hardly wait for the chance to order a lunch to-go from the deli. It carries so many locally made products (Leona Ice cream, Pittsburgh Pickle Co, Tabbara Chocolates as examples), I get to support multiple local businesses inside one local business!

The market is still as charming as ever. A lot more items have been added since my last visit. No MTO sandwiches for lunch on Mondays only breakfast. I decided to try one of their deli sandwiches (grab N Go) Turkey, arugula, Swiss and apricot jam! Very delicious! of course the sandwiches appear to be fresh, but it would be great if the date was on the label so you knew when they were made.

We were on foot nearby when we were seeking out a snack and stumbled into Mayfly. I got huge neighborhood bodega vibes (filling an important niche for surrounding neighborhood) while still being upscale and stylish. If we lived nearby, I could see us popping in here regularly to get provisions, snacks, and other necessities to make dinner. We ended up just grabbing a bougie drink from the cooler and a cookie but were happy we stopped in. The inside has a beautiful ceiling (weird observation but it stood out), was neatly organized and they were even serving various ice creams by the scoop. It had a bright, homey vibe the moment you walked in. What a cute addition to the neighborhood! Highly recommend.

Deli and gourmet food market with flair. It may be somewhat small inside, but there is lots of everything I want. Most of the produce is sourced from local farms. But best of all, they carry Brothmonger Soup. I've been a fan of the Brothmonger for a couple years, and I was delighted to find it here. Great ice cream and fresh bread. Everything to keep you coming back.

Need a quick late afternoon bite? Hit up Mayfly. The deli was closed when we popped here. Chatted up the owner for her choice placed to hit up in Pittsburgh. We grabbed the last turkey garb and go sandwich and macaroni salad. The sandwich was divine! The apricot jam added acidity bright flavor. The macaroni salad was solid, needed a touch of salt. I was impressed by the giant cookies and the variety of goods in the store. Wished we would have gotten there before the deli closed.

A small grocery store in the Mexican War Street area on the North Side. They offer fresh sandwiches, some groceries, and their homemade Sorbet. We tried their banana foster sorbet, and it was very good. The service was very friendly. It is worth a try if you are in the area.

Mayfly is my favorite place in the Northside! Their deli makes fresh, delicious, and unique sandwiches and soups - I've never tried one that wasn't great. I also love to shop in the market when I need to pick up a couple of things during the week. Mayfly sells products from a lot of great local businesses like Pane e Pronto and Leona's, and there's always something new to try. The staff is always super friendly as well and it just makes me really happy fo support this little neighborhood spot. Highly recommend!

Cute little corner store. You can buy groceries here, but I came for lunch to take away. Had yummy chocolate sorbet in a cup, a hearty chicken salad sandwich from the fridge, and took a tub of smashed chickpea salad for a gluten-free picnic with friends later. All delicious, and the owner is so nice!

Fun neighborhood market. We were out adventuring and it looked interesting so we stopped by. We picked up some great bread to take home.

It was recently renovated just in time for the NFL Draft to allow more accessibility and better space for events. In the public area, there are some tables and chairs to sit and enjoy the area. They also seem to plan to have a lot more semi-permenant attractions in the space. Currently their is a roller rink (which is surprisingly affordably priced) . It has historically been home to the Holiday Market (which was moved into the theater area this year because of the construction). I hope the market does move back because Market Square was definitely the better space for it. There is plenty of parking nearby in garages, surface lots and street parking. The one downside is that it is really tough to drive through, especially with the way the renovated it. Drivers seem to be stopping to take in the new look or don't understand directional signage so there is often traffic backups.

Shelves are lined with canned goods, fresh ingredients stored in baskets to buy by the pound, and for some reason branded tourist soap bars. For the Food Tour, we were treated to the fresh hummus and pita. The hummus was very fresh - the owner even discussed how he made it over the last evening, but the pita was extremely dry and flavorless. He was clearly a true chef and creates amazing cuisines. So it is very disappointing that the store has to morph into a touristy shop. The hookah and culture items make sense somewhat, but the Harry Potter and Star Wars themed soap bars just seem like a gimmick that takes away from the true essence of the store. If you like hummus, you should definitely grab a container of the fresh made. But honestly, I doubt many people stop here based on the appearance.
