I live a pretty active life in San Diego, like so many of the city's patrons, but sometimes all the fun comes at a cost. For me, it's my hamstrings -- I feel constantly plagued by what I've self-diagnosed as High Hamstring Tendinopathy (HHT), as well as some intermittent sciatica. My ability to stretch my hamstrings on my own has been greatly reduced in the last year, a significant impediment to my yoga practice and running routine. When the HHT is really acting up running and even basic leg movements become significantly distressful. I've had amazing relief from going to Mayo Chiropractic. Skyler (office manager) is a real joy and makes the office environment comfortable and laid back. She's a wealth of knowledge about pretty much anything and she has an uncanny ability to do an intense adjustment with the most subtle and non-jarring technique I've ever experienced. Dr. Emily is by far the most gifted and knowledgable chiropractor I've ever visited. Whether your musculoskeletal issues come from a particular injury or simply the challenges of modern daily life, she can help you. Having come highly recommended by my physical massage therapist, I scheduled a visit. She was very warm and welcoming, putting me right at ease in her cozy and comfortable office. I told her upfront I was somewhat skeptical of chiropractors, because what they do can seem somewhat unorthodox and not science-based. She said she would be glad to prove it was all logical and based on facts. She had me raise my arm as high as possible, did a quick shoulder adjustment and massage, then raise my shoulder again. It went 50% higher than before! She said it's simple: misalignment pinches nerves, causing restricted movement and pain. I was a believer. I signed up for weekly visits. They were short and sweet, always helping with whatever problems I was having. I'd come in, she'd ask how I was doing, I'd mention a specific area that was stiff and/or painful, I'd lay down, she'd move my legs and press my heels a few times, do some adjustments, and I'd feel better right away. I was extremely pleased with the results and continued seeing her. If something came up between visits she'd always find a way to see me sooner and help me out. Now all this alone made seeing her a no-brainer. Yet she started helping me with something that took her value to another whole different level: prevention. She not only helped me with symptoms, but started educating me about the causes, and how to avoid them in the first place! This is where her extensive knowledge and experience make her truly exceptional. The most recent improvement if my lifestyle among many that she's helped me with is sleeping posture. A significant source of my neck pain came from my neck being angled improperly whlie sleeping. She helped me with finding the right pillow(s), sleeping on my back vs side or front, etc. This has helped accelerate my neck pain relief significantly. She gave me stretches to lessen pain and stiffness that I do at home on my own. This turned our relationship into a parternership, giving me control over my rate of improvement. This was tremendously empowering. I've been seeing her for over a year now. My lower back rarely if ever hurts, which in itself is a minor miracle. Plus my posture has improved so much I've literally gotten two inches taller! Dr Emily is amazing! I first saw her when I was about 20 weeks pregnant and suffering from debilitating migraines. Wanting to avoid pain medication during my pregnancy, I was eager to find a more natural way to resolve. A friend suggested chiropractic treatment, and it worked! I ended up seeing her weekly for the duration of my pregnancy and credit her with the fact that I had minimal back pain and overall discomfort the whole time! When our little one was born, he had torticollis which made breastfeeding very challenging (among other things). When I got pregnant I planned a totally natural birth and so I wanted to keep my body well aligned throughout the pregnancy to avoid any requirement for intervention later on. I was really comfortable getting treatment from Emily when pregnant because she is so gentle with her adjustments while still being really affective. I had been seeing Emily for adjustments on and off for about a year but I started seeing her at least once a week as soon as I found out i was pregnant. Getting regular adjustments through pregnancy helped me feel as comfortable as possible in those later months and i believe that her treatments contributed in a big way to my peaceful and natural labor. After my baby girl was born I brought her to see Emily for an adjustment a few days later. She is great with her, she is really really gentle and the little one was so much happier after seeing her.
