One thing I'll say about Mayo is they are one of the nicest hospitals that treat everyone with the upmost respect. It's one of the things I appreciate about them. They know exactly what to look for to properly diagnose and treat patients accordingly. They are very modern and get just about everything done. With several campus around the Phoenix/ Scottsdale area they are within reach for all your needs with open doors. 2 years I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that was at the beginning stages and starting to affect me. Being from New Mexico I found myself struggling to find the proper healthcare to treat it. I got on a waitlist with a referral sent to UNM and couldn't get seen soon enough. I was then left to do some research and outsource to out of state healthcare. Mayo called me back almost immediately and took me in right away. I met with my neurologist Jonathan Carter who has been taking care of me since. He got me the resources I needed to begin treatment asap. I am forever grateful for his help. Although I have to travel it's worth it. This is one of the best hospitals I've ever been to. Although I currently don't have a primary care physician at home, I'm really considering Mayo to find a new pcp for all my other healthcare needs.

Ask the Community - Mayo Clinic

Do you take Medicare patients fort diagnosis and treatment?

    Yes they do!

I'm going in late June to see Dr Carter for my neurological issues than no one here in Vegas, including the Lou Ruvo Cleveland Clinic can help me. Do you think this is a good place to go or just go straight to Barrow?

Depends on your condition. I have been impressed with the Neurology department, but seriously unimpressed with all other aspects of the campus. I hope you were able to find the care needed for your condition.

Any info about Mayo labs or MRSA rates?

The hospital experience was great and all the nurses were great. I didn't meet the surgeons but the anesthesia team was great. The only bad thing that I took a star off for was the food was soooooo bad. I mean like nearly inedible. When you're trying to recover and eat it's hard to when you can barely shove down the food. I'm not even very picky but I can't overstate how bad it is so order oatmeal and fruit and stuff that isn't going to be nasty. The aftercare was also great and they set all my appointments for me and it was so easy to stay on track. No complaints and every provider I saw was great.

We went to Arizona General on Ellsworth and Elliot. From the minute we walked in to register until I left there was pleasant helpful staff. We arrived around 9pm, Emily at registration was kind and quickly got me registered. About two minutes later I starting receiving text updates about my wait time. These texts continued throughout my stay in the ED, keeping me up to date on my progress. AND, this morning I received another text offering help to find a PCP and make a follow up appointment!! The Triage team saw me within 20 minutes, and about 10 minutes later I was called back to a room. Dr. Okafor came into the room, listened to my symptoms, and immediately told me he would be ordering a CT scan and blood work. All the tests, blood work, CT scan, were done so quickly, I was truly astonished. Gratefully, nothing was seriously wrong, and I was informed I'd be going home. Karla, RN, explained all my discharge paperwork instructions very clearly, my IV was removed, and we were on our way home. This entire process was so quick and efficient! We arrived around 9 pm and we were back in our home at 12:03 am, this is including our drive time. THANK YOU to Karla RN, Michelle patient financial services, Krystal Lab Tech, Dayna Imaging Tech, and Dr. Okafor for all your attention, excellent care, and quickly moving me through. Many of the 1 ratings on this page pertain to billing, Emergency Room experiences, and feelings of mistreatment. Our family member, several weeks ago, felt the imaging staff had no respect for her fragile body and curved spine. They knew what they needed to do, they had a long, busy, full night. The patient was a technical task needing solving. Some years ago, a doctor gave me his opinion from, as he said, "The view from 30,000 feet. " The view here from 30,000 feet is "Medical City". I do not know how many thousands of people "live" in this city from Janitors to food prep, nursing, brain surgeons and administrators. It is a complex place dealing with every aspect of human bodies, birth to preservation, and who is going to pay for these services and how. January, 2026 we learned, at a physical therapy center, the insurer of our family member withdrew Medicare Advantage coverage from them December 31, 2025. We scrambled. Elderly, on Medicare, we fell back on standard Medicare, but paid out of pocket for awhile. My heart goes out to people crushed between low pay and less than stellar medical insurance, and the medical institutions treating them, no matter the circumstances. We do not know what this hospitalization will ultimately cost our family. Care of our family member has been deep and wide. I think of thecduffering of my ancestors from falls, infections and the many diseases I get vaxed for. It is miraculous age. I see medications delivered at millionths of grams keeping a body functioning and relatively oit of pain. I am amazed. I see the teams assembled to work these medical miracles and I am amazed.

How ironic that Dignity Health's universal skill of the month for July is "tones of respect"…read morebecause on July 1st, my husband, a paralyzed veteran, was an inpatient at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. He went in for a procedure in the Interventional Radiology department. What should have been routine became a very upsetting healthcare experience. I can only surmise that the information my husband gave to the nurse was misconstrued when she spoke with the doctor, because instead of asking my husband for clarity, Dr. Cole Mendenhall entered the procedure room, visibly angry and began yelling at my husband. His demeanor was rude, condescending, and intimidating. As my husband's spouse and caregiver, I found the doctor's behavior to be completely unprofessional and unnecessarily aggressive toward a patient who is paralyzed and vulnerable. Without making any apparent effort to de-escalate the situation or hear both sides, Dr. Mendenhall refused to perform the medically necessary procedure that had already been scheduled. We left shocked, humiliated, and without the care my husband needed. Every patient deserves to be treated with dignity, respect and compassion- especially those who have served our country and those who have significant disabilities. Being a nurse, I understand that misunderstandings can happen in any healthcare setting, but professionals should respond with professionalism, communication and empathy, not with anger and intimidation. I sincerely hope that Saint Joseph's Medical Center reviews this incident carefully, and takes meaningful steps to make sure that no other patient or family experiences treatment like this. We expected compassionate care, instead, we left feeling dismissed, threatened and deeply disappointed.
