At a salon of this price point how often to I have to say "when" as they're cutting and clipping away? Also agree w recent post, styling products were Walmart quality. I voiced my concerns to her immediately at the moment and just like my haircut, she also ignored that and basically told me that it doesn't look too bad and it is what it is. I have been going to see Charminique for years. She does great work with color and styling but she is consistently late to every single appointment and always "running behind". My biggest mistake was to continue to go to a person who isn't timely. I made an appointment for June 8th at 9:00 AM. **I booked online and was charged for the entire amount before having a service** I arrived to my appointment 5 minutes early. Charminique had another client in her chair when I arrived. She hadn't even started styling the clients hair. I took a seat and Charminique asked me to wait 10-15 minutes to finish her client. 10-15 minutes went by and she wasn't ready for me. 30 minutes passed and Charminique was not ready. I got up to leave as I had another engagement to which I needed to be on time. I filed a dispute with my credit card company to get refunded and Kenyon (owner) and Charminique lied to the credit card company stating I showed up late and left without saying anything. Actually, I told Charminique I was leaving because my appointment was at 9 AM and it was 9:30 AM and she was still servicing another client. She said sorry and asked me to wait (the audacity to ask me to wait more than 30 minutes past my original appointment time). She insisted on a quick cut, then blew it dry straight and thick and began hacking away and cut deep into it like a paper shredder or carrot peeler. The thing is I stopped her, but by then her innocent voice was, "No worries this will be great." I went to pay and it was $118 & the manager added the tip wrong and it was $148. The stylist after 3 hours of this procedure--spoke to me at a later date and agreed everything was wrong and that she--Mary--wasn't capable of the cut. So I stupidly agreed to at least let her calm down my roots. When I went back this turned out to be a nightmare like no other. The owner told her to dye my roots a color to match the overall color of my hair. The stylist and I both said no the color you picked has red tones and will make the roots worse--let's use medium brown. That was agreed but the stylist got scared of her boss and used the reddish brown and afterwards took me out in natural daylight on the street. She said, "Plz don't go home like this--you look worse--even more like a clown--on fire--plz let me fix this." I told her I think I should leave because your co-workers are starting to look at me weird as if this is my fault. She said who cares about them--I'm fixing it. Yet in Spanish which I understand--she told them she was dying my roots brown at my request. After she put the dye on my roots and my scalp was burning as now I was in the salon for 4 more hours--her co-worker told the stylist--" plz remove the color you put on this girl's head--you picked the wrong level of brown and it will look like black." Sure enough: blackish roots all over my hair and strands--and myself checking my hair--black stain all over my nails. They had nothing in the salon to remove it. So everything I came in for was a waste of 7 hours and it will take 3 months at least to grow out a horrifying, thinned all over choppy haircut. Sure I can blow dry it and make it nice. And sure two washes and the color will blend, but the money and time wasted can not be replaced. Mary knew I wanted an easy to go look. Wash and water no fuss--which only can happen with a professional cut. So ladies--avoid this salon. Also, her co-worker looked into my eyes a few times to let me know that the woman who said she could style and color me very well--didn't have the knowledge to be good at any of this and was seriously inexperienced. I booked my appointment about a month out and appreciated receiving a confirmation text. Sometimes I get worried when I book things so far an advance, but Semeka even sent me a reminder day of and was able to move my appointment time up. The salon itself is beautiful and pretty spacious. Very convenience location from the red line transportation. Having got my eye lashes done before I was sort of dreading laying there for an hour, but she played such good music I was almost able to fall asleep. I like that she did one eye at a time versus having both eyes taped and going back and forth between lash applications. Somehow that made a big difference in my comfort. (I'm a contact wearer) I love the results! Not too long that they look fake, but they do make a huge difference. I have very large eyes and you have to use a longer length in order to make them really stand out. As a side note something I will probably need to take up with Groupon, but she said that the deal where you get one full set of mink lashes and a follow up 4 week appointment is not correct. The follow up appointment is more so a filler appointment, but after four weeks you'll probably only have two lashes left and require a new set (which she is willing to charge a discount on). A little bit of sneaky advertising, but she said that Groupon would not fix it, so she opted to remove her groupon completely. We worked out something, but for others just a heads up! :)
