I started out loving this place until I kept having my hair messed up by Michael Hopkins "Michael David Styles". First he made my hair orange. Then he tried to fix it and ended up streaking my hair instead of highlighting it. I brought in clip in extensions and he couldn't color them so he called them crap. I took them home and did them myself easily. Turns out he doesn't have an actual beautician license for the state of IL. The salon itself is very nice and the owner is really sweet which is why it's not getting only one star, however if you don't do due diligence on your employees, how reputable can you be? Give it a shot just don't get your hair done by him. read more

This review is for the lash application by Semeka I haven't got my eye lashes done in a while and saw a Groupon for Crème de La Lash (located at Salon Heaven & Spa). I booked my appointment about a month out and appreciated receiving a confirmation text. Sometimes I get worried when I book things so far an advance, but Semeka even sent me a reminder day of and was able to move my appointment time up. The salon itself is beautiful and pretty spacious. Very convenience location from the red line transportation. Having got my eye lashes done before I was sort of dreading laying there for an hour, but she played such good music I was almost able to fall asleep. I like that she did one eye at a time versus having both eyes taped and going back and forth between lash applications. Somehow that made a big difference in my comfort. (I'm a contact wearer) I love the results! Not too long that they look fake, but they do make a huge difference. I have very large eyes and you have to use a longer length in order to make them really stand out. As a side note something I will probably need to take up with Groupon, but she said that the deal where you get one full set of mink lashes and a follow up 4 week appointment is not correct. The follow up appointment is more so a filler appointment, but after four weeks you'll probably only have two lashes left and require a new set (which she is willing to charge a discount on). A little bit of sneaky advertising, but she said that Groupon would not fix it, so she opted to remove her groupon completely. We worked out something, but for others just a heads up! :) read more

Best.Wax.Ever Like, seriously. This Brazillian didn't even hurt that much...and I don't know how that's possible. Hard wax is just that amazing, maybe? Perhaps, it was due to the fact that I chugged a massive Rockstar during the day, so the caffeine was racing through my veins and helped induce some type of natural pain-killer? I have absolutely NO idea. Def not complaining, though. I think the waxer (also the owner - so sorry I forgot her name!) was just THAT good, though! She was such a darling...so sweet and hilarious. It took a little longer than expected (about 40 minutes), but I really didn't care because she did a great and thorough job. Oh, and she was a lifesaver because she got me an appointment basically last minute on a Friday! Whoooo! The salon itself is spacious and cute...with tons of hairdresser stations, big mirrors, bright lighting ! It's located on the second floor, above the tanning studio, so you need to ring the bell and then can buzz you up. I loved that there was a huge tv and hip hop blaring when I came in. The wax is normally $55, but there's a 15% discount (I believe) for first time customers. Street parking is normally pretty easy, too. Another South Loop win! read more

Just got back home from Salon Heaven. It had great yelp reviews and was in the South Loop, so I decided to stroll on over. Megan was a gem!!! I have naturally curly hair..and am always nervous before a haircut due to other stylists screwing up my hair and giving me bad layers....but Megan, right away, knew what she was talking about and made me feel right at home! I also got a mani/pedi..totally fun! Megan was so nice and gave me some great ideas and i walked away with super perf toes and nails! She even gave me extra spa-licious treatment (a fabulous scrub), for no extra cost!!! Great music was playing and my hair is schnazzy and ready for the weekend!! Normally, i leave a salon and go straight home and style it again....but I proudly walked around downtown and felt great about my new do....Megan is even going to help me with some up-do experiments pre-wedding!! While my first few visits to the salon were fine, the level of professionalism leaves much to be desired. I had scheduled my fourth appointment directly with the stylist via text on a Monday for the following day. I arrived at the Salon 10 minutes before my 12pm appointment. At 12:15, I texted the stylist to see if she was almost ready for me. She said the "wax room was inoperable for the day". I explained that I had already been at the salon for 25 minutes, and asked if there was a different spot that could be used. She said sure. At 12:37 I texted her again, telling her I had made the 12pm appointment on my lunch hour, and I would have to get back to work. Only then did she say that her 9am client had been 45 minutes late, pushing her whole day. When I asked why she didn't text me to warn me, reschedule, or even mention this during our earlier texting, she did not have any explanation. I left the salon without my services. I called the following day and left a message for a manager to call me. I did not receive a call back. The day after that, I called again, and spoke with the manager, who asked me when I was available to reschedule my service. I gave her my availability over a 3 day window, and she said she would call me back with an appointment schedule. She never called me back. This was a week ago. If you're looking for reliable professionalism, I would suggest a different salon. & if you have any recommendations for salons in the south loop using hard wax, please let a girl know! read more

Salon Hell! I'm nearly 64 yrs old an have had my hair color treated since I was 16 in Chicago, Miami, New York and Paris - this is the first time I have had it damaged. I've tried 3 deep conditioning masks and can't effect it. I've tried communicating with the Salon manager who set me up for this treatment and she refuses to answer me. And the guy who did the treatment's comment? "Must have been the shampoo I used." No one has made one gesture toward taking responsibility or proposing a solution. I am terribly disappointed that with all the care, time and money I give my hair, it seems the only solution to this damage is to cut it off -- and I have been patiently growing it out in a very healthy manner! Worst experience ever!!! I decided to book an appointment with Megan, after searching for an awesome colorist/hair stylist close to home. A girl always needs a good back up plan when you main stylist goes on vacation or not available for that last minute appointment. So, I called Salon Heaven at least four days before my scheduled appointment and spoke with either the owner or manager (not sure which one). On the day of my appoint I decided to show up show up at least 20 mins. early so we could talk about color and cut before my appointment and the front receptionist couldn't find information my information calendar. What made it even worse...hair stylist wasn't even working that day. Receptionist made a call to the "owner" and she did apologize for not entering the appointment into the computer. I was told, "she was working off site for the day. I'm sorry. I can offer you a free manicure and schedule you for tomorrow (saturday)." Unfortunately, I wasn't able to fit the offer into my weekend schedule. I left disappointed and frustrated. I had to go back to my regular stylist...so happy to learn she was able to it me in her hectic schedule. The owner did follow-up with me and try to resolve the situation by offering another stylist at a steep discount but I wasn't comfortable. So I live right across the street and never knew this place was here. I needed a quick pedi so thought I'd walk over. Unfortunately while they do take walk-ins, she was booked. She said she oculd take me after but I was legitimately in a hurry as I was leaving for the burbs shortly. I said no worries, I understand but she said maybe just do a quick non-spa pedi. I said sure. Basically she shaped and polished and just cleaned up but my toes still looked awesome! Toni did it and I really liked her. The girl whose appointment I was taking was late but when she came in we also got to chatting and she loves this place and had some good taste in other Solo spots so I trusted her judgement. I went for a massage with Elijah, and boy, did he do an excellent job! His was thorough, friendly and professional. He used a combination of techniques designed to soothe my tension and help me relax. Based on my subsequent interactions with the owner/manager and couple of the other stylists, I'd definitely go back. However, Danyel called me and asked me to come back and try Salon Heaven because of the horrendous service that I received last time....alas, I am always letting businesses have a redemption, kind of like Tosh.O :) Anyway, so it was the day after the snowpacalypse & thundersnow so I called to make sure that they were open. They had no apptmt for me. And said that my apptmt had been for the previous Thursday. I had a vm from the receptionist stating the date so something happened. Either way, Danyel made it work. She said to come on it....THANK GOODNESS I called though....I would have been PISSED! So she is so freaking nice. I love her personality. The first time I went to Salon Heaven, I called and was able to be worked in immediately as there was an opening and I was able to show up quickly as I don't live far away. I was placed with Crizen. She was really awesome! My first time here and it was her first time to cut my hair. She really did a great job! She used nothing but scissors and usually that worries me as I like to have my hair cut really short with a faux hawk kind of style. It looked really great! The interior of this place was really great too. Very sexy, great staff, great for all hair types types. I was happy with my haircut but sadly ...as I usually get my haircut every two weeks, my haircut from Crizen only lasted about 1 week...maybe a week and a half at most. But none the less, I would certainly go back to her. I would just have her cut it shorter than she did. I was so happy to find a great location and it's really close to where I live. Yay! My second visit was great too! I was able to get an appointment with Alithea (spelling may be wrong here). She did a great job. She took her time and I have no complaints with that. It took about 35 to 40 minutes from start to finish. I tried to get Crizen but she wasn't in. I was happy to get in nonetheless. Alithea cut my hair shorter than when Crizen cut it and worked really well for me. I can tell this haircut was shorter and would last longer for me. I'm really picky with my hair and I look damn good. I would schedule again with Crizen or Alithea. I'm so happy I found Salon Heaven. read more

After deciding to never go back to my regular hairdresser again, I hopped on the internet to find a new salon. There are a lot of good looking websites, let me tell you. Salon Heaven has really good reviews and offer a lot of services. What sold me was that they take walk-ins, and I didn't think I'd be able to make an appointment on such short notice (the day of). I was able to make an appointment, however, with Deadrick. When I walked in, the owner, Kiky Fynn, greeted me. She was really friendly and because I'm a new customer, gave me a form to fill out. While I was filling it out, another girl took me coat. I don't know where she kept coming from, but she also took the form back to Kiky for me, and brought my coat out to me as I was leaving. I don't know if she's always that attentive, or just because it was a slow day, but she was great. After a minute or two, Deadrick took me back to his station and asked some questions about my hair...how i wear it, how long it's been since my last cut,.... Then on to the shampoo. It was the best shampoo I've ever gotten!! Very relaxing. I'm usually a little anxious when getting my hair cut, but this time I wasn't at all. He seemed confident in himself and really put me at ease. He was really easy to talk to, and it didn't feel like forced, uncomfortable small-talk. I LOVE my hair now. It's exactly what I wanted even though all I knew going in, was what I didn't want. It looks better, and it feels better. Salon Heaven is a million times better than the salon I used to go to. Everyone on the staff seems to genuinely like and care about their job. I'm so so glad I went to Salon Heaven. I'll definitely be back when I need a trim. read more

ok, WOW. this place rules. ive been living in the city for a year now and finally realized i need to stop waiting to get my haircut until i go home (to madison). this place was close and i was REALLY in need. i called for a manicure, highlight and cut and said i need someone good with curly hair. she said, like afro american curly hair and i said no. just curly. this shouldve tipped me off- i got there and was the only white person. nice. of course, i didnt let it scare me off - why would it? my hair IS really curly. my manicure started like a half hour late, but thats really the only negative thing i can say - plus i munched on the fruit and coffee they had out. i still made it on time to the cubs game and both the stylist and manicurist were conscious of the time when i told them i had to go for the game. veronica did my nails and they are fabulous!! she only does real nails, not acrylics, and only works weekends but shes WORTH it. her little procedure is totally unique and i plan to go back for a pedicure. my nails look fantastic and she was really easy to talk to. then came crizen, a cute little filipino chick, to do my hair. i told her what i was thinking and she told me what SHE thought.. i said she should do what she thinks is best and boy was she right. it came out better than it did in my head! i know i sound pretty over the top, but i am really happy to have found a place within walking distance - i will definitely go back to see crizen. plus! 10% off for first time clients! without the discount, the manicure was $20, womens cut/partial highlight $115 (i think). read more

I recently moved to the South Loop and need an updo for an event tomorrow. Scheduled an appointment last week with a woman who said she wasn't sure who would be available, "probably Michael" and scheduled me for 3/7/15 at 3:00. I was concerned about her vague response when I asked the stylist's name. I called today to verify, and sure enough, I was not scheduled. I was put on hold for quite awhile and was told that I was not on the schedule, that they have 2 schedule books and that the owner with the other book was not in right now. What?!? The scheduler said she could work me in, but I decided against using such a disorganized salon. Now I have to find a stylist available on a Saturday at the last minute: great. I'm assuming there must be some stylist in this place that has some talent, but apparently I have never gotten them. I've been here twice and will never return ever again. The first time I went I got a trim and my eyebrows waxed. I should have cancelled the eyebrow wax after looking at my jacked up bangs, they were completely crooked, really thick and blunt (not what I asked for) and the overall experience was extremely poor. It was so dark inside as no one turned on any lights the entire time I was there and the stylists all seemed more interested in their conversation than on actually servicing clients. My eyebrow wax was atrocious. I walked away with one eyebrow about an inch shorter than the other. Thankfully my new thick chuncky ugly bangs covered it up. I decided to give them another try since they're so close to my house and went for just a bang trim and requested a different stylist. This guy trimmed my bangs sooooo slowly, we're talking about a half hour and then styled them in a way that made me literally laugh out loud when I looked in the mirror. I got full on DJ Tanner bangs! Yep! Curled underneath and curled back on top. These stylists need some serious training. If you're looking for a student to cut your hair, go to the aveda school in lincoln park. They'll do a much better job for a lot cheaper. Never again! read more

After reading the reviews, figured I'd take a chance on Salon Heaven. Left a message to make an appointment to cut my hair, Kiky got back to me right away and was able to schedule me that same week! So had my haircut done by Michael (haven't had it cut in over 2 years, just needed someone who really knows how to cut curly hair), he gave me an excellent cut, 2 weeks later I was still getting compliments!! And he even texted me to check in to make sure I was satisfied! (that has never happened anywhere I've been!) He was super easy to talk to and asked questions about the cut as he went along to ensure he got it just right, really appreciate that. Guess I found my hairdresser! read more

I have been coming to see Michael for a little over a year now. I found him at Spoil me Salon, followed him to Kovo, and am thrilled to see he has his own place now. Michael is the best. Especially if you're looking for reds. We have changed it up, from back, to red, to strawberry blonde back to black (heads up, I may be going red again soon) and I have had amazing results every time. There was one time I had to rush out midway through processing because i had to go to work, but I came back in the next day to finish up, and as usual, it was exactly what I wanted. Most of the time I just let him loose. I tell him what I'm looking for and have him work his magic however he feels best. I trust him with my hair (no one else touches my hair right now). If for whatever reason you are not satisfied with your hair, Michael WILL fix it for you at no charge. Unfortunately, that leads to scammers like Nicole B, who will take advantage to try and get free services at the expense of hard working professionals. I saw pictures of her hair before and after and it looked amazing. Almost made me want to go blonde. Either way, Michael Hopkins is excellent and his new salon is amazing. I tried this place a few months back for a haircut and was not pleased. I vowed I wouldn't return, but it's so conveniently located that I decided I'd try again. The first time I went I had a haircut with Megan. She was super nice and talkative. However, I asked only for a trim and some layers, and she took entirely too much hair off. And then when she went to cut my bangs, she didn't even bother parting my hair. I had to TELL her to stop and re-part my hair, but by then the damage was done. Worst haircut I've ever had. My second visit to Salon Heaven was for a full foil color job. Again, I had Megan as my stylist. I've been getting full and partial blonde foils for years, and I have never had any problems with any stylists. I came back from the salon with several large brown spots on the top of my head where she didn't bother coloring at all. Her foil job in general was awful, none of the foils were close to the scalp at all so it looks like I STILL need to go get my color done. It sounds like some people have had better experiences both with Megan and other stylists, however, I for sure will not be returning. read more

I've never had a constant hairdresser, but I think I will now. I'm usually a bit apprehensive getting my hair cut, but I always tell myself that it grows back. I am very happy to have discovered Salon Heaven and Spa. Finding the place was a little difficult at first because the salon is actually located on the 2nd floor of a building and you have to press the buzzer to be let in. Upstairs the salon is decorated beautifully and everyone was very friendly. They took my coat when I arrived and actually returned it to me when I left. I've had the experience where I had to go fish my coat out of a closet on my way out of other hair salons. My appointment was booked with Megan. She was very nice and did an excellent job of identifying my hair type, cutting and styling. She was always sure to explain each step of the process and by the time we were done I was actually shocked to see my hair because she did such a great job. Probably the best haircut of my life in fact. I thought the haircut was going to be expensive, but it turned out to be a great value and with a discount below what I thought it was going to be.
