We were also told the owner/event manager would be on hand for help the day of. She seemed to forget who I was after meeting with me multiple times, but no biggie. I'm sure she meets lots of people. What was really not okay was that when we showed up to set up our event, the area was NOT cleaned and there was nobody to be found. There was dust and dirt everywhere that took an hour to clean before even being able to set up, a gross dead bug graveyard in the sitting area floor, it smelled musty, and overall was just not up to the standard they advertised. The owner nor any staff showed up at any point. We were not greeted, we were not helped, and it was just kind of a "okay good luck" situation. Also, the "AC" was on 75 on a hot May day. After paying the second half of the $550 fee, I didn't hear from the event manager other than a text asking what time I'd be in. Afterwards, nobody checked on us or the space. Never even heard from them to get a "thank you for renting our space" or "I'm sorry I wasn't available today"... To pay $550, you'd expect to get what you pay for. As a local, I will NOT be renting there for any other party I host nor trying out their B&B if the service is anything like this experience has been. Next time, we'll pay $550 for a nicer place on 151.

Step up the hill to John and Olivia's Bed and Breakfast in the morning, served up hot and delicious at the family table by Carol and her staff. The B&B's main room and kitchen area are uncannily accurate replicas of the interior of the Hollywood set house. The B&B has several themed rooms each with a private bath. There is also a small gift shop with cool memorabilia for sale. Carol saved the Hamner house and the legacy of Earl Hamner, Jr. -- I had to give it 5 stars but if I could, I would give it 10! It's a nostalgic trip to a bygone era. Don't miss it!

We never ran into the owner until just before leaving on the second day, but felt at home the whole time. We will definitly be back again the next time we are in the area, it is definitley a home away from home kind of place and was a great value for quality of accomodations. A 1910 home with grand rooms, high ceilings and filled with charm you will never get from a corporate chain. We were served coffee, tea, 4 different juices, fresh baked pastries, quiche, yogurt, bacon and more bacon. We felt like royalty. Our only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer. We were only in town for one day. The Inn on the Avenues was an amazing stay and we whole heartedly recommend you choose this place over any hotel/motel. The price was great, food was delicious, the owner was as kind as could be and it was an unforgettable stop on our vacation. We look forward to our next stay here.

Parking was a breeze, purchasing tickets was easy, and we were able to shop in every single room of the Inn, which also essentially doubled as a tour. The rooms were all lovely and the Inn was the perfect backdrop for shopping. I even tried a sample of their holiday tea (and subsequently bought some). One of the owners was dolling out the samples and it was nice to chat with him. You could tell he and his wife put a lot of love into their Inn. I wouldn't hesitate to return for other events and will keep this spot in mind for future visitors looking for a B&B experience as well.

We had reservations to stay at a different B&B in Scottsville but due to an unfortunate situation we found ourselves looking for alternate arrangements. While I was on the cell phone checking for a place my wife ran across The Chester and called them. She was smiling from the moment that she spoke with them on the phone which, considering our frame of mind, was a great start. We got to this place which was absolutely gorgeous. The Inn was spacious, clean, very tastefully decorated and painted, and smelled like roses and family. We were warmly greeted by Jean who showed us the rooms and was accommodating from the get go. She helped us plan dinner and set up a late wine tasting trip, as well as offered to make dinner for us the evening after. The dinner was fantastic with Jean and Craig pampering us with delicious food, wine and dessert. If you have the opportunity to have dinner with them ask her for the orange squash soup and the rosemary pork...WOW! The breakfasts too were amazing!! We offered Jean to buy our own bacon/sausage since my wife does not eat nitrates (migraines). She told us not to worry about it and she will figure it out. The first day she served a fantastic veggie quiche (sorry if I am not using the right term) with fresh juice and french pressed coffee. The second day french toast with NITRATE FREE apple sausages! Our rooms were promptly made every day and Craig made sure to provide turned down service which was a very nice detail. We chatted with the hosts at Breakfast (which was delicious) and when we returned from dinner in the evening. The second evening we even talked them into a scotch and great conversation in front of a roaring fire. Location is quaint and peaceful and very close to all of the sites you would want to visit (Monticello, Madison's house, wineries, Charlottesville, antique shops, etc.). A great stay.

While the ceremony was beautiful and…read morethe venue has charm, the experience leading up to and during our wedding day was incredibly stressful due to poor communication, unfulfilled promises, and a total lack of professional coordination. We chose this intimate venue for a low-stress experience, but we felt like a low priority and were blamed for every issue. Before we paid our deposit, communication with T was fantastic. Afterward, replies went from taking hours to taking weeks. Though coordination was explicitly included, T failed to deliver: No Communication/Direction: T ignored late-night texts about the fire pit, leaving my husband to build it. On the wedding day, no one directed guests or vendors; I had to meet people in the parking lot. Timeline Failures: Our 5:00 PM ceremony started late because no one tracked the timeline or gathered the groom. T then rushed us through everything else to hit a strict 7:00 PM dinner, cutting into our photography. Poor Hospitality: In 90-degree heat, we had to make six trips to haul bags to our cottage with no help or golf cart offered. Later, staff refused to let guests (including older family) sit down or get a drink before we entered. During a rushed photo session, T inappropriately interrupted to complain about our guest book pens. The Flowers & Charms: Friday, I gave T a labeled bag. My mom explicitly asked her to attach 4 sentimental charms of my late grandparents to my bouquet. T agreed. By 3:50 PM Saturday, I had no flowers. T was entirely off-property, forcing my mom to hunt down the bouquet. When found, the charms were missing. T arrived late, blamed others, and told me to attach them myself while in my wedding dress. The groom's boutonnieres also arrived Friday and were brown and wilted by ceremony time. Blame & Broken Promises: The AC: When the AC broke in my parents' room, T instantly accused us: "You must have blown a fuse." Dances: T acted visibly annoyed by our first and parent dances, though they were explicitly scheduled. The Grounds: Promised winter hydrangeas and wildflower hills were actually zero bushes and pure dirt. Hidden Fees & Perks: T forgot our cake design details multiple times. Souvenir flutes contractually promised were never received. We were charged a surprise $21 fee for cottage breakfast delivery. When we asked to put our refund on a different card, they fought us before reluctantly writing a check. The Menu: Food quality didn't match prior menus. We were never shown the breakfast menu, yet T snapped at my husband for asking for ketchup and blamed us for not changing a menu we never saw. To top it off, our marriage certificate arrived with my name misspelled and the wrong date. T never offered a single compliment on the wedding day and didn't even say goodbye at checkout. Our wedding was beautiful solely because our 11 guests stepped up to run it. Future couples: what is promised in the sales pitch is not what is delivered. Get every syllable in writing.

Open to the public it can get a little busy but they always took good care of me. The menu wasn't extensive but the food was far better than any hotel breakfast I've had recently.
