We've been here for three nights and still haven't received any housekeeping, so we went to get our own towels refresh from the front desk and placed all our wet towels and bags of trash in the hallway. The customer service is basically non-existent. At breakfast, while families were waiting, four employees who were chatting and joking around took up the small space and ate the last of the food, leaving others to wait. I haven't stayed at a place like this in a decade or more. Don't stay here!

I suggest the owner investigate how to make some improvements for large parties in the future as well as possibly team building or incentives for the employees because seemed as though the employees are not happy in their jobs and their jobs are CUSTOMER SERVICE. I'm exhausted from traveling but I canceled the second day of my trip because I couldn't get another hotel room because of the holiday. I will be vacating these premises first thing in the morning. I pray I make it through the night. This is not a nice place to stay, if you are use to better. They don't even have ice machines here. Think twice about booking here.

The hotel charged my card 142.17 on 6/25! I called the hotel on 6/26 when I saw the pending charge and the hotel manger George Miller who was very matter of fact and rude stated "all hotels do this across the board to make sure the card is valid" I stated to him that's incorrect, why would my card be charged on 6/25 when I still have until 6/27 to cancel the room for free? George told me that I would have to cancel the room through the booking app and then a representative from booking.com would have to call him to cancel the room. I did just that and called booking.con the cancel the room and stayed on the phone on hold while he called the hotel the have the charge removed. Once the call ended with booking.com I called the hotel back and spoke with George again and he stated he took the authorization off. I asked for a corporate number and he says there is no corporate number very rudely on the phone, after asking him two more times he finally gives me the number to IHG. So today 7/3 the charge is no longer pending but now an actual charge. I spoke to my bank and they saw nothing coming back to the card. I call the hotel and George is not there so a young lady at the front desk stated it's showing as a charge and nothing was reversed or taken off. She stated she could not do a refund and that the manager George whom I spoke with will have to do the refund. So now we have a case of stealing money. DO NOT do business with this hotel, George Miller is stealing money and now I have an attorney involved. The funds are still not on the card.

First, I thought the 5-6 staff members with whom I interacted were very nice and super professional. They really bent over backwards to answer my questions throughout my stay. Although my room was a bit dated (especially the bathroom), it had everything that I needed and everything was in great working order. I thought the room, as well as the hotel's grounds were very clean. Well, I take that back a little bit bc I had to jiggle the toilet's handle to prevent the water from running inside of the toilet for too long. However, this was not too big of a deal. *Crap, I meant to tell the front desk about it during check out. I thought all of the appliances were fine.* While I did not cook during my stay, the kitchen (stove, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher) was great for reheating my leftovers from various local restaurants. The bed was very comfortable; the room was supplied with plenty of towels; and there was decent space for 1-2 people. The lights in the room were a little too dim for me, but that was not a deal breaker. The hotel provides a daily breakfast, which includes buffet-style eggs, a meat of the day, packed breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal, waffles, fruit, pastries, and cereal. I only had breakfast one morning, and I thought it was pretty good for a buffet breakfast in low to mid budget hotel. While the hotel is in a quiet part of town compared to the downtown area, the hotel is about 5-10 minutes (by car) from downtown and about 15 minutes (by car) from the train station. Also, the hotel is located about 5 minutes (by walking) from the nearest bus stop. During my stay (middle of November), Richmond public transportation was free, which was great. Within walking distance, there is a Plaza Azteca, Denny's, a small shopping center, and a bowling alley. There is a larger shopping center that includes a bunch of restaurants that is one stop away on the local bus. If you decide to utilize public transportation, be very careful because the streets and intersections are not very pedestrian-friendly. Overall, if you are looking for a luxury experience, then I would stay at another hotel. But, if you are looking for something that is budget-friendly for a quick stay, this might the spot for you.

Entering the actual hotel room, however, all the signs of wear and tear are present. First, the room appears that it's been broken into based on the door frame/lock and all the caulking, or lack thereof that has taken place. Throughout the hotel, there are signs of rust - around the charging stations, in the bathroom. The shower curtain had a stain that is either ketchup or something else questionable of that color. The shower faucet looked like if I pressed or pulled too hard, it'd fall off. I saw hair clumps in the shower drain, since there was no cover to hide all that gunk. The pillows were nice and worn out. You have to ask for bedding for the pull out couch - normally it's in the closet. The gym too had worn out equipment, like broken dumbbells. But the pros of it include a breakfast, as is customary in most Hilton hotels, a dishwasher, larger fridge, a suite for extra space for families. We made the best of it, but again, if I paid the actual full price of it, then it wouldn't be worth it.

But the room did seem smaller than other Homewood Suites that we have stayed at before (I really love Homewood Suites and usually stay at one in the area I am visiting if I do not choose to stay in an AirBnB or VRBO). The toilet seat in our bathroom was loose and the towel rack in the bathroom also was loose (it actually fell on the floor when I tried to hang a towel on it. My husband had to screw it back on for me). But I did like that the shower had bath wash, liquid shampoo and conditioner on the wall. I also liked that the sink also had liquid hand soap. There was also lotion but I didn't use it. I thought the bed was too soft for my liking. But the room was clean but just a little cramp/ tight in the living area. But the stay was adequate for us for a few days. We did use the kitchen to cook (I am one of those people who likes to cook, even when on vacation). The breakfast every morning was good, but do not think they serve different food items each day, as it was the same things for the 2 mornings we had breakfast. I did like the offerings, which included an omelet (it was one of those frozen ones folded in half with cheese in the middle), hard boil eggs, yogurt, sausage patties, various pastries, bread, fruit (oranges, apples, bananas), assorted juices, milk, coffee, hot water, oatmeal and cold cereal, potato.
