A long time favorite place we went for dinner. It was one of our favorites that fell apart just after Covid....But then turned it around..... WELL!!!!!!!!! Once again it failed. She ordered a Chimichanga and I a fajita. But right away we suspected things had changed. The chips and dip was lacking. We do not do the hot sauce, it simply doesn't work for us. The 'mild' was tasteless, you don't have to burn my mouth top have a good sauce. Then came our meal. Mine came out very hot as it should be. I was satisfied with the meat dish. But the rice and beans were literally cold. Well, to be generous it was 'cool', certainly not hot. The food felt and tasted as though someone had dished it up and then set it aside. Fifteen minutes later the waiter picked it up. Was the taste lacking because it was not hot or??? Frankly, it just didn't taste very good. I did not fuss with the waiter because by then we were just hungry and ate what we could. My wife's dinner according to her was flat.....the main portion was warm, not hot and like mine lacked the character we were accustomed to at the place. So the food portions are a LOT LESS than before. We had some guacamole and the portion is about half what it used to be. Then we had a refill and there was nothing but guacamole, no onion, tomato, etc as was in first dish and if you believe it a smaller portion. Why is the black bean soup one dimensional? Cumin seeds and a dollop of crema could bring major improvement. What has happened to the carne asada? Oh dear. This has been our go-to Mexican restaurant for years but I have noticed the food hasn't been the same the last couple of times we've gone. The chile Colorado burrito is my favorite item and it doesn't taste the same as it used to. We went last night and the meat in the burrito was dry and tough, there was hardly any sauce, and it tasted like it had been microwaved. I used to love las margaritas but the place burned down and now Lincoln is left with the other morales Mexican restaurants. Typically I love their food and have for years. Tonight, my daughter insisted we come here to order the chicken enchiladas. Homemade ones just aren't the same to her. She ordered that and I ordered the fish tacos. The fish was so strong and fishy it hit me in the face when it came to the table. Eating the fish was hugely worse and it just didn't seem like fresh ingredients. I tried my daughters meal and it was seriously the worst enchiladas I ever; worse than the Casa Bonita. She didn't eat it all and I only ate one taco. The worst and most shocking part are the prices!! It was like visiting Honolulu and paying the outrageous prices you could expect from having everything imported. I'll give you an example. At las margaritas, Al pastor tacos were $1.50 each. On todays menu, three Al pastor tacos are $19.50!!! Everything on the menu is outrageously priced. It's Mexican food, a dash of cheese, a couple tortillas, some protein, pico? It's appalling and I'm never going back. read more

First of all let me start by saying this was our favorite Mexican restaurant in Lincoln since the 1990's. Unfortunately, the past 3-4 times I've been here, I have NOT been happy with my food. I normally order the Chile Colorado burrito. They have changed the sauce completely!!! It tastes like it came from a jar or a can. I do not like it at all!!!! It's now more like a brown mole sauce vs. the spicy red sauce it used to be. I'm fairly certain the previous red sauce was homemade. I was hoping that it was this location only that changed the sauce, so I went to another Morales family restaurant, El Toro, near 48th and Old Cheney. Unfortunately, they had the same yucky jarred/canned sauce too. I haven't tried Mazatlan II, Las Margaritas to see if their Chile Colorado sauce has changed, but I'm assuming it has. I've never been to Agave. I am so disappointed. We used to go to Mazatlan several times a month. I don't even want to go there anymore. I had noticed the past year or so it had started going downhill. The entrees that my husband and I usually ordered (Pork Chili Verde and Chili Colorado burrito) came out really watery. It was like they had the meat soaking in a water solution. Scooped it out w/o draining much or any water off and then put the entree sauce on it. It was almost like soup sometimes!! I sent it back once. I still like Mazatlan's chips, salsa and queso dip though. They do have a habit of not heating up the queso enough, though. There is still a clump of unmelted cheese in the middle. They need to stir it and put it back in the microwave for another 30 seconds. I'm so disappointed in this restaurant. We had been coming here for 30 years. We need to find a new favorite Mexican place now. We have been going to Hacienda Real. I don't like their Colorado sauce either, but their Enchilada Suizas and Pork Chile verde entrees are pretty good. I don't care for their queso. It's too thick and orange. I like a nice thin white queso with thin chips. I do like that they give you some beans to dip your chips in tho. We also have tried El Potrero south 3 times with friends, who go there frequently. I'm not really impressed. Thick chips w/o flavor. Fried in old tasting oil. No salt. Salsa average. Entrees tasted mediocre. Don't get the Pork Chili Verde. It's not your normal green sauce. It's a drier chunky green salsa that's not very good. Queso is okay tho. Prob won't go back. Mi Tierra is average too. Enchilada Suizas is okay. The south one is better than the north one IMO. read more

I've been here a couple times and the food is delicious! The bar however is unreliable. The first visit I was served virgin margaritas for some reason (??)when I got the second one I asked the waitress about it and she said the bartender must have been confused. They weren't confused about charging me for real margaritas. Came here for a friends Birthday dinner because we heard they put a sombrero on the birthday person and sing them happy birthday. We came in, told our waitress, she was a decent waitress, we told her it was his birthday and asked if they do that. She said no we don't so that, so we were ok with it, had our dinner, dessert and all and while we were having our dessert a group in the small room over had a birthday too, they put the sombrero on the guy and sang him happy birthday. I could tell my friend was a little hurt because he was hoping they did that still and they didn't do that for him. We had a decent meal and a good time, but why them and not my friend? Do we have to know someone there? Do we have to be in a family group? It was four gay men in our party. But I'm not sure why. I happened by the Mazatlán restaurant on a Sunday afternoon while visiting Lincoln, and decided to try it after seeing a fairly full parking lot at 1:15 pm. I was seated after a short wait and handed a menu. Water and complimentary chips and salsas soon appeared. I was told which was mild and which was wild. I opted for the mild and really liked it. I perused the huge menu, filled with a wide variety of choices. Most are in the $10-20 range but a few specialty items are in the $30-$60 range. This isn't a place to find street tacos! The lunch menu is not offered on weekends. I chose a shrimp and veggie dish, which came with rice and beans, and my choice of corn or flour tortillas. It arrived about 5 minutes after the waitress took my order, and was on a platter the size of a medium pizza! I counted 10 large shrimp mixed in with an ample amount of veggies. It was delicious, and mildly seasoned. The rice and beans were also delicious. The restaurant seemed popular with families and couples. It isn't exactly fancy but is large and has a pleasant atmosphere. There is a small bar up front but I never saw anyone working at it. I live part time in Jalisco, Mexico, and I'm very used to eating high quality Mexican food. Mazatlán held its own, in my opinion. Prices are a ton higher than what the meal would cost in Mexico, but that's to be expected. There is free parking adjacent to the building. read more

Place looked busy from the outside but looked quite empty inside. I sat at the bar but the "bar area" was a joke! Seats were so low I had to stand up to drink my Margarita. This is as close as you will get to Mazatlan Mexico in Nebraska. The food is as authentic as you can get and well priced too. At busy times the restraunt can be a little crowded and loud but one can handle it for a good meal. Tonight my wife and I had the Morales Special and for the cost of $27.95 you get a lot of food. I am talking a huge ribeye steak, two chicken breasts, prawns with onions and mushrooms, beans and rice, guacamole, sour cream, fresh pico, and tortillas. As a recent transplant from Texas, I've been looking for a decent Mexican place for months with no success. Then I found Mazatlan, the first restaurant that came close to meeting my standards! The "hot" salsa was great! I could have used more spice, but for people whose tastebuds aren't made of steel, it's better than the ketchup people in the Midwest tout as salsa. When a friend suggested meeting up at Mazatlan, I did what any self-respecting foodie would do - I perused the menu prior to our visit so I could adequately prepare (for what, I have no idea). It's a large, spacious establishment able to seat couples or large groups comfortably. The menu offers lots of options, which confuses folks like me who have been known to adopt the "this could be my last meal here so I better make the right choice" mentality. Anyhow, I settled in with my Dos Equis, free chips and salsa (mild and less-mild) and an order of guacamole ($4.70). Fresh and chunky, you could really taste the red onions in the guacamole - something I appreciate, but know some folks shun. I ordered the Burrito Acapulco ($15.95), which is basically a giant, 10,000-calorie seafood burrito smothered in cream sauce and cheese with a side of rice and beans. What seemed to a half-minute after I ordered, my order appeared and I experienced an AHA! moment. The reason the average price of an entree is $10-16 is because they serve their meals on platters. Not plates, but big, round platters that most of use utilize for charcuterie or crudites during the holidays. I managed to consume one-third of the creamy-cheesy-oceany goodness before calling it quits. The leftovers are enough for an additional two lunches. If eating your feelings = Mexican food. Go here. If you have small children who need to eat straight away. Definitely go here. If you love large portions and want to feed your village with one entree, then this place is definitely for you. read more

They seem to be delusional in thinking it's a good idea to put the meat on the bottom and build from there. Here during my weekly visit to Lincoln. First time here at the Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant. The restaurant is clean and neat. The staff very friendly. Seated and served right away. Not very crowded, even though it was noon. I was served two salsa's with warm fresh chips. The mild salsa was ok. A little too much cumin. The hotter salsa was a home run. I loved the chunky texture and flavor. No cumin taste here. Just enough of a kick to be pleasant. I do prefer hot salsa. I dug into the extensive menu. A great assortment of beef, chicken, and seafood options. There are also some decent vegan opportunities. I chose to order the carne asada tacos. The plate came with 3 tacos on soft corn tortillas, beans, rice, and a little conch of avocado and sour cream. Visually a nice presentation. I will start with the rice and beans. Delicious. I like some cheese to top my beans and this was just the right amount. The carne in the tacos was cooked perfectly and a decent portion. Sprinkled with onions and cilantro. I took some of the hot salsa and applied generously. I wish I would have had some lime to bring a little more acidity to the dish. I enjoyed the meal. I have to be honest that I was not paying attention to the price on the menu. When I received the bill it came out to over $15.00 for the tacos and water. Always great authentic food at reasonable prices!! I love their guacamole and wonderful tortilla chips. The salsa they bring back to the table right away is amazing. They bring you a mild which is like a pico de gaio and then there is the spicy. The bean dip and the cheese dips are also delicious. So is their appetizer platter with cheesy chips, quesadillas and taquitos. I must mention that their refried beans are made with a whole lot of the L word.... Lard. Traditional wonderful refried beans! The place hasn't changed decor since I came here as a kid so it's s bit nostalgic. It's pretty clean and well maintained though. The bathrooms could use a bit of updates but not bad. The patio out front is awesome. And the restaurant itself is well kept and clean. Staff is friendly and they bring your order out quickly. When I lived in Nebraska, everytime I went to Mazatlan I got a Pina Colada, because they were -- hands down -- the most delicious I've ever had (to this day even!). The food was always piping hot, the servers were always friendly, and the restaurant was always packed with families, college kids and couples. I remember going on a date here once, even. That was awkward. At any rate, I recommend this and any of the family restaurants -- Las Margaritas, La Mexicana, etc. -- to anyone looking for delicious food at a reasonable price and outstanding pina coladas! read more

They have the best margarita. I prefer the mazatlan margarita on the rocks, usually in pitcher form if you have a large group. The food it great, hot, fresh, huge portions to share. The nachos, burritos, churros, fried ice cream are great, my favorite is the skillet faijtas with shrimp. The staff is friendly, great for kids, busy on weekend nights. You can also get one free shot on Cinco de Mayo which usually turns into 2, 3 shots later. It's clean, cozy, parking is can be difficulty during their busy hours but I've always find a spot. Runny salsa, greasy chips that soaked through the bag, gloppy beans and dry old rice. After last visiting 14 years ago this restaurant has not changed a bit. My wife ordered the Crab Chimichanga which was made of dry tinned crab meat, barely edible, for $14 it's an insult to food. Another Lincoln restaurant stuck in 1989 mode. My sons beef taco's were full of that soy/beef mix you get from Amigo's. Even my in laws from small town Nebraska could barely stomach this gastronomical travesty. I cannot believe this restaurant was recommended to me by a local resident. I don't know if it was an old cow that was used in the fajitas. The beef tough and not marinated, no flavor at all. The wait staff seemed rude, especially when they discovered that I didn't speak espanol. My bad...I'm Filipino-and I like Mexican cuisine...and this one is not it. I normally love mazatlan..but tonight I was extremely disappointed. We were celebrating my 21 year old sister's birthday. The food was ok but then it took over 45 minutes after I asked for them to bring the sombrero and sing to her. It took about 1.5 hours after everyone was clearly done eating to get the checks. We had to ask the waiter several times for the checks. Oh, and the fried ice cream was a hard as a rock with a solid layer of ice on it. read more
