We reserved a table for six in advance of a theatre visit in downtown Auburn, and there is much to like about Mazatlan. The location, a somewhat run-down strip mall, does not look especially inviting, but once you enter, you discover a huge venue full of locals, and a diligent and helpful waitstaff. They brought us chips, salsa, and water immediately, and we browsed the enormous menu. It is pretty standard fare, and the only disappointment was that there is no black-bean option on the sides. Service was brisk, the food was hot and delicious, and our waitperson had a wonderful sense of humor, which made each encounter a pleasure. Prices were also about what you'd expect for the selection. We have no complaints whatsoever. If you are looking for the usual Tex-Mex options, Mazatlan is fine. read more

Worst service I've EVER experienced. Shopped at grocery outlet next-door and decided to dine inside the bar afterwards. Waitress has the personality of a chapped ass- such a horrible attitude it's unbelievable. Took quite some time for her to even acknowledge myself & person I'm dining with. When she came to the table she spoke very abruptly and made no eye contact. Such a classless and rude disposition in a waitress. Asked for her name, as I'm writing this review. - "Tina" you're lucky I don't own the business you work for because you wouldn't have a job. Lucky for both of us I won't be returning. Note taken, not to worry. To the owner or manager of this restaurant, I hope you can choose more wisely who you hire. You might set up a camera and watch the disposition of this particular waitress. So disappointed. I wanted to like this restaurant. I did complain about the service to a young man working behind the bar. He said, well I guess we're kind of busy... Not that busy actually... Not fresh chips , not even heated. The waiter got 2 of the 4 orders wrong. FYI- may try an order book if you can't remember your orders! The chicken enchilada that one ordered.... Came with out chicken???? The Fajita salad- He made a Fiesta salad. It was uncooked veggies and just iceberg lettuce. Her sour cream and guac. were forgotten, also. 2 of us got a Burrito Fajita. The veggies in ours were chopped in very large pieces and were 1/2 cooked. Steak pieces were hard to find, as well. The waiter gave us a discount on the salad. Did not do ANYTHING to right the order that was completely missing meat, altogether. It was TERRIBLE SERVICE , TERRI BLE FOOD AND LEFT A LOT TO BE DESIRED. We have been going to this wonderful family owned restuarant for 23 years and it is always awesome. The #31 is my favorite and never dissapoints. VERY clean place, awesome service and the owners are wonderful. I use to work there years ago as a bartender and watched the two sons of the owners grow up. Order also the chili Colorado. The host who seated us was a nice older lady, didn't speak a word to us, just brought us to our seat - right next to the front door. The girl who brought us our water looked as though she hated her job - she didn't smile, and when she brought us a small basket of chips (I'm talking 20 chips) and salsa, there was only about 2 tablespoons of salsa in a bowl. She said, 'do you want more salsa' in a quite mono tone voice and I said 'sure' and again, she brought another bowl with about 2 tablespoons in it. We poured them into the same bowl and it didn't even fill it up half way.... okay, bad 1st impression. Their menu is like a novel - it is HUGE! about 10 pages in a 'book'. When our waiter came, I didn't even know where to look for drinks. I ended up ordering the jalapeno margarita, my husband got a beer, my oldest a kids margarita and my youngest a lemonade - the drinks took FOREVER to come, but they were good. The margarita was not spicy until the last couple sips, but it was still good. We ordered the queso to start off with. It came in a HUGE bowl, with, again, only about 20 chips. This was enough queso to feed 10 people, easily, and it was really good, but we had to ask for more chips. After we had finished the chips they provided, a girl came by, grabbed the plate and said I can take this - and I said "um, no, actually, can you bring us some more more chips, please' - the bowl of queso was almost completely full!!! I think their portions are way off. For our meals, my husband got the Molcajete - he really liked it, the sauce was DELICIOUS! I had the fish tacos - they were good, the sauce they serve with them was a spicy sour cream and I could have eaten that with everything on my plate! My youngest got the beef burrito - standard for a kids plate, although he was pretty sad that he didn't get any of the lettuce that everyone else got on their plates, and my oldest ordered a chicken and beef burrito - also a standard burrito. We also ordered a 'authentic' chile relleno, which was really really good! After placing our order, we did not see our waiter again until after our food came - about 30 minutes - and again, after he checked on us just a minute after getting our food, we did not see him again at all - we had to flag down a different waitress (who was VERY nice - the best employee we encountered the whole night!) for hot sauce, then boxes, and at that point, yet another waiter brought us our check, processed our credit card and told us to have a good night. In all the food was good, we had a ton of leftovers to take home, which made yummy breakfast burritos the following day - BUT their staff is not as attentive as they could be - if the staff had been better, I would have given 4 stars. Reasonably good food for a chain place that clearly caters to non-hispanics. I bought an Amazon local deal for this location about a month ago and finally used it today after work, trying out the brochette platter with NY strip, chicken breast and prawns. The steak and chicken were broiled perfectly juicy and seasoned nicely, but the prawns were slightly overcooked and had an oddly flavored coating I can't really describe. The rice and beans were average, the guac and pico was fairly good and the cocktail I ordered was kind of weak, but for the price paid I was happy and left very full. I'd recommend the place for lunch specials or if you can somehow get a discount as I feel the prices are somewhat high, which costs them a star. read more

I usually love Mazatlan. My favorite food and place to eat. But this particular location was horrible. We wandered in for lunch today, Friday - around 2pm, give or take an hour - and couldn't get any service. No hostess, nothing. There was a bartender who saw us before she continued serving drinks. She didn't motion us closer, call for a hostess, anything except ignore us. We wandered farther in and the booths were empty. There were no waitresses or anything. We double checked the hours. The open sign was lit up too. It was just bad service, as in NO service. Five minutes of waiting later, we left for the location in Bonney Lake, which was awesome, as usual. We will NEVER be visiting this Auburn location again. It was our first and last time. read more

Just watched the manager of the place make a girl cry at the take out counter because the girl said her order was wrong, and the manager actually starting yelling at the customer. Don't come here, awful service. I was absolutely disgusted, I can't believe that kind of behavior is acceptable in such a reputable branch. Never coming here again. read more

Went to this place on Wednesday. I had the steak ranchero, it was cooked to a perfect mid rare, food came out fast and the service was good.

We have frequented the Lakewood and Puyallup locations for the last 20 years and I don't think we've ever had a bad meal. this time we found ourselves in Auburn needing dinner and figured this was a reliable choice. Not so. The cheese crispy was soggy and not cut through, the Arroz con pollo was skimpy and since I ordered it without mushrooms I added rice (I don't like it soupy) and I couldn't believe it when they charged me for a little extra rice! The Chili Colorado sauce was weird, it was sorta sweet not the usual deep smokey flavor found in their Colorado sauce. Usually it's a dark brown but this was more red. We asked the busser to get our server at one point. He never showed up. Service and the kitchen was very slow and the restaurant was mostly empty. Our drinks were never refilled. We questioned the server about the charge for the rice and the excuse was he had not control, the computer does it.....really???? The dead plastic flowers in the tray ceiling need replacement and the lighting is bad. I tried to access their web site to send them a private message but it doesn't seem to work well. We won't go back to the Auburn location and we hope this isn't a sign of the things to come for the others. Mazatlan has always been consistent and really good.
