So disappointed.. We selected MC Fence because the other companies were less responsive. We told them we needed an exact match of the neighbor's fence and was told no problem. They arrived at scheduled date and the fence did not match. Fortunately, we caught it before it was installed. It was near Christmas, so when we were told it would take a few weeks before the new fence could be installed, we completely understood. Roll forward 2 weeks after Christmas, WE had to contact MC Fence. We were told basically, ooops, hadn't been ordered. 2 weeks later, now early Feb. KC came out to see what kind of fence to order. I told them at that time how frustrated we were and had actually chosen them because of their responsiveness. Two weeks pass, nothing. Finally, we reach out again and ask for an installation date or refund. We get a message indicating the fence is ordered, coming from FL and how it's an additional expense to them. We put our deposit down in November! We told them to either refund our deposit or give us a date. They came back with March 30th! I'm pretty sure I could have made the trip to FL and back several times. You would think with such a screw up, they would discount the fence, prioritize the installation or something. I can see why with 59 reviews MC Fence has only a three star rating. They were recommended to me by an Angie's list Program Adviser- on the phone. I received an email from MC Fence after this referring. It has a person's name, and was written in the first person; this is important as will later be explained. it was a standard email wanting to set up an appt at my home for both deck and a 170 ft vinyl fence. I had received quotes for other vendors already, but wanted one more. Doing my research on vinyl products, I could see that the quality of same varied considerably. I wanted to insure I knew who Mc Fence used as a supplier for their vinyl product BEFORE they came to my home and potentially wasted both of our times. So I asked for the information. The next day, I received exactly the same introductory email from them, indicating they had not read my email request. I replied that "I can see you did not read my email reply to your first email." The office manager replied that my reply was rude and disrespectful, and that the emails they sent were automated. Automated means it is generated without human action. If this were true, how would I know? There was no indication that it was automated. Typically an auto-generated email cannot be replied to. Who would invite a company to their home after name calling of this nature, and from an office person? I would be shocked if this attitude has not affected their business. If not, it should. I believe my email and questioning was completed above board, and logical. Definitely not "rude and disrespectful" I notified Angie's list management of this encounter. read more

While we're still happy with the overall quality of our fence, we've had several problems arise. Even with a special permit from our county zoning board, the fence is too tall. We bargained for a fence that is 6' or 7' tall depending on its location. What we got was a fence that is several inches (between 1" and 4") higher than those maximum heights in certain places. We are quite disappointed with that result. The county gave us some time to get it corrected. We contacted MC Fence in an attempt to have them correct their inaccurate measurements but were given the run around from the get go. It was remarkably difficult to get in touch with the right person (the sales manager), in part because they did not understand our request, and in part because they weren't returning our calls in a timely fashion. They claim to have been doing this for years and know the county codes but their actions prove otherwise. (Our county measures maximum fence height from the lowest point of the grade.) After we explained the situation, they offered us two options: (1) pay them another $1500 to trim the fence to an acceptable height; or (2) $350 for dirt to make the ground higher in an attempt to make the fence shorter when measured. Option 1 is laughable in light of the original cost of the fence, and the fact that the measurement was MC Fence's error. Option 2 is even worse -- the zoning ordinance even makes reference to that type of action. We said we expected it to be done at no cost as we paid for a 6' fence (and 7' in the back yard) and no higher. The sales manager said, they gave us 6' boards and that's what we paid for. But, in our sales contract, it specifically says we wanted a 6' fence with a capboard, etc. -- meaning the finished product would be 6', no higher. Why are we expected to pay for their mistake when they're the experts in building fences and knowing the various county codes? We took some time to consider those options, and called the sales manager directly to discuss further. We left him a voicemail, and he never returned our call. BUYER BEWARE! While the fence is nice, we certainly don't appreciate it being built too high. Please be aware of your county code and how the fence is measured so that you can ensure MC Fence does it right. They certainly won't help you after doing it wrong in a county that is a stickler for the rules. MC Fence's customer service is the most disappointing part of this situation. They were so eager to make the sale, but then unwilling to do anything within reason to address an issue of their creation. They didn't respond quickly, got very mean when we were trying to explain the situation, and just plain ignored us when we tried going higher than the sales manager. We'd recommend using another company... they may have a good price but their poor workmanship could lead to major problems in the future. read more

M.C. Fence and Deck was so easy to work with from beginning to end! We received three quotes for our deck, and they matched the lowest price, and generously added a custom wood baby gate for us. Jeff was awesome to work with, and the entire process ran so easy and smooth. They started exactly when promised and finished 2 days early. We are very pleased and highly recommend them! I wrote the above review based upon my experience with Jeff and the actual deck itself, but experiences since the completion of work have completely caused me to change my opinion of them, here's why: -We were so impressed with Jeff and the deck, that we recommended them to our neighbors for their fence and deck, and other neighbors used them as well. While they were working on our neighbors house, the crew hit our mailbox, knocked it down. No big deal they just needed to fix it! I spoke to the foreman onsite who said he would replace the mailbox for me that week. He never did. I called MC's office numerous times and was told for over three weeks that someone would be out that week to replace it. I finally got a hold of Mike Caldwell, the owner, and asked if they could just send someone to replace the mailbox like they said they would. He basically laughed, told me it was ridiculous that I was even asking for it, and it's not really his problem because it wasn't one of his employees who hit it, just a contractor. I quickly reminded him that we spent $15,000 on a deck and I would think he would want to keep us happy. He was honestly one of the rudest and most flippant small business owners I have ever spoken to, but he agreed to send a crew out to fix the mailbox. Needless to say two months later, no one has still ever come. -After that experience we spoke to our neighbors who used them as well, and they were all far less than impressed with the service they received, and each had their own individual issues they were trying to track them down to fix. -Since we initially had a good experience I referred them to my mom who is building a new deck and patio. They had 2 different appointments scheduled, one of which was cancelled and the rescheduled one- no one showed up for. She called numerous times requesting them to come give a quote, but they never came. So what started out as a great experience ended up crappy- over a $25 mailbox. They need to learn a little customer service goes a long way. If you expect a contractor to communicate with you and follow through with promises, this is NOT the company for you. read more

We had M&C put a deck on the back of our house. Beautiful Work. Love the end results. Work was scheduled in a reasonable amount of time and done within the time frame promised. What made us decide to use M&C was the gentlemen who designed our deck. Compared to other companies the experience with him was far more professional and reassuring. When he visited our home he drew the deck up right in front of us, and explained his reasoning. He gave us some direction, which we needed. He displayed great professionalism. Their prices start off high but then discounts are taken. We are considering using them again for a patio because now we know how they work. But we have some concerns which I'll outline below and offer some advice based on our experience. Here is why we don't give them a 5. The professionalism starts to fall apart after you sign the contact. When spending the amount of money we did, we expect communication. Instead of getting into details here is a summary of our gripes. 1. Lack of communication 2. Make sure you call during business hours, we only ever had one voice mail message returned. 3. They offer financing, but they also offer a discount if you pay cash. However, if you use a credit card to pay (ya know to get the points on your credit card), there is a 3% processing fee. Which is mentioned in the fine print, admittedly I didn't read. 4. They didn't discuss the processing fee with me or tell me how much it would be. They just charged it. 5. Contractors smoked on the job - we cleaned up the cigarette butts 6. Clean up - unused materials left for weeks after job was completed. 7. They ask you to be present when the deck is started and when the deck is completed. We took the first day off, we were told the guys would be back to start. At some point during the day it was decided that no work would be completed the first day due to rain. No one told us. (It wasn't raining where we were) 8. We have yet to have the complete walk through and sign off. No one called us concerning the completion of the work. 9. The end product is different than what was originally design. Not greatly, but worth mentioning. I did call to discuss these items with them and they were nice about it. But communication did not improve. They did refund the credit card processing fee. As an update, we had the deck installed june of 2015. September of 2015 we heard from out town office. I can only guess a neighbor complained about our deck. Turns out the deck was over built, not built to what we agreed upon. Not built to what was submitted to the town. Also, they MC fence formerly MC fence and deck fordged my signature on documents to the town office. Wheni called and spoke to Mike he wouldnt listen to me. Yelled at me, to get me off yhe phone he said he would call me back with the resolution. Never did. I probably wouldnt have otherwise updated this account. But everytime i look at our deck i remember this horrible experience. It erks me this happened. read more

Recently, a neighbor was kind enough to obtain quotes from various companies for fences for three adjacent homes. Once the quote was received from MC Fence and Deck, the neighbors then agreed to have the fences installed, we each went about contacting MC Fence and Deck to have the installation arranged. The first neighbor got the agreed upon price. When I called I was told the price of wood had gone up so they would not honor the price they provided a month earlier and it was now almost 25% higher ($1000). Since I was in a time crunch, I reluctantly agreed and had the installation. Fence is fine... standard wood fence (even though the workers left a mess). About three weeks after the installation, I received a quote of $125 plus parts ($15 per spring) to install gate springs to keep the gates closed. When i wrote back to schedule the install (which should have cost $185), I was told that they could do the installation for $485. I advised them they literally just quoted me less than half that. I then followed with an email telling them that I don't appreciate being treated like a sucker and a company should value its customers rather than try to take advantage of them. Of course, the rep for the company wanted to argue the point saying the price of springs had gone up... the service call prices varied... the crews usually charge more, etc... blah blah blah. The bottom line is they got caught obviously trying to take advantage of me (seriously... $485 to install four $15 dollar springs... a $400 profit... ). Check reviews on this site for this company under their old address. Their business practices are shameful and adding insult to injury they tried to justify charging $485 to install 4 springs... that cannot be justified. AVOID. read more

The fence is beautiful, and both the salesperson and building crew were very nice and professional. However, the salesperson's lack of attention to detail led him to tell him that they could do something that turned out to not be possible. We found this out from the crew during the installation and contacted the sales rep who was very apologetic. We asked for some compensation due to his oversight. He told us that he could not donanything and to contact Melissa the Production Manager which we immediately did in Tuesday. We had to call back 3 days later on Friday since she never returned our call. She returned this call and said that she would contact us at the beginning of the following week to arrange a meeting to inspect the issue. She never called. i called her the following Friday and left another message. That waa 5 days ago, and she has not returned my second call. Obviously I made the mistake of paying in full for the job when it was complete. If you use this company, don't pay the balance until all of your concerns have been addressed and resolved because their customer service appears to end once they get their money. read more

My good experience with them continued with K.C. came to give me an estimate; he quickly proved that he knew his stuff when it came to fencing and was sensitive to HOA restrictions and other details of the job. He worked with me to design a creative solution to a special request I had and gave me a detailed quote on the spot. When it came time to do the job, the crew showed up on time, and worked quickly and courteously. As promised, the job was completed in one day. They used top-quality materials and, having built fences myself before, I can say their workmanship was far beyond what I could have done myself and their pricing was very fair. This is the third time we have used MC Fence and we cannot say enough good things about this company. We had KC come out and give us an estimate for removing one side of our fence and rebuilding it closer to our actual property line. This was board-on-board with a dip and gothic posts. The job was not as easy as it sounds because it involved boxing in a huge oak tree. We got the estimate the next day and work was able to be scheduled one week later (today). The crew arrived early this a.m. and was done by 2 p.m. What continues to amaze us about MC Fence is that they are committed to customer satisfaction. They build a product of exceptional quality that is right the first time and they do it without any drama. It is actually very interesting to watch how they go about their business. The crew is very methodical in their approach and they check and recheck before they start digging the posts to make sure all is correct. The crew members were very respectful of our property -- being careful not to walk on perennials that had popped up from the ground and cleaning up after themselves. Except for the newness of the wood, you can hardly tell they have been here today. So, the bottomline is if you want to be 100% satisfied with your new fence and not have any anxiety in the process or after the fact: HIRE MC FENCE. They hit a pipe on my sprinkler system, but repaired it immediately and kept me apprised of the issue (I was a work). They even sent a picture. We can't speak highly enough of MC Fence. We've worked with 15+ companies and contractors (while renovating our home), and MC Fence is by far the best company that we've ever worked with. We wish they did more than fencing! Initially, we had three estimates to install a 3-board horse fence. The proposal by MC fence was the most reasonable in terms of cost, and they were the most proactive in finding us the best fence material, design and layout for our property and budget. The gentlemen who performed the initial estimate (K.C.) was a pleasure to work with. He came by multiple times to refine the project details, and again on the day of installation to walk the perimeter with us and a journeyman who was on site the entire time. The installation crew was friendly, professional, reliable and very efficient from start to finish. The installation around the first acre was complete in a day! We asked them to delay the second half of the installation for a few months, and they were extremely flexible and accommodating with the change in scheduling. Above all, they do quality work......the fence and gates are expertly built, and they found the straightest line around a number of large trees and along a slightly wandering road. MC fence even skillfully removed pavement in a number of places with perfect cuts. They also had extra materials delivered for the second installation, so they could pick from the best pieces (and skip over any that were discolored or slightly warped). They exceeded our expectations in every aspect of the project, and we've gotten dozens of complements on our fence already. If you plan to install a fence in northern Virginia, we would highly recommend giving MC fence a call first. read more

I would have like to have given them a better review, and to be honest, would have chosen no stars if that was an option. I decided to use them even though their quote was higher than the other contractor I got a quote from - what a mistake. Although for the most part, the fence they installed looks fine, there were several things that were not done right, or as promised. When I reached out to the VP of Sales (who provided our quote and worked with us at first), to let him know that there were some things I wasn't happy about, he did ask me to call him, but unfortunately it was a hectic day and I couldn't call at the moment he wanted me to. I did call him back later that afternoon, got his voicemail, left a message, but never got a return call. It turns out, that rather than a return call, he was angry because I also copied their "info" email address with my list of issues. This didn't sit well with him, so rather than act professionally, he sent an email back, berating me, as the Customer. This was not only extremely unprofessional, but unacceptable. I responded, and told him that I didn't wish to continue the back and forth, and I haven't heard from him since. So, rather than be professional, and deliver the quality he claims is of utmost importance, it's easier just to ignore it. Had they just stepped up and addressed my concerns, this review would have been much different. If you choose to use them, make sure that you push them to ensure Miss Utility has marked properly. Although Miss Utility came out and marked out property, and MC Fence says that they got an "all clear" report, the install crew managed to cut our FIOS cable. Leaving us with no internet and tv for 2 days. read more

I had a simple white vinyl privacy fence installed by MC Fence. Their estimate process was quick and painless. I wasn't even home and got an estimate via email. When some of my initial emails to Nick went unanswered after receiving the estimate, I called the main office and Nick promptly returned my call that evening and stayed in constant contact via email throughout the rest of the project. The fence was supposed to be installed on a Thursday, but when I arrived home that evening, nothing had been done. When I called, said they forgot to call miss utility in time and would be there first thing Monday morning. True to their word, the fence was completed and looked great when I got home Monday. Of 3 estimates I received they were the lowest, and used comparable materials and workmanship (aluminum inserts for the gate post). Nick was also very helpful in answering questions and assisting with my HOA application, and were able to get my job completed within a week of my HOA approval. Despite the slight delay and initial lack in communication (only reason for not receiving 5 stars), they took responsibility for their error, made it right, and still got it done quickly. As a result, I am very pleased with their work and would recommend them for your fencing needs. read more

I would highly recommend NOT using this company. This was the worst experience I've ever had with a company. The sales person (KC-the VP) was very persuasive and promised a wonderful product and great customer service experience, but boy was he wrong!! We contracted for a 17x12 Trex deck and for those that don't know the price of decks, this was the third most expensive purchase I've made (behind a house and car), so a very big decision on who to contract with, to say the least. We ended up with a deck that was actually only 12 feet wide on a Six foot section of the deck. The rest of the deck was only 10 feet wide!! We contacted the deck manager, Jeff, on a Friday afternoon about the massive discrepancy in size. He got very defensive on the phone and said that we would talk about it Monday morning. He showed up at my house on Monday morning, with his McDonald's coffee cup in hand, and slouched over the railing on my front porch and said that even though the deck is only 12 feet wide on a six foot section, that we got the 17x12 deck we contracted for (HUH?????). He was incredibly rude and would NOT admit to any wrongdoing. I asked to speak to the manager and he said it wouldn't do me any good because management would take his side. Later that day I received an email from the company with a revised invoice (of course I refused to pay the balance to Jeff since we clearly did not get what we contracted for). The invoice included a discount (an absolute admission of guilt on the company's behalf). However, I was not satisfied with the discounted amount, as I didn't think it was adequate in rectifying the space we lost, so I contacted a lawyer. My lawyer sent an email and mailed a letter to the attention of the president of the company, Mike Colwell, but we never heard from him. Instead our lawyer heard from KC who basically said that they would not increase our discount because it would cause them to not be profitable. What a disgraceful company. Do NOT use them. read more
