I hired Dan and Wilber from Loudoun Deck and Fence to do my back landing and small lattice. I met up with Dan during summer and told him I will also be doing a patio and he gave me some recommendations on ways I can cut costs which was very nice and unlike many other contractors who just like to upsell. I ended up completing the project last week and he kept the prices the same as it was in the summer when we met. Dan sent his team last Monday to start the project, it was completed on Thursday. When they were completed, there were some minor concerns which I shared with Mary Ann, the office manager who conveyed it to Dan. Dan came back the following day to see what was wrong. He even came back on Saturday when I was home before I was having a get together and helped me clean the deck and left his hose for me to use. Dan then sent the crew back on Monday and fixed all my concerns and even did me a favor and power washed some siding and patio which was dirty from my get together. Wilber did a phenomenal job on my lattice. Turned out better than I expected. I will definitely use Loudoun Deck and Fence again for my next project. read more

With my experience in construction work, it was an absolute joy to watch someone who obviously took great pride in their work. The crew treated my home as if it was their own. When they had completed my new deck and had gone the only thing in my yard was my deck. No trash, empty water bottles, or refuse of any kind. You may have to wait awhile before your job comes up on their calendar, but believe me when I say it is well worth the wait. Do you want the work done fast, or do you want it done right? Want to give a shout out to Loudoun Deck & Fence. They just completed a new deck for me and I cannot say enough good things about this company. Dan, owner came out and looked at our old deck and I explained what I was looking for. He took a couple of hours to explain the procedure and what was involved in constructing a new deck in the materials I wanted. After our HOA approved, Loudoun Deck &Fence secured a permit and built the most beautiful deck I have ever seen. The crew was totally professional and worked very hard with just a lunch break. They were diligent in measuring and installing from beginning to end. After completion they cleaned up not leaving a speck of dirt, paper, shavings, etc. I am so impressed with this company and I highly recommend them. I had interviewed several different companies and decided to go with them because of the time Dan spent answering all our questions and offering various suggestions. The price was mid-range but the job was high end. If you are ever in the market for new deck you should give them a call I am sure you will be as pleased with them as we are. We had them build a deck and fence in 2018 and both have been great! Dan came out to do the estimate and we definitely got the impression that he knew what he was talking about -- they didn't just send a sales guy to come butter us up. He talked me out of a double door fence because over time the ground would settle (especially for new construction) and I really didn't need it, I just thought it was a cool idea. Instead, he offered to make one of the sections next to the gate removable and that satisfied all my worries about getting large things through the backyard. Communication could have been better, though. I didn't know when exactly they were coming to build the fence, I just went to work one day and came home to surprise fence. Also, the deck guys tripped my breaker and ended up using their own generator. If they had just talked to me, I could have flipped it back on for them -- I didn't realize until the weekend when I went to use my electric trimmer. Both were small things that did not take away from enjoyment of my beautiful deck and fence. If I had to do it all over again, I would without a doubt choose them again. read more

Edited to add that we noticed some boards on the fence were not secure and starting to warp. We immediately called to report it and asked to have someone come back out to secure the boards. I received a reply that someone would get in touch. Here we are 3 weeks later and no one has contacted us. My husband ended up securing the boards, which he could have done to begin with, but we spent a lot of money that it would have been nice to have Loudoun Deck and Fence make good on the mistake. I won't be recommending them. The way they handle customers by pushing them off to other people is not the way I like to do business. I realize this is a busy time of year, but to not respond at all is just not ok. read more

This is one of those reviews where I would like to give two separate "scores". I am giving 5 stars to Dan, the company's owner and MaryAnn, the office manager for their professionalism, diligence and overall customer service. Dan was all about making a customer happy and MaryAnn took care of all the admin requirements. They both communicated with me well and answered all my questions. The deck (overall) came out nice. The design, the colors and material (trex) is what I wanted and I have no issue with it. What I question and what I am not very happy about is the quality of work performed by a subcontractor that Dan used to actually build my deck. After the crew finished the deck, I noticed that caps on all the postings where not fastened down. I called MaryAnn and she sent someone to fix it. A few weeks went by and I noticed that on the steps where they put nails in, they never applied the buttons or caulk to cover the nails. Basically you had black dots very visible on white surface. In most places they did cover the nails, but not on the steps. Again, I called the office and they sent someone to correct the sloppy work. Now, several months after the deck was built, I noticed that the original plastic cover that was on the material used to build the deck was never taken off- so now the plastic is peeling off by itself and it looks just awful (please see the photos). I am tired of calling them to fix their work. I am going to peel the plastic off myself, but I am wondering what's next? This deck was not a cheap project for me. I decided to go with Trex instead of wood so that I didn't have to spent time and money maintaing and fixing it at least for few years. It is disappointing to see that the execution of the deck took away from the company's great design and good intention. read more

I'm not sure about the quality of work that this company provides but communication seems to be an issue from my experience. I submitted a request for an estimate thru Angie's List. Mary Ann responded stating that Wilbert would reach out to schedule the estimate. Wilbert and I scheduled the estimate for an agreed upon time. 30 minutes into the appointment window, Wilbert still did not show up. I eventually reached out to him to see if I should still expect him. We rescheduled to the following Saturday. Friday night around 9pm, I received an email from Wilbert requesting to come at a different time. I eventually told him to cancel the appointment and he replied yes. In the afternoon, I received a text from him asking for directions to my house. My request to cancel was obviously seen if he was able to reply yes. read more

I would give more stars if possible. They replaced our deck in 2016 and after 2 years, the transformer for the deck lights stopped working. They replaced it free of charge. That transformer lasted another two years until it eventually died too. Yesterday, they again replaced it with a better designed one, transformer and timer combined, free of charge. Their website says "QUALITY. HONESTY. INTEGRITY" and they live it! Now I see why they were voted "Best of Loudoun" in 2020. If you have a problem with Loudoun Deck and Fence, look in the mirror for the root cause. read more

Can't say enough good things about these guys! From start to finish they made the process so easy. Dan came out to my house and walked me through the entire plan for my deck/fence and even showed me the 3D sample of what it would look like. I received quotes from a few different places and this was by far the best. So after we decided to move forward they dropped off sample Trex colors the very next day for us to choose from. Maryann was a pleasure to work with she was very attentive and responded to my emails/calls almost immediately as did Dan. I was really worried about having this done before my baby shower but MaryAnn and Dan assured me they would make it happen and I am happy to say I have a completed deck and fence all ready to use this weekend. Rating 1 star for awful communication. Called on a Monday to request an estimate and was told I would be contacted within a day. On Thursday I called back requesting an update and was told I would be called back that day (specifically a call and not an email). Received an email on Friday with some basic info which I responded with and did not hear back from again. I'm trying to give you my business and money, why would you not respond to me? If you can't communicate then why should I trust you to do fence work for me? This company needs to get itself together if they want to stay in business. read more

I submitted a request for a fence estimate via their website. At some point during that process they state that you can expect to hear back from them in a few days. Well, a few days went by so I called to see when an estimator would be coming out. Turns out my neighbor happened to call them as well so they were trying to find a time when we would both be available. I understand trying to gain efficiencies, but at least call and tell me what's going on. The estimator came out on a Saturday (9/8) morning. He was there right when he said he would be and was very helpful and informative discussing our options. My neighbor and I told him what we were looking to have done, with a few possible variations. He told us he'd have an estimate to us by Monday (9/10) and if we didn't hear from him just send an email. Well, Thursday (9/13) came and went without a word so I sent an email. No response to this day. My neighbor call and left a VM, which was never returned. I saw a fence they built in our neighborhood that looked very nice...it was the reason I called them. I guess they're just too busy to bother contacting interested clients. Good for them if that's the case, but in a day and age when customer service really sets companies apart from one another, Loudoun Deck and Fence obviously has none. My rating is based solely on their customer service. I cannot comment on the quality of work they provide, but I'm glad we found someone else. If we did have a problem once construction started I can only imagine the headache it might have become. Yesterday at noon I met with a different contractor. This morning I had a proposal in hand. Their fences and decks are all over my neighborhood. The owner, Dan, came to my house, used his laptop to construct a model of our deck, made the changes we asked for, and gave us a very fair package deal on a deck and fence. He went into detail on the different types of boards and even met us at the lumber yard so we could see the board colors in a large setting. The only complaints I read in other posts are tied to his company being so popular that they sometimes don't follow up on requests. BTW, I got three quotes. I called to get a deck request (my neighbor wanted one, too) and was told they were busy but would get back to me within 36 hours. The person who took my call, Mary, said they knew exactly where my address was bc Dan was building a deck a few houses down that very week! More than 2 weeks later, still nothing. I understand being too busy to take on new projects, but please just be honest about it and have the courtesy not to leave potential customers hanging. Very unprofessional, and just plain rude. MaryAnn who answered the phone was very pleasant as was Dan the owner, who personally came out to give us an estimate on both our deck and fence repair. Our repairman Clint was on time and professional, and worked extremely hard in the 100 degree heat. I was impressed by their prompt service, quality and professionalism. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Loudoun Deck & Fence. I contacted them regarding the demolition of our existing deck and replacement with a significantly larger deck. I called in March, knowing that the busy spring season was almost upon us. They were quick to come out and give me an estimate. Their price was fantastic and they didn't try to charge me extra for having to cut through our existing patio. The quote was valid for 30 days. We finally contracted with them and that is when the two straight weeks of rain began. Mary Ann was aware that I was anxious to have the deck completed before the birth of our child at the end of May. The delays from all the rain made me quite anxious. She made a point to get us on the list as quickly as possible. Carlos and his crew were finally able to come on a Friday and demolished the old deck. They came back the next day and began the process of cutting through our existing flagstone patio to install new footers. We had agreed that my husband and I would be responsible for repairing the patio because I didn't want to pay extra to have them fix it. They worked through wind and rain getting the footers installed. By the time we came home on Monday, we had a brand new, gorgeous deck. The biggest surprise was when we looked at the patio. Carlos and his crew had returned it to it's original condition. The flagstone pieces were carefully fitted as best they could. With the exception of one small (6") square, the patio looks as good as it did before. I was so pleased and surprised. They went the extra mile to restore our patio and give us our new deck. Carlos and his crew were quick, meticulous, and cleaned up the entire backyard. You would never know that so much rock and clay had been dug up. I cannot say enough good things about my experience. Final inspection and approval from the county came through just days before the birth. Mary Ann and Dan kept their promise to have our new deck done in time. I needed to get my deck replaced (due to age) and also wanted to add an extension to make it bigger so I got several quotes and decided to use Loudoun Deck and Fence. I was very happy with the service, craftsmanship and attention to detail. I had a couple requests that were unusual and only had to ask once and they were done. I wanted the railing lower to the deck (for a small dog) than is standard and it was done right the first time with no issue. I also asked to match the direction of the boards on the stairs landing to the direction of the boards of the deck. Done, no issue. The owner came out numerous times and he and his crew were very pleasant to deal with. The overall experience surpassed my expectation and I would use them again in a heartbeat and I would also recommend them to my friends. read more

I called then and asked for a estimate for a fence. Jarrod came out and looked at my yard. We did agree on a price. The problem started when I did not receive the new quote back from Jarrod. I called the office and Mary Ann had jarrod call me. I explained to her that he was also a bit unprofessional and sent some condescending emails prior to all this. I passed this off as he was maybe a bit rough around the edges. Which come to when I received the proposal and I was told by jarrod that there was my proposal and he was not signing off on it until I called his office and apologized for being a fucking liar. Yes those words were used. He then proceeds to tell me that I can go fuck myself and my business because I refuted that I certainly was not apologizing because he had poor communication skills. Jarrod told me that Dan the owner does not care about my business and that they care about building decks. He then asked me where I was so he could come to my house and kick my ass. I will also say I said some angry words prior to him threatening me due to the fact that he was cursing me and saying nasty things. I have never been treated so unprofessionally and talked to by someone in any industry. I was told he has never had complaints but funny enough that the very next company I called. Jarrod worked there and was fired for being disrespectful to women and threatening to kill the owner. I WOULD STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! Our old deck was built about 20 years ago, and while we planned to eventually replace it, it wasn't something we were expecting to do this year. Unfortunately with all the rain it was starting to rot badly on the floor and railings. We spoke with several companies and this was the only one who gave us a quote on site, and didn't try to up sell us on something we couldn't afford. They also provided a 3D image so we could get a good visual of how the new layout would look with our house and provided design advice to help us achieve a space we could really enjoy. Dan kept our budget in mind and gave us an option with highest quality materials and a practical design that has made our backyard so much more usable. We love our new deck and our two small children finally have a space to play in out back. The old deck was so big it took over the entire space, but now it feels like we have an actual yard.
