One star is too many! ***BRIDES AND THOSE PLANNING WEDDING STAY AWAY!!!*** I would never recommend anybody to work with the owner of this place. Very rude on the phone, will not work with anybody. Also- as it will be raining on the day my bride takes her bridal portrait, she wanted to have a photo shot inside and to market the business. He refused to let us take one photo for her big day. I even offered $100 for ONE PHOTO and he was a flat out jerk. Take your needs elsewhere if looking for a florist! I wasn't impressed with this place at all and it doesn't surprise me reading the negative comments about the owner because the lady who was working there wasn't very kind to me either. Maybe customer service isn't their thing? I came here wanting a floral arrangement for my friend and was surprised to only see about 5 different type of flowers that didn't look too fresh. The lady told me that they had an unusually busy week and they usually have more options and since I've only been there once that could have very much been true. The arrangement cost way more than I would have liked it to and it didn't even look all that good. My fiancé ordered me a beautiful flower arrangement one day "just because" from McPhail. Because he's incapable of planning in advance :) he called McPhail on his lunch break and asked if they could just throw an arrangement together for around $30. By 3pm, they made a gorgeous arrangement of lillies and snapdragons w/ a beautiful pink rose in the middle. After a little prodding, he told me that he only spent $30 and I was even more amazed! In my experience of ordering flowers from other places (usually for birthdays & mother's day), I've never seen such large & beautiful arrangements for that price. Very impressed. My brother ordered and had an arrangement sent to me from McPhail and the flowers were gorgeous! I was (and am) very happy with the flowers. I received them on Thursday and they are still blooming, full, and doing great. Could not be happier. He found them on-line and was nervous as sometimes you don't know what you will get and I assured him this place was fantastic. I had a 1-day procedure at a hospital, and a friend from work picked me up afterwards (they wouldn't let me drive). I stopped at McPhail's a few days later to get her some flowers as a thank-you gift. I really wish I could remember the name of the potted plant I got her, but it had purple flowers and was really pretty. And smelled good, too. The lady put it in a nice basket, and found a box I could carry it in so it didn't tip over in my truck. I was pleased with both the flower and the service, and the person I got it for also liked it. McPhail's McFailed me. I received a $90 Teleflora calla lily arrangement arranged by McPhail. The order had specified bronze calla lilies, but I received purple. It was a birthday present that had been specifically chosen because those are my favorite variety of callas. (A phone call or email indicating that the chosen flowers weren't available would have been nice.) The arrangement was less than fresh looking when delivered to my workplace, and looked downright wilted by that afternoon. The hydrangea in the vase was brown. I worked as a floral clerk in high school and I'm pretty sure that's not standard. I called McPhail's and the young woman was very polite but refused to do anything to replace the arrangement or otherwise compensate me. read more

Very disappointed. I ordered my daughter the Fashionista Bouquet for her birthday and paid $70.00 plus delivery for it. What she got was wilted and looked nothing like the picture. It DID NOT include: green hudrangea, yellow carnations, mini gerberas, yellow carnations or green button spray chrysanthemums. It DID NOT include a gathering vase or a chartreuse taffeta ribbon and pink raffia. All of these things were stated in the description. Rex of McPhail florist has treated me wonderfully over the last few years. He provided the flowers for my wedding, did an amazing job using seasonal flowers, and charged an excellent price. Subsequently I have used him occasionally in the Austin area, when I need to send my in-laws flowers. I just give Rex a number amount I want to spend and he sends over an amazing bouquet that gets me all kinds of brownie points :) My in-laws have also called McPhail florist to send my parents flowers in NY. McPhails calls a florist in NY and coordinates in sending over the most wonderful holiday bouquets, which I believe, is of McPhail's own design. Highly recommend!!! read more

My brother ordered a delivery for my birthday in February. Due to a snafu, they were not delivered, nor did they let him know. He called the florist (from Hong Kong) and they delivered a plant a week later. The plant, although beautiful, came with no instructions nor name of the plant.It started dying almost immediately. I tried different areas of light to no avail. It is now fully dead. I called the florist and told him that the plant was dead. He told me it was a winter plant (?). I have had rare occasions with floral arrangements dying before their time in the past, and the flowers were promptly replaced. This guy said "I don't think I can help you. You sound mad at nature". Ridiculous man. A live plant should survive longer than 3 weeks. Will never shop there nor recommend. Mc FAIL. read more

I hired Mc Phail for my wedding and that was a HUGE mistake. All the info I gave him he wrote notes on the back of a receipt.... that he himself had trouble reading. I talked to him and explained what I wanted, emailed him pictures and of what I wanted did him do. When he arrived to the venue the day of the wedding he was in a hurry to get to another wedding and was rude to my wedding coordinator! When I saw my bouquet I almost cried! I was furious at the shitty ass job! The flowers that he told me where coming from Peru where yellow and withered! This included the groom and his grooms men's boutonnières! My bouqueté was so ugly and heavy that my wedding coordinator had to find scissors and cut some of the old hanging flowers off and modify It. The ribbon I provided him and showed him pics of how I wanted It he did not do, the head table arrangement was not what I specified I wanted! It was ugly and ALL THE FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS WERE NOT PROPORTIONATE!! I hated his work I give It zero stars! I emailed him and he never responded. Poor customer service. He told me he had like 50 years experience so I trusted he would at least do an acceptable job..... He did not. Do not hire this crabby man unless you want to deal with shitty work, bad attitude and poor customer service. Because of this I will have to redo my wedding pics and hire another florist and pay for everything to be redone for pics including hair and makeup. Rex...... YOU SUCK!!! read more

I was very disappointed when I saw the flowers I sent our friend who was in the hospital. Since I asked for a very "Christmas" type arrangement, it was a surprise to see the flowers in a clear vase without so much as a bow! Wow! Not that many flowers either. Terribly rude service is the only problem i had with them. They were not available for my wedding flower order, so I can only comment on the initial service. At 1:00 pm (weekday) when they had an "open" sign in an unlocked door, I walked in and inquired about wedding flowers for a weding 2-weeks out. The only person in the florist was on the phone for about five minutes without acknowledgement and seemed irritated that I waited in their lobby. She informed me that they were not open on the holidays to accommodate our wedding date, so that was it and I left. I called central market and I'm so glad I did . McPhails is old school elegant. i worked for a florist in college and this place is the real deal. The building looks old on the outside but don't let that scare you away. They are true artists. They have done flowers for my grandmother, best friends, clients, a wedding and a funeral. All were amazing high quality, New york, L.A. style arrangements. WORST customer service. Will not only not recommend them but will go out of my way to tell people not to use them.

Wow. I stopped in there today to ask them if they'd be willing to sell me at a discount any older flowers, i.e. the ones that would likely end up in a dumpster soon, for a memorial the following day for a homeless individual who had passed away. We wanted him to have a beautiful and dignified memorial yet we were on a very small budget. I had specifically sought out McPhail's as he lived for years nearby and I also thought as a local business they may have some compassion for their neighbors...or maybe just a sense of community. And, as stated, I was offering to pay for older flowers. The woman working was incredibly rude and cold. Beyond cold. She informed me that they "don't have flowers like that" and shut me down immediately. I did not expect them to shower me in exotic flowers but expected a little warmth and compassion, even if declining my request. What kills me is that I can only imagine they don't use 100% of their flowers every single night so I'd suspect some will go to waste instead of a good cause. read more

I met with, who I assume, is the owner of McPhails to place an order for a bridal bouquet a week before I needed the flowers. I only needed the one large bouquet for a photoshoot and he said it would ready when I came to pick it up in the morning, the following week. When I got to the shop that morning, the same man who took my order a week ago informed me that the bouquet had not been made. He said someone must have misplaced the order and that he could have it ready in 15 minutes if I waited. So I did wait and it actually took about 20 minutes. I had a shoot to get to and this was making me late. He then made me pay full price ($55 for sunflowers) and when I asked why I should have to pay full price when he messed up, he replied in a very rude tone, "Well, you got your product didn't you?". I would never recommend this place to anyone and will never use them again. I am a wedding photographer in Austin and this experience is enough to convince me to warn all my brides not to use this place. Don't let the awesome green building fool you! read more
