McAlister's Deli in Richmond continues to be one of my favorite places to eat. Every visit is a great experience thanks to the outstanding team they have in place. A special thank you to Nancy, the manager, who does an excellent job leading the restaurant and creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests. Katie and Marcie at the front counter are always friendly, professional, and make customers feel appreciated from the moment they walk in. In the kitchen, Matt and Jason consistently prepare fresh, high-quality food and keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. The restaurant is clean, the service is fast, and my orders are always accurate. It's clear that this team takes pride in what they do, and that level of care makes a difference. Excellent salads and sandwiches. The rewards program is awesome. Customer service excellent. I had a question about the meat on my sandwich and the manager responded to me personally. For fast food, McAllister's does a fantastic job of serving real food. My only concern would be the fact that tables are never bused or cleaned. While the dinning room is very large, nobody wants to sit near a filthy table. Minus one star. read more

I have recently started working in Richmond again and McAlister's was one of my go to places for lunch when I worked there in the past. As I am revisiting my old haunts and this place was solid in my return. I had the Choose 2 with a spud max and chicken salad sandwich. My only complaint is my croissant was a touch over toasted, but overall it was a great experience. The chicken salad does have many things added (cranberries and pecans) it is still tasty with a good mayo/chicken ratio. The spud max is great, hot fluffy baked potato! I forgot to tell them to leave off the scallions and ask for extra butter, but that is on me. It was an easy and tasty lunch in a clean and friendly environment. It is one of the few fast food places that still serve a baked potato, so I will be back! read more

Stopped in for lunch with a friend, and it was a great experience! I had the French Dip, which had fresh crusty bread and lots of meat. My friend had half a Rueben with half a Berry salad. The 1/2 salad almost covered her plate! The server was extremely helpful and polite. We will definitely be back to try other items soon. read more

Oct 8 I found a LONG curly hair in my salad dressing! I went up to the young lady in the front and told her about it and she was vet kind and apologized for the mix up and tried to send it back to the kitchen but there was no one back there! She had to go to the back and get it herself! I really appreciate her doing that but it was very frustrating she had to do because there was no kitchen staff! Bread regardless of type has been stale both times I have ordered. The sandwich ingredients are tasty but a bit skimpy for a true "Deli" style sandwich. Toasted or Grilled items are better quality taste. I will stick with Grilled Rueben. read more

5 star rating from the youngest offspring : "5 stars because it's more than delicious" I'd only eaten at McAllister's when a coworker brought it back to the office and i wasn't super thrilled, I'm glad we stopped by today! We arrived really early, looking for a snack while waiting on our car to get tires put on. The kids weren't pleased with any place that was opened and it was well before 11. We walked around until McAllister's opened. The kids grabbed cheese pita pizzas from the kids meal- really large portion and came with cinnamon graham snacks. They also insisted on carrot cake, they didn't have to nudge me too much, I might have planted the seed by showing them the dessert pictures. while my youngest wasn't a fan of the nuts- he quite enjoyed the icing with his graham crackers. I grabbed the 2 for 7.69- the spud max sans olives and the BLT+A. I was expecting a small amount of food and it was much more than I could eat! The halfwich was fantastic! I love toasted sandwiches- the bacon was crispy, the avocado was soft, and whatever the sauce on it really brought it together. The spud was huge and really delicious - lots of meat and melty cheese. I got the sour cream and green onions on the side so my kids would try it. Favorite part of the meal- the freakin' pickle!!! Y'all this pickle had me doing the Winnie the Pooh dance. If I could, I would leave zero stars. The food comes out cold due to them leaving it in the window for them to take to the table when it's ready, but instead the cooks stand around and talk with the manager. This place has went down hill. It needs new management and better cooks. Broccoli is hard, the spud was lukewarm. This place is in need of help! This is a good place to eat! It is definitely small and you might not think of it as much. But you walk in and order and you are already impressed. They are very kind!!! They give you a number and then you pick you're own seat. It was not very busy so we got seated quick. Our food was out like 5-10 minutes later!!! That was quick! The food was great I got the chili and fresh fruit the fruit was good and so was the chili. They did not give me enough crackers for my liking. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! It has an OK atmosphere. I ordered a Reuben with a side of tomato & onion salad. Reuban was fine but the salad was a very small helping & mushy... it seemed like it was made 3 days ago. Took it to counter to exchange it for something else. Decided to upgrade (and pay the difference) for Mac & Cheese but they could not figure out how to charge me for it so they "comped" it (which was nice). I got a very similar, very small, portion that looked AWFUL right off the bat. I actually did a double take because I wasn't sure if it even really was Mac & Cheese. I was hoping that it was just me and that it would taste better than it looked. It absolutely did NOT. Sort of cold and sort of a mush cheese and over cooked wet noodle combo that, again, seemed like it was made a week ago (and these were simply left overs from then). It was so bad that when I returned to my table with them (I said nothing about them to the others I was sitting with) my lunch mate said they looked like mashed potatoes. Truth is that my lunch mate was being VERY kind about how they looked because they looked WORSE THAN THAT... like super bad mashed potatoes with gravy mixed in. WORST MAC N CHEESE EVER (and, I SWEAR, I AM NOT EVEN A PICKY EATER). The people were nice enough, but the 2 awful sides DESTROYED my meal & over all eating experience here! This deli is part of a chain that recently open up in Richmond. A great deal is the 6.99 combo where one chooses two half portions of any starter , spud , salad, and sandwich. The possibilities are endless. The portion size is fulfilling and delicious. I had the spicy southwest chicken griller along with the spud max. My friends enjoyed their Sweet Chipotle Chicken grilled sandwiches with the spuds max. The sandwiches was devoured more than the spuds. Besides the spuds being dry, the server forgot to bring the butter and sour cream. I politely asked and waited almost 7 minutes for it before I got up from my seat to retrieve it myself. Hopefully the service improves when I go back for a combo or a craving for their Chocolate Lovin' Spoon Cake. The slice of cake was so rich and moist than I enjoyed the taken home half of it later that night with a glass of milk. read more

I tried to place an order online. I was placed on hold for over 10 minutes by someone I think was named Melissa. I called back asking if someone could take my order and a raspy gruff woman said she would find out why I was put on hold. I was transferred back to the front and the same person who left me on hold before attempted to take my order without any apology or explanation. I am a reasonable person. An "I am so sorry I forgot to transfer you!" would have gone a long way with me. I started the transaction by telling her that I had a tax exempt card to pay and would that be ok. She said yes. It took her another 10 minutes to take my relatively straightforward order. Then as I was trying to pay the gruff manager voice said that I could not pay with the tax exempt card that she would need paperwork to do that. She was very rude about it. Mix of either super friendly, or rather aloof staff, but the food is great! Usually it's only the cashier who tends to be not as friendly, so from that point on it's great! They refill your drinks for you and constantly check up on you, which makes it feel more like a restaurant experience than a sandwich shop. The food is amazing, and the portions are generous. If you like pastrami you must try the New Yorker! The baked potato I tried was huge, but a little dry, so you may want to stick with one of the other sides. I love this place! My favorite thing is the King Club. The ingredients are always fresh and taste great. They are reasonably priced for what you get. The portions are decent sized and I never leave hungry. The staff is friendly and helpful. The cheesecake is also delicious! Went in today for lunch after church. Was quite impressed with our lunch. I had the New Yorker sandwich and a salad and my wife had a club and soup. That New Yorker sandwich is huge and the corned beef and pastrami was melt in your mouth tender. I would definitely recommend McAlister's for lunch. Their service was great as well.
