    Chili Dog with Cheese
    Fat Man Reviews K.

This past food fun adventure Saturday, Fat Man Reviews visited the Burger Barn Drive-In located in Irvine, KY. Burger Barn serves severall options for a drive in, however they have no seating and only accept cash. My fiancé tried the BLT and Potato Wedges. The wedges were cooked and seasoned well, they give you a nice amount to an order. The bacon was crispy but very thin, it was served on dry toasted bread. The sandwich needed more mayo and a larger slice of tomato to bring some moisture and flavor to the sandwich. The lettuce was fine, but again the sandwich needed more of it. I decided to sample several items off of the menu. I started a Double Cheeseburger with everything on it, which includes pickle, onion, lettuce and tomato. The bun was slightly toasted, and the veggies were fresh, but it could have used mayo and some mustard. The cheese was melted well, the patties were good size, juicy and seasoned properly with a nice burger to bun ratio. I tried the Chuck Wagon, which comes with Cole Slaw as a topping. This was served on a sesame seed bun but was not toasted even though that would have been nice. The Chuck wagon was fried perfectly with a nice amount of breading, and it was a good size to the bun. The Cole slaw was wet, crunchy and slightly sweet which paired well with the sandwich. I did not know this was the topping, so this allowed the slaw to get pretty warm before I tried the sandwich, rookie mistake I reckon. The last menu item I tried was a Chili dog with cheese. The bun was fresh, and the hot dog was boiled but tasty and the American cheese was under the hot dog and melted well. The chili was very meaty, it had been cooked down perfectly, but it was a little salty. This was a fantastic chili dog, they do not make their own chili. Burger Barn offers many local and traditional burger joint favorites, such as corn dogs, tenderloin, ham & cheese, chicken sandwiches and several burgers. Everything can be made into a box. The staff is very friendly. The Fat Man says that Burger Barn Drive-In is Fat Man Approved with 1 chin.

Went by about 1030 AM on a weekday. They was open! I got a cheese burger deluxe and fries... took about 10 mins and cost me about 8 bucks I was 1 of 2 customers at the time. Food was hot seemed freshly made. The veggies on the burger was fresh, nice thick large tomato. Burger was pretty slammin, typical dinner style burger. Fries was hot and delicious as all properly cooked crinkle cut fries are. Try this place out, I'll be going back!

Burgers are just ok, fries are frozen of course, the coleslaw is extremely runny and horrible. Service was friendly and relatively fast.

I had the Ham & Swiss, fries, and a Pepsi. It was excellent all around. There were a lot of friendly locals grabbing a meal, and toward the end of our visit we got a chance to chat with the owner. It was great to learn the history of the place. If she ever decides to sell it and we come into some funds, we'd definitely invest in this awesome place. She Said: This was a serendipitous discovery as we made our way through the less traveled parts of Kentucky. I had a delicious BLT with a fried green tomato on it and I was *thrilled* to have crinkle-cut french fries with my meal as the crinkle-cut is the superior french fry (and it's not even close). The server behind the counter handled the busy restaurant in a friendly and efficient way and I wish I could scoop the Wigwam Drive-In up and place it in my hometown. It's one reason I don't go out for breakfast ~ I can make a pretty good breakfast at home. No use paying someone to do something I can do. So, going into Jackson's restaurant, a mom and pop restaurant specializing in home cooked style food, I had my doubts. Walking up to what resembled a school cafeteria lunch line only furthered my doubts. And, seeing the sheer number of different options sitting out behind the glass window only furthered my suspicions. Look, I was wrong. The food here is really good. The service is super friendly and helpful. I was so overwhelmed by all the choices I just told the lady behind the glass counter to pick me something. She obliged with a kindness that made me think she knew me somehow. She chose the chicken and dumplings, beef stew, apples, and two different types of corn bread. Now, I thought initially, and she even admitted, that the chicken and dumplings/beef stew mix was a little unorthodox, but that they were both so good I had to try them. Both were fantastic. The apples were awesome. I liked both types of corn bread. When I got up to leave, she called me over to the counter and said that since it was my first time there, I'd get a free dessert. You all, I was too full to even try. The food here is both tasty and filling. I was in Richmond for a conference at Eastern Kentucky University. So it was really convenient to stop by. But I'd say that even if you're remotely close, it's worth a visit. Don't, as I did, judge a book by its cover.

The only thing that will catch your attention when driving by is the roadside banner mentioning "Open Fridays from 4pm-8pm" -rather poorly designed sign because for years I thought this place was open ONLY Fridays 4-8pm. Today was Friday and I had free time, so I thought I would stop in. When I approached the door, I could see that they are open daytime hours, as well. But without the banner, I never ever would have noticed this place. Anyhow, I ordered Tom's Spicy Burger and a side of onion rings. Delicious burger but neither spicy nor a "Better Burger" -especially for the price. See other reviews for burger description. Kroger's "Private Selection" frozen burger patties taste better and the package of six patties is about the same price as Tom's Spicy. Still, it wasn't bad but it was definitely more pricey than spicy. The onion rings were delicious. I would strongly recommend them as I do prefer battered rather than breaded. They were perfectly fried, great temperature, and they were the highlight of the meal. The fried pickles appetizer was a total waste of $8. Always had deep-fried battered pickle chips at other places. Here? They take a dill pickle spear and slice it long-ways before battering the thin strips and frying. I truly thought they accidentally brought me fried string beans or something. The ONLY detectable flavor was the batter and the ranch dip with the faintest, barely existent hint of dill. I might drop in another time but after a nearly $30 bill for the three items and a drink just for myself, there are other places with a better value. Jackson's comes to mind and they know how to make fried pickles much better!
