Update: 4 days later Green Goddess Salad
    Monica R.

What a night/ day difference 4 days makes! Katherine the owner reached out & made it right, she didn't ask me to write this but this is how I'm used to getting salads from McAlister's Everything today was fresh, and there was enough fixin's per each bite!

Blake was so very sweet & helpful. I had called ahead and he had my tea ready & bringing it to me! This means a lot to me with not being able to walk/stand for very long. (0: Small town service in a big town! I love how fresh & clean it is as well!

Some nasty looking tomato chunks in our salads.

We really like Mcalister's, but I can't give this location 5 stars. Last two trips here they've given my wife the wrong dressing for her salad...gave her sweet chipotle when she ordered raspberry vinaigrette. One dressing is thick and the other more fluid, so not sure why they can't tell the difference. Lastly, the tomatoes on both our salads had several nasty pieces in them. See photo. But everything else was good...let's hope for 5 stars next visit

Ordered takeout and I don't even think the people working there even know how to do the menu items because I ordered chicken avocado BLT. I got a lettuce sandwich with chicken and no bacon or avocado. Why even go there anymore.

I would say it is best to go around lunchtime while it is still nice and neat. The customer service was great and it is an overall good spot when it is not overcrowded.

We don't get there often these days as we've moved further out. I know restaurants are cutting here and there to survive. When I do go I typically get the muffuletta sandwich as it is historically great there. Last time a couple of months ago it looked great but they forgot to toast it so it was cold meat to the touch. They took it back and heated it but not to the level it should be. I think They get in a hurry as they really do have a lot of folks. Today I ordered it as usual. Quartet sandwich. When I got it there was very little meat. If you know this sandwich, it's filled with meat. See pics below of menu pic, actual pic of sandwich I got. I got the manager (young guy) and showed him. He said looks like they didn't get some of the meat on it. I replied looks like they didn't get most of the meat. He said he would get me some more. Later he came back with a bowl with hot ham in it and handed it to me. I put it on the sandwich and now it was about right. It was about 75% of the meat. At nearly $12 for the managers special now, you kind of want the meat on the sandwich. At least it was hot. Just need to get back to making sure everything is as it should be when delivered. Not the customer having to do so. Everything else was good including my wife's order.

For starters, there is a Starbucks and a Walgreens pharmacy attached, which seems pretty typical for a grocery store, but then you see they have a gelato shop, a pizzeria, a grill with a patio, a taqueria, and more. Their huge patio space makes it a place that people of Tyler love coming to and eating at. This is like a Whole Foods for Tyler. The options and selections were a lot more vast than I had ever seen. I'm seeing fruit and produce I've never seen before. They have so much wine and beer to choose from. Their bakery has so many insane options. FRESH even has a full playground next door and live music on their patio. It's honestly a really impressive shop. One of the only downsides of FRESH is that you're going to pay that price tag. Everything is always slightly more than elsewhere in town. Its quality is what makes it worth the visit. It feels like one of a kind as a grocery store, which is why it took 10-plus years to open a second location. It's not only a grocery store, it's part of the Tyler community. The food: I ordered a McAlister's Club sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese. The sandwich was good, but nothing exceptional. Im not sure how it was a 'club' sandwich except that it had 2 pieces of bacon on it. A little overpriced for such a small sandwich, but it was fine and had good quality ingredients. The Mac and cheese was really good - nice and creamy and steaming hot. My hub ordered the 6" beef dip sandwich (so, half of a sandwich) with potato salad on the side. Both were good, but again, a little pricy for the quantity. I mean, almost $40 for two sandwiches with a side and 2 drinks...we could have gone to a full service restaurant for that price. Otherwise, everything was good. 3 stars for great service and decent but skimpy food. -2 stars for price.

My wife left a good part of her turkey melt on the plate Plus the parking lot is poorly laid out, poorly maintained. In a word: Crummy PS: Today we went to FDs, had two entrees: grilled shrimp and fried shrimp. Sat at a nice table in a nice restaurant, had an excellent waiter. So seafood, baked potatoes, fresh vegetables served hot from the kitchen for $29.12 -- only 28 cents more, than the two crummy sandwiches, for a tasty healthy full meal.

Convenience stores are typically a treasure trove for low rent demographics- you know, those that spend their entire disposable income on quick "to go" comfort items, such as: 22 oz. Dr. Pepper bottles, cigarettes, chew, bags of chips, and candy. Oh wait, don't forget the lottery tickets, and scratch offs, as well. For me, I generally only stop at joints like these to fill up my tank. I don't buy candy, lottery tickets, or other items of waste, unless it's beer, or wine. With this said, Hillbilly Hangout is a great store to stop in for a quick sixer, or bottle of vino. Seriously, who the hell would ever imagine that a gas station, in Flint, Texas, of all places, would have such an impressive selection of beer, and wine. It almost doubles as a second store. Colorful patrons, friendly employees, and a damn good spot to pick of a six pack of Porter, or a IPA. For that, Hillbilly Hangout gets 4 stars.
