McAlister's Deli - Delis Near Me - Waco, Texas

Ordered takeout- hubby picked it up. Containers of condiments for nachos are less than half full (chili and cheese) and the cheese was hardened around the edges. The worst part was despite having taken time to put crackers in the bag for soup- they left off an entire meal. Ordered Pick 2 with soup and sandwich. Order confirmation online said takeout would be ready to pick up at 6:40, but it was closer to 6:55 before our food was ready. I'd go back and complain but we live 20 min away. Won't be ordering again. My advice is make sure and check everything to make sure your order is right- McDonalds and other fast food places do better than this. read more

**Update on my review** I had a pretty crummy experience back in November at this McAllisters. A representative reached out an assured my they would take corrective measures and sent me a card to try it again. My husband and I went back in and got our meals from the card and everything went smoothly about a month ago Today I figured, ok... one bad experience and one regular one, let's give it another shot! I ordered to go again, was promptly greeted when I walked in and the cashier was very nice! She made sure everything was in my bag (I was missing a pickle with my sandwhich but she fixed it!) and another cashier even offered me a free green tea for St. Patrick's day (I know that this is for everyone, but I wouldn't have thought to ask if she didn't mention it!) Whatever they did as far as training or getting rid of the employees with the bad attitude worked. Much better experience this time! Thanks! read more

They got my complicated order right, the restaurant was clean, the staff was very friendly, and the food was awesome. highly recommend getting The Veggie sandwich, I order it without mayo--it's delicious and very satisfying! read more

Ordered a Rueben sandwich with chips, there was so much meat and the rye was awesome! Will definitely order this again.

Normally they are amazing and have everything done really efficiently and have a great attitude. Tonight though we went and I swear whoever was working that night shift were about to fight. They were acting like children bickering at each other and being very rude to each other. When we got our meal alot was wrong with it. Maybe it was just a bad night for everyone and thats understandable but at the same time there's no need for that behavior. read more

The concept is pretty good, they have a fairly large selection of soups, salads, massive baked potatoes and sandwiches. Restaurant was fairly clean and service was fast and friendly. Personally wasn't that impressed with the food though. read more

By far the worst experience I've had at McAlister's. I called in an order an hour in advance for about 7 people. A man answered the phone and you could tell they were screwing around right before the phone was answered cause he couldn't focus and wouldn't stop laughing. I had to repeat myself multiple times before the entire order was in - and I understand to a point, it was a big order. However, he wasn't very focused and I was worried the order would be screwed up. I called just before I arrived around 11:30am to let them know I was on my way, and I guess it wasn't passed along to anyone because when I showed up 15 minutes later, the food wasn't ready at all. Patricia at the take out window was very kind and all the drink orders were correct. She was literally the saving grace here and the only reason this review isn't 1 star. She said they were just finishing up the spuds and that I could just pull forward and wait. I waited for about 20 minutes - which is relatively normal if they're making spuds - and a young girl came out to give me my food. I asked if it was everything, knowing full well that it wasn't since it was just in one single bag, and she said it was and walked off. I sat there and laid all the food out on my dash and saw I was missing half my order and had extra sandwiches. I called them and let them know what I was missing, and the same girl came out and tossed me a bag with a cucumber/tomato salad and a potato salad and said that's all I was missing and I was good - I explained I was missing two FULL salads, not sides, and she just rolled her eyes at me. I asked her to go in and get a manager or something with a better attitude cause she wasn't it. After 10 more minutes of waiting for a manager, I called again and asked for a manager to come out and I guess the same girl answered the phone cause she just said "he's coming". He was very rushed and wasn't giving me his full attention. I was trying to tell him what I had extra of, what I was missing, and he just grabbed my receipt and one of the extra sandwiches and walked away but I called him back to explain exactly what I was missing and about the girl with the attitude. He came back with the correct order and said he spoke to the girl with an attitude. Hopefully something changes, cause that was a nightmare. read more

Don't know what happened this particular day. McAlister's is usually pretty good, but tonight, not so. Called in an order at 4:10 pm, got to restaurant at 4:25. Was told 15 minutes on phone. After asking 3 times about order an employee brought the order out, handed to me and left. After 5 minutes I finally got someone's attention to pay. I came here while my dad was getting takeout at Raising Cane's next door. Since RC's has such a limited menu, & not many vegetarian-friendly choices (that are not too fried), I came here for my takeout. I ordered the veggie sub sandwich, or something similar to what I always get at any other McAlisters, & it took them a while to get it out to me. They didn't seem all that busy, but I waited for nearly 15-20 minutes. My dad joked that because nobody orders the vegetarian-friendly stuff, they had to re-learn how to make it. I'd still probably come back here, if visiting the neighborhood & everyone else in my family goes to Raising Cane's. read more

I think McAlister's is one of Waco's most reliable sandwich shops. The wait is never terribly long, they always have lots of lines open, and the staff is friendly. I like their large selection of food choices. The sandwiches, soups, and baked potatoes are always good. Love the Pick Two! Perfect when I'm with a friend. Highly recommend! read more

This place is like a panera or a zupas but I like it a bit better than both because of their price and fruit/jam spreads that really make their sandwiches one of a kind. Their kids menu was decent but nothing special. The only reason it's not 5 stars for me is because my salad had a bit too much dressing and I am not a fan of having to go back to the counter to ask for a refill. Great flavor though. read more

Went for the first time ever to a McAllister's Deli. Never had a desire to go as I cannot recall any advertising about who they are and what was special about them. The building is set more of a pleasant dining experience with food served to you at the table. Temperature was comfortable inside on a very cool evening. The Smoky Pepper Jack Turkey with Mac N Cheese side, Spicy Southwest Chicken with Coleslaw side, and Parmesan-Kale with Turkey Sausage soup were our choices. All were brought to table and served on actual dishes with real silverware. The price to value ratio is a bit on the high side. We didn't have drinks only water. The bill was essentially $10 each. The sandwiches were good not fantastic. For the price I wish there was more food. The soup however was delicious and we both gave it a big thumbs up. I believe we will return but do know it won't be very frequent. There are better values and tastes with more choices elsewhere. The only reason to go here would be the sit down dining experience in the well designed building. That is why 4 stars not 3. read more

Just recently moved into the area, so I don't know many eateries here that are vegetarian friendly. I saw McAllister's and was thrilled because we are so close to the location, and my kids and I love the food. My first time there, I wasn't too impressed. We ordered our food to go and my veggie potato was cold and hard to eat. My daughter's Mac and cheese portion was way under the standard portion as were her mashed potatoes. For the price I'm paying, I'd expect to get the full portion size! Since the first time I've been there (been there 4 times in total) the food quality has gotten much better, but they are still extremely stingy with their portions when you order to go. I ordered the nacho basket and when I opened the container for the chips, I laughed at how little chips were in there! They were all broken up to what I can only assume was to make it look like there were a lot of chips. My daughter's Mac and cheese was still under the actual portion amount. So, I rate them as "so-so" because the food tastes good, but they are extremely stingy with the to go portion servings! read more
