Had a great time at McCabe's!!! The food was great and the service was even better. Robyn made sure to pay a lot of attention to us, gave recommendations, and made sure our drinks were always full. I tried the fish and chips but subbed a salad for the fries. It delicious! Glad I got to check out this new McCabe's location before I left Waterloo! I came on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too busy, we sat at a nice booth by the window and had a TV right next to us playing a tennis tournament. I saved my lunch appetite specifically for their half price wing deal that goes on from 2-5 pm everyday (with the purchase of a drink). I ordered the small size (reg price 10.99) which comes with 7 wings of one flavor and I chose the Chef's Irish Whiskey BBQ with chocolate milk as my drink. The medium size comes with two flavors and 12 wings for reg price $18.99. My friend ordered the Honey Garlic flavor and my boyfriend ordered Medium and Lucky 7. My vegetarian friend got a poutine for $9. Overall, their food was delicious! I tried a bit of everyone's food and my favorite was the Lucky 7 wings - it was a slightly sweet and tangy BBQ sauce with a bit of spice. The poutine was also on point - it had a good ratio of all the components and the green onion garnish added an extra level of flavor. My friend found her Honey garlic wings to be a little bit under-sauced and I wish the Chef's Irish Whiskey BBQ had a little more flavor. I worked here for several months. Never got moved up yet I worked my ass off. Staff are unstable & do cocaine in the handicap bathroom. Food is gross people hardly wash their hands before serving it. Head chef has raging anger issues & doesn't let the staff eat a single tortilla chip without paying for it. Girls roll their kilts up so you can see their literal bare bums and then get mad when old men look. Overall a horrible business and ran very poorly. Glad I left LOL. read more

Great wings...mediocre everything else. Came here with my wife and daughter for Wing Night (which they have every Monday). The sign near the entrance said 'Please wait to be seated'. After waiting about 30 seconds and seeing that no one was coming or had even noticed us (it wasn't that busy) we sat at a table near the entrance. We quickly realized it was too cold there (right by a window onto the street) so we relocated to another table, but not before a waitress dropped 2 sets of plates and cutlery at the table and walked away without a word. Not even a brief nod or smile. Anyway, we ordered drinks, wings and salads...and then received The Rules: wings are eat/in only...if we dared try to take some home we'd be charged the regular price for the whole order ('so don't even try it buddy' was her tone). After being suitably scolded we settled in to enjoy our dinners. I must say the wings were great - large and flavourful, good value for sure. The Cesar salad I ordered, though, was the smallest I'd ever seen for around $8. Not such good value (although it tasted good as well). The final concern was the price of the sparkling water my wife and I ordered. I wanted a large bottle (750mL) of San Pell or similar, which many restaurants in Waterloo charge around $3 for. Instead we received two puny 300mL bottles of Perrier, for a total charge of $8.85 (were they $4.42 1/2c each?). So again, not good value. Went with a group of 8 for lunch today. Service was slow from the start as we were upstairs so we could all sit together, getting our drinks and to order our food took almost 30 minutes, which is way too long for lunch. So here's the summary of red flags: 1. Server talked a customer out of what they originally wanted to order 2. Customer raised a concern that they believed the food was not prepared properly. Instead of even attempting to correct the mistake, server argues with the customer - telling them they are wrong. 3. Server has to check the menu which the customer references (in an attempt to prove the customer wrong). 4. Server continued to try to convince the customer they are wrong despite obviously using a different sauce. read more

From Friendly Staff, to an Open Concept Appealing Atmosphere McCabes Waterloo is honestly my Favorite Pub. Opening Awhile ago now, I can gladly say My Friends and I have enjoyed our fair share of Meals here. Cold and uncomfortable. Really bad service. Probably the worst restaurant experience we've had in a few years. The restaurant was cold, everywhere. We had to keep our coats on. The customer service was very poor. After being seated, we got our water and ordered food. The place was almost empty, but we never saw or heard from the server again... after about 45 minutes we waved her over and asked her what was going on. She didn't know. We told them we were leaving and to forget about the food. They couldn't offer any explanation and obviously no one there has any skills to run a restaurant and provide a proper (even basic) experience. Upon walking out we noticed a few new tables and some had food. It was atrocious all the way around. read more

I always get the vegan "save the world" burger when I come here. It's a great option for vegan/vegetarians. You can substitute the fries with sweet potato fries, which is so yummy! I've been here several times at night with friends for some grub and drinks and we always have a pleasant time here. My wife and I come here a lot and I can say it's definitely worth it, menu is on point with a decent selection of alcohol, very rustic and warm feeling atmosphere and friendly helpful staff. The food was delicious was like fine dining but pub prices! Everything was done to perfection plating was very well done the food is amazing every time we go, I haven't had something yet on the menu that wasn't above par, the Chef has his kitchen on point. The only negative thing I have is when it's super busy the FOH staff seems like they get a bit flustered, but we're still calm sweet and accommodating, so yes I would recommend this to any person who wants a good time in uptown read more

Terrible service. My husband and I ordered dinner and drinks and were sat on second level. Our 2 beers sat at the bar for approx 10 minutes while 4 waitstaff and their floor manager hovered around them while no one bothered to serve them to us. Our server wasn't around but one would assume the manager or bartender would have the common sense to take the drinks to the customer that have been sitting getting warm for over 10 minutes. I had to flag the manager down to ask her for our drinks that were sitting on the bar. Pathetic. No common sense or idea of what's going on. Won't be returning again. read more

Was told to seat ourselves and waited 10 minutes without anyone coming over. Went to the bar to ask for someone to take our order. We asked for a menu and were told the kitchen was closed at 12:30 on a Saturday.... very weird and disappointing that food was no longer being served so early in the night. When here for lunch today it was absolutely blown away. The Decour was Celtic But modern enough just the same. Wait staff were very polite. Lots of options on the menu but being in an Irish pub I got fish and chips. The two piece fish and chips was awesome both pieces were very big crispy and properly cooked. Was an excellent night from the staff to the food. The music was just at the right volume in order to be able to enjoy the conversation with friends the food came in a timely manner and was hot and excellent to the taste.
