Ironically, I don't think the olive oil is as good as some others but McCauley Olive Groves' store has some of the best balsamic vinegars and agro dolce I've had. The aged balsamic, balsamic fig, pomegranate, and pear are some of my favorites. I use one almost every day on a salad, with fish or chicken, or drizzled over burrata or grilled vegetables. It's delicious. The store staff are always friendly in a nice low key way, and happy to allow you to taste the olive oil and vinegar options to help you select your favorite. read more

They let me sample all the oils with bread and give me good knowledge of the products. The store is clean and organized. If you bring in an empty McCauley bottle, they can refill it and save you $2. The store is beautiful inside and the staff is incredibly helpful! So many choices of oil, flavored oils, balsamic vinegar, dipping sauce, olives, dishes for olives and olive oils and on and on. I got to taste a couple of the oils with small pieces of bread. I have a birthday gift to get tomorrow and I think I know where to shop!! As a part of the 2022 Farm Trail, McCauley is a valuable business within the mission to expand agri-tourism in Brentwood. As the name suggests, they specialize in olive oils, but also sell vinegars, seasoning mixes, nuts, jams, and more! I visited the store to grab gifts for an upcoming wedding I'm attending. They have an entire wall dedicated to EVOO and vinegars, and if you ask, they'll let you have samples of the ones you're interested in! For the wedding presents I grabbed a barrel aged balsamic vinegar, basil EVOO, and a Palo Alto habanero hot sauce. Gift bags are sold separately and they also add tissue paper along with it. I also included two pour spouts for easy dispensing, as well as rubber spout caps to reduce oxidation and to keep the bugs out. They do have prearranged baskets, but I wanted to make my gift more personal. For myself, I bought an orange EVOO and basil EVOO, as well as D'anjou Pear White Balsamic Vinaigrette and Fig Balsamic Vinaigrette. I'm thinking these will taste excellent on salads and pizzas. I'll most likely return for a bottle of the barrel-aged balsamic vinegar in the future because of how deep and mature the flavor tasted. In addition to oils and vinegars, they have nuts and candy in the front, seasoning mixes to go with olive oils and bruschetta, many types of crackers, local Brentwood honey, jams, spreads, serving boards, honey sticks, honey dippers, and much more! McCauley's is a one-stop shop that has it all, and Contra Costa's ag industry wouldn't be complete without it. Came here this summer in search of locally made honey and enjoyed my purchase. Looking around the store at the time, I figured they'd also be a great place for gifts for the foodie in your life. Fast forward to Christmas 2021 and how right I was! My dad loves unique oils and seasonings so I stopped here for one of their gift sets of locally made olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It's nicely packaged and ready to give! They also feature cute accessories like dipping bowls, trays for your charcuterie, soaps, lotions and more. I have been making the Marsh Creek commute for a couple of years now. Somewhere along the way, a cute little store popped up. Then there was an article in my local newspaper that drew in my attention. Two brothers that grew up in the area, decided to plant and harvest olive orchards. While providing their pressed olive oil to local fruit stands, restaurants and stores, there was still a high request for a local store where locals could purchase their olive oil and other locally grown products. So they did. For some reason, on Christmas Eve - I got the bug to finally make it a point to stop in and visit. I'm so glad I did. My husband wasn't sure they would be open, we decided to take a quick drive by and see. Sure enough, they were. I had been stressing about being a bit short on gifts for my tea loving mother-in-law and they had locally harvested honey. Sean McCauley himself was there when we dropped in. He was very cordial and gave us a tasting. The garlic olive oil and balsamic vinegar were so good, we had to take home a couple of bottles. The basil olive oil is incredible, perfect for dressings or pasta. I wasn't daring enough to try the jalapeno olive oil but the mixture had a really pretty orange hue to it. The pies and cobblers looked delicious. There are picnic tables available and they hold various events here. It's a really quaint, friendly little store. The term "good people" just comes to mind. Local foods are the best! After driving by so many times, Mrs N had the idea to stop by. Glad we did. The McCauley Brothers have been in agriculture for many years now and recently opened a store front at Balfour and Deer Valley. The store is freshly done, clean, and comfortable. They have several tables outside can be a nice place to enjoy the oils as well as the variety of fruits and nuts they offer. The main story here is about olives. They grow olives right in Brentwood, sell them, and make a variety of oils. We tasted the garlic and basil oils, and a balsamic vinegar. Very good indeed! They had a few others to try as well. The dipping oil mix looks inviting, but we'll come back for that. read more

Love this place.. don't expect them to carry the cheap stuff; all their product are made with dedication and with love! The olive oil are simply the best hands down and their Balsamic vinegar (at least what my wife say) is the best she ever had. Take some fresh tomatoes; fresh mozzarella, some basil/mint leaves and drizzle some of their Balsamic vinegar and you got a good refreshing healthy side dish. What an amazing shopping experience at my local country store all the local goods from the area need to te tell everyone in our community

Went here while running errands to pick up some olive oil on Thursday. Usually I buy the Greek stuff at Trader Joe's or if we're in Rutherford up by Napa, we go to the St. Helena Olive Oil Company but if something is local and possibly better, I want to try it out. Girl with the piercings at the counter was friendly and let us taste the garlic, jalapeno and regular olive oils. (The jalapeno oil was especially tasty, but because I was buying specifically to cook with, I went with the regular oil.) I cook with olive oil like it's going out of style as I don't use vegetable/canola/soybean oils whatsoever. My husband grabbed a glass bottle labeled "1/2 gallon" for $22 yet when we compared it to the plastic bottle labeled "1/2 gallon" it was clear the plastic bottle was twice the volume. After helping some other customers who were already in line, the girl at the counter told us the glass bottle was mislabeled. We ended up buying the half gallon yet I'm very weary if it's truly Extra Virgin Olive Oil as it's not that nice green color that a true extra virgin oil would be - it is more of a yellow color. My other problem is that the larger volume bottles are sold solely in clear plastic jugs rather than dark glass bottles. Olive oil is acidic and will take on the flavor of the container so plastic isn't a good choice for bottling a high quality oil. I'm going to transfer the oil into my own bottles and hope for the best. Oh, and they had a sample of their tomato-pesto dip mix. It was delicious but at $4/ per bag of seasoning mix was just too steep in my opinion. read more

This country store is incredible. Their olive oils and vinegar are amazingly fresh, LOCAL, and delicious. We buy a gallon of their olive oil at a time as we cook with it all the time. The 5 year balsamic and 20 year balsamic are completely different. The 5 year is what you would expect from balsamic vinegar, however the 20 year aged is THE BOMB! Put it on ice cream, salads, steak or seafood! You will be shocked at the quality of this glaze. There is tasting of every type of flavored oils and you can taste the local Brentwood honey they sell too! I have a foodie friend who begged for the remains in my honey jar after she tasted it last Sunday‼ When you buy a bottle be sure to save it when you are finished as you can bring the bottle or jar back for a $2 discount when you have it refilled! We've driven past this past for years and never thought to stop because we've never been a big fan of olive oil, which we use for cooking because it's said to be healthy but that's about it. As a dip or salad dressing, we never cared for olive oil, even when fancy Italian restaurants served it. Then we had a dip appetizer at Chaman Kabob in Brentwood which they topped with olive oil. My first reaction on seeing the oil on top was, bummer, why'd they do that? But when I dipped into it, I found the oil was delicious. It actually tasted strongly of olives. Is THAT was olive oil is supposed to taste like?? So when we ran low on our cooking olive oil, we went shopping for some. We actually first bought a bottle at the Farmer's Market. Though very expensive and I'm sure top quality, the plain olive oil was bleh, tasting more like oil than olive as I've found most olive oils to do. Then we decided to stop by McCauley Brothers just to check it out now that we had a better appreciation for their stuff. So glad we did! I am now in love with that place. There was a pretty extensive tasting selection--must've had around 10 different olive oils. They had 2 plain ones--early harvest and late. The late kind of tasted like the bland oil I'm used to but the early one had a really nice olive taste, and we ended up getting a big bottle of that. It ended up costing a lot less than the oil we bought at Farmer's Market too, which I now kind of regret getting. We also tried their dipping oil which is a blend of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, chilis, and various spices. That was delicious but I figured we now had enough yummy olive oil--but next time. So we also got a bottle of their 20 year balsamic vinegar instead. They had 20 and 5 year vinegar and it was amazing what a huge taste difference there was with the 20 being sweeter while the 5 was more acidic. I love balsamic vinegar so enjoyed both. Just before we left, I had a quick sample of their habanero chili sauce and had to get a bottle of that as well. Now I have to find things to eat it with. The store also has a huge variety of many other sauces, snacks, and pastas. For such a small space, it's actually kind of overwhelming. Thank goodness they didn't offer more samples because I think I would have been lost knowing what NOT to buy. The moment we walked in the store, a young lady came out to greet us. We were the only ones there so she was very attentive. Can't complain about the service at all. And you get $2 off when you bring back your glass bottles for a refill. This is where we will be getting our olive oil from now on, as well as our balsamic vinegar, not to mention farm-raised eggs and local honey. read more

I was surprised at how big the store is and how many different products they sell besides olive oil. I found out that they carry the Palo Alto Firefighters hot sauces so I had to go buy some. I remember when parts of Camino Diablo were gravel and Vasco rd was about 15 feet wide in some places. I've purchased their local grown honey while they were at the Diablo Farmer Market in Walnut Creek. Although there were others honey vendors I find theirs to be tasty. Once you get the olive oil here, you'll never go to the store for it again. The chocolate covered pretzels are also my go-to upon every visit. They're always super nice and I love seeing the cats outside, and I always find great birthday and Christmas gifts here -- foot lotion, soap, soup, even a cook book every once in a while. My husband and I just moved here last week and I have been so excited to get out and buy some local produce. We stopped for the farm fresh eggs, but were told they were already sold out. The lady did tell us they would have more the next morning around 10:30. She offered us an olive oil tasting so we tried the garlic, basil and jalapeno oils. Each was incredible! The garlic is by far what I cook with most and it was delicious. The jalapeno was very good. All the taste without the heat. They also have a big selection of pies, frozen, in a case. They arent made on the property the lady said, she drives to Manteca and picks them up. I bought the boysenberry pie. I dont care that it was $12, it was delicious!!! We ended up with the oil, pie and a bag of toasted nuts. Toasted nuts, like corn nuts, were $3 for 8 oz. and did not survive the day. We will definitley be going back. I still want to get some eggs and we "need" more pie and nuts. read more
