I was in the market for a "promise ring" and I also wanted to look at engagement rings because I was in the process of working with another (out of state) jeweler for an engagement ring. I found the staff (Brian) to be friendly, engaging, professional and with the proper context, humorous...oh and VERY knowledgeable too! Little did I know that I was walking into a family run business that specializes in custom created jewelry! The store is clean, well lit and very well organized. I felt very safe and there was no pressure to "up-sell" me on anything. In fact, there was no pressure to even make a purchase! After introducing himself, Brian gave me his full and complete attention. After describing what I wanted to look at, I was very pleasantly surprised by the near constant outflowing of products and ideas to discuss, review and actually touch / examine. Yeah at one point we had a fair portion of the counter littered with a variety of shiny things. I went in with my boyfriend yesterday on Black Friday. He recommended this jeweler as his family has bought all their jewelry items throughout the years there. I work in the jewelry industry as well but have always wanted MY OWN special ring shopping experience when that time came since I have given 1,000's of amazing ring shopping experiences to my customers. I want to have my own beautiful experience and not at my own store. We were greeted by an older gentleman and there was only two other couples in the store already being helped. My boyfriend and the salesman started talking. The salesman at the store said "well since it's Black Friday and you guys aren't getting engaged by Christmas, I'm not going to take the time to help you guys and show settings right now just for those coming in ready to actually buy gifts" which I was extremely taken back by. I felt dismissed, unimportant and turned off at that point. Then he said "but if you have pictures go ahead and show me" why would I show you pictures of settings I want when you just made it very clear you aren't even going to help us? I CRIED once we left. I really really hope my boyfriend doesn't shop and buy there now. First impressions are everything to me and y'all blew it. Two years ago the diamond in my 46 year old wedding ring fell out of the setting and went missing. Ron- who I believe is one of the owners- is condescending and unpleasant. I took some items in recently to see what they would be worth. I asked a few questions about how they determine payout amounts. I think he saw me as gullible and was trying to confuse me by "mansplaining" a bunch of nonsense and talking in circles. Then he went on and on in a very condescending way about how it'll "take him some time to determine what is what" and he'll have to charge me for my time if I chose not to sell- I have NO problem with that, as people need to be compensated for their time. It was the fact that he made me feel like I was bothering him that irritated me. He made me feel like he was doing me a favor by buying my gold. He then told me he would get to it when he could, "sometime in between other customers". Um ok... When Ron called me a few hours later, the amount he offered literally made me laugh out loud. When I came back to pick up my stuff, he didn't bother charging me because I think he knew how badly he tried to lowball me. The next day I took my stuff to The Gold Store on TO Blvd, where I was given a warm welcome and a complimentary cleaning of my personal pieces while I waited for the appraisal. After thorough inspection and purity testing, they offered 6X as much as Ron offered me! Thankfully I got another opinion and didn't fall for the mansplaining and take Ron's offer. Also, he could really use a breath mint. I will definitely not be shopping at McClave again! read more

They said, and I will agree with... "good things come to those who wait." As my previous review states, I was very recently given an engagement ring some 15 years into our marriage (that McClave Jewelers resized for me). The thing is, though, while my fake wedding rings were fine all these years, I noticed the band part was not the same shine, sparkle and polish that a real band would have provided, so I thought to myself, why don't I splurge and complete the look with a real band? Since McClave's did such a nice job of resizing my engagement ring, I decided to return to check out their wedding band selection, and I found a lovely band that is actually PERFECT. What's amazing about this ring is that the unique design (the slight curve at the tip of the band) lays so beautifully against the engagement ring, you'd think they were always a wedding ring set, and yet, they're not. Completely independent of each other, but they go together so well. Greg McClave assisted us, and he was extremely thorough and accommodating. I had to wait an additional four weeks for the band to be made, but I survived the long wait, lol, and I can't stop staring at my beautiful rings. I've always been fine with wearing fake jewelry, but I have to say, I really love my new rings and how pretty they are.... and this is thanks to McClave's !! read more

I came to simply asked if they could check if a piece of jewelry I purchased online and the guy I spoke with absolutely refused to do it. He went on and on to explain it had to be appraised by a professional and that it was a service that cost. It's funny because across from McClave's Jewelrs is Daniel's Jewelrs who said they're machine was out of order. I didn't appreciate how condescending the guy at McClaves was being. The jewelry business is competitive enough, I would expect a friendly conversation but this guy seemed to want to just say no to get rid of me. When looking to get antique jewelry worked on, do not go to McClaves. I picked up my wedding rings after getting them resized. I quickly noticed that they were lumpy and could see the marks where gold was added to the bands. I walked immediately back in and was then told because of how big I got my rings sized they were unable to do anything to help except try to smooth it out more. The man I spoke to was rude and kept emphasizing how large the size was. A day or so later my husband went back in to pick them up because I no longer felt comfortable entering your store. Once again I put the rings on and they were lumpy, scratchy and it was yellowed when I have white gold bands. Upon further inspection, I noticed there was a crack inside the setting of my wedding band. I felt that my rings were not secure and I couldn't wear them so I decided to go to another local jeweler. I had to spend more money to repair multiple cracks on the wedding undercarriage, smooth out the bottom and repair another crack. It was almost completely cracked through the entire undercarriage. It's extremely disappointing to have someone go and ruin your rings which are family heirlooms as well. These rings have been in my family for close to one hundred years. The other jeweler stated that with antique gold, you need to be careful when heating the ring to resize it. She said that too much heat was used and it cause cracking in my rings. This entire experience was extremely uncomfortable and disheartening. When you were trusting someone with your special jewelry and they take a little care, it is extremely violating. Not once did anybody say that it would be difficult to resize these when I went in originally. But when we picked them up, we were told that it was much more work than he anticipated and did little to fix the situation. If he was unable to complete the job in a way that the ring looked nice and felt nice. Then he should've called me and stopped what he was doing. I have the receipt from the other jeweler stating all of the problems that were caused and they needed to fix. I did not take pictures of the crappy work because I was just so upset and wanted them fixed. read more

The only reason they get one star is because I love my ring which was originally purchased there a few years ago with Steve. Steve is no longer there, and customer service has left with him. I have spoken to two people in regards to trading in my center stone for a bigger one. Total lay down sale. Ready to pay, but no one wants to help. Greg dropped the ball and never got back to me with options or numbers. I decided to try again and called. Spoke to Ron on the phone, who listened to my complaint, took all my info, and yet again I was left with dissapointment. Such a shame during these times when we really wanted to spend our money with a smaller shop instead of the big jewelers. Needless to say, no phone calls back. Oh and beware when going in to ask to have the ring you purchased there cleaned. If the jeweler is busy and trying to leave, you are met with rudeness.
