Popped into McCellan's pub to watch the football (soccer), as this is a Football bar I expected it to be busy with fans watching the world cup, It wasn't. It did start to fill up later however.We did stay to watch the televised game had a couple of appetizers and a few Guinness. It was Happy Hour all day so really cant complain. Great service. We've been a few rimes and have always fiund the bartender to be a good guy. Normally I order the salad served with grilled ir fried chicken. The portion is large. Green are always fresh and I just enjoy it. Wednesday is their half price fish & chips special. Two larges pieces of cod battered and deep fried to perfection! Served with fries and a small sides of tarter sauce and a delicious vinegar based slaw. Today I ordered my fish blackened and grilled. This option is not on the menu but was a yummy and healthier option. McClellan's is tucked away in a shopping plaza at the corner if Snouffer and Sawmill behind a bagel shop. They have a lovely patio on the side of the building if you want to sit outside. Inside is a european style pub with old liquor bottles for cold water on the table. We regularly visit McClellans and recommend that you check them out! read more

McClellan's Pub delivered a plate of Fish & Chips so good I briefly considered applying for dual citizenship with Ireland and Great Britain just to honor both sides of the dish. Perfectly crispy, piping hot, and seasoned like the chef whispered sweet nothings to the fryer. The whiskey selection? Huge. Titanic. Practically its own ZIP code. But not a drop of Powers. , A tragedy Shakespeare himself would've rewritten entire scenes for. So, like any self-respecting Irish-at-heart patron, I defaulted to good old Jameson--reliable, comforting, and always there for you, like that one friend who helps you move because they "actually like lifting things." I also grabbed to-go orders for the home tribe: bourbon meatballs, prime rib sliders, and meatloaf. The feedback? Universal acclaim. They devoured everything like I'd brought them a peace offering after years of conflict. If McClellan's ever launches a catering service, entire families could be reunited. The place was packed through Happy Hour and well beyond--apparently, half of Columbus had the same idea. If popularity is a metric of quality, this pub is basically Beyoncé. Temperature-wise? A bit chilly. Could've been the weather... could've been the pub... could've been the frigid realization that they were this close to having my favorite whiskey. Hard to say. McClellans has a great vibe. The staff treats you warmly as if you were a regular, even if it is your first time. I can't prove this, but I believe they have the largest whisky selection in the city. Great place for locals or first time visitors. Really has the local pub/hangout vibe. Amazing draft beer and Bourbon selection to suuport a very good food selection. We did a little Bourbon tasting(washed down with a brown ale), and started with a both Irish egg rolls and Reuben Balls (if you are Cornbeef fan - go with Reuben Balls). Entrees really enjoyed the Fish and Chips with the Pub Sandwich (chicken cheese pickles) coming in a close second. The pub doesnt have a huge staff, you relax and enjoy the time with your date or friends. Team is super friendly and you will definitely want to come back. We went here for fish & chips on a Friday. It was delicious!! The bar isn't too loud either. They have $5 Guinness on Fridays too. What a steal!! I would love to come back here and try more food!! McClellan's was our final stop for our St. Patrick's Day pub "crawl" today! While I was excited for some Reuben Balls and Bangers and Mash, I was sadly disappointed in both. All of the food that my husband and I ordered was cold. I ordered the Reuben Balls and Bangers and Mash and my husband ordered the Beef and Guiness Stew and a side order of French Fries. My husband did like the flavors of the Beef and Guiness Stew - he just didn't like that it was cold. We soaked the French Fries with vinegar and ketchup and those were good! My good lacked any flavor. The Reuben Balls and the Mashed Potatoes both did not have any flavor nor taste. So sad! We weren't fond of the music either. I am sorry for this poor review - we really wanted to like this place too. read more

Cool little Irish pub, well themed, with a great selection of beer, whiskey and food. The Reuben egg rolls were delicious, loaded with cabbage and served with a tasty thousand island side sauce, but it was a bit light on the corned beef. The fish and chips were also delicious, but the fries, they were more like fair fries and they were not the crunchy fries one would expect with a fish and chips. The service was great! Next, the service was phenomenal and Third, the food was very good, and left wishing we ordered more. I brought four friends and everyone was happy. This pub had recommended to me a few times, so we went for a half off fish & chips Wednesday. So impressed! We went early (it's popular so gets busy!) Friendly service (despite it being busy and only having a couple people waiting tables). The pub itself is clean, has a lot of tables, and isn't too loud. Plus if you're a Liverpool fan: it's the local L'pool supporter pub. The fish and chips are SO good - legit probably the best in Columbus! My Mr. is British so we know a good fish and chips. Yes, technically, the chips aren't "proper chips" (which are more like steak fries) but these fries are super good. The fish comes as two large pieces, perfectly fried. The tartar sauce is delicious and the coleslaw crispy and not creamy (yay, a plus for me). Can't beat the half price fish on Wednesdays, but it's worth every penny of full price. I would highly recommend McClellan's and especially their fish and chips! Only disappointment for me was they were out of bread pudding for dessert. I hope they have it next time. So we I have been here a few more times, and brought some company. The wins are still the appetizers I had before (Irish egg roll, Reuben balls, sliders). The sliders were good. Their whiskey selection is solid. This time we all did fish and chips, and beers. First a Guinness - good pours. Then a porter, and the glass had the bubble trails that indicate it wasn't the cleanest glass. We did the pretzel charcuterie, and it was just okay - the pretzel was chewy, but the accoutrements were decent (even though it felt like a Trader Joe's special). The dips also were tasty - although the cheese had that "I've been sitting for a bit" skin on top. The fish and chips: Because my friend is an asshole, he whined that "the chips aren't chips - they should be steak fries!" We didn't care - they're natural cut fries, the kind that taste great with malt vinegar. The fish itself - a little bready, but a bit greasy. These get all the rant and raving online around lent, so maybe it is "too early" to get a decent batch, because it really doesn't deserve the hype. Service was spot on - it wasn't too busy, literally just the bartender, and she kept the food coming and the drinks poured, and never let us feel unattended. So the four stars is a bit iffy - I have had better late lunches there, so I want to try the fish and chips again, the service and whiskey selection is top, and their other items have been really good. So take a gamble - it'll either be "okay" or "really good" and nowadays I like those odds. read more

A comfortable place with good service but I just don't like the food. It has no taste. It's just fried. For most people, that's enough. I went to dinner with several friends and I ordered the fish and chips. Mine was not ready when the other orders were so our server brought me out an order of Irish Egg Rolls (free). Most restaurants would not have done that and I appreciate that. They didn't have much taste, though - just tasted fried. My order eventually came. It was a nice big portion of fish and it was good fried fish. The fries were kind of soggy or at least not crisp. The cole slaw was sweet, the thousand island was sweet and even the tartar sauce was sweet. read more

Great place! Stopped in while visiting Columbus for the Liverpool v. Arsenal match. The staff and the fellow patrons were all welcoming and genuinely fun. Guinness is served just right, and bartender Adam is a prince of a guy who keeps things rolling and makes sure everyone is tended to. Irish breakfast was solid, with nicely done eggs over easy. I'm sure it's a good bar too. It's pretty small, but nice, and woody. Good service. Watching a game on the weekend or something would be fun. I got the recommended foods: Irish eggrolls and the prime rib sliders. It was a ton of food, too much, I had plenty left over for later. The sliders are huge. And piled high with tender, juicy, flavorful beef. There is an au jus dipping side, but you really don't need it. The bun was good. Three of them left me pretty well stuffed. Rolls were good but not great. Lots of cabbage, not quite enough meat. Flavorful, and amusing, and with thousand island to dip in. But I'd pass next time. But the overall experience of great food, great service, and reasonable prices was well worth it. read more

Being on the end of a strip mall, McClellan's does not look like it will be that nice. It is actually nice inside. It is clean and well lit. I'm one of of those beer nerds and they had plenty of craft beers to choose from. We decided to try the Pretzel Charcuterie and it was very good. Restaurant week had fish and chips wedge salad and a bunt cake for 35.00. Well it was Wednesday and they had a weekly special: fish a chips half price 9.95 wedge salad 11.00 and Bundt cake 6/8 dollars. So you could get the same dinner off the menu for 27/29 dollars depending on your dessert. Fish was good fries were as limp as they could be and I didn't care for Cole slaw. Twelve ounce Guinness was 8. Dollar kind of steep. Our server was new but did fine. We learned together. Most of the people were very friendly and hustling like crazy! One person behind bar didn't like me asking about the price of a Guinness. Said they were " I don't know 7 or 8 dollars with a dollar off for happy hour. Went behind bar checked price came out and said 8 dollars and flew by our table. I felt like I upset her with my question. My wife had the corn beef which was very lean. It was good but very light on corn beef . Overall won't be rushing back in near future. I wanted to like it more I love the pub atmosphere. read more

There were hits and misses here... The atmosphere was was pretty great, and the service was nice. But the food was iffy. They also happened to be out of the Whiskey I ordered. We got the Reuben balls as an app. They were kind of burned, and were really just sauerkraut balls - there didn't seem to be any corned beef, or anything else in them. My friend ordered the Guinness Burger, and both the burger and the onion strings were way overcooked, but he did say it was fine. The fries were average. My wife ordered French Onion soup and the Butchers Melt. She said both were great. I got the Corned Beef & Slaw sandwich with Mac n Cheese. The Mac n cheese was a bit thick, and kind of boring. But... The Corned Beef & Slaw sandwich was literally one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. It's really hard to rate a place with some amazing food and some bad food. But since my sandwich was amazing, and the service was good, I'm going with 4 stars. read more

This joint was definitely jumping the weekend leading into St. Patrick's Day with lots of diners enjoying food and drinks at this Irish pub. Their beef stew is hearty and filling, and I liked that the stew came with a little piece of bread for dipping. That was a nice, unexpected touch. Their side of French fries has just the right amount of crunch and softness and they taste great dipped in ketchup or beef stew! The pub also has three great desserts. My table ordered the bourbon caramel Bundt cake. It normally comes with crushed pecans on top, but after asking if they could be left off, our waitress assured us that would be no problem. The cake is absolutely DELICIOUS with sweet salted caramel drizzled over it and hiding inside like a lava cake, and a warm, moist, soft and savory cake underneath it all. Topped off with a little dollop of vanilla ice cream, I wish I could have had a full-sized cake to take home with me. Our waitress was attentive and informative about the food and drinks the pub served, and I'm definitely looking forward to going to celebrate next year's St. Patrick's Day. read more

I have dined at McClellan's a couple times now. Some friends had bragged that they had the best crab cakes in town. So, I thought I would check them out. While I was anticipating more of an Irish pub, their web site best describes themself as a local bar / American pub with an Irish inspiration. There are high def TV's spread throughout to be able to watch a game. McClellan's specializes and boast of their bourbon and whiskey selection by having some 500 different bottles to choose from. With all that said they are trying to carve a unique identity which left me feeling a bit confused at first. Similarly, their menu is a mix of different pub grub. Each time I visited it was early evening. Each time, there was only one person servicing the bar and the dining area, the bartender. Each one were helpful and friendly. Offered recommendations when asked. While the pub was not particularly busy, the bartender was stretched thin with keeping up with customers, orders coming out, preparing drinks, busing tables, addressing questions from vendors stopping by, answering phones and cashing out customers. During my first visit, I ordered the Irish egg rolls appetizer and the crab cake entree. There were three Irish egg rolls that were cut in half, served with a side of thousand island dressing. The egg rolls were basically stuffed with a vinegar tasting slaw with a little flecks of corned beef inside. I had to hunt for the corned beef inside. They also had dripped oil from being deep fried. While this had been recommended, I have had better and passed on them the next time I visited. The crab cake entree came out as the crab cake appetizer as there was a mix up with my order that I attribute to the bartender being stretched thin. While he offered to correct the issue, I settled for just the crab cake appetizer instead. There were two good size crab cakes, but as for taste they were pretty dry and bland, lacking any seasoning. I have definitely had better tasting crab cakes. Since I was feeling a little hesitant from my first visit, I wanted to give McClellan's another shot. On my next visit, I ordered their Reuben balls appetizer and the prime rib sliders. The Reuben balls were pretty decent, but stuffed similar as the Irish egg rolls. The prime rib sliders entree was huge! There were three "sliders" that were more like full sized roast beef sandwiches. No sides came with them the entree. I'm glad there wasn't as it was quite filling. Each time, my dining experience was pleasant. The food was okay and the service was friendly and inviting, but stretched. I'd would go back to McClellan's again, especially if looking for a place to hang out. read more

First time there. Amazing food! Ordered the prime rib sliders. Most amazing flavor! Caramelized onions atop piles of thinly sliced lean prime rib sit between the softest of slider buns. Had apps. Presentation impressive as well. Not a bourbon drinker, but if you are, there are more than 100 types from which to choose. Amy, the owner and head chef is as charming as she is talented.
