Hawks Nest is under new management and it's evident. While the inside of the gas station has received some updates (even tho it's always hot now and occasionally Smokey), it seems like some overall service AND customer service is now severely lacking. Well, surprise surprise surprise.. I have heard about this place from friends. Not a place I would normally go to or stop by to try. It's located by a gas station, no its connected to the gas station. Very shocked to see how well designed it was and clean. Greeted as we came in and all three bartender's were nice and had so many opinions on what to try...very friendly! The beer choices were awesome! I like cider and they had alot to choose from. Not bad for a local's bar. The night we went the bar folks were very slow at their jobs. Seemed like it was their first day at the job. May try again sometime. Food wasnt bad for bar food. Got crowded and loud as the night went on but not crazy. read more

Hawks Nest is a good surprise in Alexandria. It's attached to a freaking gas station. That's not enough to make you think twice then good for you. It's better than you expect. Mostly because of the craft selection on tap. It has a massive amount of beers on tap,including many from local breweries. It's about $3.50 a pint for most. The breweries include Millersburg, Rhinegheist, and Wolfs Ridge. It's crazy to think this bar in this small town has this much. They somehow find the room. I had a Wolfs Ridge High Banks. The food is more of what you expect. I had some pretzel bites. These are about $5 for a basket full. It's a good stop if you're going through Alexandria. It's by far the most interesting thing around here. The gas station is attached so you can fill up here too. read more

First of all we've been coming here for about 2 years and have never had a problem until today. I called in an order on my way home from work and you would have thought I was speaking Chinese. The girl kept getting my order wrong and then rudely said, "Ma'am I can't even hear you". So then I switched to my phone from my car's speaker and went over my order again. I started to give her my name and -click! She apparently didn't want to deal with me anymore. I arrived and went into the bar side. The bar tender said that you get pick up orders on the gas station side, then added, quite rudely, "There's like, a great big sign?" I just walked out and didn't bother with her anymore. So then here was the order I gave: Pizza 1: Mushrooms and yellow peppers Pizza 2: Pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms Pizza 3: Same toppings as #2 but with garlic sauce Wings: Mix BBQ and buffalo sauces Here's what we got: Pizza 1: PEPPERONI AND GREEN PEPPERS! Pizza 2: Correct Pizza 3: No sauce at all Wings: BBQ sauce only, dried out and overcooked and I had to remind them about my celery and blue cheese and when I did the slightly older girl just shoved them at me and didn't say anything. Two vapid girls who barely looked old enough to work informed me that they don't have yellow peppers but they do have banana peppers. I mean, DUH. When I informed her that yellow peppers ARE banana peppers, she simply said, "Oh. Soreeeeee!". A slightly older girl, who In assuming was a manager, offered to remake my pizza. I told her never mind because I am diabetic and had to eat. I despise pepperoni but ate it anyhow. Very disappointing. Doubt we'll be back unless there is a huge change in service. read more

This bar is located in the old mechanics bays of a gas station in Alexandria. 30 beers on Tap!!!! We didn't eat. It the food they brought out looked really yummy. TVs for watching sports, pool table, open air seating on one side. Waitress was great! Parking in the back! Would go back to try their pizza which looked and smelled delicious. read more

Great beer selection, good vibes in here. If you live out this way, you'll probably see someone you know if you stay for more than one beer. Don't sleep on the grub here either. I've had the burger, served on a super soft Kaiser bun, good flavor. But the real deal is their Italian sub! We were so surprised the first time we had it. Not sure if the bread is made in house, but it tastes like it. If you're familiar with what the Donato's Big Don sub USED TO BE, this is similar! Really freakin good! Waitresses need prompted to refill your long time empty beer. They walked past us many times ignoring our empties and chatting with their friends. Interesting. Pub is located at/in a gas station. It is what used to be the garage. Several beers (13) on tap. Got the beer battered mushrooms & 12" shrimp 'po boy w/chips. My man got the fish sandwich w/chips. Happy hour is from 2-6 w/ .75 off drafts & appetizers. Several TV's, large bar area w/several small bar tables. There is also an area w/tables & booths. There is also 2 pool tables & a jukebox. The mushrooms are very good, breading good & not too heavy. The fish sandwich us excellent. read more

My hubby grabbed a couple of subs one night on his way home. He specifically asked for no mayo but it was SLATHERED on. His sub was the Buffalo chicken sub, amd im just not really sure why mayo by itself would be in that sandwich for the "sauce" part. My sub was a roast beef and I also had at least 3/4 cup of mayo so I scraped a good bit off. We sat down to eat and realized these subs are made with cheap "chix breast" (idk what his was) and mine was some kind of rubbery "meat di jour" but didn't look or taste like roast beef. These sandwiches were over $10/pc and since he was on his way home, we weren't going vack to that area anytime soon. So we didn't call the restaurant but just decided to let everyone else know. I had not been in here for sometime and had heard that it was going downhill, so I figured I'd give it a check out. If you've never been, this place is a must. It's built inside the old 2 mechanic bays of a gas station and attached to a carry out with an added pizza/subs kitchen. They still have the garage doors which they open on warm days to bring in the fresh air and give you that outside feel. I stopped in Friday after work and was greeted cheerfully by the bartender. The crowd was a collection of office workers, construction crews and locals all engaging each other in pleasant conversations. The place was just as clean as I remember, surprising for an old grease filled gas station. I found they still had one of the best beer sections around, 23 taps of some of the finest craft beers around. I told the bartender what my tastebuds were in search for and he suggested Brewdog's Elvis Juice, can't go wrong with that. I then proceeded to tryout some of Ohio's other great craft beers and was never let down. The beer was served in a chilled mug each time, which I love. I learned the hard way the men's restroom had been moved to the back of the establishment, much better than right inside the front door I might add. I did not try the pizza this time but it looked just as tasteful as it was in the past. I obviously was given bad information by someone, this place had NOT gone down hill. The bar is exactly what it looks like and if you're looking for a utilitarian drinking experience, there you go. The gas pumps are too slow and they need to fix their vent because you can't leave that place without smelling like onion rings. We're regulars 2-3 nights of the week. Tonight, Wednesday 12/6, we couldn't even get waited on. We sat at the bar for 10 minutes. The bartender waited on everyone coming in the door up to the cash register. People around us were even trying to get the bartender's attention. I love the Hawks nest pub so much we named our pig barn the hogs nest! I absolutely love there spicy garlic wings and there tater tot's are amazing!!!!
