The Rotary Forest We had a good and safe experience at the Mc park. It was pretty vacant as we went in the middle of the day, but enjoyed having the place to ourselves! Sophie, our 3 year old doggie, loved zooming through the woodsy areas and just had a great time. We met up with 3 or 4 others, with their dogs well behaved and social as well. It can get a bit muddy as expected, so just be ready to clean off paws later. We had Sophie wear a little windbreaker light jacket, as once you get in to the woods more deeply it does get chilly. There was a muddy creek, but small, and hear a fun little 'bridge' to go over. Not much for squirrels or chipmunks, but we walked around the perimeter and it was well fenced in. There was also a smaller fenced in area, as you entered the main entrance I think, there are several entry ways, for small doggies. Google the directions and then verify. The first google maps took us way out of the way from a Gig Harbor start point, so we think that the address may not be completely accurate on google maps. Once there we parked in a nearby business lot, and walked over to a secured entry. It had 2 gates to go through, both secured and nice, esp for excited pets. We brought along our usual, poo bags, treats to practice recall skills, water bottle, and travel dish. You can spend up to 1-2 hours walking about and meandering through the little internal off trails. The trails are easy around the perimeter, and then more hilly and rustic in the interior towards the little creek. read more

Open during Covid! Honestly besides not living in gig harbor it's my only complaint I have to pay $6 to cross the bridge. But it was worth it! I honestly loved this dog park it was a little tricky to find for me signs aren't that noticeable. Besides that there's no parking you kinda have to park on the side of the road. You hike up this hill to get to the dog area. It's all nature and they also have down below an area for the dogs to just run and play together! Stella absolutely had a blast also if you scared of snakes beware their there. Also they have water so if you like to bring a gallon and leave it do so! This park is pretty new, and it still shows. It is fully fenced (it's easy to walk the perimeter and check for yourself), and there are plenty of trash cans and bag stations, but that's about it. What I assume will be a large, open play area is still incomplete, and there aren't a lot of options for trails. However, in all fairness to PenMet parks, every weekend when I go, I can see that they are making progress. The large clearing is getting more cleared, they have added at least one trail. I wouldn't make the park a destination, but for everyone who lives in the Gig Harbor area, this park is a blessing. It's nice to not have to cross the bridge or go to Port Orchard for a dog park. read more

This is a great place to let your dog roam. We took my dog once and he spent awhile crashing through the undergrowth then when he got through the doggy Daniel Boone stage we retreated to the safety of some picnic tables located in a meadow area. While he rested and drank the water provided around the table we watched the dogs playing with balls and a frisbee. I had to show this great park to a visiting friend. Her baby had just as much fun and she got to talk to several people who she thought were very nice. The park impressed her more than showing her the area in the car did! read more

You'll park at the firehouse and walk to the park (it's about a 4-5 minute walk). We love coming here with our dog and letting him run around while we also get a good walk in. This is a great place to off-leash train puppies after they've had all their shots too. It's fenced in but a huge space with several trails and a large dirt space for throwing balls. read more

So I am probably jaded from living next to Point Defiance Dog Park because that was the best dog park around, heck we still go there when we have more time in the day. Anyhow we have a large dog, he needs a lot of exercise usually twice a day or he will be running circles at home. So the best exercise is throwing the ball. It is difficult here since the park is lined in a chain-link fence, why would you do that? I am climbing the fence at least four to five times or digging under it to get the dog's ball back. Ok later in the park they have a large, open area which suits fine for the ball throwing and if you head into the park it is easier, but it is also very thick forest growth something else that would be nice if they thinned it out a bit. There are a few nice things about the park, in the summer there is a water source near the fire station for the dogs and folks also bring jugs of water into the park for the dogs. There are also a lot of poop bags hanging everywhere on the fence and at the entrances, unfortunately I think a plethora of folks cannot see the color blue because dog poop everywhere, odd? Overall not a bad place if you have a smaller or older dog that just needs a walk, however if you are like me and looking for a substitution for Point Defiance this is not it. read more

If you're in the Gig Harbor area, this is a wonderful dog park to go to! Completely fenced off and the trails are surrounded by a beautiful forest. The owners and the dogs I encountered were very nice. There are also water stations along the way as well. It's not a very long trail (with average walking speed, the entire loop takes less than 30 min). There's a pathway from the parking lot that leads to the dog park - until you get to the off-leash area, you should keep your dogs on leash as there have been bear sightings recently. If you don't live in the area, it's not a place to make as a destination. But if you happen to be near there, I'd stop by! read more

Great fenced in trail area with forest and lots of smaller off-shoot trails... an open area for doggies to run around and play together with watering stations. Lots of doggy waste stations interspersed along the trail, too. A very fun time! read more

For people that love a more rugged dog park, this is a great choice. For anyone that wants to simply take your dog to a park to run around, it's more complicated than that. I was shocked how deep into the woods the park was. I keep walking and walking thinking that it must be close by. lol. The 'bear sighting' signs were alarming! As a female going to the park alone, I did not feel safe on the dark path leading to the park. I have seen transients coming out of the brush in the mornings as I drive by, and there have been break-ins of cars. So, take that into consideration if you're planning to go alone. the people were not particularly friendly there, unlike Tubby's Trail park near the Bridge. read more

This park is really amazing! However, there are two reasons that I have to knock it down to four stars. The first being that it's hard to locate. The only way I could find it was through my friend calling me and telling me where to park. The only sign is on the road next to a trail. The second reason I give it four stars is that some people that go there are not so friendly. One woman's dog kept mounting my friend's dogs face and the owner did nothing but swear at my friend when she pulled the dog off. I have not been to many dog parks but the the ones that I have, fail in comparison to this dog park. You'll read complaints about dog poo all along the trail. I agree it gross, but the little pups are usually running out of sight line of the owners. It can be hopping with a good group of doggie friends and also a little muddy after a rain. I would bring the rain boots or shoes you don't mind washing afterwards. Great time doing a couple of laps with some girlfriends over coffee! Good way to get our steps in! read more

I go to this park regularly. Suck a beautiful park and completely closed off. Easy to grab doggy bags, and teach can placed throughout so there is no excuse for messes left behind. Lots of people come here just to even get some exercise in. read more

A great dog park! All fenced in with trails to walk; open area to throw tennis balls; water bowls for the four leggers and benches for the two legger users! The trails are relatively easy to walk.. I say "relatively" because I think there are some reservations.... if it has rained (Pacific Northwest!) the "down parts" can be slippery. So, just be aware. Also, another thought, I wish they had more sitting spots along the trails..not necessarily benches but "downed" logs could be strategically placed for tired (Mature!) owners to rest for a bit. The trails are certainly wide enough that a sitting log here and there would not cause congestion. read more

With an open area to play fetch and great trails to explore the smells and sights of the woods, this is a gem for dogs. The entire area is circled by fence so you don't have to worry about letting your furry friend explore to their hearts content. read more

I don't want to scare anyone, just advise! Please check your dogs for ticks and give them a flea and tick shampoo bath after visiting this park! My Standard Red Poodle contracted a tick while we were visiting this park! She was bit by a Western Black Legged Tick more commonly known as a Deer Tick! If your dog has a tick repellent it still can contract the disease! The tick bites into your dog, injects the disease, then sucks the dog's blood and dies. Our Vet said they are seeing increased tick bites in Western Washington every year. These ticks breed and travel on deer, raccoons, coyotes and rodents. When the tick jumps off it's host they prefer to live in wooded, brushy, tall grass and abundant leaf litter (not short grass). Symptoms from the Deer Tick will appear 1 to 7 days. Your dog will not get Lyme disease from the Deer tick! But your dog will get Anaplasmosis, Cyclic Thrombocytopenia! This is a drop in blood platelets. My dog almost didn't survive this attack her blood platelet count dropped from 253,000 to 60,000 and she had a fever of 105* My dog also contracted lameness, joint pain, fever, lethargy, inappetance (not eating she lost 4 pounds of weight in 3 days), vomiting, diarrhea, coughing and labored breathing (she was breathing through her mouth to get oxygen). She was under the Vets care for 3 weeks with medication before she made a full recovery. The total vet bill came to $1,300.00 I hope this information will help someone.
