I chose Ed's due to the positive yelp reviews. Unfortunately, we waited 45 minutes after ordering for our food to arrive. We literally sat and watched other tables sit, order, eat, and leave before receiving our food. There seemed to be only one server, one cook, and one dishwasher. The long wait wasn't even acknowledged by the waitress. Our kids were obviously restless and hungry. Pretty lousy service and the food was just ok.

The floors, the food, the tables, the chairs. I am very impressed. My husband and I ordered a half chicken salad to share and we also split the chicken Alfredo. The Chicken salad was large. I found it hard to believe it was only a half portion. The salad came with a very large portion of shredded torn, hot chicken. The lettuce was Romaine and it had diced tomatoes with shredded cheese slices of cucumbers, large slices of red onion, and croutons. It was supposed to come with a sliced egg, but there was none on the salad. The chicken Alfredo was a very large portion. There was more chicken on the salad then in the chicken Alfredo. The Alfredo sauce tasted smoky. I swear there was a half a pound of pasta in that dish. Like all the other portions of food it is very large. They serve fresh bread with butter to the table. The bread is delicious. The waiter said they make it here. We were offered dessert but we chose you to decline. They have a display case of three different kinds of pies, bars, chocolate cake, cheesecake, and more. My only complaint is that the booths are so far from the table. I had to eat at the end of my bench. But I love that the backs of the booths are so very tall. You can't see your neighbor behind you. I was finished eating and pushed my plate away. My husband was still eating his food. The waiter came up to see if we needed anything else. As we were talking to him, an older woman came by interrupted our conversation with the waiter and started to take all of our plates. My husband was not finished eating, but since she piled the plates on top of each other, we were now done. Perhaps in the future, she should ask if we are finished before removing them from the table. The staff is friendly. The food is ginormous and delicious. This is definitely a place if I were passing through I would stop and eat again. I give this restaurant 4.7 stars.

This is the toughest review I've ever written…read more We arrived in Burns, where there aren't a lot of dining choices, save the Apple Peddler and the McDonald's in neighboring Hines. And because it was a Sunday evening, neither the Pine Room or El Toreo were open. We settled on Linda's Thai Room, located inside the Elkhorn Club bar. The reviews were generally good, although I was a bit skeptical about an Asian restaurant in a small Western town. Much larger cities have trouble offering anything beyond American-Chinese (meaning far from authentic) fare, so I wasn't expecting too much from Linda's. The first thing that greeted us was a sign on the door "WE ONLY ACCEPT CASH OR LOCAL CHECKS," even though there were decals for Visa and Mastercard on the adjoining window. A hand-written sign told a much more somber tale: "My mom and restaurant owner just passed." Going online, I was unable to find out anything about Linda. No feature story from the local newspaper. No restaurant website. Not even a photo of her on the restaurant's Facebook page. Most of the tables inside the small restaurant were filled with plates, serving bowls, glasses and the like. It's like the restaurant was having a rummage sale of things that had been in storage. And it turned out to be true. We sat at the only open table and after being handed menus were told they did not have any noodles or pineapple. That eliminated a number of menu choices. My wife asked the elderly gentleman who was waiting on us (who we later learned was Linda's husband) what was in the Thai fried rice. He looked back at us unable to answer. We suspected he might not have been involved in the operation of the restaurant and was filling in following his wife's death. Kristy ended up ordering pork fried rice. It was the saddest plate of rice I had ever seen. Except for the pork and some sliced tomatoes, there appeared to be no other additions. No mushrooms, no green onions or egg and barely any soy sauce added in. It wasn't very good. I ordered a Thai basil pork dish. It was surprisingly good with pork, Thai basil, garlic and a flavorful sauce. Service was slow. Linda's daughter was the only person in the kitchen, so she had to do it all. From a Facebook post, I learned she had come to Burns from Portland to help her mother when her mom was suffering from medical issues. From the post, the daughter said she didn't want to be there but came to help her mom, while holding down her own full-time job. In another post the daughter said she was overwhelmed by people leaving voice mail messages for orders they expected at a certain time, but for times before she could arrive after her other job and they expected those orders to take priority over people who were dining in. The daughter said she was trying to hold things together until the business could be sold. It's a tough situation for her and her father. I wouldn't wish that kind of grief and stress on anyone. I just hope than everyone who comes in has patience and empathy for a grieving family just trying to make a go of it.
